if itunes can no longer pickup your ipod, and you cant even do anything to your ipod, your best option is to either call apple care, or just take it to the nearest apple shop. i had a similar problem, mines currently at apple care repairs and they might just end up giving me a replacement.

Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occured(9).

I got my iPTouch 16 GB on Oct.13 and on hooking to XP SP2 PC got it on the iTunes ver 7.4.3.1, was able to download music after charging. iTunes showed that a new software ver 1.1.1 for iPTouch was available(of150MB).Got it downloaded to iTunes but when it started to download to iPTouch, it failed and asked to do resotre. All this happened in just few hours of getting it.
Since then, even after reinstalling the iTunes, my iPTouch is not going beyond showing the icon of a plug and a CD.Every time iTune is able to detect the iPTouch saying that it has detected an iPod in recovery mode, you must restore it. And on doing so that error of 'The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occured(9).' comes up and it again asks to restore.
Though every time iTunes is able to detect an iPTouch, my XP does not show it in 'my computer' as any hooked device or drive.
May I request Apple and other members on this forum to help me out. It is clearly a software problem.
    Many thanks in advance.

Thanks to all members for sharing in. In my case finally, I got a brand new replacement from Apple through their Authorised Service Provider,A-1 Infotech, Mumbai. Since in India, Apple does not have a widespread presence, the service and support I got was amazing.
In my case though I never came to know whether the problem was of software or hardware, but the simultaneous step I had taken was to call the toll free number of Apple in India and got my problem registered. Since the iPod Touch was under warranty, I got it replaced without much hassels. I advise the same path for other users and if possible get the additional Apple Care Protection Plan for additional one more year.
Though I have yet to find out how to avail that Protection Plan in India.
    Best wishes,
    Jetavya

  • The itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred (1301

I launched iTunes 9.0.1 today and got this error:
"The itunes application could not be opened. an unknown error occurred (13014)"
An archived tip on the iTunes for Windows forum that suggested deleting the iTunes Library Genius.itdb. That didn't work, I also had to delete iTunes Library Extras.itdb. (For the record I renamed them instead of deleting, but the original post suggested deleting).
Anyway, I thought I'd pass that on in case anyone else experiences this problem.

I had the same error and I keep my iTune folder on an external drive due to size. I tried to create a sub-folder to temporarirly hold the itdb file(s) and give it a try. The system wouldn't let me create the folder, at which point I remembered I had left my mac on but unplugged to find the battery drained in the morning. Upon plugging it in, it came back but then told me I hadn't exjected my external disk. So, I figured there might be a correlation. I tried to eject the disk and it wouldn't let me though no programs were running. So, I went ahead an chose to "Force" the eject via the option it presented me. On the un/re-plugging the disk, I tried to created a subfolder and it worked. Before moving any files to it, I tried starting iTunes again and voila, it worked. So, I suspect the comment above about files being locked is what bit me. Hope this helps...

  • "The network connection could not be stablished" - "An unknown error occured (-50)"

    Can't authorize my account.

    Good Afternoon, kulafuss,
I'm not sure if your two questions are related, but let's start with the steps to authorize your your computer for iTunes:
Authorize your computer in iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201251
Authorize your computer before you use it to sync or play content that you download from the iTunes Store.
When you authorize your Mac or PC, you’re giving it permission to access your apps, audiobooks, books, music, movies, and other content. You can authorize up to 5 computers, which means that you can play your content on 5 different computers. You can authorize a computer only through iTunes on that particular computer. You can't authorize a computer from another computer or from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. How do I authorize a computer?
Open iTunes on the computer you want to authorize.
Choose Store > Authorize This Computer from the menu bar.
You might need to show the menu bar to see this option in Windows. In earlier versions of iTunes, you can access this option from the Advanced menu.
Enter your Apple ID and click Authorize.
If iTunes asks you to authorize your computer again, it won't use a new authorization. iTunes uses the same authorization for the same computer. What happens if I run out of authorizations?
If one of your 5 authorizations is on a computer you don't use much anymore, deauthorize it. If you've sold or given away a computer that used one of your 5 authorizations, you'll need to deauthorize all of your computers and then re-authorize each one you still use.
    Windows users:
If you didn’t deauthorize your computer before reinstalling Windows or upgrading your RAM, hard disk, or other system components, your computer might be using multiple authorizations. Try deauthorizing your computer a few times until it’s no longer authorized, then authorize your computer again, and it will use only one authorization. How do I know how many computers I've authorized?
If you've authorized more than 2 computers, you can see how many are authorized.
Open your account in iTunes and sign in with your Apple ID. (Or, open iTunes, click Store > Sign In, and enter your Apple ID and password.) In the Apple ID Summary section, you’ll see the number of computers that you’ve authorized with your Apple ID. You can’t see the names of those computers.
Do I need to authorize my iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch?
No. You don’t need to authorize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but you do need to associate your iOS devices with your Apple ID. Your iOS devices don’t use your available authorizations.Get help

iTunes keeps asking me to authorize when I try to play my content.
I need to deauthorize a computer or deauthorize all computers.

Resolve iOS update and restore errors in iTunes - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-ng/HT201210
You can fix most update and restore errors with a few simple steps. Try these first:
    Update iTunes.
Get the latest version of iTunes on your computer.
    Update your OS.
Install available updates for your Mac. If you have a PC, you can get PC software updates from the Microsoft website.
    Check your computer’s security software.
You might need to update, change, disable, or uninstall software that’s causing an issue.
    Unplug extra USB devices.
Keep only your iOS device, keyboard, and mouse plugged in directly to your computer.
    Restart.
Turn off your computer and your device. Then turn them on again.
    Try again.
Update or restore your iOS device again.

Errors related to third-party security software
    Error 2, 4 (or -4), 6, 1000, 9006
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Verify that access to ports 80 and 443 are allowed on your network.
Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or photos.apple.com is not blocked by a firewall, or other Internet security setting.
Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps underAdvanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations.
Restore your device while connected to a different network.
    Restore using a different computer.

  • The IPOD 'Ipod' could not be restored an unknown error occured (6)

just Got my Ipod touch and when I tried to set it up, I got a message that said, 'Itunes has detected an IPOD in recovery mode, you must restore this IPOD before it can be used with Itunes'
Then I followed up the instruction on my computer but then another subject came up (as what I wrote on the subject)
I repeated 3-4 times but I got the same message !
How to fix it ? thanks

Well, this problem could be an easy fix. Just enter DFU Mode, and then you should be able to restore with no problems. A video on how to do this, is right [Here|http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=PbTI2quSqew]. There was a better one, but it has been removed. Be sure to have your timing pretty precise, or else it won't work.
    Hope this helps,
    Darie.

  • I am getting the following error message - the itunes application could not be opened - an unknown error occurred (-50). Help!? It won't even open up.

I reinstalled iTunes because it stopped opening up and now I'm getting this error message when it refuses to to open. Help?

If you right-click iTunes and Show in Finder, is it located in the Applications folder?
Try trashing the iTunes plist files from ~/Library/Preferences/ and relaunch iTunes (all of the fies that have com.apple.iTunes in the name).
If that doesn't work, try following Apple's document -> Removing iTunes for Mac OS X.
    WTH.
