The JB installation experience and findings (possible bugs?)

MOST IMPORTANT - if you phone appears hung - leave it alone! I would personally say if it appears hung longer than 15 minutes then it probably warrants a manual reboot at that point.
I was on the road when I decided to start the OTA pull. I was on 4G and my phone switched to 3G (in an area I always have 4G) and there it stayed until the OTA update was downloaded. Took me ~45 minutes for it to finish downloading. It rebooted - ran through it's little droid robot status bar thingy. When it reached the point of "updating apps" it appeared frozen. The little circle hour glass wasn't spinning. It sat there for ~5 minutes and then the phone rebooted. When it came back up a window appeared stating "updating 3 apps". Then the phone continued to load on up. Immediately I started getting application updates available. Google+, Google (something else or another) and a few other apps I run such as Astro File Viewer.
Under the hood of JB I found they added a new contact widget which I so badly missed having from my RAZR MAXX. I immediately added that and added the new contacts. Took the dog outside to pee and when I came back the first contact I added to the widget now also populated the 2nd spot (3 spots available). So it repeated itself. I went to edit it and then it changed back to the original contact I had put there. (bug?) I rebooted and the changes stuck.
I've noticed the phone "hitches" (sliding gets a little jerky) when sliding screens when an announcement appears. This particular instance was when a new mail from my Exchange server was announced as well as gmail. (bug?)
I benchmarked ICS and the best I could get with Quadrant on a fresh boot run was ~4900. I just ran it on JB and pulled 6097. That's pretty substantial gains right there folks!
I also noticed the shutdown/plane mode/restart menu has changed. It actually makes better sense now IMHO.
Over all I'm thankful Verizon "finally" got this update out. If I continue to have minor "hitches" I just might perform a good ole fashioned restore/wipe.

You need to buy PSE13. But you can continue with PSE9 if you download and install the free DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will work with yoir existing software(keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)

I tried to install yosemite yesterday and my computer goes through the whole installation process and then to a blank white screen.  I've rebooted, I've reinstalled several times and get the same result.  Two days wasted and I can't use my computer!!

I don't know if you've already resolved your problem, but I had the same thing, it took me 6 hours to fix it. I had the exact same as you, installed the update and then it went to a white screen. After trying start up holding down cmmd r or holding down the alt key to try to install it again, nothing worked, same result every time. Then an angel came to me here somewhere but I can't find it now to thank him. Start in safe mode, press shift once you hear the start up chime and hold it down until you hear it again. Installation completion box came up and it was working. turn off computer and start up again normally and all is well. Except my final cut pro x doesn't work with it, have to update that now too. same as when I updated to mavericks.
    Hope this helps.

I'm not entirely sure what your post means. Whether gift cards will become available in Egypt I don't know, I'm just a fellow user, I don't know what Apple might or might not be planning. But as I said, gift cards are country-specific.
If you are in Egypt then you can only use the Egyptian store. From the US iTunes store terms of use (and other country's stores will be similar) :
The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance.

  • SQL Server 2008 is the worst installation experience ever

Sorry but you guys have really messed up with SQL Server 2008 installation.
I've been using SQL server since 6.5, so I would classify as a fan.  We were looking at upgrading from 2005, which I was quite pleased with.
The installation experience is the worst I've ever experienced.  I am a computer expert, and I couldn't figure out how to install it properly.  Why is it that when I downloaded SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008, it seems as though it wants
to install the full database?  Why is it when I was asked if I wanted to install a new version of SQL Server 2008 or use a previous install, when I chose previous install, it said that an instance ID was missing, but there was no way to specify anything
    else?  It drove me crazy.
Why are there so many requirements and restrictions for the installation, when all I want to do is install Management Studio?  It's intolerable and makes me never want to upgrade to 2008.  Why is the process so terrible when Microsoft is supposed
to have the best UE people in the business?
You guys did a really terrible job on this one.

We have not tried to cluster 2012.  We used to cluster; however, we were not prepared to manage the added complications.  The result was that our non-clustered servers had better uptime.  We used to joke about how many 8s we were
getting with our cluster.  (To be fair, it did not help that we had a 7x24 SLA with only 8-5 staff.  When the cluster fails to failover, it can be a long time before it is fixed.  We eventually got the kinks worked out.)
I understand the frustration.  Excellence and stability can be achieved, but product lifecycles can punish those who seek such qualities.  Product changes and shorter support lifecycles produce revenue for MS, so I don't see this getting better.
There will be a new OS, new SQL, and a new set of problems the next time around.
I expect things to get worse until we get pushed into the cloud.  A stable environment in the cloud is profitable for MS and clients.  I do not think this is the case now outside the cloud.  Upgrading applications to remain
on supported products is very costly.  And about the only business benefit of the upgrade is that the product remains on a supported platform and gets security updates.  Sort of sound like that blackmail virus?  I'd rather pay to have a
patch for new features and focus on application upgrades that improve business processes.  Now bug fixes can require a major version change - which will have new bugs.  I'm ranting because of some head pounding
I've done this week due to a hard coded limitation introduced in SQL 2012 by design.  I'll replace the process, but I wonder how long it will work as my SQL related PSH often breaks with a new version of something.  I'll
stop now. Where'd my Prozac go?  Next week is new week, life is good, everything will work,....
PS I actually enjoy the work and think MS products are decent; however, our environment does seem to be more frail and less stable due to MS product changes - even if the products are getting better.  Better is worse - what an odd thought.

  • A question about Oracle installer and a possible bug in JVM

    Hello,
I appreciate if you could kindly guide me to solve the following problem.
I'm trying to install Oracle11g Enterprise on a Linux system (Redhat Enterprise 5.3).
There is no X system, and therefore I chose to install by using a response file
in silent mode. I set the parameters value as indicated in Oracle installation
guide. Yet, when I launch the installer, it seems that there is a problem with
    java:
    [oracle@ccsaplinux0002 database]$ ./runInstaller -responseFile /usr/local/oracle/database/responseFileV01.rsp -silent

[oracle@ccsaplinux0002 database]$I looked in the oracle package that I downloaded, there was no jdk or jre direcotry.
As a result I downloaded the JDK 1.6.0_15 available on Sun microsystem web site and then
I set manually in oracle user ~/.bash_profile the value for $JAVA_HOME.
    Why I get this error?

    Hi John,
Thanks for your reply.  The process of moving a license to another gateway can be done by the customer on the web site named HESULE  https://online.sciatl.com/license-it/.  You will need the HOST ID which can be found on the SYSTEM/License management tab. The HOST ID is essentially the 7 digit serial number with all leading zeros removed.
Be sure to use Firefox when logging in.  Entering your email is important because the new license will be sent back to this address.
In the License management tab, on the gateway you wish to remove the license from, record the 32 digit validation key number to the right of the license you wish to transfer.
Go to HESULE and start the transfer process.  Hesule is very secure - therfore you must "prove" to Hesule the license has been removed from the first chassis.  Hesule will issue you a new license with the license you wish to transfer removed.  When you load this new license and new validation key will come up on the screen.  Go back to Hesule and enter this key to prove the license has been removed.  Hesule will then email you another new license containing the license you are transfering. Load this license on the new RFGW1 and the process is complete.
Yes I understand I said a lot.  However, the process is described step by step on the Hesule site.
If you have any problems do not hesitate to contact me.
    Thank you   RON HANSON

  • I know that the iWork family pack can be used for up to five computers, but what if I install it again on the same computer? Will the second installation count and leave me with three more installions?

    Thank you.

If you reinstall iWork using the family pack on the same Mac, it won't count as a second Mac, so you will be able to install it legally on four more Macs

  • I have an IPhone 5 with the newest update and I am trying to sync the older podcasts of the Joe Rogan Experience and they will not show up. Seems like it only works for the newer podcasts, someone help me?

Would much appreciate it if you could help me solve this problem.

I can tell you that with Sprint their coverage area isn't as good as Verizon or AT&T.
Are you sending these imessage while on wifi or cellular data?  Also your husband would need to be in a good coverage area.
Usually when imessage is unavailable it will send it as a text.  Does your husband receive your imessage as a text?

You need the admin password you created when you first set up the machine.  Just about every installer running under OS X will require you to authorize the installation by entering an administrator password - even software update requires this.  You really should not forget your admin password, as it is required for many things in OS X since, unlike Windows, you often need to manually type in the admin password to proceed with an install or update (whereas Windows will take admin authority, if you are logged in as an admin, by simply clicking continue or yes).
If you cannot remember your admin password, you can reset it from the recovery CD that came with your mac - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274

  • I can't install mcafee siteadvisor  the installer stops and says, "A newer version of SiteAdvisor is already installed on your Mac."

I have a late 2013 Macbook pro with retina display running OS X (Mavericks) my siteadvisor had recently grayed out and was not protecting against sites so I uninstalled my acfee internet security suite (provided by Cox with my account) and the siteadvisor altogether. I then reinstalled the Mcafee internet security and went to download the siteadvisor website. Once I went to download the siteadvisor installer stops and says "A newer version of SiteAdvisor is already installed on your Mac." How do I get my siteadvisor installed and back working again.

The download, if you mean this one :
    https://sadownload.mcafee.com/products/SA/mac/website/McAfeeSiteAdvisor.dmg
includes the plugin, as well as other software.

  • At present I am using Firefox-25. The firefox quits without rasing the Browser.ShowQuitWarning(True) and my all the opened important tabs are closed instantly.

I have tried everything but no results. I am used to Firefox so don't want to switch to another browser. But this is a serious bug indeed.
When I quit Firefox, it quits without giving me the option to save the current opened tabs and every time when I restart it, it starts with previous session with all tabs once again. Which is really annoying.
Looking forward to your support ASAP.

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
    Please report back soon!
    Hope this helps!

  • When I open Firefox it just says firefox on the upper left corner and apperas to be open on the dock but there are no windows anywhere.HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One day randomly for no reason whatsoever, I opened up firefox on my mac and it just said firefox on the upper left as if it was open. the little upside down triangle appeared below the icon on the dock, like it was open. However, there are no windows anywhere. I click file and new window and nothing.
I right click the firefox icon on the dock and it says that there windows for example, my home page, but there is NOTHING.
I uninstalled and reinstalled and it keeps doing the same thing.
Your website has NO SUPPORT whatsoever and it has taken me a half hour clicking around to get to this portion where I can write what the issue is and no one will ever probably see this so whats the point. I guess I'm stuck with fucking safari now.
Firefox had been working great up to this point, I literally opened it the other day and this happened just completely random.

    Hello,
Sorry you are frustrated. If you have improvements you would like to make, you can file them to the [[Suggestion Box]] and the Firefox logo in the top left with upside down arrow is the Firefox button containing menu items. Try a clean reinstall as instructed below to see if it resolved your issue.
