The iTunes notifier (exclamation point at the farthest left)

The iTunes notifier (exclamation point at the farthest left)of the iTunes interface...that indicates a broken string...What is it called (so I can find faqs about them)? And most importantly, how can I remove ALL of the hundreds that have grown there other than one by one??
The exclamation point does not show until I try to play the tue...so I don't know which tunes will play until I try to use them.
Can anybody help with this?

I don't know of a direct way to do this, but there is a very talented person on these boards who writes scripts for these things. (Unfortunately my link to his pot of gold is broken---google stepped in and squashed him! HMMMMM!)
Anyway, I have this link left:
http://ottodestruct.com/blog/2005/10/20/itunes-javascripts/
Please note these two links, esp.:
Finds dead tracks in your library and makes a list of them: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/FindDeadTracks.txt
Removes dead tracks from your library (this one was actually written by Apple originally, I’m just including it for completeness): http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/RemoveDeadTracks.txt
Please know that I have never tried any of these things--so I am in no way endorsing them! I truly don't know if they work! It's up to you to test the waters!
Good Luck!

    Hello levon10
Just delete the song and then go through the process of downloading the purchase again.

  • I am having trouble viewing some of my pictures on iPhoto. A triangle with an exclamation point in the middle pops up instead, what can I do to get my pictures to show again?

I am having a hard time viewing some of my pictures or event file in my iPhoto library. Most of my pictures look blank with a black background and a triangle with an exclamation point in the center of the screen. Is there a way I can fix this issue?

Are they RAW image files and not JPG files? iPhoto does not support all types of RAW files. Get a Real Image Viewing/Editing/Cataloging program which iPhoto is not.

My macbook air will not connect to the internet. There is an exclamation point in the wifi icon and when i go into preferences i see that it is setting its own IP address. I have a macbookpro that is able to connect with no issue. HELP

Reset the TC to factory and start again.
Use all SMB type names for wireless and base station.. Not apple type names.. this is more important since Mavericks.
I also recommend different names for the different bands.
    So for example.
TC name.. TCgenx (I use whatever the generation number is for the x.. eg TCgen4 or latest one TCgen5)
    WIreless name.. TC24ghz for 2.4ghz
    TC5ghz for 5ghz
You can also set the channel manually.
If you still have issues.. start with no security and then if it fails to connect there is something seriously wrong with the laptop. Did you upgrade install Mavericks?? That can lead to driver issues.. I would recommend a clean install.

  • I can no longer see my pictures.....the screen is white boxes but when I click on the box an exclamation point pops up. Please Help!!!!

I can no longer see my pictures.....the screen is white boxes but when I click on the box an exclamation point pops up. Please Help!!!!

The exclamation point occurs when iPhoto breaks/loses the file path to the original file.  So try the following: make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot AND
the option to rebuild the small thumbnails.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How do get rid of the gray triangle/exclamation point

I have iphoto 9.1.5.  Recently I have had trouble accessing some of my older photos.  When I go to photos and double click on a photo to make it bigger the photo flashes quickly and is replaced by the gray triangle with an exclamation point.  The photo is visible in the bar at the bottom or top of the screen and if you go into the Master folder the picture is there and will open with Preview.  It appears that iphoto cannot locate the photo.  Thus far I have done the following:
Started iphoto holding down the command option and have repaired, rebuilt the library and thumb nails.
Used iphoto library manager and created a new library.  Of the 9764 pictures 4426 did not get copied with an error message stating that they could not be copied because they could not be found in the original library
I am not sure how long this problem has been an issue as it effects older pictures but I suspect something happend at the last upgrade to 9.1.5
How can I get iphoto to recognize all of the photos and get rid of the gray triangle?  Help would be much appreciated as I seem to exhausted the suggestions I can find on line.

    You know have two Libraries.
    A is damaged
    B is the Rebuilt.
You have to recover the files from A and import them to B
To Recover: Go to your Pictures Folder and find iPhoto Library A there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed. Find the files in the Msters Folder. Drag them out of the Library.
Launch iPhoto. It will open Library B. Import the files to it.

  • After  downloading IOS 7.1 on iPad, it will not come on. I picture of the plug with arrow pointing to the phrase "itunes " continues to appear.

After downloading IOS 7.1.1 on my ipad, it will neither boot up nor shut down . it maintains a picture of "itunes" phrase with a picture under that of the plug and cord pointing toward the phrase.  It is stuck!

It is restored now.  Thanks for the comment about disabling firewalls - we did that and tried again and it worked.

  • I have iPhoto 09 The cover of my book is cropped is perfect on screen but when I print it out it's cropped badly. There is a red exclamation point on the screen image but I have created 5 books and never had this problem. HELP

I am using iPhoto 9 to make a book. The cover of my new book looks perfect on screen, but when print it out before I have it published the cropping is all off. There is also a red exclamation point on the cover image. I have checked and rechecked but to no avail. Can you help? Bill Perlmutter

That red exclamation point can mean either that the image on the cover is below the resolution limit that Apple has set for photos to make good prints or that there is missing text in a text box or there's some text that has overflowed the text box.
The resolution limit that is set in iPhoto for photos is 110 dpi, i.e. the PrintWarningImageDPI value in this screenshot of iPhoto's preference file:
It's not an absolute thing.  Many have reported getting books that had photos with the low resolution warning indicator and it was perfectly satisfactory.
But check to see if it's an image or text warning.

  • Need to put an exclamation point at the start of each cell in a long column

    Hello
I'm new to spreadsheets and need to do this task asap. Hope someone can tell me how to do it.
I could go down the column and type an exclamation in before each number, but for 400 cells but I'd rather not.
    Thanks for any help
    Dave L

If these "numbers" are to be used in formulas, though, you'll have to do this a different way. You will create a custom format that puts an exclamation point in front of the numbers as you see them on the screen but doesn't actually change the contents of the cells (so they remain as numbers).
Go to the cell inspector (the "42" tab in the inspector).
Click on "Cell Format" and choose "Custom".
Type an exclamation point at the left of the existing format. To do this, click on the existing format, hit the left arrow, then type the exclamation point. You may also want to add in a "decimals" format on the right if your numbers are not whole numbers. Give the format a name. Click "OK".
Choose the rest of your column and apply the cell format to it (select the entire column, go into the cell inspector, and choose whatever you named the format you made).

  • ITUNES and Exclamation point problems

It is incredibly frustrating trying to support a program that has so many quirks in it. Itunes should be a lot easier to handle when it comes to file management than it currently is. I recently changed out my 250 gb main HD for a 1 TB hard drive in order to have the itunes music folder on the same HD as the Operating system. Apparently itunes has a completely different way of cataloging the music in the actual itunes folder, which is now called itunes media, than it used to. When I transfered all my files from the original 250 gb volume to the 1 TB volume via mac transfer, I thought that the current itunes on the original HD would also transfer, nope. Itunes couldn't access my itunes music folder which had not been moved to the new location yet beacuse the version remained consistent with the OS installer and not what was originally on my old HD. Hence newer itunes music folder (which it was still called) with old itunes, not good! I upgraded to the newest itunes via software update in order for it to even recognize my "newer" itunes folder and that's when things really went sour. I copied over the itunes folder over to the new HD and changed the preferences in itunes to select that as my new media folder. Itunes recognized nothing. all songs had a impossible exclamation point. I moved the itunes music folder out of the itunes folder on the main HD and had itunes create a new folder as its media folder. I imported a song in itunes with the copy all files to the itunes folder to see where the songs were going to be stored. It created a music folder within the Itunes media. Great I thought I just will dump the contents of the old itunes music folder into the new music folder. Most songs (I have 50,090 of them) have come back. Unfortunate news, I HAVE TONS THAT STILL HAVE THAT EXCLAMATION POINT NEXT TO IT. and why? because if an artist is featured and has another name by it such as Leona Lewis featuring One republic, itunes does not know to look via Leona Lewis with Album Echo, it just simply can't find it. I can understand where the coding for that may be a little difficult, but here is the real issue. That is just one song, but I have volumes of artists with other artists, and when I find one of the songs in a batch with the same issue, Itunes only recognizes that one song and expects me to search and rescue all the songs that are in that same Unfindable folder individually. I can't change the tags on the exclamation songs to help redirect it better and I am forced to re-import all those songs. I HATE THIS!If an album is called boneyard and I find one song in that folder, it should know that the rest of the songs from the album boneyard are in that folder, similarily to FINAL CUT PRO which I deal with on a regular basis. The two programs with the find my media helper are written by two people on opposites sides of the earth. FCP can determine that if an "issue" file is found and is grouped with another "issue" file it scans the folder to see if other files that you are missing are indeed in there, why can't itunes. And another thing, why is there no way of sorting the songs via that stupid exclamation point, so I can at least see what I am dealing with. I have to continually scroll up and down the music contents folder and do double takes to see if a song had that exclamation point on it.
Any help to ease this problem would be greatly appreciated.

+"I copied over the itunes folder over to the new HD"+
That was the mistake right there.
Once an item is in your iTunes library, iTunes will lose it if you move or rename the item or any of its containing folders.

  • Can match identify my vinyl imported albums in I tunes. Also for it to work will I need to load all the album details. Obviously the iTunes Store needs to have the albums on line

Can match identify my vinyl imported albums in I tunes. Also for it to work will I need to load all the album details. Obviously the iTunes Store needs to have the albums on line

Yes.  Matching Songs in Vinyl Albums is possible, usually though with a success rate of 20 - 40%.
Even with great care taken to improve the quality of the recording, the outcome is mixed.

You copy them from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The iphone is not a backup/storage device.
