The licensing cost for Apple Remote Desktop is not clear

I can see that Apple Remote Desktop costs $80/£55, but is this per-seat or is this the admin software?
The only other information I can find is that there is some unlimited admin cost option, but the costs are really very unclear. Please can someone state what the costs are?
I'm not an IT admin but am looking for something for our IT department because I need to deploy fonts and Office templates to around 80 Macs.
If ARD is extortionate, what are the alternatives?

The copy of ARD sold in the Mac App Store is the adminstration application (the client is bundled with all Mac OS X installations), and is for working with an unlimited number of clients. For personal use you are licensed to install the admin software on every machine you own or control. For business use you need to purchase one copy for every computer on which you wish to install that admin application. This is detailed in the software licence which you can access and read by clicking the License Agreement link in the page for ARD in the App Store.
Regards.

ARD won't be as smooth as you think  over the Internet and be a security risk for your daughter.
Your best bet would be to install nannyware, then when she's asleep you can review the logs.

  • What are the bad things about Apple Remote Desktop

What are the bad things about Apple Remote Desktop? Need it for my assignment

Is your assignment about managing a classroom full of Macs?
Otherwise, Screen Sharing, or a VNC client/server, or TeameViewer.com, or LogMeIn.com might be better, and less expensive.
ARD is intended for managing a classroom or office full of Macs. It is overkill for remotely accessing a remote Mac or two.

  • Apple remote desktop will not show my  computer screen on class screens

    Hi
I hope someone can help. i have just set up a mac suite running latest OS X 10.10 using apple remote desktop. The system is a bit sensitive but mostly works fine. The odd computer drops off etc.
However, I want to be able to show the teacher computer on all of the class screens as the projector screen is quite small at the front of the class. When I set up screen share it says it is working but it does not show on their screens. They do get a screen sharing message on the menu bar of their computers but nothing happens. Am I missing a setting? I think I am doing right!
    thanks
    Tim

  • Apple Remote desktop does not start

    Hello,
I just bought Apple Remote desktop (3.7.1) on the App Store.
When I launched it on my iMac (17", 3.4Ghz/8Gb/1Tb) under OSX 10.9.1 the menu of Apple Remote desktop appear but nothing else, no window.
When I put my cursor in the menu the color wheel runs, when I click on it, nothing appen (=App frozen).
I uninstalled it (with CleanMyMac2), repaired the disk permissions (with Disk Utility), redownload Apple Remote Desktop (from the AppStore) and I have the same problem when I launched it.
Could you help me? I need to establish a professional connexion to an other country.
    Thank you
    Regards

  • Video tutorials for apple remote desktop 3?

On apple's website http://www.apple.com/support/remotedesktop/  when I click to video tutorial "easy set up" it takes me to products page.  Can someone tell apple to fix their website.  The manual for remote desktop is daunting so I was hoping to get a video of the basics.  THanks, matt

Thank you for your reply... I resolved this issue about 5 minutes before I saw your response. When I had installed ARD3, ARD2.2 remained installed rather than being overwritten as I expected. When I started ARD, it was ARD2 that actually started and it did require lower case serial number. I removed all ARD instances, reinstalled and it took the correct SN. Dumb Technician error. Thank you.

  • What Apple Remote Desktop is NOT?

Is there a way to run a Remote Server at my home computer and then connect to it from my MacBook Air when I'm on the go? My computer at home is on a dynamic IP via cable modem and router. So I have no fixed IP to connect to.
However I know there are remote desktop apps for iPad and iPhone that are able to connect to their server software running on your Mac at home, regardless of it's IP. I've been having trouble finding one for desktop OSX clients. iOS4 can't be the only OS that has this.
Thanks for any assistance to my newbie self.

iOS apps that have this capability do because they are run through some hosted service and do not connect directly to the computer. The hosted service is responsible for tracking any IP address changes. You can use a similar service, such as LogMeIn, if what you want is to be able to take control of your home system, or something like Slink if you want other services. Or you can as Templeton suggested set your desktop up with DynDNS or a similar dynamic IP/domain name service so that you can connect to the system by using just a domain name.
    Regards.

  • Can't input Serial number for Apple Remote Desktop 3

I've just finished installing a new MacPro with OSX 10.4.8 and all software updates. Hardware includes wireless keyboard and mouse otherwise it's a vanilla machine. I installed ARD 3 and attepmted to input the serial number. The field will only accept lower case letters and numbers but the serial is listed in all upper case. ARD says invalid serial number. I tried with a USB keyboard as well but "no-go." Will someone please help me. Thank you

  • Where is apple remote desktop?

Where is apple remote desktop installed?

Note that the administrator software for Apple Remote Destkop is not included with Mac OS X. You have to purchase it. It's available from the Mac App Store for $79 US if I remember the price correctly. Once installed, the administrator application will be the Applications folder.

  • Is there a way to open the mic using apple remote desktop

Is there a way to open the mircophone channel using Apple Remote Desktop so I can listen on anything thats happening at my computer at home? If not is there another software that would work?
Also is there a way to use apple's software to control and watch a PC?

Is there a way to open the mircophone channel using Apple Remote Desktop so I can listen on anything thats happening at my computer at home? If not is there another software that would work?
You would have to launch software that would accept audio from the microphone and transmit it to you in some fashion. ARD does not transmit audio itself. Another remote control solution such as Timbuktu might transmit audio, so you could look into that, perhaps.
Also is there a way to use apple's software to control and watch a PC?
You can install a VNC server on the PC and ARD can then take control of the system. It can be tricky to find a VNC system that will work with ARD, though, so search this forum for "VNC" for possible options. One of the applications that support Microsoft's remote desktop architecture such as their own Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac or iTap Mobile RDP will probably work better, though.
    Regards.

  • What is the cost for apple to fix display

Macbook display is blacking out as the lid is moved backward. From other research it appears to be a cable shorting out. Wondering what's the ballpark cost for Apple to fix this at a local store. Or would it be cheaper to buy a new macbook.
    Thanks

It really depends on what the actual problem is, and AFAIK Apple doesn't list any prices for store repairs anywhere.

  • Apple Remote Desktop Dashboard Widget v3.6 not functioning as advertised

Just saw there's an updated (A)RD Widget.
I've downloaded it but seems exactly the same as previous versions.
I can't view widget of MacMini Server. Instead has yellow triangle with exclamation point.
Can't interact/launch ARD by clicking on widget of any individual compter, SL or Lion.
Grey screen with or without spinning wheel for Lion clients.
Anyone getting the 3.6 widget to funcrtion as described?
    From Apple:
About Apple Remote Desktop Dashboard Widget v3.6
The Apple Remote Desktop Dashboard widget* gives you an instant, at-a-glance view of the remote computers in your network.
It’s fully integrated with the Apple Remote Desktop administrative application, so a click on a particular computer will allow you to select and start working with any computer in the system.

    Same thing here.
    I have 3 macs.
2 iMacs and a MacBok Pro.
MacBook Pro and iMac 1 (the newer) works fine with the widget. But both can't see the iMac 2, only the exclamation mark
