The keyboard /mouse unresponsive in yosemite on my Mac Air Late 2010

How do I fix the problem of lack of responsiveness with my keyboard/mouse after installing yosemite on my late 2010 Mac Air?  Losing typing ability in mid sentence!!

If the following doesn't work, then there is a server error.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Logitech S 530: Mac Mini sometimes doesn't recognise the keyboard/mouse

    Hi!
I bought the Logitech S 530 for my Mac Mini Intel Core Solo some weeks ago. Sometimes the mac doesn't recognize the keyboard/mouse set and the Logitech Control Center say "No logitech-hardware found". And then all the extra buttons on my mouse and keyboard doesn't work. A simple restart doesn't solve the problem. Often I habe to switch of the computer or even deinstall und reinstall the driver. I wrote to the Logitech Support, and they told me to delete as a root-user some files and then to reinstall the Logitech Control Center. I did it, but the problem wasn't solved. Even if the Logitech Control Center told me, that the hardware wasn't found, the system profiler say:
    USB Receiver:
    Version: 22.40
    Bus-Strom (mA): 500
    Geschwindigkeit: Bis zu 1,5 MBit/s
    Hersteller: Logitech
    Produkt-ID: 0xc50c
    Hersteller-ID: 0x046d
Does anyone have a idea about this problem?
    Thank you,
    Sebastian

    Hi!
Has it continued to work alright since your last post
    on Sept. 30?
Yes, it works very good (as you can read, because I type on it!)
But I got some news from the APE-Support:
They told me, that this message in the system.log isn't a error message: "You'll see these messages simply to inform that Application Enhancer cannot and does not affect processes owned by root. They are purely informative." Then I asked, why this "information" is written in the system.log I got another mail. They told me, that this message came from a maxtor software, which I installed to use my externel drive. and: "The maxtor software doesn't use APE at all. APE is saying it cannot affect the software in any manner, in case you were expecting it to work with the maxtor software. I'm not sure if that maxtor software even works. If you don't use the button on your maxtor drive, you can just disable the maxtor software completely."
So, I seems that there is a problem between this logitech driver with APE and the Maxtor-Stuff. But, Ashleyn, do you use the maxtor software too?

  • The u, j, m and 7 keys on the keyboard are not functioning properly on my macbook air. Please Help!

The u, j, m and 7 keys on the keyboard are not functioning properly on my macbook air. In its place are a random assortment of keys (Ex - u = "eqrw" or "IOUY"). This randomly happened when logging back in after sleep mode. No liquid damage at all. Please help!

OK, I fixed the problem by doing a SMC (System Management Controller) reset as follows:
    1. Powered off my MacBook and removed everything connected except for the power chord.
    2. When powered off, I held "Shift" + "ctrl" + "Option" + "Power button" for 5 seconds or so until the little light on the front started to blink rapidly.
    3. Powered up my Mac, which took a little longer than usual to start and tested the "missing" keys which now works perfectly again.
Just added another couple of years usage with my aging mac :-)

  • Since upgrading to ML, the trackpad handwriting function doesn't work on my macbook air late 2010

    Hi All,
I've run into an interesting problem lately. I have several macs in my home and two in particular (the imac and mba) that my parents use had Chinese Handwriting enabled via trackpad. However, since upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion, those macs have an issue with enabling the Trackpad Handwriting option.
First off, I started to troubleshoot the issue with the iMac. After some fiddling around by turning the function on/off it seems to be fixed. I then went ahead and attempted to perform the same "fiddling" and steps on my macbook air (late 2010), and it just doesnt seem to work. The funny thing is, if I try enable it with the keyboard shortcut, the system seems to acknowledge the shortcut and displays an option in the menu bar to hide the trackpad as shown in the picture. But there's no Trackpad Handwriting to to be seen on the screen. I've even tried resetting the PRAM and SMC with no success. Any solutions?

Try swiping down with two fingers. This solved my problem.

  • Help, how to downgrade my macbook air late 2010 from os x yosemite to snow leopard

A very good friend just updated my Macbook Air late 2010 (OS Snow Leopard) to OS X Yosemite. Now my Macbook air is messed up. No sound. Left shift key not working.and so forth. I am wondering if I can return it back to my previous OS?
How to return it to my previous OS? Please help me. No need to back up anything, as everything is in my dropbox.

    1. Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Select Disk Utility from the main menu. Click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. When formatting finishes quit DU. Select Reinstall Lion from the main menu and click on the Continue button.

  • Has anyone had problem with Yosemite upgrade in mac air startup?

Since Yosemite upgrade my Mac Air has been slow to start up compared to to previous OS's.  I have been patient in waiting for a fix or an explanation.  If it is an accepted startup procedure, ok, but explain it.  The sales pitch still sell the notebook as a quick startup, a second.  Please advise if it is mine or an accepted OS quirk.  Thank you.

    Hanna,
Is this a slow white progress bar on a black screen boot slowness, or afterwards, including while the Desktop appears?
I suggest looking into your System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items tab. See if Safari is in the list, or something that wants to open a web link, and this launches the browser. You can remove these with the - button below the listing.
I have a 2014 MBA that was upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite 10.10.1. It didn't boot in a second with Mavericks either. That is an unrealistic boot performance expectation. It does however boot to a Finder Desktop within 12 seconds, and that is good enough for me. Wake from Sleep is one second.

  • Macbook Air Late 2010 display flickers after installing Yosemite

    Hi !
    I'm from Germany.
i have upgraded my Macbook Air, Late 2010 from Mountain Lion to Yosemite last Saturday.
The Installation works fine. At the first Time i have no problems, but:
One Day later i start my Macbook Air normally. Now the left side of the screen is flickering.
There are vertical lines to see. The right side of the integrated screen is ok.
i have resetted the SMC and the Power Management.
Please help, what can i do ?
    Greetings
    iRoGo

I noticed a similar issue with my MBA 2012 after installing Yosemite. The screen flickers slightly most of the time now. It's more noticeable with dark backgrounds. It almost 'vibrates' and is very annoying. Reminds me of an old monitor with a low refresh rate. I reset the SMC, PRAM, etc. and contacted Apple, who had me go through the same steps. The flickering is still present when booted into Recovery Mode. When I boot into Safe Mode the issue gets dramatically worse and I see screen artifacts like iRoGo describes -- parts of the screen blanking out, whole screen/parts of the screen flickering on and off, lines appearing, etc. It's basically unusable in Safe Mode.
At this point the issue seems to be hardware-related (i.e. issue persists in even in Recovery Mode), but I'm suspicious seeing that it manifested right after installing Yosemite. I will be bringing my MBA to Apple for service later this week...

Read and follow the Bootcamp Installation instructions that you were offered to view when you ran Bootcamp Assistant.
Run Bootcamp Assistant again and select the option to download the Bootcamp Support software. Follow the instructions. Then boot into Windows and install the Windows Support software you downloaded and saved.

  • Keyboard/Mouse Unresponsive

Anyone else having a problem with the keyboard missing the first few characters you type into a text field, address bar, search bar, or any other input field?
Also, I use a usb mouse and occasionally it will fire clicks uncontrollably until I restart the computer.
I've sent the computer in to get this stuff fixed, but it didn't help. Anyone know how to fix this stuff?

    Hi,
the problem actually is an old one, and nobody seems to know how to fix it... See this thread for a few stories, including mine (a thread with hundreds of reports concerning this problem was deleted by Apple after the issue was fixed by the EFI-Firmware update for some but not all users):
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8492642#8492642
I can't comment on your mouse problem, but I have pretty much given up on the keyboard thing being fixed. Let's hope for Snow Leopard.
    Cheers,
    Thomas

  • Keyboard/Trackpad issues with MacBook Air (Late 2010)

My wife used one of those clorox wipes on her MacBook Air and now she is having issues with the keyboard and trackpad. The option, command and shift keys do not work correctly and the trackpad thinks every click is a two finger "command click" (even though I turned off right clicking in the system preferences).
Normally I would try a PRAM or SMC reset to fix it, but the buttons needed to start one (cmd + opt) aren't working.
I plugged in an external USB keyboard and all the buttons work correctly.
Any advice on how to get these issues resolved? Is it a hardware issue that needs to be addressed by a Genius? Is it possible a clean install of OS X could fix the issue?
The computer hasn't had any issues before this and there doesn't appear to be any battery swelling issues

I made a Genius bar appointment for tomorrow. When I got home last night I took a look at it again (I have a hard time leaving broken things alone...) and for whatever reason, the keyboard started working perfectly again. I managed to boot into safe mode via terminal but the issue persisted. When I booted back into standard mode, the keyboard was working great. This morning when I woke up, it was not working agian, but after rebooting it, it has been working correctly for the last hour.
At one point, I booted into Recovery and looked at the system.log. One error that caught my eye was:
Keyboard Layouts: duplicate keyboard layout identifier -16900.
Mar  7 05:54:10 localhost Unknown[355]: Keyboard Layouts: keyboard layout identifier -16900 has been replaced with -28674.
Any idea what this is, or if it could be causing eratic behavior?
The other odd thing is I cannot boot into any disgnostic modes using shortcut keys before booting. I'd like to reset PRAM, run AHT but none of those commands are working.
I still have my appointment tomorrow, but I'm thinking it is not a hardware issue (with the keyboard at least) since it does work correctly some of the time.
