The # keys on macbook switched with leters below it.

A friend's Macbook number keys are switched with the letter key below it (pressing 1 shows a Q). She says it happened on its own and no one messed with it. It's a few years old, not sure on specs and OS beyond that. I'm thinking its a simple software fix and not a hardware problem. Any suggestions?

Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

There's gotta be a way under Edit --> Keyboard Shortcuts - but I can't find it!

When you use the Lion restore as described, it does a fresh install on the hard drive that you can select at the beginning of the process. This provides a complete install of the very latest version of Lion, including the recovery partition. The drive that you choose for the installation destination winds up like what you would have on a brand new computer from Apple.

Attach the charger and start charging the battery to 100%. The good news is that after you have connected the charger, you may start using the MBP as well.

Hi,
After a fresh installation of BPC 5.1 SP3 in a dual-server environment we're getting an SAP error - "The key is already associated with an element of this collection" after logging into BPC for Excel.
Has anyone seen this error before or know what is causing it?

We're using SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 2. We ended up doing the installation on a single server instead of a dual server environment. The error is no longer happening in the single server environment.
I'm still curious as to why we were getting the error in the dual server environment if you're seen this before.

How do I replace the contacts on MacBook Air with the contacts on my iPod Touch?

My main contacts list is on my iPod Touch which I sync with my office iMac. I want that list of contacts on my MacBook Air at home. Then I want to put that list on my new iPhone.
It appears that the default is for the contacts on the iPod Touch to be replaced by what is on the MacBook Air. That is the opposite of what I want.
My eventual goal is to have all my contacts updated using iCloud. The problem is that what exactly happens in these processes is not explained on the support pages that I can see.

Did you try to reset the sync history on your MacBookAir in iSync/Settings, delete the contacts on it, set up one contact after that and sync? This should trigger the message to merge contacts with your iPod contact list.
But make sure to have all devices backed up before you start.
You could also try to export your iMac contacts and import them on your MacBookAir again.

Using the mousepad on MacBook Pro with Lion.

I can use the wireless mouse very easily in the iMac with Lion.
The mouse trackpad on the MacBook Pro is much harder. Is it just a question of adjusting the settings ?

Since loading Lion, the wireless mouse works beautifully on the iMac. Just scrolling over the type moves the webpage up and down.
With the MacBook Pro, I have to find the cursor & then hold and move it down. The built in pad which I have been using for many years does not seem to have the scrolling facility. I must be doing something wrong, but I have not worked out how to change it.

Which is the most recent MacBook Pro with a hard disk?

I am looking to upgrade from my present MacBook Pro (early 2011). However, I found out that all new MacBook Pro's come with solid state memory instead of hard disks (which would be nice if it werent for the exorbitant price tag to get anywhere close to the 1 TB I require). In addition, they don't have optical drives anymore nor ethernet connectors. In other words, there really seems to be no "all-in-one, portable workhorse" solution left in Apple's line-up. Therefore I would be very grateful for any information on which was the latest model year for MBPs that had all of these features, or at least the hard disk?
(I realize there are workarounds to all of the shortcomings of present generation MBPs, but they require schlepping around additional hardware, dongles, connectors etc., thereby defying the purpose of a truly portable computer. I also understand that MacBook Pros have become lighter and sleeker - but for people who put a premium on light weight, there are already MacBook Airs.).

Monitor the refurbished section daily. Changes can and do occur frequently. My prediction is that the non retina MBP's will not be around very long, so if one comes close to your 'ideal', grab it while you can.

Should I get the 15 inch MacBook Pro with HD screen or regular screen?

I'm going to buy a new MacBook Pro 15 inch (I think the highest configuration), but I'm debating whether I should get the HD screen or not (most likely the glossy screen - I know the anti-glare is probably more functional but I think the glossy just looks a lot better.....). I've read that there can be problems with the screen (text too small or things like that). I just want to know, is the HD screen worth it or should I just stick with the regular screen?

I was in the USA last month and decided to get the 15" with the best spec available, so I wouldn't kick myself later. It came with the HD display - I specifically wanted the anti-glare. My previous 15" MBP also had the anti-glare option. Maybe it's a personal choice, but I prefer the anti-glare display - I hate looking into a display, and seeing a reflection of what is behind me on my display.
Anyway, I'm really happy with my purchase, and would make the same purchase if I had to do it again. I'm not too sure I can notice much difference in the HD display compared to my older 15 " though, pictures look pretty much the same (great), but maybe it's only noticeable working with very high quality graphics and images. I just purchased the mid 2013 MacBook Air with the 1.7 GHz Processor.

I was making a disk image using disk utility, and it was scolding hot. I checked activity monitor and it was using only about 30-50% of the processor and my fan was ramped up to full RPM...I shutter at the though of using more than 50% of the processor. Is this normal? Did I just have higher expectations of it than i should have? Are you just simply not able to use the Haswell processor like at all? For your info, i was making an image a hard drive partition to move it to another hard drive. It was only connected to one hard drive...Any one experiencing something similar or have any idea if this should be happening?

Maybe so, but when I am using it on the web and doing normal light tasks the temp stays around 95-130 depending on if I'm using plug-ins or not which is exactly what I would expect and have gotten with my other machines. So I don't think it would be wildly inaccurate at the upper end of the temp scale. (Not saying that is not possible, but I would think its unlikely). Thanks though for your input, I guess I will wait untill it breaks or Apple says "oops" and does a REP. It seems to handle a heavy load well now that I have had a chance to play with it more. It still gets like 205, but even using near 100% CPU or playing games it never gets any hotter.

Hi, it can't be upgraded (well not without some serious warranty voiding surgery to the internals). If you wanted to upgrade you would need to buy another one

When I switch desktops on iMac the speaker does not switch with it

When switching desktops, the internal speaker does not work from one to the other. I have to insert a ear piece end into the jack to get it to work....it is as if it is on mute when the speaker was working fine on the other desktop. I checked the settings for sound on both desktops and nothing appears amiss. What should I do? I can get it to work by inserting the end into the jack but it is annoying for it to be done everytime I switch to my desktop. I'm muted until I do!

Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.
