Don't be offended but posts like yours are now met with extreme skepticism here. We regulars are tired of posts that seem on the surface to be designed to start arguments or flame wars. As another has suggested this not the place to obtain opinions. These forums are for user-to-user technical support, not opinion polls. Read the professional views on other sites and decide for yourself. Only you can make the decision.

  • So is the iPhone worth buying?

I do not have an iPhone but I have been interested in buying one for a long time. I am waiting for my conrtact with at&t to end for financial reasons. I have been reading these forums daily for a long time and most of the threads have been negative things about the iPhone. I know this is a support forum but they all start with "this doesnt work" or "what the heck is going on..." or "how do I". It seems to me as though there are tons of problems and complaints with everything.
As I said before I know this is a support forum but what is so great about the iphone for me to buy it? If I am going to be running into all of these problems that the iPhone is said to do why would I buy it?
    Thanks

I have a different view. I would wait to buy the iPhone until Apple adds the missing features and fixes some of the little annoyances.
Right now you could probably get more functionality from another phone. Here are the problems that I see that need to be fixed before I would label the iPhone as better than any other mobile phone on the market.
    1) The bluetooth capabilities are pathetic and minimal (headset and handsfree profiles) are just about all you get right now.
    2) You CANNOT set your ring tones to any tune you've already bought or have, you must buy ringtones for 99 cents. Cha-Ching for Apple, but not for you.
    3) It appears that there really aren't any "iPhone" widgets or programs (like games etc) that you can load. If you want to run an "iPhone" widget or program you must do it through safari using the wi-fi or AT&T's EDGE web connection. I guess they only allow safari run "java" type apps. This will probably be fixed with a future Development kit, but only Apple really knows.
    4) Don't buy the Apple bluetooth headset, it doesn't work very well (I don't know why) and I haven't tried others to see if it's the headset or the iPhone.
    5) They still have some navagation problems that need to be fixed. What I mean by that is some functions have dead-ends that are hard to get out of.
    6) The iPhone is missing any kind of voice dial feature. Cingular/Cellular One used to have their own voice dial feature that AT&T probably has for an additional monthly fee, but I still think that Apple needs to make some attempt to get a voice dial feature working for people that don't want or can't afford the extra monthly fee.
I think once these problems get fixed, then you'll be happier with your purchase.

  • The iphone i buy was jailbrake now it cannot be back up

the iphone i buy was jail brake i tried to restore it to it's factory condition.

It's not always possible to successfully revert to a pristine state after jailbreaking. Search google or these forums for DFU mode. You will need to restore it using DFU mode and try to get it back to a working state that way.  Beyond that, there isn't really any advice we can give here.
Discussing jailbroken devices is forbidden here by the Terms of Use.

  • Is the iphone worth it?

I am two steps away from buying a new iphone and I love apple products!! But, I have been reading this forum for two weeks now and only seem to see people having problems with their iphones. I really need to know that having an iphone isn't as much trouble as it seems by reading these forums. Anybody out there have anything positive to say about their phones because im starting to think that they are more trouble than they are worth! Thx

Go to your AT&T Store and sign up for a Go phone (one with 3G if possible). Use it for a month in the area you live, work, travel to, congregate, etc. If you are getting good reception in all those areas you have eliminated one possible problem.
Now go buy you iPhone and have them set it up. Before you get one decide what email you are primarily going to use and have them help you set up your email. If you are going to start a new email account look into MobileMe or use Yahoo, both will do Push mail.
Be sure to clean up all your music, movies, contacts on the computer that you are going to sync with the iPhone and make sure your iTunes Account is authorized and logged in prior to syncing the iPhone. Also, don't leave the store without a good case.
I know several people in my area with iPhones, none have had major problems, and I just finished buying an iPhone Gift Card for another friend. I'm in an area with good 3G reception and have not had any problems.

  • Is the iPhone worth the wait since there's gonna be (rumors) about iPhone 2

Should i wait, or can i finally buy it and end my never ending longing for it

    thegodfather151,
When Steve Jobs was asked about if Apple was working on the next model during the announcement of the O2 as the UK carrier he answered somehting along the lines of, "Yes, and the next one after that." When asked about when there would be more information he said something along the lines of maybe next year, meaning 2008.
Do you hold off buying a car because the 2009 models might have something you want? Even if the changes to the next model are not known yet? No, you evaluate the current models against your needs and wants, and make a decision.
It is the same thing with electronics. There will always be new models at some point in the future. Does the product today meet your needs and wants? If so, purchase it today.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Is there any user control on the iphone anymore?

Ok so I hate the new OS 7 but before you write me off as just complaining please read further:
I have a very hard time reading the phone because of the white backgrounds on everything , I understand some like this. Is there any way to change this?
I also can't read my text very well because of the white on green text bubbles ... Any way to change this?
Can someone please tell me what apple really did to enhance the user experience? And what is an important feature they have added to the new OS that really stands out over the 6 aside from the horrible layout change? I read what they said the new features were and I didn't see anything that wasn't just a cheap trick. Maybe someone can show me something that will revive some bit of like into the phone again?
But back to the settings change. I went to accessibility and upped the contrast and bolt text but that only helps slightly . I inverted the colors and thought awesome but then realized it inverts everything so that won't work. I could deal with black back grounds on everything .
Any help please ? I'm not made of money so I'm stuck with the 5 for a few weeks at least. Every time I use the phone it angers me so it's not a very pleasant experience !!!
Some people really have issues with the eyes and I just want to have a little control over the look of the phone. Really not digging the way it's swiped to delete now and the way they have the search and control panel I can't get a good swipe on those to save my life. Hate is a good word right now.

Those minimal changes do nothing that I asked. I'm not sure why you linked that. I have read the very simplistic, almost null, options of the ios7 . I appreciate the attempt to help. It seems that the answer is NO, there is no user control over the new layout.
My ultimate answer to gaining user control over their phone is to sell the iPhone and buy a galaxy .

  • There is a program unfortunately just called "Cookie" (so I can't be successful doing a search here) that is supposed to help protect our private information that resides on our computers.  Has anyone used this and is it worth buying?

Unfortunately this discussion forum has changed and become confusing indeed.  It wanted me to put my entire question in a Subject box which wasn't labeled as such, and I find this strange.  Especially since now it tells me to repeat my question in this box, so here goes.
Has anyone here used a program called 'Cookie' that is supposed to protect our private information from sites which could retrieve it when we surf the Net.  If so, do you consider the program worth buying?

If you are referring to Cookie from SweetP Productions, I have tried it and not found it to work reliably, so I cannot recommend it. I've had the best results with the same company's free Safari Cookies, though it's not perfect (none of the cookie managers are, unfortunately):

  • Is it worth buying the iPhone 5 in Malaysia?

Hi guys! I'm going to Malaysia in a few days where the iPhone 5 retails for 700 for the 16 and 780 for the 32GB model. So that's about $100 cheaper than it is in Australia. So I was just wondering if it's safe and good to buy it in Malaysia. I will be using it in Australia so will my cellular data still work although I'm purchasing it from Malaysia? I'm also going to buy it from an Apple Premium seller, so I don't think that I'd be frauded and sold a fake iPhone.
    Thanks in advance.

Here's the deal, if you purchase your phone in Malaysia, your warranty/support will only be valid there. Any issues, & you'll have to physically return the phone to Malaysia for all warranty/support issues...you can't mail it back.
Is that worth saving a hundred bucks? Might want to think about that.

  • IPhone 6 - worth buying in North America to use in the UK??

    Hi there,
I live in the UK, but thinking about buying an unlocked iPhone 6 in an Apple Store when I'm in Canada next week. I've seen a lot of discussions around compatibility and antenna issues for 4G when using a phone bought in North America in Europe, but many people say it shouldn't be an issue at all. I'm using Giffgaff, which is part of O2's network.
Can anyone give a clear answer to whether there will be any issues with using the iPhone 6 in the UK??
Thanks so much for your help.
    NJ

if you buy an unlocked iPhone in Canada it should work with a supported carrier in the UK - whether LTE works will depend on the LTE frequencies used by carriers in the UK and whether those frequencies are in the Canadian iPhone
you must buy it unlocked - i dont know if they sell carrier subsidized phones in Canada but if you were to buy one of those it would be locked to the Canadian carrier and phone calls made in the UK would be charged at roaming rates
One important thing to be aware of is the iPhone warranty is no international - its only valid in the country where the iPhone was purchased ( the EU is considered 1 country for warranty purposes) - so if you needed a repair you would have to take or send the Iphone back to Canada - also Apple will only return the repaired iPhone to a Canadian address

  • Is the iPod Touch 5 worth buying now?

I wanted to buy the iPod touch 5th gen to experience all the cool features from the ios 7 .. I'm an android user but I have an iPad 3 at home which is my mother's and my sister has an iPhone 4s and a 5s. I just thought that i should get myself an ios device too. My price range is somewhere around the iPod touch 5 price so is it worth it to buy it now? Should I hold up for a while and wait for the next ipod? or is it ok if buy it now . of course the ipod isn't using the latest processor from apple but it's the same processor as the iphone 4s. it also packs up a 512 mb ram just like the iphone 4s. let's say if i couldnt wait any longer for the next ipod to come, should i buy it now? and if i bought the 5th there is no chance i'll have enough money to buy the 6th when it came out. the big question is, should i buy it now or wait for the next? I appreciate your answers.

Should I hold up for a while and wait for the next ipod?
The only way to avoid having to answer that for yourself is to wait until Apple is about to go out of business or stop making iPods altogether. That way, you can be sure there will never be a next iPod.

  • Is The Iphone 5 really worth the upgrade?

Im wondering if I should buy the IPhone 5 now or wait for the IPhone 6 (Set to come out in Sept.- Nov.)
I mean... there is alo of people who say the 5 is noth worth it...

No one here knows when the next iPhone will be released or what features it will have.
Only you can determine if you need a new phone now or if your current phone will continue to do the job until such time as another iPhone is released. And, only you can decided if the features of the iPhone 5 will meet your needs. There will always be a better, faster, more capable device released not too long after you buy what ever high tech device you buy be it computers, tablets, phones, cameras.
If you need a new phone now and the iPhone 5 meets your needs, there is no reason to think it will not continue to meet those needs even after the release of the next phone.

  • Is The iPhone 5 Really Worth It?

Hopefully I do not get bombarded by hardcore Apple fans but is the iPhone 5 really worth it. I used to have the iPhone 4S, but upgraded it to a Samsung Galaxy S3 and here is what I think of the iPhone 5. With phones like the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, and the Nokia Lumia 920, I find it hard for the iPhone to win but some people are just brainwashed in Apple's company. The phone is like a iPod Touch 5G but the difference is that you can talk and text but with apps like Free SMS, in theory the only difference is the talk. iMean it is the same thing every year of realease, new hardware and design and new look, but the same interface. Personally I think that the 2 Samsungs and the Nokia are better phones but because of the people who don't realise Apple's products are the same every year one will sell more but it is not about how much it sells, it is about the overall phone. They even rip us off by changing the slot smaller so we have to pay EXTRA to get a converter or get a new dock. Anyway, any thoughts on this?

That's why there is choice in the marketplace - you buy whatever suits your needs/preferences best.
If you want to waste time learning where everything is in constantly changing interfaces every year, then that's your choice.
Many people like familiarity, and don't have time or inclination to re-learn how to use a phone every few months.
it is the same thing every year of realease, new hardware and design and new look
Huh? Either it is the same, or it is new - it can't be both.

  • Is the iPhone the same product if I buy it in the USA as the one in the UK?

I have noted that the iPhone 5 will cost over £500 in the UK but starts at $200 in the US, can I buy one in america the next time I'm there and (apart from the difference in the electricity, which presumably won't matter as charging is via USB efectively) use it without any problems over here in the UK?

It starts at $200 in the US only because you have to sign up for a two-year contract with a cell carrier, via which they subsidize the initial purchase price. Apple has not announced availability of unlocked iPhone 5s in the US yet, but once you add the sales taxes and VAT you'll have to pay to the price of an unlocked iPhone, you probably won't save much if anything over the price in the US, which makes the lack of warranty support in the UK for a US-sold iPhone probably not worth it.
    Regards.

  • STick with current iphone or buy the new one? much appreciated help!

Should I get the new one and pay an extra ten a month and then add my 5 dollar text plan or should i stick with current phone?
here are major concerns: is the 3g actually that much faster than the 2g?
is there actually a yellow screen on every model? or is that just particular defected models? cuz i was playing around with one at apple store and it didnt seem yellow to me!
    speaker quality good?
any other comments? any other problems with the new iphone that anyone has noticed that i havent mnetioned.
i do really appreciate any comments

    wi fi off
    3g off
apple home page draw 36 seconds
    wifi off
    3g on
    apple home page draw 21
wifi on (n network airport extreme)
apple home page draw is 10 seconds.
of course this can vary on another day but it let's you know it is much faster for 3g. watch out for battery drain on 3g ... but you can disable 3g if you get low.
worth buying if you do a lot of cell phone internet activity mail and browser. also location stuff is a better than first version. No I saw no phones with yellow tint.
