The lastest upgrade made adobe digital edition unusable. Has this been reported?

When I try to move my ebook to my reader I get an error message: Adobe Digital editions 3.0 has stopped working. This happened with version 2.0 as well. There were some suggestions to change some settings related to Firefox but that didn't work either. I'm using version 31.0 and windows 7

Go to '''Adobe.com,''' and update all of their software.

  • Upgraded to Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 and having trouble opening ebooks on ereader

    I upgraded to Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 from 1.7 which I use to borrow ebooks from the library.   I transfer the ebooks from my computer to my Kobo ereader.  Everthing was working just fine with version 1.7.  Since upgrading to version 2.0 I can no longer open ebooks that I have transfered to my Kobo ereader.
    I checked and Adobe Digital Edition verion 2.0 and it indicates that both my computer and Kobo reader are authorized.

    ADE sometimes gets registrations confused and half registered.
    Probably worth deregistering and re-registering.
    To de-register the computer, ctrl-shift-D to ADE (cmd-shift-D on Mac), restart ADE, and then reregister.
    That may well be enough, but if needed:
    to de-register the device, ctrl-shift-E to ADE (cmd-shift-E on Mac) with the device plugged in, restart ADE, and then reregister.
    ~~~
    There are also bugs in ADE2.0 that mean using it with some eReaders goes OK with most books, but not with Overdrive library books.
    My Sony PRS-350 is an example.  The only solution I found was to revert to ADE 1.7.2.
    (Quite a few other bugs in ADE2.0 as well).
  • Where is the user manual for Adobe Digital Editions?
    Where is the user manual for Adobe Digital Editions?
    Thanks to you both for your replies.
    I should have explained that I have already seen 'Getting Started with Adobe Digital Editions', an epub document that comes with the software.  It is only nine pages long, more of a quick guide than a manual. I had expected that there would be more to the software than is covered there.  Perhaps there isn't.  (To explain a little further: I was looking for a way to cause epub pages to print or display like the pages of the original book, but couldn't find anything about printing beyond.  That feature is present in the Bluefire Reader for iOS devices.  I tried printing a particular page using Ctrl+P and specifying the page number.  The page printed, but it was spread over two sheets of A4 paper and the page number was not printed.)
  • How do I open a acsm file with the newest version of Adobe Digital Editions
    I purchased an ebook that was delivered in the the Adobe .acsm format.  When I downloaded it, I specified that the Adobe Digital Editions as the app to open the file.  ADE launched, loaded my old books but the new book was not loaded. I also tried to load the book from the ADE, but the book shows up as a grayed out item that I cannot select.  I am running the book reader on a Mac running OS X 10.5.8 and have downloaded the lastest version of the ADE.  Has anyone else had a similar problem? Thanks, Yvonne
    I'm having the same problem. I have the latest Adobe Reader version, have Mac OS X 10.6.4, and I cannot open any .acsm file-old or new. I've also tried to load the book from the ADE, but the book shows up as a grayed out item that I cannot select. I've tried everything, but to no avail. I don't have any solutions, but wanted to let you know you're not alone in this problem.
  • Why am I getting the error: error getting license License Server communication problem W_ADEPT_CORE_EXPIRED when I try to download a book from the public library using Adobe Digital Editions. It has been working for a few months, but now I suddenly get th
    I have checked and the Adobe Digital Editions is authorized. The library book doesn't expire for another 14 days.  These have been the only two suggestions that I have found in other forums.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?
    I am having this exact issue. I just downloaded a book and went to open it and got this exact problem.
    I purchased he book through indigo/kobo edition and paid for it and immediately went to open it and am getting the same error
    Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem only mine says  Bad Device key after.
    Not sure why someone has not answered this question yet...i am using windows 7 and this is how i always do it. Never had this problem before when purchasing a book.
    i hope someone answers this soon.
  • Please how can I print out my book from the laptop I have adobe digital edition and the print is faded
    Sorry but I can not print from Adobe Digital edition. I bought and down loaded a book and now can not seem to print as the print request is faded out. Can someone help me thanks
    Hi Cherin,
    Printing a phone book (or an 'Address Book" as ontacts Help refers to it) is done directly from Contacts, and does not involve Pages. Details are available in Contacts' Help files. Try searching 'print phone book' (without the quotes).
    Your question will be better served in the Mail & Contactssection of the Mac OS & System Software community.When reposting there, be sure to describe the snags you've run into so that people responding can oncentrate on those without having to repeat what you already know.
    Regards,
    Barry
  • I am trying to download a book from Books a Million via Adobe Digital Editions and get this error:  Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_NO_TOKEN   So frustrated right now.
  • How can I re-activate eBooks in Adobe Digital Editions after changing the mother board of my MacBookPro?
    After changing the mother board of my MacBookPro to fix the video display issue, all my previous eBooks in Adobe Digital Editions cannot be activated. The error message: "Activation Server error - code E_ADEPT_INTERNAL". Please advise what I can do to read my eBooks again?
    Hmm, it shouldn't be that much of a problem. I searched my entire drive for "digital editions", and this is the whole thing:
    /Applications/Adobe Digital Editions 3.0.app
    /Users/user/Library/Caches/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app
    /Users/user/Documents/Digital Editions
    /Users/user/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app.plist
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app.bom
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.adobe.adobedigitaleditions.app.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.adobe.DigitalEditions.plist
    The application itself, three small files scattered in your user account, to unimportant installation receipt files, and another preference file in the root Library folder. Removing those should remove everything related to version 3, which is what I have installed.
    Where I substituted "user" above (for the three entries of /Users/user/...), replace that with whatever the actual name of your user account is.
    Edit: I double checked the installer using a small app that sorts out every file in an installer, and where each item would normally be installed. The main app is literally the only item in the installer. The receipts are created by the OS per the installer's data, and the other minor preference files are created when the app is first run. There is nothing else.
  • I'm having trouble printing pages from Adobe Digital Editions
    So earlier, I made the authorization to print the whole ebook.
    Upon my making this authorization, my computer was slow.
    I cancelled the command, figuring that Adobe Digital Editions would let me try again.
    Now it says I can only print 4 pages.
    This program is really dumb.
    How do I gain more pages available to print for the same ebook?
    interesting, check your settings first and make sure cables are connected properly (I know it sound obvious!) then try an app like hp eprint or print n share
  • I downloaded adobe digital editions, but I chose to proceed unidentified. I want to change it.
    I downloaded Adobe Digital Editons. I didn't know what to do (I'm 68, not exactly computer savvy), so I opted to go forwward not identified. Now I found out that I can't move the material I bought to the tablet my sun just gave me and I can't event print it. Only afetar reading getting startedm, after I made the download, I found that outl I tried reinstalling, but it didn't work. How can I change my status? Am I doomed forever?
    I had a similar problem: I could not side-load library books to my Nook Glowlight from my new computer because I was prompted that I could not use my Adobe ID so I did it without authorizing. Then I was prompted that I did not have permission to copy my downloaded library books to my Nook.  After days of working on this and going in circles I finally was able to reauthorize my Adobe ID by doing the following:
    Solution
    Deauthorize the current user:
    Open Adobe Digital Editions.
    Press Control-Shift-D (Windows) or Shift-Command-D (Mac OS) to deauthorize Adobe Digital Editions.
    Choose Help > Authorize Adobe Digital Editions
    Additional information
    This issue occurs when you have previously activated with an anonymous Adobe ID. The deauthorization process deactivates the anonymous ID and allows you to sign in.
    If  you made any purchases with the anonymous ID, contact the eBook provider to reset the activation information. Then, redownload the purchase and it is tied to the currently activated ID.
    NOTE: So this last part is very important ... you must go to your public library's website and choose a new book to download ... ANY books you had downloaded without authorization will NOT work.  It says to contact the ebook provider but I just let those books be returned to the library and I will borrow them again sometime in the future now that my Nook is working with my new Adobe Authorization ID.
    PS.  I had also tried resetting the NOOK glowlight as others have recommended by "erasing and deregistering" but this did not work because my problem was with the Adobe ID which needed to be changed.  My old ID must have been in place with my old computer and it would not work on my new computer and that's where my troubles began.  I ended up using the Authorize without ID (anonymous) option and once I did THAT, I did not have permission to transfer the books to the nook.  I could read the books on my computer but I could not transfer them, "no permission to copy".
    About ACSM files and EPUB formats:  If your library book doesn't show up in your Nook library, try this when you open Adobe Digital Editions: Click - FILE - Add To Library- E book tab - Adobe Content Server Message - select your book file and OPEN.  This will complete the download of your book into EPUB format.  You can also double click the ACSM file in your downloads folder and that will do the same thing (convert to EPUB).
    Also, on the Nook, your book will be stored in My Files when you drag it to your Nook from your computer.  Remember, to side-load, your Nook must be attached to your computer using the USB connection and your Nook will appear in the side panel in ADE. Click and hold the book you want to transfer to the Nook and drag it over to the Nook listed in the ADE left side panel.
    I hope this was helpful to people.
  • How can I properly and COMPLETELY uninstall Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 from my Mac?
    OK, so yeah, I *SHOULD* have known better...
    A few months back, against my better judgement and without doing the proper due diligence, I tried installing Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 onto the primary drive of my MacBook Pro (running MacOS 10.6.8).
    The tell-tail signs:
    PROBLEM #1
    While there IS readily available "Tech Specs" documentation for the current Adobe Digital Editions v4.0.1 installer for MacOS (which clearly states "Mac OS X v10.8 or later" is REQUIRED), there is absolutely NO indication or similar documentation for supported system software for PREVIOUS versions of Adobe Digital Editions.
    Reference URL:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/digitaleditions/downloads.html
    PROBLEM #2a
    Adobe Digital Editions v3.0 for MacOS comes as an installer (which REQUIRES admin authentication to provide root-level access to your computer).
    PROBLEM #2b
    Adobe "Digital Editions 3.0 Installer" is FULLY launchable under MacOS 10.6.8 (and the installed application will require MacOS 10.7 or later).
    PROBLEM #2c
    There is NO associated ("ReadMe" type) support document included on the "ADE_3.0_Installer.dmg" disc image and ZERO integrated documentation within in the installer.
    PROBLEM #2d
    There is NO Adobe "Digital Editions 3.0" UNinstaller either installed as part of the "Standard" installation package OR currently downloadable from Adobe.com.
    PROBLEM #3
    Adobe's ONLY MacOS solution to "Uninstall previous versions [prior to the current v4.0] of Adobe Digital Editions for Mac OS" are the following instructions:
    It's necessary to have administrator privileges to complete these steps.
      1. From your user directory, locate /Applications
      2. Drag the digitaleditions1x5 folder to the Trash, and empty the Trash.
    Reference URL:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html
    PROBLEM #4
    Adobe's "What are my contact options?" page indicates BOTH "Chat (within 90 days of registration)" and "Forums" as available "Basic Support" options for Adobe "Digital Editions" software for "Download, install, setup" help, however, "Forums" is the ONLY available choice under "Contact options" for on Adobe's "Contact Customer Care" page (for "Download, install, setup" help with Digital Editions).
    Reference URL:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?step=ADE_downloading-installing-setting-up_s tillNeedHelp
    PROBLEM #5
    The ONLY available "Basic Support" option for "How-to's & troubleshooting" help is the Adobe Forums...and this is an example of the type nonsense response (then followed by NON-response) that one might receive there:
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/6570142
    [NOTE:  After MUCH searching I did, however, manage to find a potentially interesting "Let us know how we’re doing" link (under the "Our support promise" link found on the "What are my contact options? page).  I am going to send them a brief message along with a link to THIS post and hope for the best.]
    Reference URL:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact/what-contact-options.html
    PROBLEM #6
    While I did NOT realize this prior to my attempting to install Adobe Digital Editions, apparently it would require me to "activate" my computer with an Adobe ID.
    [NOTE:  This information IS included in the readily accessible FAQ (and I am sure it's also found in the installer integrated software "License"), however, this is a MAJOR "feature" of this software and could be presented MUCH more prominently as an installer integrated "ReadMe" screen.]
    Reference URL:
    http://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/faq.html
    ...and, as an added bonus, there is a SIGNIFICANT "spyware" issue with this software discussed in further depth here:
    http://the-digital-reader.com/2014/10/06/adobe-spying-users-collecting-data-eboo k-libraries/
    As an experienced and life-long Mac user, I really SHOULD have known better and I did have second thoughts almost immediately, but by then it was TOO LATE!!!
    So, now I have this TOTAL crap, super duper DRM software that required root-level permission to install (AND I couldn't even run this installed v3.0 copy under my preferred MacOS 10.6.8 if I wanted to...but, of course, I now have ABSOLUTELY NO desire to ever use this software again), and I just want to COMPLETELY remove all traces of it from my computer!
    A pretty thorough Google search yielded several so-called "solutions" that were as bad or EVEN worse than the very limited "official" resources found directly from Adobe!
    Any actual, real working solutions would be VERY greatly appreciated!
    Thank you SO MUCH for your time and consideration in reading!!!
    Sincerely,
    aadams77
