The Ipod Touch wifi mystery

Ok sometimes I catch the internet sometimes I don't. Sometimes it says I'm conneced and then Safari says I'm not. Is there a way to unlock the mystery Networks? Are there free networks via satellite(just a guess) I'd even be willing to pay for it but does such a thing exist? Don't need wifi at home I use the PC but when out and about I could really use it. Is the fact I'm supposed to get internet access just a tease! Sometimes when connected by the time a page downloads I'm off again. Has anybody got answers! AAAAAGGGH help! sorry I needed that.

no. you can only access wi-fi networks when you are in range of a wi-fi hotspot (either public, or un-secured private networks). there are more and more of these public hotspots popping up all over the world, sometimes they are free, sometimes they aren't (usually for the paid ones it will load up a page in safari that will allow you to put in credit card details to pay for a certain amount of time.)
google wi-fi hotspots to find ones local to you.

In the iPod touch 5th generation can I put a wifi card like Vodafone wifi cards I put a wifi card in my iPad 3G and it works what about ipod ?

    Wi-fi card?
The ipod has wi-fi bult in.
Why would you need a wi-fi card?
It sounds like you are  talking about a SIM card, which has nothing at all to do with wi-fi.  It is for cellular service from a wireless phone provider.  If this is what you mean, then no.  Ipods are not cell phones and cannot access cellular data.

  • Whats the Best WiFi Router For The iPod Touch?

Dont know if this is in the right sevtion or not, but feel free to yell at me if its not lol
What is the best brand of WiFi router (e.g. linksys, D-link etc) For the iPod Touch? And are there any bad WiFi routers for the iPod?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!!

    I can confirm 4 brands.
    Linksys
    Netgear
    microsoft
Some cheap thing that came with verizon DSL
All have worked without any special configuration for the ipt.
Actually, I don't really think their is a better router, every network I have connected to worked, absolutly no trouble at all.
Btw- this message came from an 1.1.3 ipt via a netgear wireless connection.

  • Can u use the ipod touch without wifi like the phones do

can u use the ipod touch without wifi like the phones do

That depends on what you mean by "use".
Sure you can use it without wifi. Many apps do not require a connection to the Internet. The iPod app (or Music and Videos apps, I can never remember which the iPod Touch uses nowadays), for example.
However, iPod Touch devices do not include the "cell phone parts" - i.e. they cannot connect to cellular voice or data networks. Therefore, when an iPod Touch cannot connect to a wifi network, it has no way to transceive data with the Internet (short of Bluetooth, but that's a special case and I'm sure not what you're asking about).

  • Does any iPod model (or has any ever) other than the iPod Touch support iCloud or wifi syncing?

    No, the Touch is it.

  • Does the iPod Touch Bluetooth require wifi connection?

I have an iPod Touch 3rd generation and plan to upgrade to the 4 this winter but if the Bluetooth does require wifi I'll probably choose the iPhone. The reason I ask is because I want to get these Bluetooth earbuds since I'm sick of the wire. But, if the iPod Touch BlueTooth can't work while I'm out then what's the point in staying with just the iPod? I prefer having just the iPod but I am seriously that sick of the wire that I'd get the iPhone.

BT will work fine without wifi.

You have to type in the passcode. If you don't remember the passcode, read here. iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen

Two easy things to try (assuming you have the wireless icon at the top left of the screen):
    1. When you get home, go to Settings > WiFi and turn off WiFi. Wait a few seconds and turn it back on. Try Safari then.
    If that doesn't do it,
    2. Open WiFi and tap on the right arrow next to your network name. Tap on DHCP, scroll down and tap on Renew Lease.
If you don't have the WiFi connected signal, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and tap that. AFter your Touch returns to normal, log into the network.

  • Is the iPod Touch 2nd Gen no longer usable? Is this what is store for all Apple products?

I am very disheartened with Apple.  I have loved the iPod touchs up until now.  It seems the iPod Touch 2nd Gen no longer download apps that work on the 4.2.1 iOS.  I was just selling my wife on Apple products and now this has shut her and I down on all Apple products.  I hope I am wrong but is Apple partaking in planned obsolesence? If so, planned obsolesence is not marketing and I will be looking at other brands when it comes to electronic devices.  If not, how do you download apps for an iPod touch 2nd gen running a max iOS of 4.2.1?  Thank you.

Don't despair Look at "Vintapps" in the Apple app store.  It has tons of available apps for all those earlier ios devices.  And you can download them right to your ios device.  Many are free.
Although I wrote this 99 cent app specifically to help solve this problem, I need to add that "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link."
Be sure to keep backups of older software.  Once an app is updated, the older version is no longer available to be downloaded from Apple.

  • Ipod Touch-WIFI Problems-Can't Connect More than One at Same time

I'm not an Ipod Touch user yet, but three family members are. Unfortunately, only one will connect to the Internet on our home wifi at a time. Each one works just fine on its own and will make the connection, but if one is already turned on it blocks the others. I have a laptop and it connects fine regardless of the Ipod Touch issues. I'm using a Linksys router if that matters. Looked everywhere but can't find someone experiencing similar issues. Thanks for any ideas/thoughts/help!

Take a look at your router's settings for DHCP. Normally there is range associated for the allocation of IP addresses for wireless devices. For example, you would set DHCP to on, IP address range from 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.128. The normal defaults on the router should have given you an adequate range of address but you may have inadvertently changed something.

  • ITunes Store via iPod Touch WiFi download for Digital Booklet

I purchased Drastic Fantastic/KT Tunsall's new music Deluxe Version. I note that the Digital Booklet extras did not download to the iPod touch via the WiFi download. Nor did they download on their own when I did the synch with my laptop. Finally I went into my iTunes account via my laptop and viewed my purchases. Sure enough they were purchased. I then use the check for purchases on iTunes and it still didn't catch the missing booklets. Finally I went into my account to report the trouble and they started to download.
Are the booklets too big to come directly to the iPodTouch via Wifi? Are they supposed to download later on your computer when you go to the iTunes Store?

All videos and digital booklets are downloaded separately after you have synced your ipod touch to the computer and your itunes library. Every album that has a digital booklet states this at the very bottom of the album list on wifi ITMS. When you try to sync a digital booklet to the ipod touch you get a error message stating that "Name of booklet cannot be synced to the ipod touch." Its not a size issue just simply that they are not compatible with the ipod touch.

  • Ipod touch wifi help

I bought my i pod touch on the 13th and i am having problems connecting to wifi. Whenever i do get connected and i go to safari or youtube it says cannot connect. if it helps i have a link sys wireless g router. I also have th 22 letter encryption code that i put in correctly with capital and lower case letters using the arrow on the bottom left corner of th i touch

OK - so we know it's not an issue with the iPod Touch... that's a good start. Have you tried turning off the encryption on your network and retrying?
If you get a message that says "Safari can't load the page because it can't find the server" try resetting your network settings on the iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings), then powercycling your router (turn it off, wait 10 seconds, turn it back on) and then try to reconnect to your network.

  • What does the iphone have that the ipod touch doesn't?

i was just wondering what the iphone has that the ipod touch doesn't if there is anything. (Apart from the obvious phone and maybe the camera)

The ipod touch has most of the same functions as the iphone with the exception of the phone, the camera, and the gps (and any features that require those functions). My wife uses one as an ipod, a very nice device, especially if you are normally in range of a wifi network.

I have never done this myself,  however I know you can use some computer as the WiFi hotspots.  Macs do, and some PCs do.
There is not a way to physically connect the iPod to use the computers Internet connection.
