The letter "Y on keyboard is not working

When I bring up the keyboard in an application I can not type the letter "Y". I can type "T and "U". Anyone have a suggestion on how to fix the problem?

It sounds like a hardware problem - show it to Apple.

    1. Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM and SMC. Doesn't usually 'cure' keyboard problems you report, but it costs nothing and only takes a few minutes.

    2. Try plugging in a USB keyboard. Doesn't absolutely have to be a Mac keyboard. A PC keyboard will work for a test. If the typing problem does not occur with the USB keyboard, you have a temporary solution until you can arrange to visit a repair facility.
    3. If your MacBook is older and has a user-removable battery, shut down the computer, remove the battery, and examine it for signs of 'bulging' or swelling. Then connect the computer to the Magsafe power supply, without reinstalling the battery, and turn it back on. If the keyboard problem has gone away, it was likely caused by a swelling battery.

  • The old "sleep using keyboard commands" not working issue is back again

All the way through Leopard the keyboard shortcut for "sleep" wasn't working.
Then in SL it started working again.
Now in 10.6.7 it isn't again.
    All constructive suggestions welcome.

I have exactly the same trouble that Tom has (or had?)
I get this in Console, endlessly repeated. I have the slim aluminium keyboard plugged into USB and the mouse is plugged into the USB on the keyboard. It does not make any difference if anything else is connected to the Mac or disconnected - hard drive, printer etc.

Do you mean just doing a restart. Then yes, but it did not work

  • The keys on my keyboard do not work all the time. I have to strike a key more than once before it appears on the screen.

I've changed batteries on my wireless keyboard with no help. It is a Wireless Keyboard 1000. I'm thinking it could be caused by an addon, but not sure which one.

  • Hp Mini 110 1013tu Keyboard is Not working after upgrade to win 7

Hello need help on weird happenings to my keyboard..
Before i upgrade the Operating System From Windows XP to Windows 7 the Hp Mini 110 is working fine..
All keys on keyboard is working and touchpad is also working.
But after upgrading to windows 7 some keys on keyboard are not working like z,x,c,v, left ctrl and other more keys..
what do you think is the problem??
    Hardware Issue? or Driver Issue?
    please help thank you..

    Hello @MysticDragon ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand some of the keys on your keyboard are not working after installing Windows 7.
I do not see any drivers available for your notebook for Windows 7 on the HP website, so their might be some compatibility issues as it's going to rely on Windows update to find current drivers. This doesn't mean it will not work, but I cannot say for sure that it will.
    Try this:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click Control Panel.
    3. Click Clock, Language, and Region.
    4. Click Region and Language.
    5. Click the Keyboards and Languages tab.
    6. Click Change keyboards...
    7. On the General tab, make sure English (United States) - US is selected in the Default input language field.
    8. Click on any other keyboards in the Installed services list.
    9. Click Remove.
    10. Repeat for all other non-English (United States) keyboards.
You may also want to try rolling back to Windows XP and see if the issue persists. It is possible the issue is coincidental and not the direct result of the update to Windows 7.
Let me know if this works!

  • Touchsmart 520-1047c Mouse and Keyboard will not work after sleep mode

I have an issue which I need some help with. When my computer goes to sleep the wireless mouse and keyboard will not work unless I restart, however each one will wake the system up but will not operate after that. I have tried just making the display go to sleep, both go to sleep but that makes no difference same issue occurs. The only work around I have found is going into the power settings and turning the sleep mode off for booth the computer and display. This does not solve the problem it just masks it. New batteries, unplugged and replugged the dongle, updated the bios and all drivers. Don't know what else to try. Anybody know how to fix this? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I understand that the mouse and keyboard on your desktop computer does not work if your computer enters sleep mode, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! To correct this issue, I recommend following the steps in this document on Troubleshooting sleep and hibernate issues (Windows 7). This should help enable your system to wake from sleep mode using your wireless keyboard and mouse. I also recommend connecting wired peripherals to diagnose the functionality of your keyboard and mouse. If your system is still not able to wake from sleep mode, please follow the steps below to restore the default power schemes on your computer: Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Command Prompt"
Step 3. Right-click Command PromptStep 4. Click Run as administrator
Step 5. At the command prompt, type powercfg /restoredefaultschemes and press Enter  reference: http://superuser.com/questions/669571/windows-8-1-64-bit-power-schemes-gone Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. • On screen lock screen, the keyboard does not work, switching to the switch-user screen the keyboard works again

    Mac OS-X 10.7.5, Mac Air.
This began about 5 to 7 days ago.
    Steps to reproduce:
    Step 1:
Close the lid, or the system 'powers down', or goes to the screen saver mode.
    Step 2:
Open the lid, press the power button, or what ever to wake up the Mac Air
The "Enter your password" screen is presented.
They keyboard is not responsive, I cannot type anything.
The touch pad works, I can power on/off the machine.
    They keyboard is not functional.
Result: I cannot log in again.
Expected behavior: The keyboard should be working I should be able to unlock the screen.
    Workarounds:
Then click on my name, or any other user of the machine and it works fine.
I can now unlock the screen and return to where I was.
    Expected behavior:
I should not have to go to the "Switch User Screen" to log back in.

    More detail:  Some keys on the keyboard do work, ie: caps lock toggles the led, and the function keys across the top seem to work {that is I can adjust brightness, and so forth}
the letter and numbers, and perhap others do not work.

  • My mac's keyboard is not working with my mac.the green light blinks and i cannot get onto my mac. everything on the support questions does not help because i cant go on the mac and i cant sign in

my mac's keyboard is not working with my mac.the green light blinks and i cannot get onto my mac. everything on the support questions does not help because i cant go on the mac and i cant sign in

If you can't sign in, then you can't troubleshoot and/or pair the keyboard until after that........ so, for that, you will need to borrow someone's USB wired keyboard in order to get signed in and to the Keyboard Bluetooth Preferences.
