The iPod "iPod" could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (6)

I know this type of error has been posted before but I've tried everything I've read in other posts and have not gotten anywhere.
When I try to restore my Ipod Touch, after it is into the restore for a while, I get the message:
+*The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (*6).+
iPod Touch 1G
Firmware 3.12
What I've tried:
- Rebooting host.
- Resetting iPod Touch - Holding down home and power for 10 seconds
- Using different computers with fresh versions of Itunes. Computers were running Vists, XP, and Windows 7.
- Putting iPod touch into DFU mode (Hold down Home and power for 10 seconds then let go of power until iPod goes into DFU mode.
I always end up with The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6).
I did get extended Apple care service but of course it ran out last month!
I did get a log from one of the failures if that would be of help.
Any suggestions?
Dave

Well my ipod is just out of warranty so I'm not sure if they will even look at it but I'll try tomorrow to bring it to the Apple store.
If anyone is interested here is part of the log file of the bad restore:

This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Usually this is caused by your antivirus or firewall blocking iTunes access to the Internet. It can also occur if the phone is jailbroken or if the computer you are using was ever used to jailbreak an iDevice.

Hi the iphone iphone could not be restored. an unknown error occurred (56). what mean that?

More than likely a hardware issue.  You will need to take your phone into Apple.
You can also use the search function type error 56 and you'll see other threads about the issue.   You can read for yourself, if other solution will help.

Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

the iphone iphone could not be restored. an unknown error occurred (1015).

1015 error: There are 4 possible causes of this error:
The activation server truly is unavailable. Rare, usually fixed within minutes.
Your antivirus or firewall or router's firewall is blocking access to
    gs.apple.com on ports 80 and 443.
Your iPhone is jailbroken or otherwise hacked.
The computer you connected to during the restore/update was
used to hack/jailbreak some other iOS device, and its
network database was corrupted during the process.

    Hi there vienna.hassan,

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if you manually disconnect the device during the restore process. You can resolve this issue by using USB troubleshooting, using a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

That last suggestion is not wise.  Apple doesn't replace logic boards.  Apple doesn't sell logic boards to anyone (individuals or companies) as serviceable parts.  Therefore, anyone that changes out the logic board is performing unauthorized service on the device, using either A) Counterfeit parts; B) Salvaged parts or C) Stolen parts.
That voids ALL support from Apple, period, for that device.
