The longer I use Safari, more ram/memory it uses

I'm currently using Safari 6.0 on Mountain lion and i'm surprise that it still uses a lot of my ram space over long periods of time, even when I have only 1 tab opened. I have reasonable amount of memory, which is 4 gigs. The only way to reclaim my memory is by closing Safari, but I find it inefficient. Can Safari free space when I close a tab?
I only use 3 plugins:
Lastpass
Evernote Clipper

We can't know. You have neither provided any system info nor other details. That aside, "Not enough RAM" does not refer to your hard drives, but your working memory. To make things even more complicated, it's usually not even actually running out of RAM. Well, whatever. You need to be much more specific.

    iMac 10.1, OS X 10.7.5
4 GB RAM (2 of 4 slots used)
201 GB free on 999.35 GB HD
The iMac gets slower the longer I use the Internet - to the point that it takes several seconds for each typed character to appear.  This is very noticeable with the online browser game Forge of Empires.  But, it happens even if not logged on to that game.
Turning the iMac off and restarting it brings it back to what seems like full speed for an hour or so.  Then, it starts to noticeably slow down again.

1st thing : from my point of view upgrade your mac os to latest version.
(their is mac os x mavericks from apple its free for upgrade so download it and install it.)
2nd thing : then upgrade your all browser plugins to latest version.
3rd thing : and use ccleaner to keep clean your mac from junk data or other unuseable data that are created.
4th thing : verify and repair your disk permissions with the use of disk utility or ccleaner
i am sure your computer recover speed.

  • My Macbook Pro gets slow the longer I use it?!

Hi everyone, recently my MacBook Pro 2011 has been very slow. It started acting up about a week ago after I left my laptop on stand by mode for a while and when I returned to using it, the laptop was really slow, significantly slower compared to before. I restarted it and everything seemed fine but after using it for about 20 to 30 mins it starts to get slow again... As the result, I have to restart my laptop every 30 mins or so if I want to use it smoothly, but really... its very annoying having to restart it all the time. The symptoms are lag, slow application launch, applications not responding and A LOT of rainbow wheel...
I have verified and repaired the permission and the drive in the Disk Utility but the problem persists. Does anyone have a solution for this problem? Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

    Here it is:

  • How do I get my iTunes (both purchased and cd's) into the cloud as I cannot use match my iMac and MacBook are too old to use the right OS and maxed out RAM memory upgrades, but have iPhone 4S and now 64gb iPad and libraries on desktops plus iPod!!

So very excited bought iPad and new speakers today! Want to get all my music sorted as across iMac (G5), MacBook os 10.6 (maxed out ram and memory) and old iPod. Saw Match would be an option but can't use due to old OS so I can get the raw music library files but then what do I do to get all in one place? Any help appreciated.

A good route would be to attach a USB drive to the macbook.  You can use the drive to assemble a copy of all of your music from your various devices.  iTunes on the macbook can be used to create a new library, located on the USB drive, into which you can import all of your music.
    Two major benefits:
    1.  From here you can run iTunes Match across your entire music collection; and
    2.  You will have created a full local backup of all of your music on the USB drive.
Once complete you will be able to access the music from any iDevice capable of running iTunes Match,  Do remember as you add music it is important to maintain a local backup in order to keep your music safe.

  • The longer I use it the slower it gets

This is one top quality browser it seems to be getting choked with only 2x tabs open. How can I speed thing's up as safarispeed plug in is installed and whats happening to it?
    Help would be appreciated
    Nb

Restarting Safari is not the only way to clear up it's memory usage. You can also clear the cache by clicking on 'Safari', then scrolling down to 'Empty Cache...' This comes in real handy at times. Also, to speed up Safari a bit in general, it really helps to minimize how many items are in your Bookmarks Bar, and to organize all of your favorites into folders as well.
Oh, and another thing... clearing your 'other forms' in the Autofill. All of this information takes up ample space and memory over time.
    I hope this helps.

  • Is there anyway to monitor the speed of my peripherals (thunderbolt), RAM memory usage, or processor activity??

My Lacie Thunderbolt HDD seems to respond slowly, slower than my Firewire 800 Lacie. Just wondering if I can see transfer speeds in real time. Also be nice to see how much of my memory I'm using and processor.

ah, yes.... well, now I feel a little bit stupid. this is what I was looking for, didn't know if Mac had one, never wanted all this info before.
I also found a dashboard widget called iStat Pro downloadable from the apple website.
    cheers

Hi there i was just wandering what Ram i should use on a a6020a HP pavillion thx

I split your message from the original (dated Nov 2011 and with a Solution flag). Is is better served as new.
If your computer is the HP Pavillion a6020a (AU NZ) then it's limit is two 1GB simms. See here

  • Slow running - more ram the answer?

I've had my intel imac for about 8 months now and I hate to say it but it was a mistake. A prior PC user, I just don't use the computer enough or have enough teech knowledge to make the most of the mac facilities - or rather to spend all the time necessary to get around a Windows dominated world. It wouldnt be so bad if the actual mac-based products were compatible with intel imac!
Anyway my main complaint is that the the thing is just slower. Especially if I have an application running - such as word - I see far to much of the beach ball.
Will more RAM solve this problem (I have 512)? And is RAM a lot cheaper in the US than the UK?
intel imac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

were the earlier models inferior in some way?
    steinzeug,
No, I haven't seen that. Are you sure that they're both fully seated? When installing a second module, the locking arms/ejector mechanism must be used to loosen the first module so that it can be reseated when the new module is installed, then after both are perfectly seated, the mechanism can be used to lock them in place. It won't usually work well to try and use it to force the RAM into a seated position. The RAM is either fully seated or not before the locking mechanism gets used. This isn't a 100 percent for sure situation, just best procedure based on the reports of many users that came here this year.
    edit-
I hope you're not judging speed based on Safari, as I've actually removed a RAM stick and sworn Safari sped up. While I use no other browser, there are many others who advise trying another.

  • I have 1 GB RAM on an '07 MacBook Pro. 1) How do I check remaining memory? 2) I have Microsoft office 2004 - do I need to buy more RAM to upgrade to '11? 3) I need a new battery ... Is it worth the $$ to buy a new battery, RAM and Microsoft office 2011?

I have a MacBook Pro from '07 with 1 GB of memory. The battery is shot and my AppleCare has run out. I just upgraded the OS to 10.6.8. But a few questions:
1 - How do I even check how much memory I have left on this computer?
2 - How do I check how many battery cycles are left?
3 - I want to upgrade to Microsoft Office '11 because I don't have Adobe Acrobat to creat pdf's and I need to be able to do this for school... Instead of buying acrobat, I figured I would just upgrade to Office '11 because I can generate pdf's from Word. Roughly how much RAM does Office '11 take up?
4 - Does Apple still make batteries for this computer (from '07)? How much do they cost?
5 - How much does 1 more GB of memory cost?
AND lastly -- is it even worth it to spend the $ on more RAM, a new battery and Office '11?
Or does it make more sense to just get a new computer entirely? (trying to avoid this).
ANY help would be sooo appreciated! Thanks.

1 - How do I even check how much memory I have left on this computer?
If you're asking how to check to see if you need more RAM, open Activity Monitor and go to the System Memory tab, then compare page outs and page ins.  If page outs is 10% or more of page ins, you probably need more RAM.
2 - How do I check how many battery cycles are left?
There's no limit on the number of battery cycles, it's just that the more cycles you've used the more "worn out" your battery gets.  You've got a 4-year-old machine, and if it's still got the original battery, it's probably about time for a replacement battery.  You can check battery health using System Profiler...  look at the Power section under Hardware.
3 - I want to upgrade to Microsoft Office '11 because I don't have Adobe Acrobat to creat pdf's and I need to be able to do this for school... Instead of buying acrobat, I figured I would just upgrade to Office '11
You don't need Office 2011 to create PDFs.  Any application capable of printing can create PDFs on a Mac.  Just choose File -> Print, but instead of clicking the Print button in the print dialog, click the PDF button and choose Save As PDF in the menu that appears.
4 - Does Apple still make batteries for this computer (from '07)? How much do they cost?
5 - How much does 1 more GB of memory cost?
I'll "ditto" sig's answers to these.
AND lastly -- is it even worth it to spend the $ on more RAM, a new battery and Office '11?
Or does it make more sense to just get a new computer entirely? (trying to avoid this).
If Office 2004 is still working fine for you, stick with that and don't incur the costs of Office 2011.  As to the RAM, only add more if the test I mentioned above indicates that you need it.  If you buy more RAM when you don't really need it, you won't see much (if any) performance improvement.  That just leaves the battery...  and if the machine is still doing what you need it to do and you don't really need a new machine for anything, you could definitely buy a new battery and get a few more years out of it.

  • MacPro with10.7.3. running a Python script in terminal I see a : "There is no more application memory available on your startup disk". Python uses 10G of 16G RAM and  VM =238G with 1TB free. Log: macx-swapon FAILED - 12. It only happens with larger inputs

On my MacPro with10.7.3. while running a Python script in terminal, after a while, in several hours actually,  I see a system message for the Terminal app: "There is no more application memory available on your startup disk". Both RAM and VM appear to be fine at this point, i.e. Python uses only 10G of 16G RAM and  VM =238G with ~1TB free. Log reads: " macx-swapon FAILED - 12" multiple times. Furthermore, other terminal windows can be opened and commands run there. It only happens with larger inputs (text files), but with inputs that are about half the size everything runs smoothly.  So the issue must be the memory indeed, but where to look for the problem/fix?

    http://liulab.dfci.harvard.edu/MACS/README.html
    Have you tried with the --diag flag for diagnostics? Or changing verbose to 3 to show debug messages? Clearly one of three things is happening;
    1. You ARE running out of disk space, but once it errors out the space is reclaimed if the output file is deleted on error. When it fails, does your output have the content generated up to the point of termination?
    2. The application (Terminal) is allocated memory that you are exceeding
    3. The task within Terminal is allocated memory that you are exceeding
I don't know anything about what this does but is there a way to maybe run a smaller test run of it? Something that takes 10 minutes? Just to see if it works.

  • MBP Memory Upgrade Using More RAM than Before

    Hey,
    I have a 13-inch, late 2011 Macbook Pro with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor. I recently changed my 4GB memory (2 modules) PC3-10600 DDR3 1333 MHz to a Crucial 16GB PC3-10600 DDR3 1333 MHz.
Before the upgrade, the activity monitor would show memory used at around 3.98GB or so, and I was running only chrome with a few tabs open. Using chrome and a few more apps would slow down the computer significantly, though still usable.
After the upgrade, the activity monitor shows memory used at around 6.5GB with the same apps running (just chrome). My computer does run a faster and can handle a lot more apps.
My question is, why is my Macbook using more RAM after the upgrade?
    Thanks,
    Sebs

The short answer is that memory unused is memory wasted.
Mavericks is designed to decrease reliance upon mass storage, which is orders of magnitude slower than RAM. Mavericks will use all the memory available to it before resorting to using the swapfile. You are likely to find "swap used" to be zero, even with Google Chrome's notoriously profligate use of system resources.

  • HT1461 How can you make more 'Ram' available using bootcamp, on the windows side of things??

Hey, i recently bought an iMac 20.5' (i5) and it came with 4gb Ram
I am a music producer but the program i use is windows based, so i got bootcamp, all that works fine
but ive been working on a new song for a while now and the prgoram has an 'indicator' showing how much CPU usage % and ram is being used.
it is now at 1956mb! which should efffect because i have 4gb! right!??.. no it says (in windows sytem) 2.3gb (available)....
So i went out and bought an extra 4gb, followed the instructions and Ram went int easy!!. I log onto Mac and yep 8 GB Of RAM!!
so then i log into windows (through bootcamp ofcourse) and still 2.3 gb available....
anyone know if i can make more avaible?? or do i have to reinstall windows through bootcamp???
    Thankyou
    P.S. 32 but windows 7 is what i use

Windows installed using Boot Camp uses all your comptrer's resources.
Windows 7 32 bit can only use about 3 GB of RAM. The limitation is that 32 bits can not address more than this. If you want to address and use more RAM then you need Windows 64 bit.

  • Why does both the firefox and the plug-in use over 1gb ram of my computer memory? It is making the whole computer extremly slow and you should do something about it, or make it possible to download FireFox 3,6

FireFox 3,6 was only using 400mb or so. When I got FireFox 4 it all have been much more than that, almost everytime I use firefox. The plugin is using more than it should, no matter how few tabs I have open it still will not make the number go any lower. I can almost not use my computer because of this.

Don't know if it is your problem, but your Adobe Flash plug-in at 10.2.159.* is not up to date. You current one today is 10.3.181.22 for Firefox users. And not being up-to-date with Flash has a lot of problems.
