I get a message "The Itunes server could not be contacted, check your internet connection" when trying to check for Ipod Nano software updates. I have a 1st generation Nano and haven't updated the software for a while. My internet connection is working. Was thre a change in the internet address for NANO software updates? Do I have to reconfigure something in Itunes to point to the correct address?

What version of iTunes are you using?  The latest is 10.6.3. In iTunes, choose Help -> About iTunes to check the version number. If it's lower than 10.6.3, download the latest version from here.

  • BUG: - iPod Nano Software - Clock - Arizona no longer in MST

This is a pretty simple one. Since Arizona started observing Daylight Savings time, they also now observe PST clocks which the iPod Nano software does not reflect.
I'm willing to bet this is a bug across more products than just the iPod Nano software.

I'd be willing to bet that Apple considers the
updated behavior to be the "Correct" behavior.
According to the Apple Nano Features Guide:
"Turn on backlight - If the backlight timer is set to Off, press and hold Menu to turn on the backlight"
I would argue that the issue I am experiencing after update is not the correct behavior. Every iPod made, save the shuffle, functioned this same way: hold the menu button for 1-2 seconds to enable backlight.

  • Ipod Nano software on 20gig iPod

Yo, do u reckon that the iPod Nano software with the world clock etc will be avalable for the iPod 20gig?

    Chris,
Noone is able to answer that. In fact, speculating is conflicting with the term of use on the Apple Discussions. It will get a topic locked or removed by the moderators.
But you can give feedback to Apple here.

  • Software update for the iPod Nano 6th Gen

Is there gonna be any software update for the iPod Nano 6th Gen for video playback??

Re: Software update for the iPod Nano 6th Gen
There is already new hardware for the nano (7th Generation) and it would take a hardware modification to put video on the 6th Generation Nano so no speculation was needed, Carl had the correct answer.
My Original iPod Nano received updates beyond it's generation, there is no reason to conclude this would not be possible for other models and generations. Why would the iPod Nano 6G need a hardware modification for video playback? It already can do analog composite video output for viewing slideshows with music and transitions on a TV and can handle full photo resolutions. The iPod Nano 6G seems more than capable from a hardware perspective of video playback, it's just that the screen is tiny small for viewing video realistically for any length of time with comfort. That can be rectified by using the onboard TV out feature, though battery life might be miserable. It has nothing to do with the release of the iPod Nano 7G.

Is this particular car stereo stated as being compatible with your iPod Mini?  If you aren't sure, check the manufacturer's support site or give the car stereo manufacturer a call.

Apple might release small updates for 4th generation iPods touch if they find serious issues like the FaceTime problem that made Apple release iOS 6.1.5 for the 4th generation iPod touch. However, this device won't receive any major iOS update.
The 4th generation iPod touch has got 256 MB of memory, and iOS 7 devices have got 512 MB or more of memory

You would be better off posting in the iTunes for Windows forum area since your issue is with that rather than an iPod Nano.

  • Is there a way to make the iPod Nano 7 run smoother?

I love the iPod Nano. It's great. I've had mine for something like two years now, and I love it. But lately it's been acting up. It connects to my docking station, but if you touch the iPod in anyway, it will immediately disconnect and stop playing music, even though it's still plugged in. Also, sometimes with earbuds, the music will fizzle, crack, or even stop completely. When used with other devices, the earbuds work fine. So, if you have any ideas on how to fix these problems, please let me know!

    Hey Harold the Lion Tamer,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your iPod nano (7th generation). The following resource outlines basic troubleshooting steps, and tips on the next best steps if your issue is not resolved:

    - Reset iPod nano. First, make sure iPod nano is charged. Then press the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes.
    - Restart your computer and make sure that you have the latest software updates installed.
    - Download and reinstall iTunes.
    - Restore iPod nano.

  • New iPod Nano user, updated to 1.2, then boom!

    Greetings.
I just tried to update the iPod Nano system software using the iPod Updater (for Microsoft Windows) software.
After it was done and it appeared successful, I safely disconnected the iPod Nano from the system. The Nano flashed the Apple/iPod logo and then the menu came up. It prompted me for the language (English), which is understandable as all of the the documentation I've read so far indicates some of the settings may be lost and need to be reset after a software update. After answering it (English), I noticed all of my copied music, podcasts, etc., were gone.
I promptly plugged it back into the system and iTunes didn't recognize it. In fact, iTunes just sat there for awhile.
    I rebooted.
During the reboot process, I unplugged the Nano (which is safe to do as nothing has a lock on the device until the OS loads) from the system. I logged into XP, launched iTunes, plugged the Nano back into the system, and it still doesn't recognize it and just hangs.
    Same procedure: rebooted the system.
This time, while the system was rebooting, I reset the iPod Nano via the two-button method. It seemed fine.
I logged into Windows and decided to "Restore" it to factory default with the iPod Updater software. I launched that program and when instructed to plug an iPod into the system, I did. The program just hangs.
iTunes loads and all of my songs, podcasts, etc., are there, but when I attempt to connect an iPod to this system, things get hosed. So, apparently this updated iPod (new) is hosing my system.
Any suggestions as I seem to be stuck?
Or should I just send it into Apple Service/Support?

    A FIX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ive been reading this over and over on different threads - with the latest Ipod updater (not proven, but it happened for the first time with me) the memory on the iPod (my 5th generation nano) got cooked.
    Symptoms after update:
    - The little wheel on the top left corner of the Ipod would spin occasionally, the USB device icon would show up in the taskbar, but iTunes would not see it and the iPod updater would lock-up/freeze/hang when trying recognize the iPod.
    - XP and W2K would sometimes freeze or lockup but always run slowly.
    - When browsing to the available disk drives, the iPod would show up as a removeable drive and when clicking on it, it would say "Insert disk".
    Days of madness follow:
I tried the 5 Rs and it did not work.
I tried disabling USB2 speeds and nothing.
I tried formatting it as suggested by one user (it made sense) thru MY COMPUTER/MANAGE/DISK DRIVES/ but it would not see the iPod as a disk drive there either to do that.
I tried 3 diff USB cables, 3 diff computers (1 XP and 2 W2Ks) - nothing but frustration!!!
Then, an epiphany. Looking at the back of the iPod and contemplating the dropping-it-from-your-waist fix someone had suggested (did I mention I was insane at this point?), I noticed this mystical symbol that I see every day on large, powerful looking silver boxes at work - an apple-esqe logo with a bite taken out of it. TAKE THE NANO BACK TO ITS CREATOR! IT WOULD KNOW WHAT TO DO!
    The FIX:
But seriously, I plugged my death-dealing Nano(I wrecked the settings on my main machine trying to get it work) into a Mac G5 OSX10.4.7 machine and it came up, but would not work properly - yet. I then formatted the drive thru Disk Utilities as DOS(FAT32)and the Nano was reborn! Works on all systems immediately without hiccup!
If you are swearing, pulling your hair out and spitting on people you don't know due to frustration with your iPod exhibiting these problems, FIND A MAC with OSX10.4 (supporting USB interface) or an Apple store and tell them what to do if they don't know OR ship it to me and I will fix the **** thing for you in a day for the cost of postage - REALLY! I was on the verge of hopelessness and feel bad for all of the others out there going thru the same thing.
Apple has REALLY dropped the ball on this one thus far with the lack of info/fixes from a PC perspective.
Contact me at [email protected] if you want to take me up on the fix offer and otherwise, hope this helps!

  • IPod nano software + windows 7

Recently I got a new laptop which has windows 7 on it. When I installed iTunes on it, it worked fine but then when I installed the software to connect my first generation iPod nano to my computer I started having problems.
After installation when I open iTunes a message comes up saying "Software required for communicating with iPods not installed correctly. Do you want to repair iTunes?"
After it does the repair iTunes will open but when I connect my iPod another message saying "Software required for communicating with iPod not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPods software."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and the software countless times and it still doesn't work. I have also gone back and made sure all parts of iTunes such as Bonjour were uninstalled as well. Nothing seems to work. Recently I also reinstalled iTunes and my iPod software on another computer and it worked fine. The only difference was my other computer was windows xp.
    Help?

    UPDATE:
While the iPod Nano would not even turn on in the two computers I tried earlier at home (and posted above about), when I plugged it in on my work computer (PC, Windows 7), the iPod Nano turned on fine as a brand new set up on this computer's iTunes and now it is working.
Very strange that it would crap out at home every time even though I changed the drive letter and followed all the other instructions.
I have to yet check if I can sync at home or not or if it will ask me to restore again!

  • The new nano software doesn't works well

I have installed the last version of the software of the Ipod nano and I cannot ignite the light of the screen when I push menu (during 3 sec). Obviously it is a bug of the new software because before the update worked well.

I know HOLY took me days to figure out how to fix it... if you have a mac i dont know how to fix but if you have Windows click on all programs on the start menu then look up ipod then click on the update b4 the one that you installed and it should give you and option to restore ... as it will i will come back as factory bought it will have no songs on it so you have to re add your song which wont take long

My ipod nano is no longer recognized by itunes after I installed windows 8.1.  The ipod nano still is recognized and works with a Windows 7 computer

    Hello, Pete.
Here is an article I would recommend going through when an iPod is not recognized by iTunes or the computer.
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369
Usually the resolution is updating the Apple Mobile Device Driver.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
