"The iPod "iPod" is linked to another iTunes music library."

This message that my iPod is linked to another iTunes music library keeps showing up even after I allowed iTunes to erase my music on my iPod and replace it with the music in the iTunes library. Do I have to let it replace it all again?
Dell   Windows XP Pro

ok i'll try that now. and there are actually no songs
in my itunes since its been restored. so no, lol i
dont wanna loose all my songs.
ok, i guess AFTER you fill up your itunes wit all of your songs, i guess try it then.. maybe its doin this cuz the itunes music (in this case is none) is different then what is on the ipod, so it THINKS it is connected to another computer that has the songs on your ipod... so yea jus fill up your libary wit the same songs and then try it...cuz when you hook your ipod into another comp that has differnt songs then taht on your ipod, it says that message... soyea again jus fill up your itunes wit the music

  • The iPod is linked to another iTunes music library

My daughter just purchased an iTunes Shuffle with her birthday money. We imported several CDs into the iTunes Library and successfully loaded the iPod Shuffle with about 120 songs. We then turned off the computer. The next time we attached the iPod Shuffle to the USB port, iTunes opened up and gave the following message:
The iPod is linked to another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes music library and replace all existing songs on this iPod with those from this library?
Wow, that's a confusing question. I answered "no" to it initially, and the message went away, leaving my library empty. I disconnected the iPod Shuffle and then reconnected it and got the same question. This time I answered "yes" and our library is still empty. I can see all the CDs we imported in the iTunes folder and the individual songs are there as well. But for some reason, the library is not displaying them. iTunes also doesn't show the icon for the iPod when it's connected. Any ideas on how to fix this situation?

We are using this iPod on only 1 PC with 1 user with WinXP. I have been able to "file/add folder to library" to retrieve my daughter's songs. I also 'restored' the iPod to factory settings and updated it with the latest software and I did the same for the iTunes software. Everything is updated now. When I click on the button to "autofill" her iPod, I can get a few of the 118 songs in our library to download, but then I get an error messages that states, "Attempting to copy to the disk failed. An unknown error occurred. (-69)" Any ideas on what's happening here? Another I noticed that's strange is when I try to autofill the iPod, my 3.5" floppy light starts blinking. Perhaps this iPod software thinks the floppy is the iPod???

  • My ipod is linked to another itunes music library?????

I recieved this notice last time I logged into my iTunes. "The iPod is linked to another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes music library and replace all existing songs on this iPod with those form this library?
The thing is that I'm still using the same computer and never used another one to try to load any songs onto my iPod Shuffle. The Shuffle still has approximately 55 songs on it and I can't find them in my iTunes library. Anyone have any ideas as to how to put them from my iPod to my iTunes? Or how to find them on my computer to reload to my iTunes library?
    Thanks for any assistance,
    Sincerely,

A couple different possiblities can lead to this...
iPod's not only "attach" to a single computer, but also a single user account on that computer. Are you using the same Windows user account?
If you are, then possibly the iTunes Music Library file was trashed from "My Documents\My Music\iTunes". The "iTunes Music Library" files found in this folder must stay here and must not be altered (except by iTunes, of course).

  • I can't seem to create another iTunes music library...  Please Help...

I have tried what iTunes v9 tells me to do by holding the shift key while starting iTunes from the start menu...
    It doesn't work.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Has anyone found a fix yet?
    -Bill

You need to press AND HOLD the shift key. Keep holding it down until the prompt comes up.
If you still can't get it to work from the start menu, try it by clicking itunes.exe in
    C:\Program Files

  • How do i find the total numbers of songs in my itunes music library?

I scrolled to the bottom of the music listing to no avail.  I clicked on the various tabs, i.e., file, view, edit, etc., also without success.  The only way I was able to find the information was to print-out the first page of the list of songs from the file menu.  I couldn't find anything help from apple.com/support or the web.  Is there another/easier way?

I'd like to apologize to all that viewed, and especially those who responded with suggestions.  I apparently overlooked/didn't notice the total songs and length of time at the bottom of the screen.  I was exclusively looking for the information at the top.  My sincere apologies to all.  Thanks very much and happy holidays!

  • Itunes deleted my "Itunes Music Library.xml" file?

Here are the facts (and then I'll pose the question):
    -Ipod 80gb Classic
-Just upgraded to Itunes v. 7.4.2.4 (after following the pop-up window asking me to upgrade to the latest version)
    -Windows XP Pro
-My "Itunes Music Library.xml" file and the "iTunes Library.itl" file are stored in "C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXXX\My Documents\My Music\iTunes" but all of my music/tv shows/etc are stored in another location on my HD
    Here's the problem:
After I upgraded Itunes, the "Itunes Music Library.xml" file and the "iTunes Library.itl" file were replaced with brand new blank files (10kb and 32kb, respectively). When I open Itunes, the library is blank. All of the music files are still on my hard drive in the other location, but they do not show up in Itunes.
When I plug in my Ipod (which still contains all of the music), Itunes says "The Ipod "my ipod" is synced with another Itunes library...What would you like to do?"
    Here's my question:
How do I get Itunes to show the proper content that is already on my ipod and on my HD? I just need my old Itunes music library files back.
    Thanks in advance.

One point where this seems to occur consistently is if you reboot or turn off Windows while iTunes is running, and have a largeish music collection.
Explanation: Programmatically, iTunes main window apparently responds OK (=TRUE) to the Windows WM_QUERYENDSESSION message and at the same time starts to write the *.ITL and *.XML files to the hard disk. Meanwhile, Windows continues to end the session because - after all - it was OK'ed by iTunes. Now, if the iTunes music library is "large enough", Windows will finish ending the session before iTunes has finished writing said files, and the next time you run iTunes they'll turn up corrupt. This is a huge caveat during iTunes reinstallation, because most of the time a reboot is needed whilst iTunes will necessarily be running at the same time (consequently, if you have a largeish music library, always back up the *.XML and *.ITL files before reinstalling or updating iTunes!!!!)
This is nearly an elementary bug, and a sad indication of the level of testing done by the Apple to products before they're released.
Workarounds: I myself just frequently backup the *.ITL and *:XML files to a different directory, and restore if file corruption occurs. Another workaround is to have another program (say, Notepad.exe) with an edited but unsaved file currently open. When Windows session ends, you will have one extra chance to delay the session end, so that either you remember to close iTunes first, or if iTunes was closed first, it'll have enough time to complete writing the library metadata back to disk.
Asian and European phone giants have nothing to afraid about iPhone, if iTunes and iPod classic are any indication of its quality.

Thank you again for all of your help!! I really appreciate it!
I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.
Thank you for letting me know about my contacts! How do I know if I have the contacts app?
Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.
    Sync Contacts:
Your contacts are being synced with you iPhone over the air from iCloud. Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on you iPhone

I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over.  Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over?  I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another.  Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod shuffle it rearranged the tracks so that they are in the wrong order.  How can I put them in the order they appear in the book?

I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod Shuffle it put the chapters in the wrong order i.e. Chap 1, Chap 10, Chap 11 etc. rather than Chap 1, Chap 2, Chap 3 ...  How can I get it to put them in the order they appear in the book?

First, we need to know if the audiobook chapters are being treated by iTunes as music files or as audiobooks. If they are not audiobooks purchased from the iTunes store, they might be getting "shuffled". You will need to look at "File" - "Properties" (I think - I don't use iTunes under Windows - or right-click on the file and choose "properties") and look at the media type. If it is "Music", change it to "Audiobook". If this is not the problem, or does not fix anything, please post back.
Actually, looking at your post again, a second thought occurs to me - assuming there are less than 100 chapters in the book, just renaming them with a leading zero on the first nine chapters might do it. A computer will alphabetically sort filenames in the order you quote (1, 10, 11, 12, 13, ... 2, 21, etc.) but a leading zero will fix that (01, 02, 03 ... 10, 11, 12)

    1)  From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

    2)  If you do not have access to the iTunes Library on your Old computer... or its Backup...

  • Old 2005 Video iPod - How do I take music off and add to my iTunes music library?  And battery life issues...

I bought my husband a Video iPod clear back in 2005.  I bought the 30GB serial No 4V544C1WTXK Model number A1136.  Yes, very, very old.  However, it is an Apple product and therefore should be good forever right?    We actually rarely used it then and have not used it in years.  I got it out and brushed it off the other day.  I have two questions:
1-  I have some great music on it that I would like to transfer into my iTunes music library.  Is there a way to move it from the iPod into my iTunes library?
2-  It isn't really holding a battery charge even when it's been charging for hours.  Is there anything I can do about that?  Do I need to replace the battery?  Is there even a way to replace the battery?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

2-  It isn't really holding a battery charge even when it's been charging for hours.  Is there anything I can do about that?  Do I need to replace the battery?
Given the age of the device and that fact that it wasn't used for a lengthy period of time, it's likely that the iPod's battery is shot and in need of replacement.  Lithium-ion batteries need constant activity in order to maintain any sort of charge.  However, all batteries generally deteriote over time and lose their ability to charge.
Is there even a way to replace the battery?
Yes.  You can choose to have Apple swap the battery for a new one for the price indicated on this page.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
You could also choose to send it to a third party service instead to have them swap it out at a much lower cost.  A Google search for "iPod battery replacement" should give you a number of results to work with.

  • How do I move music from iPOD to iTunes music library

How do you move music that was once on your iTunes music library that is now ONLY on your iPOD back to the music library. I want to do this so that I can burn a CD. Maybe there is an easier way??? Please help!

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only

    YamiPod Mac and Windows

    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

If you do a restore you will lose everything.  Some things will be backed up in iCloud but not everything.
