My new ipod touch (software 5.1) is rebooting constantly, white display problems, stuck problems, it is new, do you have a solution? is it software or hardware? I have visited you tube and I am surprised about a lot of problems like this
If you can't turn it off, then let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour, tyrb a reset and restore. If it continue to reboot then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

My ipod touch is currently running ios 4.2.1 I would like to run ios 5 or 6. When I try to update it on itunes, it tells me my software is up to date. Is there another way to upgrade the IOS? Do I have to go to Settings>General>reset>Erase all content and settings before I can get the newer ios? If this is the case, how can I ensure all my content is backed up prior to erasing it all. Is there anyway to check to ensure the backup is complete and comprehensive? THanks!

Does it light up at all? If not, you could have a battery issue.

My Ipod Touch 4th generation (8gb, iOS 5.1) crashes for no apparent reason. There is no rhyme or reason to when the crash occurs.
Once it crashes, the only way to reboot the iPod is to connect it to an external power source (computer or AC outlet). Once connected, it will reboot and operate normally.
When disconnected from the power source, it will operate for a variable periods of time (maybe minutes, maybe hours) then crash again. It can't be rebooted until again attached to an external power source.
Has anyone experienced a similar situation? Thanks for your help.....I hate to let you down. I live a long way from any Apple store, so I returned the iPod to the seller. I really don't know if I'll buy another.

I want to download the new software on my ipod touch, on a different computer to what i usually sync my ipod to, and it keeps telling me i will lose all my downloads. i it possible to download the update on this computre, without deleting my information, and making this computer the main computer to sync my ipod to?
A manual backup will help in your situation.

This is not my problem. However, I think it may be related to an old speaker. I was using the 30 pin adapter for about a week after the upgrade to 7.1.2. But I think with the update the speaker won't work anymore. I will try with a new speaker system. Thank you for trying to assist.

What is the current software version for an older ipod Touch? We have 4.2.1, which Apple Store says is not the latest.
ThxiOS 4.2.1 is the latest and last version for the 2nd-generation iPod touch. If iTunes isn't showing any further updates for your iPod, I'm guessing that's the model you have. You can confirm here:

that's the same update for iPhone and iPod Touch. but one is free (but you have a three years contract) and the other one is not.
you need to pay 4.95$ to get your iPod Touch 3.1 update unless you already paid for 3.0.
