The lightroom library is corrupt

hi,
i use lightroom very often and my problem is it says me to backup my library so when i do so after that it checks whether my library is alright then it shows a message saying that "we'r sorry the lightroom library is corrupt and cannot be used" and lightroom closes what shall i do but then there is an option SKIP and then the lightroom opens with my previous library but then i have about 60 pictures in there and all worked upon so i dont want to loose the work on them anytime so how may i correct my library and i also wanted to know how can i make one more library thanks for any help

I'm experiencing similar problems...
My library works fine in the latest beta, but when I try to start the trial version of the official 1.0 release, it wants to check the integrity of my database/library. It then finds out it is broken and turns off.
If I choose to not test the integrity, it crashes after a while when converting the database.
Since I've a backup, I can still, with no problems, run the beta.
But I'ld like to upgrade, but there seems to be no way of exporting my images together with the captions and the keywords :( Even if there are ways of exporting and importing it with develope settings.
Does anyone know where the problem might lie? Or if there is any way to, in the beta, "rebuild" the library/database..?
Thanks a lot in advance,
BR
Victor

  • We're sorry, the lightroom library is corrupt and cannot be used.

    Has anyone seen this message.
I just downloaded lightroom, installed it and get this message when I try to open the program. I have reinstalled multiple times to different drives with the same problem. Beta version has been deleted.
    Any help greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Here's my update: Moving the existing library from its current location allowed LR 1.0 to open normally (no Ctrl + click necessary)--except it starts with a dialog stating that it doesn't see a library, and gives you an option to create a new one or browse for an existing one. Since I don't have 17 hrs. to mess around, I said to create a new one instead of browsing to the existing one I just moved, although I'm interested to know whether browsing to the existing library would (a) merely vault you into the cursed "upgrade" process from hell and end up with the library is corrupt message, or (b) perform a real integration of the existing library. (I'll let you know when I develop a free day and the patience of Job to experiment.)
OK, now I'm in LR, with no galleries (or collections or whatever they're called). I select Import and cruise to a Windows folder that has RAW files, corresponding .xmp files from LR beta, and some .psd and .jpg files I previously created. The next irritation is that when you find the folder you want, there's no Select This Folder option; instead, you have to Ctrl + a to select the entire folder contents--and then the previously grayed-out Selected Files (or Selection or something like that) is available.
Also, and here's the REALLY irritating part, there's a dropdown to select what types of files you want to select, but the only option is something like Supported Files. Even though the folder I'm now looking at contains .xmp files that I can see in Windows Exporer, apparently they are not "Supported Files," because they're not now visible to select for the Import.
When I hit OK or Open or whatever the "let's get going" button is, you come to a dialog similar to LR beta, where you can enter keywords, select from saved metadata templates--YIPEE, my LR beta copyright template is there--and a couple of other things.
When you hit OK (or whatever) again, the import finally occurs. Now, I see all the RAW files, but from a quick glance, I don't see the .psd and .jpg files I created from some of those RAW images and stored in this folder. Also, it doesn't appear that any of the .xmp files tagged along for the ride, because if I now "Develop" a RAW image that I previously Developed in LR beta, only the RAW image shows--none of the tonality adjustments, crop outline, etc.
Finally, I went to the folder in Windows Explorer and just clicked on one of the .xmp files, to see whether it would open up the related RAW image in Developer Mode, with the beta-edits information indicated. No such luck: A dialog blooms that asks which program to use to open the .xmp file. If you select LR, it says the [corresponding] photo is already in LR and will not be imported.
Bottom line: The procedure I long-windedly described above does not recover your beta edits.
Any other ideas for how to accomplish that? Any why would LR 1 go backwards and not give you an option of just importing the entire folder you're looking at, instead of forcing you to Ctrl + a the contents and only then clicking OK or Open?

  • How do I place the Lightroom Library on an External Drive?

Q: How do I change the location of the Lightroom Library on an external disk drive whilst also ensuring that lightroom maintains the connection with the new location?
A: The easiest way is to copy the folder containing the Lightroom Catalog and the Previews to the new disk drive, navigate to the new folder location, then double click on the Catalog file to relaunch.
Note: the Lightroom catalog and preview package use the
    lrcat and
    lrdata extension respectively.

    1. Drag the library to the external drive, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, click on Choose Library, and point it there.
    2. Get a second. Having the backups on the same drive as the original data won't help when that drive fails.

  • If Adobe has disabled the ability to use Lightroom 5.7 to view the images in the external harddrive, how does one view the images in the file on the external drive without bringing them back to the Lightroom Library?

Jpeg images dragged over from Photoshop are veiwable as thumbnails on the external harddrive.  However images brought over as RAW of DNG are not viewable.  Is there anyway to view these type images on the external harddrive?  It would be nice to have a glimpse of what you are bringing into Lightroom by just looking on the external harddrive as you can with the jpegs.

From the Library simply click the import button and navigate to your folder on the ehd. Choose the folder and click Add at the top of the dialog. You should see thumbnail previews in the import dialog where you can select what to import.

  • How can I get back my sliders in the Lightroom Library Module?

I would be really grateful if someone could please explain how can I get back the exposure sliders on the Library panel? I don't like using the stepwise adjustments. I know that the sliders are available on the Develop panel but one of my friends has Lightroom CC & can use the old slider system. Unfortunately I can't find any information as to how to adjust the settings back to sliders.
I am using the latest updated version of Lightroom CC on a Mac.
This may seem a minor issue but it is driving me crazy!
Newbie here (as far as forums are concerned)
    Thanks in advance...
    Martina

Exposure is not available as a slider in Library.
You can gain finer granularity on Exposure and other controls in the Quick Develop panel with the [Shift] Key.

  • Lightroom library is almost 5gb after importing photos

I am new to Lightroom 5 and just imported about 4000 photographs.  I just added them to Lightroom since they were already on my hard drive.  I was amazed an confused why the Lightroom library file is almost 5 gb.  I have yet to do anything else except import.  I didn't think the library file would start to get large until I started processing and editing the files.  What can I do to not have my library file get so huge, or is this what I can expect with Lightroom?

Minimal means a thumbnail-sized preview, so anything larger than that would be recomputed at the time you first view the photo.  If you feel you'll be scrolling through all 4000 photos in Library Grid view at some point then compute Minimal previews.
I'd compute standard monitor-sized previews the first time you import a new folder of photos so you can do your tagging and flagging and rating and rejecting using the Fit or Fill zoom levels without waiting too long.  If you find yourself needing to zoom in to check focus on many of the images then maybe computer 1:1 previews for the newly imported folder, otherwise zooming into 1:1 will require a preview to be computed rather than looked up from the previews folder.
Once you go to Develop the previews aren't used except as a placeholder until the on-the-fly rendering has occurred as you zoom in or out or flip to the next image in Develop.
You'll figure out what you want to do after working on a few folders of images, the tradeoff between getting started on any of the photos in the folder vs waiting longer as you move to each one for the first time.

  • Removing Edited Images & Remembering Changes when importing back into the Lightroom

I'm looking for the following solution:
    I would like to
1- edit raw or jpg files in lightroom,
2- remove the images from the lightroom library.
3- import them back when needed with changes and ratings, basically with all the changes being remembered.
How can I make import back the images, including the changes I made to them?
Please help & email me too if possible.
    Thanks,
    Alexander

Could you describe what you mean by removing images from the library? To some it means deleting from the database and trashing the actual image; to others it means removing the info and pointer to the file in LR but leaving the image in place; still others - possibly you- mean it to remove the images but leave the database and Previews.

heidie22, dj_paige has a very good point there. I would not through away the NEF files; I would archive them to a external drive.
By the way, I am assuming that converting RAW files to DNG is a decision you have made and not an accident.

Numbers does not open with the main user after installing mountain lion. It works flawlessly when I use the second account on my mac. What got corrupted in the admin-account, something in the user-library? How can I fix it? I´m kinda desperate... (the same happens with the other iWork-Apps!)
Looking forward to hearing from somebody with a littlemore expertise than me, Chris

you can remove preferences files by navigating to the Preferences folder for your user as follows:
    0) Quit ALL iWork apps (Keynote, Pages and Numbers)
    1) from the Finder select the menu item "Go > Go To Folder…".  This will bring up a dialog:
    2) enter the path "~/Library/Preferences" (no double quotes)
    3) find the files:
    com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
and move these to the trash.  I would NOT empty until later.
    4) restart Numbers

  • HT201272 Having a bad day my iTunes library got corrupted and my back up disk has failed how can I restore my purchases from the iTunes store

Having a bad day my iTunes library got corrupted and my back up disk has failed how can I restore my purchases from the iTunes store? When I try it tells me the pruchases have already been downloaded to this computer.

Does your purchased rmusic appears under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) ? If they do and you don't have the cloud symbol against them so as to re-download them, then do you still have the entries for them in your library i.e. where you would normally click on them to play them ? If you do then try deleting them from there (iTunes will be seeing them and assuming that you still have them somewhere) and they should then get the cloud symbol for re-downloading in the Purchased link.
If you aren't in a country where music can be re-downloaded then you could try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page,

  • I was told at the apple store to open a new I-Tunes library and transfer the music from the old library to the new.  He thinks there is a problem with the old library as it keeps corrupting the i-pod.  Any ideas on how???

Was told by the person at the APple store today to open new library on I-tunes - he felt the current library has something wrong and that opening a new library and transferring the music to there would perhaps prevent the ipod from becoming corrupt.   Any ideas how to do this???

Need more info, if you want better response.
What do you mean by corrupting the iPod?
What is wrong with your iPod?
Which version of iTunes are you using?
What is the iPod software  version as shown in the iTunes summary page?
    Have a nice day!

Yes. Find the LR catalog file by looking in Edit/Catalog Settings/General. Close LR and navigate to that spot. The catalog file is the one that ends in .lrcat - move it to wherever you want. Next to the .lrcat file is a subfolder called Previews.lrdata. You can move that over as well, but if you don't LR will generate new previews. Double-click on the .lrcat file in its new home and LR will open with that catalog. Set Preferences to When Starting Up Use Most Recent Catalog.

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now?

  • Lightroom cannot identify my photo data in the iPhoto Library

I am the new user of Lightroom 4, after installing the program I then tried to import (add) pictures from my iPhoto Library to the Lightroom, the iPhoto Library folder did not show on the source column. My iPhoto Library is under the Pictures folder and which is under the User folder on my Apple's hard drive, both User and Pictures phoders did appear on the saurce column except for iPhoto Library. What should I do to allow Lightroom to identidy the iPhoto Library so that I can import the data to start using the ptogram?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
