The lighting of the keyboard

In my new mac book pro the lighting of the keyboard doesn't work. It is activated it the pref. pannel but when I click on the F6 orF5 key I get an icon saying I have no access to that. What can I do?

I suddenly have two flashing lights on my keyboard by the caps lock key and over the end/pg up key.

I encountered a problem waking my laptop (Pavilion dv7-1270us) this morning. At first it would not wake up and had to do a hard reboot. Now I have two flashing lights on the keyboard -the caps lock light and the one over the end/pg up keys over the number pad. My Macbook air (only 2 months old) has a black screen and I cannot see to get signed on, the keyboard seems to be on as I can see via having put on the Caps key which lights up and also the power cable when connected is at green how do I fix this?

I have been faced with a Black screen this morning when I have gone to sign in/open my Macbook air this morning. I can see that the keyboard seems to be on as the caps key when pressed is lighting up as is my charger cable link, however have noticed that the apple logo is not lit up. Any thoughts?

Try booting the Recovery Partition. Power off, boot and then hold down the Command and R keys. Is the screen still black? If so it is not a software problem so take it in for diagnosis and repairs. Make a Genius Bar reservation http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ or find an Apple Authorized Service Provider https://locate.apple.com/country .
If you are running Mavericks try upgrading to 10.9.2. It has a fix for black screen problems.

Accidental damage is not covered under Apple warranty. And it seems there is much accidental damage. Only a Genius Bar tech looking at it can tell how much it will cost to repair.
Cost to repair will be high, I suspect (though Genius Bar will confirm/deny.
There is no gentle way to say this sir/ma'am ... someone will need to pay for your friend's MBA repairs.

My IMac has stopped seeing the keyboard. I have changed the batteries and the green light comes on saying it is looking to pair with the IMac but without success. I am left with the IMac switched on and I am unable to enter a password.

I have been using my IMac without a problem when I left it and went back to enter the password the IMac did not see the keyboard. I have changed the batteries and the green light comes up on the keyboard and then starts to flash indicating it is looking for the IMac but nothing happens. I have tried another set of new batteries with the same result. Is there any known problems in this area. The IMac is 5 months old.

What operating system does your iMac have? (please always post your operating system to prevent confustion).
If it's pre-Lion you will have to set Mail up manually:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Tiger

Apple Aluminium Wireless Keyboard - Bluetooth setup sees the keyboard but then green light flashes and it won't pair

I am desperately hoping someone can help me out here...
I have a 1st generation aluminium Apple Wireless Keyboard — the one that needs three batteries, as opposed to two — and it refuses to pair with any of my three Macs.
I was originally using it — for a few years — on an old G4 Mac Mini running Tiger then later on, Leopard.
I recently sold the Mini but in the days leading up to the sale some strange things were happening with the keyboard ...the number '7' key became non-responsive 90% of the time and the Keyboard Viewer app showed it as being constantly pressed down. Every other key was working 100% ok.
Fast forward a few days after the sale of my Mini: Now when I try to connect the keyboard to any of my other Macs, the Bluetooth Setup sees the keyboard no problem at all but when I click 'Continue' to go the the pairing stage, the process just keeps failing!
Whenever I turn my keyboard on I get the expected solid green light for two or three seconds, but after that the keyboard's green light keeps repeatedly blinking until I turn the keyboard off again.
I did notice that the Bluetooth Setup will only ever see the keyboard in those first few seconds when the light is a solid green ...if I wait until the lights starts blinking and then start up the Bluetooth Setup, it does not see the keyboard at all.
If anyone can shed any light on this, I would be enternally grateful!!!! ...especially as I was recently made redundant — that's 'Laid-off' for any Americans reading this! — and I would rather not have to buy yet another expensive Apple keyboard when I'm jobless and really should not have to!!!
I read about a lot of people who's Macs sinply don't see their keyboard, but it's extra frustrating for me as my Macs do see the keyboard but won't bloody well pair with it!

What MacBook Pro have you got? Only Unibody MacBooks Pro (Late 2008 and newer) have a backlit keyboard. If you have one of these MacBooks Pro, you can set up its illumination in System Preferences > Keyboard. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4882

Try restarting your MBP. Use the mouse, go to Apple menu (top-left) and select Restart.

The Illuminated lights on my keyboard no longer work

I just noticed last night that my Mac Book Pro's Illuminated keyboard lights no longer work. They used to work without any problems but now they don't. I don't use this feature often, so I don't know how long the problem has been occuring. I only just noticed it last night.
I tried resetting the PRAM and the power management, to no avail. The "Illuminate keyboard in low-light settings" button is checked in system preferences.
The strange thing is, I can press the keyboard light controllers on the keyboard and the indicator of the light level appears on the screen, but the lights don't actually come on.
The ambient light settings for the display are working fine. I don't understand what's going on with the keyboard lights. It's very irritant.
My Macbook Pro is one of June 2007's models, the Santa Rosa 15", 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. It came with Tiger and I upgraded to Leopard in December. Last week I upgraded to 10.5.3. Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, as I said in my first post, that box is toggled. It still doesn't work. I've tried turning it off and back on and it still doesn't work.
I haven't even had this computer for a year yet already it's breaking down. 3 months after I bought I had to have the LED replaced because it was defective, and now this.
Why is this professional laptop that costs as much as it does breaking down after barely a year? I never had these problems with my IBM ThinkPad laptop. I only needed to take it in for support after 4 years of solid performance.
I don't expect to see these problems in a supposedly professional computer that is barely a year old.

Why is the keyboard brightness of my new macbook pro retina is behaving in an opposite manner in low light

I racently bought a 13'' macbook pro with retina display (late 2013) and everything works fine with the exeption of the keyboard brightness. when I chose the adjust function in low light it suppose to increase the brightness of the keyboard during dim light, however, it's doing quite the opposite and the brightness is dicreasing making it harder to see the letters, how can I fix this problem?

Hi BobRz, you are probably talking about the screen display which normaly dims during low light conditions, and that's true. but my concern is the keyboard brightness, it suppose to increase in low light conditions, but instead it dims to the point that i can no longer see the letters on the keyboard. I have viewed a youtube video about the normal adustment function, and mine is doing the opposite

You can turn off the keyboard lights by unchecking System Preferences > Keyboard > keyboard tab > Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light. Then use F5 to lower the keyboard to off.
The Monitor can't be switched off but can be reduced to almost off using the F1 key.

Light sizzle in the top left of the keyboard in MBA 13" 2010

Hello,
My new MBA 13" (4Go, 1,86Ghz, 128Go) make a very light sizzle in the top left of the keyboard. I think this is the fan's noise because the sizzle stops when I turn off the computer and it starts again when I turn it on.
Do you hear the same noise in your MBA ? When I work in silence, it is quite disturbing...

No, it won't be different to return it. You could go to genius bar at a store and let them listen. But likely they won't be able to hear it. I don't know if anyone ever positively identified the source of the sound. I remember one speculation was that it was related to frequency stepping done by the CPU to reduce power. This post takes about one person's experiences with the sound. The early Intel MBP also would make a very faint "moo" sound just before a fan would kick on. That was even more strange.

The ThinkLight toggles on/of with keypress of Fn+PgUp - the one with a light bulb symbol on it at the top right hand corner of the keyboard.
