The iPhone and the significance of 101.4

ok curiousity has gotten the better of me. I have had an iPhone since the release day. Every night I put it on my nightstand to charge because I use it as an alarm for one thing, and I dont want to miss calls as Im a very heavy sleeper and we all know its ringer isnt the loudest thing in the world.
Anyway.
I have a digital clock on the same nightstand. It has a radio on it. Every single time I put the iPhone next to this digital clock the numbers on the clock freak out, and then end like a slot machine on 101.4 - keep in mind that the clock is in clock mode and not radio mode, yet it goes to 101.4 all the time.
Curious, I went to another digital clock in my house. 101.4.
Any thoughts on this?
ps - the radio is NOT set to 101.4, so its not just switching views from clock to radio mode

Ya there have been MANY discussions on cell phones and wi-fi in flight. As a former aircraft radio tech I can assure you that there is little chance of a cell-phone, even in the cockpit effecting the radio gear.
During repair of aircraft gear one of our tests was to subject it to various forms of high power RF to make sure there would be no issues. For example comm gear. We would tune it to various frequencies, attach the output to a signal analyzer then hit it with a radar blast and see what happened. We were allowed a certain amount of interference but at no time could the signal be lost.
The reason for this was the much comm/nav gear resides in the nose on corporate A/C and most of these aircraft have weather radar. If your nav/comm died whenever your Wx radar tried to paint you'd be in big trouble.
Our shop carried it further. We used cell-phones when they first came out, radar guns, hand held amateur radios. All in the 1-10 watt range to insure our repaired radios didn't freak.
One of the real reasons for not allowing cell while in flight is the fact that you are now basically a 40,000 foot antenna. Your cell phone would light up towers across 3 states or more! Imagine if everyone did that!?
Then there is the liability. If you were using your cell and the A/C crashed and it appeared to be a navigational error... Imagine the heyday the lawyers would have!

Also, how can I reconnect my iphone to my Apple ID?

Do you mean that you removed the phone from the 'manage devices' section of your iTunes account ? If you do then that won't stop you being able to purchase items on your phone - you only need to be logged into an account to be able to purchase with it.
If you do mean the 'manage devices' section then you can associate, or re-associate, a device (or computer) by using iTunes Match, or automatic downloads, or redownloading past purchases on it : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627

I can't imagine that any police agency in the world would request this information.

  • What are the functional differences between the iPhone and the iPod Touch, barring of course the differences in service requirements.

What are the functional differences between the iPhone and the iPod Touch, barring of course the differences in service requirements.

For one, their form factors are slightly different as the iPhone has a bit more squarish body whereas the iPod Touch has a tapered back to it.
The iPhone also has much better front and rear cameras. Exact details as to the difference in megapixels depends on whether or not you talking about the iPhone 4 or 4S.  If you would like to get more details, you can always view
each models specs on Apple's online store.
See here for a better explanation.

  • Can I use the same USB cable for both the iPhone and the iPad?

Brnad new user of the iPad - can I use the same USB cable for both the iPhone and the iPad?  The iPad does not charge when plugged into the computer or the wall (110V) adapter.  I've been able to sync in iTunes using the same cable on both.

Actually, the iPad charger works just fine with iPhones and iPods.  The iPod/iPhone charger will charge an iPad very slowly but no harm will be done.

  • My icloud is not collecting emails on my iMac, though they are coming through on the iphone and the macbook air

icloud emails are not coming through on my imac, though the gmail is ok.  The icloud emails are coming through fine on the iphone and the macbook.  Any ideas?

On the iMac, open System Preferences > iCloud
Deslect the box next to Mail then reselect it.
Give iCloud a minute or two to re sync the data.

  • Bluetooth - the iPhone and the Blue Ant

Hoorah, the Blueant V-1 does work with the iPhone, set up is a little different. Go through normal pairing procedures with iPhone instructions and Blueant instructions. When iPhone finds the Blueant device and says not paired - do not try to force pairing or start over - you will notice that even though the iPhone found it the iPhone is still cycling information. In about 5 seconds (I know for use that is a century) the password screen will show, hit 0000 and off it goes to connect. If you find issues with hearing or people hearing you go to settings and make sure sound bar slide is all the way up. The iPhone controls the Blueant volume unlike the Blackberrys were the Blueant controls the volume on the phone. If you want a tutorial in picture form I should have one worked up by the weekend. I will be able to send it to anyone who wants it or I can show it on a Mobile Me share.

You need to reset the BlueAnt device to factory default, and remove the device from your bluetooth devices list.
Then go thru the steps, the password is usually 0000.
Download your manual if you do not remember how to reset your BlueAnt device.

  • I have an iPhone 4 and iPad 2 and my desktop computer is a W7 machine and I run Outlook 2007. When I synch the iPhone and the computer using a USB and iTunes new calandar and contact entries on the iPhone are not written to Outlook.

The problem seems to have started since I enabled iCloud and the two Apple devices keep beautifully in synch. I've probably just got some setting wrong but I'm a bit lost and would appreciate some help.
If I put a "new" calandar event in Outlook and then synch this does show up on the Apple devices so the problem is just one way ... if I add something on one of the Apple devices I don't get it to show-up in Outlook.
Many, many thanks for any help from London.

Thank you for being patient with a "beginner" :-) I have now realized that I had no understanding of how iCloud would affect things.
Calendar: On the iPhone I have set the default calendar to "From my PC" and now things are working ok. I have done the same on the iPad and this is also working ok. I accept that to keep things in sync I have to connect (by USB) to the PC but this is ok.
Contacts: I was about to make the equivalent changes regarding Contacts and have done so on the iPhone only to find that there is no "From my PC" on the iPad.
Any suggestions/help would be much appreciated.
Would I be better off just getting rid of iCloud and going back to USB sync every now and then. This used to be fine for me. Perhaps I have been making things difficult by mixing iCloud with a non-iCloud device (the W7 PC).
Anyway, once again, many thanks for your patience.
    Steve

  • My notes aren't synced instantly between the iPhone and the icloud

Once I enter a new note or update one on my iPhone it's not updated on the iCloud web interface, also when I do the same in the web interface I cant see it synced to my device and I don't know how much time needed to do that.
What I have noticed is that my yesterday edits have been finally synced to my device today but I don't know in which basis this is working.

Hey, OP here, asking this question appears to have fixed the problem. Magically. Weird timing, it's been doing it since yesterday and literally just stopped happening.
    So ignore this, I guess.

  • Major differences between the iPhone and the iPod touch after SDK?

I was so excited to read that there will be apps available for the iPod touch soon - the only reason I haven't upgraded from my 30GB iPod is that I use the games all the time when I'm on the treadmill. Not having games available regardless of WiFi connection just wasn't going to work for me.
That being said, once the SDK comes out, will there be any major differences (besides the phone, obviously, and WiFi connection to internet vs. connection anywhere) between the two devices? I have one year left on my current phone contract, so I'm thinking I don't want to wait that long since apps will be available on the Touch soon.
    Any insight is appreciated!

    We have NO idea.
But, let's play for a minute...
    Touch will still not have:
    Phone
    BlueTooth
    GPS capabilities
None of which I care about, except maybe the BT, which is not there, so it doesn't matter.
Maybe a future version will have BT, but now, no.
So...if they do really open the Touch, it will be the same sans the above - which is great by me.

  • What are the differences between the iPhone and the iTouch?

Other than being able to make phone calls on the iPhone.
Also, can I get emails sent straight to an iTouch? For example, Comcast or Verizon emails?

    In regards to email:
Will it be delivered to my iTouch in real-time fashion? In other words, will it appear on my iTouch as soon as the email is received? Or do I need to perform a send/receive in order for new emails to appear?
    Thanks again.

  • A MacBook Pro is also a mobile device. Why won't iCloud sync ALL my mobile devices, and not just the iPhone and the iPad

While iCloud works seamlessly between my iPad and iPhone, getting a document resynced to my MacBook Pro after working on it on either of these devices is a nightmare. Sending it to iWork takes forever, moreover, it has to go through my email. Please fix this feature soon, if there's anyone from Apple listening.

I had the same issue until I updated my apps through iTunes. I had over 100 updates, but none of them showed on my iPod. After they updated everything started syncing like it is supposed. Go to the apps library and check for updates. After everything syncs leave your iPhone/ipod/ipad connected if the spinning arrows at the top is still spinning. It means that things are still being added. If you go to settings > general > about, you will see it loading songs, videos, photos, etc. If you back out of "about" and then go back to it you will see the numbers for each one change.

  • I have an old Nano and I am attempting to transfer the music to my new iPhone. I have a new Apple ID for the iPhone (and the same one is used on my IPAD). My problem is that the Nano usesthis old Apple ID and my password does not work.

I cannot get access through the online security as when it requests my birth date, it informs that it is wrong (I got it right). ANd, when i attempt to do it via email, I don;t get the email in either of the only 2 accounts that I ahve ever had.
    Any ideas?

Time to contact Apple support directly and have them assist you with resetting the password.
