"The iPod cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13019)." without having sync options on?

I tried dragging songs onto my iPod but it keeps saying the error message from above. I've looked at other threads and tried what they say but the thing is that I manually sync my iPod, rather than having the settings for iTunes to sync it for me turned on. Also, I really don't want to restore my iPod because a majority of my apps and songs aren't on iTunes, only on my iPod, since my computer completely crashed a couple weeks ago. Please help, do you have any suggestions that dont involve me restoring my iPod?

  • The ipod cannot be updated.an unknown error occured (50)

    hey all,
I downloaded itunes 7 and was unable to update my ipod...i then updated from a friends computer(i thought the USB was the problem)without any hassle...i then downloaded 7.0.1 and am still having the same problem..cant update due to unknown error 50!!Anyone any tips..PLEASE!!

I tried some additional things and it seems to have fixed the problem.
First, I forced the iPod Service to close using the Windows task manager (control-alt-delete and then closing it). I then restored my iPod to its original factory settings using that option in iTunes.
I renamed the iPod and then set up what I wanted to sync with it. I have made a couple of changes and they have worked.

  • I keep getting an error message that says "the ipod cannot not be synced""an unknown error occured (13019).

I keep getting an error message that says "the ipod cannot not be synced""an unknown error occured (13019). I am trying to put albums on to my ipod by dragging and dropping. I have it set to manually manage music and videos. The albums appear in the music section under Devices, but they don't appear on my actual ipod.
I have never had any problems doing this before, only in the last few days.

I am having the exact same issue as you are with my iPod nano. This started happening the same day after I updated the iPod software, so I wonder if it is a bug within the software that Apple needs to resolve. I dragged 3 playlists of new music from my iTunes over to my iPod and sometime while it was trying to add those songs, the error 13019 popped up. Another note, which may not be related at all, was that iTunes told me at some point during this process (I believe before the error notification, but I'm not sure and that may be helpful to know) that I did not have enough room on the iPod to copy all of the songs, but it would copy as many as it could. What is curious, like in your situation, is now all the songs it supposedly copied appear to be on the iPod under the Device->iPod->Music label in iTunes when it is plugged into my computer, the playlists in question are also showing up there, and it does indeed say my memory is full under the iPod's general tab in iTunes. However, when going through my actual iPod when it is not plugged in, none of those songs or playlists are anywhere to be found.
Anyways, all the established solutions to the 13019 error do not apply to this situation, as my iPod has always been set to manually managed so "unchecking" the Sync Music option under the Music tab of the iPod and rechecking it will not work because it was never checked in the first place.  And voice memos are obviously not applicable since we are not talking about an iPhone failing to sync music.
Unless anyone can provide a new solution here, I may just have to take my computer and iPod up to the genius bar. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • IPhone cannot be synced - an unknown error occurred (13019)

I have the blues. My iPhone cannot be synced and is rejected in iTunes with the message:
"The iPhone "my iPhone name" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (13019)."
    Can someone here help me.
    TIA,
    Ken

I have a similar problem. After having a lot of drama with backups freezing and not completing I had to click on the 'x' to procede with any sync's. Now that 3.0.1 came out I decided to update when the popup came up saying would you like to update.
I went ahead, it downloaded the update then it couldn't install it and came up with errors. then my iPhone displayed the USB cable and the iTunes logo on the screen, now it won't do anything and iTunes won't recognise it.
I've tried to reset it, and reset my computer but nothing works. I am not uninstalling iTunes and re-installing it to see if that works. I now have lost everything on my iPhone I presume.
    I am furious.

  • Imported Error -   The file cannot be imported. Unknown error occured (-50)

I have the 30G Ipod. It has been freezing several times. I have reset and master reset several times. I used the updater program and restored the software (several times).
I also reinstalled itunes & ipod software from the cd and updated to the latest version of itunes.
Now I go to itunes, I see my ipod listed and as before I choose to import the file from my music directory which containes all my mp3 files. After choosing file, import, the error msg comes up saying the file cannot be imported. An unknown error occured (-50).

OK I'll do a basic explaination on what were about to do. When you use the "Restore" option in the updater, it does a quick format, basicly tagging everything on the drive inside the ipod saying "You can write over me". This is the same as a "Quick FOrmat" in windows.
Now theres a complete format called a low level or "Deep" format you can do in windows. THis goes thru and writes the whole harddrive in zeros AND maps off bad sectors on the drive or fixes them. this is what you have when the ipod clicks and freezes.
The steps you do are not that long, BUT the actual format can take hours. Some report gettin done in a hour others it takes 5 hours, so make sure you got the time before going ahead. You can do the steps before bedtime and let it format while you sleep. Make sure the PC is not set to goto sleep or shut off, if on a laptop leave it opened and plugged to its AC adaptor.
WITHOUT the ipod connected to the PC, hit ctrlaltdel keys to open the task manager. Select the "Process" tab, look for "iPodservice.exe". Highlight it and hit "End Process".
Now connect the iPod, it should flash the "Do not disconnect" sign and you will see it in windows under "My Computer". Rightclick the ipod in "My Computer" and hit format. UNCHECK quick format and hit start. Now this is the long part, you can stop the process half way thru, but I usually recommend to people to let it completely format to make sure it gets any bad sectors. Again its a long process so just be calm.
Once its done, reboot the PC so the "iPod service" is started again. When windows is back up YOU MUST run the ipod updater and restore it so the ipod is formatted into the format it needs. Only after this should you let iTunes get ahold of it and start loading it up

2GB nano. New to iPods. Help... Spent the last 4 days reading, plugging, unplugging into different usb ports on computer, reading some more and emailing Apple support. (Still waiting for a response)
I downloaded an audiobook from iTunes which is in my library and playlist. I tried to transfer manually from iTunes. Also purchased album from iTunes using my laptop. No problem transferring the album from laptop but constant Unknown errors (-50) when trying from my Dell. It is also new.
I have tried almost everything I have read about here. What's the secret I am missing?
I thought maybe because I originally logged into iTunes from laptop but then I read you can authorize up to 5 computers so I authorized both. Now if there is a trick to this, I'm stumped.

I have been troubleshooting a similar message, although mine said error-51 instead of -36. I always keep my Ipod in manual (disk) mode, with the exception of my photos, which sync automatically. Itunes would not update my Ipod at all, however, giving me a variety of error messages, such as "can't update, folder not found," etc. After much reading and a lot of trial and error, the last thing I tried actually worked! I deleted the Ipod Photo Cache folder, located on my hard drive in the folder that is selected for synching on the Ipod/Photo tab in Itunes Preferences. Once this Cache folder is deleted, go back into Itunes Preference/Ipod/Photos and you'll see that the checkbox next to synchronize has been deselected. Re-check this box and find the IPhoto folder you want to sync your Ipod to. You will get a couple of messages asking you to verify that this is the correct folder for synching your photos. Once I did this, answering "yes" to verify the correct folder, my Ipod started syncing without any error messages. The photos were all being re-copied and I received no error messages. I'm pretty sure all the trouble I'd been having was related to a corrupted Photo Cache. The cache rebuilds itself after it's been deleted; just be sure to point it to the correct folder in ITunes preferences on the Ipod/Photo tab. Good luck! I hope this works for you as well as it did for me.

    Hi there guys,
I had the same problem and have just fixed it for me. I used the process of elimination. If you go to your ipod summary and make slight changes to what you want to sync with your ipod and keep applying the changes until you get no error message. This will tell you where the error is. For me, when I chose not to sync photos with the ipod, I no longer got the error message.
I had a feeling from looking at other peoples problems that it may be to do with the files being corrupt or just slightly wrong(it's only a minor glitch) that you're wanting to sync. When I went to my folder I realised I had two versions of my 'Ipod Photo Cache' (not sure what the Windows equivalant is, i think it's basically where it stores the ipod versions of your photos on your hard drive) and the new version was in the wrong place. I then replaced the old with the new and voila. No more errors. (I now just have error -48 to contend with)
    Hope that helps, God bless

  • How can you get your music synced from iTunes to your iPod when a window pop ups on the screen saying"The iPod "Edward's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13019))?

I had 429 songs already on my iPod Touch. When I was in the process of syncing a song from my iTunes Library on to my iPod, a window popped up on the screen saying, ""The iPod "Edward's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13019)). I click "Device" on my iTunes Library to make sure the song was in my iPod. It showed the song that was recently synced now listed under "Device", but when I physically looked for the song on my iPod Touch, it does not appear on there at all. It all started when I decided to put a Playlist I created in the iTunes Library and transferred it on to my iPod. Do you know why it may affected my syncing process and is there any way where I could get the syncing function back to normal so that I can continue adding songs on my iPod? Thank you for listening.    P.S. My iPod iOS version is 4.3.5.
