The Itunes Library File Cannot Be Saved. There Is Not Enough Memory Availab

Hi Out there ...
I get the above error message. Have done for awhile now.
I can play the files I have 307248 songs. And the the Library File is saved OK.
However if I try to add more albums, then it stops with the above error. If I try to ad artwork to an album. Like highlight all the tracks in the album and then 'Get Info', once this open, then add the artwork. The I get the above error message.
If I try to add a whole album by dragging it unto Itunes, then I get the above error.
I can add a song at a time ... But I have another 30000 songs to add ... so it's a bit slow.
I use Vista 64 bit, 8 GB Ram, and the library file is saved on a 250 GB disk, which is only half full. My 8 GB of memory is about ½ used when I get the error message. In other words lots of memory left, lots of harddisk space, no errors on the harddisk ...
What can I do to ret it working agian??
Is there an alternative to Itunes which will import playlists, playcount ect??'
Regards Leif.

Hej Keji,
Thank you for your suggestion.
Well in my case iTunes i just unstable all along these days. I'm looking for an alternative, one that is stable and one that can import the iTunes data files.
I think I may have a big library 'iTunes Libarary.itl' is 515000 and 'iTunes music library.xml' is 506000, this covers 312281 songs. However my computer is big too, the 1,50 TB files are on a raid of 5*500 GB disks, I have a dual core, and 8 GB of memory. So I can't really move the files around, so they are all in my music folder and then I add them manually.
Anyway iTunes just 'cant save', stopped working, hangs ... It's not any good It is only iTunes, the system stays up for days and other programs works.

You need to have enough rights to write to the My Music folder.
Most likely, your My Documents folder or My Music folder is missing or broken. Create the My Music folder in your My Documents, if it's not there, then use TweakUI to set it as the special My Music folder.

Thanks for your answer. I will try to force my login as Administrator by entering in Safemode. However, I'm running a Windows Based system, and the only user in my machine is mine, and it have been defined it as Administrator, so I don't expect a different behavior if i force the administrator by Safe mode.
    will let you know.

Does Itunes generate a Log or something that I can review and find details about that error message?

  • "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."

keep getting       '' the itunes library file cannot be saved. you do not have enough access privledges''  when ever i try to add or change my library, why? have tried  several suggestions on the internet to stop this from happening but with no success. i am running windows 7. has started happening since installing new security software. would this have anything to do with this problem? any suggestions

The location of the iTunes Library file may be read-only or owned by a different user.
    Default locations:
    XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<login>\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
    Vista: C:\Users\<login>\Music\iTunes
    Windows 7: C:\Users\My Music\itunes
Right click the iTunes folder and choose Properties
Look at the Attributes and see if Read-Only is checked.
Uncheck it and click OK, at the apply to all subfolders and files prompt, make sure all subfolders and files is selected and click OK.
If your iTunes library saves now you are done.
If it does not you will need to try on each directory above the iTunes directory.
Of course if you are not using the default locations you'll have to alter the path to the one you find in iTunes Edit->Preferences, Advanced tab.

Well, I installed the latest iTunes this AM, works perfectly.  Although for some reason it did lock up after playing a song today.
Horror stories?  That's a bit overly dramatic.
    No, it isn't.
The issue you are experiencing is one that has occurred in multiple versions of iTunes, a simple search would have revealed this.
A simple search was conducted, no one seemed to have an answer.  Do you always adopt such a haughty attitude?  Or was I just lucky.

  • Error Message: The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. Unknown Error 13001

    My error message says:
The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An Unknown error occurred (13001).
Ever since I loaded the new 3.0 touch upgrade I have been bombarded by error after error. I have turned off genius which seemed to fix the problem at first but about an hour later the error warning popped up again. I have tried the shift start and selected my library with no improvement. It seems to pop up if I load a new podcast or download something and then fails to download.

Hmmm, that error message came up a lot with older itunes & Genius, like 8.0 version. But you have 8.2.
I don't know why it would crash on a download unless it is maybe a permissions problem. The download starts, but permissions make it so it cannot save it at the very end? Make sure you have ownership and full control over your itunes folder and all its subfolders.
How to Take Ownership and Grant Permissions in Windows Vista
And since you've turned off Genius, try deleting these 2 files
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
Restart itunes and see if there is any difference....good luck!

  • Error message -48: The itunes library file cannot be saved.

    Hello,
When I open up my itunes i get an error message 48 - the itunes library file cannot be saved. All my data is there - music, podcasts etc. Just wondering if this error message means anything, if so what, and what I can do to fix it?
    Thanks!

I just called Apple Support and I think they helped me, but I'm still waiting to see if the error message returns. I was experiencing the same problem. Whenever I started iTunes, I would get the -48 error message. Everything else was working fine. Apple Support instructed me to delete some files from a folder and restart my pc. I did this and it seems to have worked. The folder is on my C:/ drive. Using Windows Explorer, I went to my C:/ drive and then opened the following folders in this order: "Documents and Settings", "Administrator", "Application Data", "Apple Computer", "iTunes", "iPod Software Updates". Inside the iPod Software Updates folder, I found four files which I deleted. I then emptied my trash can and restarted my pc. After I restarted my pc and opened iTunes, the error message did not come up. So it looks like my problem has been solved. Just some minor glitch having to do with the last update. I should mention that I did just get an iPod Classic 80 gig which replaced my 30 gig iPod Photo which just died.

    Hi there Br0x,
You may want to try rebuilding the iTunes library as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. ..."

"...There is not enough memory available."
But I'm pretty sure 145 GB worth of free disk space is enough... I don't understand. ;_; And I'm sorry if you guys have heard this a bajillion times before but none of the searches that came up were able to help my technically challenged self.
It just happened to me yesterday when the message randomly came up and kept coming back two seconds after I close it. what does it mean? I read somewhere that you're supposed to hold shift as iTunes is starting up or something but that already accidentally wiped out my library so I really don't want to go through that again... What's the problem?
    Thanks in advance!

I too have this problem. It started when I downloaded itunes 7.3
    Can anyone help?? Please !!
I am a new ipod owner, and am learning every day. I
    have itunes 7.3.
I put some tracks on my computer, and each time I
sign on to itunes, I get the following error:
"The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown
    error occurred (-50)."
    HELP! What does this mean???

  • The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unkown error occurred [-1450]

Has anyone encountered the following iTunes error,
" The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unkown error occurred [-1450] "
Whenever I shut my iTunes down the next time I start it up the library seems to be lost. I can do an Add Folder to Library from the File options, pick my iTunes Music folder and copy everything back in. However the whole repeats when I close iTunes down again. Have tried re-installing iTunes but this did not work.
    Has anyone got any suggestions,
    Thanks.

    == Error -54 ==
From an OS9 reference, error -54 is a software lock on a file or a permissions error. (Some of the old codes still apply to OSX although there is no formal list of OSX error codes.)
First, try simply restarting your computer.

Unknown error (-54) while syncing ipod - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1082953 - problem was locked files

  • The itunes library file cannot be saved (-48)

After migrating my library from an xp machine to a new vista machine, I get this error whenever I open iTunes.
The itunes library file cannot be saved (-48)
The most annoying result appears to be that my video iPod does a full sync every time now (as it can't save the library file, this isn't surprising).
Anybody know how to fix this?

I am getting this error on my Vista computer. I've tried rebuilding the library and that didn't help. Interestingly I had the same error on my old XP computer. When I migrated my music from the old to the new I copied the music files but I created a new libary files; so that indicates to me that the problem is not Vista specific.
I am starting to wonder if it's a software confict, ie some software that I had installed on both computers or a corrupt file among my music.
There is another discussion about this error here, but there's nothing conclusive http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1202649
BTW I have found that the error always occurs when I connect my 2nd generation Shuffle, but it also occurs randomly, particularly shortly after I have opened iTunes (even if I have not made changes that would require writing to the library file).
