The iPhone Search feature doesn't show Contacts/Top hits anymore?

All of a sudden... when I use the general Search Feature on the iPhone4, the Top Hits do not show up anymore. This was the main way I found the contacts that I wanted to call. Any ideas on how to turn that back on?

You could try going to Settings > General > Spotlight Search and make sure all options there are checked.

Annotating pdf documents in Preview - the text search feature doesn't work?

Hi everyone,
I'd like to annotate my pdf documents using preview. However, I realized the other day that as soon as I start annotating a document (with notes, shapes, highlighting, etc), the preview text search doesn't work anymore.

This is a known problem. I have seen one suggestion to print the annotated PDF as a new PDF in order to get search capability back. You can try the Apple Discussions "search" feature at the upper right corner to look for more suggestions.

Delete partially copied movie file from iPhone. Shows grayed out in Videos on the iPhone but it doesn't show up in iTunes.

I have synced my iPhone 4S with iTunes and I got an error while copying one movie. Now this movie shows up grayed out in videos on the iPhone but NOT in iTunes. Hence, I cannot delete this partially copied movie from my iPhone. And since it is grayed out, the right-to-left swipe does not work. I have resynced with "no movies" option so that every movie would be deleted and indeed every movie was deleted except for the problematic one. I rebooted the iPhone several times in case it was a glitch. No success. I even tried tools like iExplorer and DiskAid but I cannot find this **** file. Is there any way to delete this partially copied file from the iPhone without having to restore it?

You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

The new search feature doesn't work for me

I'm a music teacher and all the music I need for my 8 classes/day is in iTunes.
It used to be that when you would search by a key word in the title, all the songs with that word
in them would show up in alphabetical order by title.
In other words, I could find the song I wanted fast, fast fast, while 28 sets of eyes were still on me.
Now, I may or may not get the song in the first list, it is obscured by albums and other stuff and
the short title line makes it nearly impossible to distinguish between songs with similar titles.
Then, I have to click the "show all" and many of the same problems still persist.
Is there a trick I need to learn, or do I just pray that Apple will give us a more functional search tool!!!!!
Plus when I click the song in the search list, does it start playing? NO! I have to find it in the other window that may
be partially obscured and click it there!. If you think I'm being to needful for speed and efficiency, you have never been
in front of a classroom with 25 hormone freaked students just looking for a chance to get off task!

If you deslect Search Entire Library Search will behave as before
Click on the small black arrow to the right of the magnifying glass in Search
Untick Search entire Library and it will work as in itunes 10. You may also notice a speed improvement

It's a 3rd party app. You really should contact Adobe Support and/or post in the Adobe Forums

Use Software Update or the OS 10.6.8 combo update to update your OS. Also, update everything SU has to offer for your computer. When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.

While in Finder, select the file (click on its icon once) then press the Spacebar.

The first thing to do: Make a backup of your iPhoto Library. Don't update iPhoto without having a backup of your iPhoto library.
When I tried I received the following message This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.
This error message means, that you did not yet associate your copy of iPhoto (preinstalled on your Mac) with your AppleID by clicking the "accept" button at AppStore "Purchased" page.
First try to "Accept" iPhoto on the Purchased tab and try, if you then can update iphoto from the Updates tab.
Now check the "Purchased" tab. Is iPhoto among your Purchases to "Accept" or "Install"? Then accept and/or install.
If it is not possible, delete iPhoto from the Applications folder .
(don't empty the Trash).
If it is not among your Purchases, open the AppStore main tab, search for iPhoto using the Search field, and buy it from the AppStore. If you already owned any version of iPhoto '11, this purchase should be free, from earlier versions it may be a paid upgrade.

Your photos are in your iPhoto Library in your Pictures folder and not in the iPhoto application. Just back up the iPhoto Library as a precaution, but reinstalling iPhoto will not delete your iPhoto Library.

Open the App Store app, go to the Featured pane, swipe to the bottom, tap the Apple ID and sign out. Tap again and sign in with the Apple ID of your choosing.

You can probably change the ID in the "iTunes and App stores" settings on the iPad....click on the wrong account ID , select sign out, then log in with your own ID, I have not done this but I think it works.....

See if any of the following help.
Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

My latest OS upgrade (to 6.1.3) resulted in loss of all music on the iPhone. It is still on my computer intact, but cannot get it back on the phone. If I click on music under the iPhone icon in iTunes, it shows me only voice memos. Help!

From the requirements point of view, you can happily move to iOS 6. From the user tranquility pov, it's a crapshoot. Remember that MILLIONS of iDevices have been sold, a couple of those just this past Xmas season and hence all with iOS 6 preinstalled. "Many complain in the forums" is a number that ranges in the 10's or 100's: i.e., a minuscule amount of the total devices out there. And. of course, nobody comes here to gush excitedly about how well his iGadget works; everybody here (save those of us regular users who attempt to help, we're not Apple employees) has a gripe, grumble or complaint.
I can tell you from personal experience that my i5 with iOS 6.1.4 works as desired. All my colleagues' iPhones with iOS 6 work as expected. And we have a particularly flaky Wi-Fi environment thanks to our less than stellar netadmins.
But in the end, it is entirely up to you. Will you bite the bullet, or wait some more? Check the new stuff that came with iOS 6 and decide whether or not to risk it.
