- Try another charging source
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

If iTunes can't see the iPod then uor only hope if to contact a data recovery company for getting data off the iPod. Yes, first try deleing both songs.
If still problem
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

Yes, both scratch just as easily. Buy one, and buy a case. DONT use it untill you have the case, mine was "scuffed up" after only 2 days of use. Keep it in the wrapper and keep the little plastic 'film' that covers the front, leave that on as well. Then put all of that in a case (marware.com , buy a sport case for like $10) and if you do that it should be bullet proof. It even absorbes shocks, so you can drop it a lot.

I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation. I see you are having problems with your Ipod/Ipad/Iphone, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.
Hard Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds or until Apple logo appears
Make sure you have Itunes downloaded
Make sure Itunes is the latest version
