now I wanna upgrade to ios 6.0 , when i want to upgrade, message appears tells me :
The iphone couldn't be restored because the firmware file is not compatible .
I loaded many of ios 6.0 from alot of websites but the same wrong .
I tried to restore by ios 5.1.1(9B206) it was ok no problem but when i wanna upgrade by ios 6.0 here is the problem .
    plz i need help

The only legit source for ios 6 is from itunes.
    Open itunes, connect iphone.
Does it prompt you to update?
How did you update to 5.1.1 three days ago? There is no legit way to do this at all.  You can ONLY update to the latest available which was ios 6 three days ago.

The error message you are getting sounds like you have jailbroken your iPhone or have updated to iPhone OS 4.0 Beta.
Eitherway, I would follow http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1275 for a possible solution as these steps may not work.

My Iphone 4 crashed and I lost my entire contact list. I restored it to original factory settings but in trying to restore my data from my laptop via Itunes.. this was the feedback: Itunes could not restore the Iphone Dr Johnny Siu Chong because the Iphone refused the request.
I cannot get help from Apple support because i am being asked to supply the serial number which is stored on the phone and I cannot restore my data in the first place. I am reluctant to "Set up as a new Iphone" since I don't know whether if I do I  may not then be able to access my data from Itunes...
Please advise what to do. I did not see any tutorials on Youtube to help me with this.
I look forward to an early response.

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    or here:

  • HT201210 I am stuck with "The iPad could not be restored because the firmware file was corrupt" message.

    Hi
I have an iPad mini and it was on iOS 6.1.3, my friend came and he said that he knows how to install iOS 7 for me. I gave it to him and he tried to install it, but apparently he failed to do so and an "Activation Error" is appearing on the screen now asking me to register in the developers program.
Now, we are trying to restore it back to iOS 6.1.3 using iTunes, the software downloads well and it starts restoring but that I keep getting this error message "The iPad could not be restored because the firmware file was corrupt.".
I am sure that the file is not corrupted because it's downloaded via iTunes regular download and it's not from an outside source.
I am stuck with this now and my iPad is useless this way.
    Please any suggestions ?

Yes, don't download Beta Software that you have no business or legal right to download and quit taking bad advice from friends.
Now to maybe get you out of the restoring jam, the only thing that I can think of that might work is to use recovery mode, unless you already tried it and it didn't work.
You can read about it here, but the instructions are posted below.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

  • IPod could not be restored because the firmware file could not be found

Initial problem was no audio and skipping through songs at a rate of about 1 song per second.
Tried the 5 R's and that didn't help.
Installed iTunes 7 and then it wouldn't recognize the nano. Followed Apple's instructions when iPod not recognized, including uninstalling iTunes, uninstalling latent update installers, deleting the iTunes directory, clearing the recycle bin, deleting temp files, etc. Then reinstalled iTunes 7,
Plugged in my nano and Got the message, newer version of iPod software available, update software (version installed was 1.1.1 and newer version available was 1.2)? Clicked ok and that was the start of my troubles. That process failed and suggested that I restore to factory defaults (not exactly what I wanted to do, having to reload my songs, but went along).
Did a restore to factory settings and now get the message
The iPod could not be restored because the firmware file could not be found.
Anyone got any ideas how to update the firmware? I'm hopeful that a file can be downloaded to do this rather than sending in the nano to have it updated.

After an hour of updating software and a couple of hours of reading the forums looking for the answer, my eyes hurt, it's 2:30am, and I'm frustrated to the point of throwing this in the trash.
My kids have a shuffle and a mini and I've updated software on both with no problems before. If I realized I would have to become a system admin for iPods, I would never have invested.

The messages are saying you have a 2G iPOd.  Those canonly go to 4.2.1.  Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPOd. A 32 can be either.  To further identify yours:

  • Itunes wont let me back up the iphone 5 i just restored because it says its not set up.

I had a problem previously where I reset my password and shortly forgot it. In that time, I tried to restore it and then back it up but I couldn't restore it because Find My IPhone was enabled. Unfortunately the only way to disable Find My IPhone was to access it from within the phone. But I was locked out. So I logged on to Find My IPhone and I clicked on my phone and told it when it came back online to erase all info. Before this step I had read that the phone had to be offline for this. So I turned on airplane mode on the pull-up bar and shutdown my iPhone.
After I told Find My IPhone to erase my phones data when it cam online, I turned back on my phone, but I couldn't access airplane mode to turn off and get my phone back online. So I was completely stuck there until later today I remembered my password. So I opened my phone up and disabled airplane mode. Then my phone erased.
So I plugged it into my computer and started it up. When it asked if I wanted to set up as a new iPhone, or restore from iTunes or ICloud.I chose Restore from iTunes. The sync started on my computer screen. But about halfway through, it stopped and said, "iTunes could not back up the iPhone "Name" because it has not been set up yet. Then the download stops.
Please help, I'm lost without my phone. Thank you!

    Hello Wazang203,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. You may want to consider putting the device in Recovery Mode, and then restoring it from your backup:
