The mac os x installation couldn't be completed

Hi guys,
I replace my HD in my new laptop. everything is perfect until I'm trying to install the osx with the grey dvd that came with the machine. 15 min more or less after the installation started an error message appear: the mac os x installation couldn't be completed.
With a crash log window. It does not give more instruction. I try this 3 times and it always does the same error. I'm suspecting maybe it's the dvd but I'm not sure.
I did an extensive hardware test and one error showed up :
4MEM/63/4000000: 0x86298098
That's it. Nothing more.
I look online but found nothing.
I tried to verify the disk with the disk utilities everything on this side is good.
So now I don't really know where to look.
Any suggestion?
THanks!

The OWC RAM may be bad, and if it is, yes, it's the cause of your installation problem. Or you may not have gotten it firmly seated in its slots, which could very easily have the same effect. You didn't mention that the RAM was also new in your first post, and that fact makes it more likely that the seating of the RAM is where the problem lies. Remove it and reinsert it very firmly, then run the Hardware Test again. If it still returns the MEM error, call OWC and arrange to exchange the RAM. OWC is very good about that.
Out of curiosity, is this "NuRAM" or OWC's "house brand" RAM?
If you were to take the machine in for repair with third-party RAM installed and an error message indicating a RAM problem, Apple would almost certainly blame the RAM, remove and discard it, and return the machine to you with the same amount of RAM that was installed at the factory. You don't want that. Send it in with its original RAM if you send it in at all. I don't think it will come to that, though — my bet is that by reseating the RAM you'll resolve the problem.
As for the hard drive, there's always a chance that the drive in a machine under repair by Apple will be erased and have a new OS installed on it for "clean" testing purposes. You certainly won't want to expose whatever you've just installed on your new one to that risk.

  • Help! I'm stuck in the Mac OS X Installer

I’m trying to restore my Mac mini back to its factory settings, but whenever I restart from the installation disk, a dialog pops up (after choosing a language) that says “Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer.”
Then, after reading a few discussions and thinking this was what I was supposed to do, I went to Disk Utility and erased/reformatted the hard drive [as Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) with 1 partition using the Apple Partition Map]. Now the hard drive is not showing up in the Startup Disk. The only two options that show up in the Startup Disk are the Mac OS X installation disc [which brings me to the dialog box that says it can’t be installed] and Network Startup.
    Any ideas??

Apple Partion map is the format for the older PPC mac;s...you need to format it for the intel version...It should be defaulting to GUID...leave it there.

    Modified Paths:
    flex/sdk/trunk/in/player/10/mac/Install Flash Player 10 UB.dmg

Hi, I appreciate your comments. Since I don't use Mac it's not as easy for me to know exactly where Flash Player files are, etc. as I do with the PC.
There is also a difference of opinion among Mac users regarding the need to Uninstall the current version of Flash Player before Installing the new version. The instructions from Adobe are to use the Uninstaller first. Any update of Flash Player is a new version, not an addon to the current version.
The Uninstaller from my understanding is also changed when a new Flash Player version is released. I don't know if you Uninstalled the 10.1 prior to trying to Install the 10.2, but this may have had something to do with the problem. Then also, the Shockwave Flash plugin for Safari may have been disabled.
Several things to check when a new Flash Player is released.
    Thanks,

  • Installation couldn't be completed

I have a Mac Pro with Yosemite on it.  I have been in the process of moving my data and applications over from an older Mac Pro, when the newer one would no longer boot from the boot drive.  Part of my moving from one machine to the next, I moved the extra hard drives over, except I also moved over the boot drive from the older machine.  At that point, the newer machine would not boot (I did take out the extra boot drive once I realized what had happened).  The boot process kept asking me to unlock my (correct) boot drive and restart ... repeat.  Another option I was given was to reinstall the OS.  The newer machine has 10.10.1 installed on it, but the installer wanted to put Mavericks on it.  Out of desperation, I give it a try - this did not work either.
Eventually, I tried to 1394 connect a machine with the Yosemite installer, but that drive did not have the necessary boot SW to boot the machine.
I than remembered an old command-option for resetting pram (command-option-P-R).  This worked.
However, now the machine thinks I should be running the Mavericks installer and I get the console log and the dialog "The OS X installation couldn't be completed".
How do I stop the install and just finish the boot process back to my machine?

option boot, just shows me the boot drive and a time machine drive from my old machine.  No restore partition is shown.  Disk Utilities shows disk4 "OS C Base System", but I am not able to boot from it. The permissions buttons are not enabled for any of the drives.
This OS Utilities app that comes up is the one that originally came up and offered to reinstall Mavericks on top of Yosemite.
What I most want to do at this point is to stop the reinstall of Mavericks.

  • OS X Installation Couldn't be Completed

I just returned from vacation to find my 15" macbook pro retina dead.  While on vacation, I locked it using find my iphone and I have that code.  When I boot it says "OS X installation couldn't be completed" but this message disappears so quickly that I cannot click on the log.  I am able to get into the Windows installation (setup using the standard options for boot camp).
I tried booting from an external recovery disk, but it gives the same error and disappears quickly.  The unit is 10 days out of warranty :-(
    Options?

I had the exact same trouble- Dual booted Win8 and OSX Mavericks which was locked via iCloud (15" MacBook Pro Retina)- I tried holding Command-Option-R directly after startup and it seems to be working fine. Thanks for taking the time to answer this question AmazinglySmooth!
On a complete side note- Activation Lock needs to have a workaround for those of us who aren't thieves and trying to use a device for Apple Dev purposes. I was given a locked iPhone recently from a friend who owns the phone but doesn't have access to the iCloud login info, the phone serves no purpose bar an expensive paperweight. It's not fun when my personal device works like an Android because I am developing for Apple (especially early beta)- throw me a bone and provide me a workaround for the iPhone 5s activation locked paperweight.
    Cheers.

  • Can I use a 2009 13-inch MacBook Mac OS X Installation Disc to Repair the Disc in my 2006 13-inch MacBook?

I have a 13-inch MacBook (Model No. A1181) that was purchased in the summer of 2006 with Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) on it. I have been trying to clean up this MacBook in an effort to get it to run more efficiently. First, I Verified and Repaired Disk Permissions using Disk Utility. That completed successfully.
Second, I tried to Verify Disk using Disk Utility. This process stopped before completion with an error. The error reads,
Disk Utility stopped verifying "Macintosh HD"
This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), an then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
I do not have the installation discs/DVDs that came with this MacBook (2006) anymore. However, my mom has the installation discs that came with her 13-inch MacBook, purchased 12/2009. Can I use the Mac OS X installation disc (10.6) that came with her MacBook (2009) in my earlier model MacBook (2006) to repair the disk (Macintosh HD)?
    Are there any other solutions?
    Thank you,
    Colin

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
You need the discs that came with the MacBook.
For further information, you may want to post in the _MacBook Forum_.
You have posted in an iBook Forum.

  • Something happened and your installation of Windows 8.1 couldn't be completed

I have a brand new Acer with Win 8 installed. I've removed McAfee. Other than that the machine is as delivered.
Trying to download 8.1 and install it from the store. It sits there for a couple of minutes then says:
Your Windows 8.1 installation couldn't be completed
Something happened and the installation of Windows 8.1 can't be completed.
Now apart from this being really annoying could anyone have come up with a less useful message?
I have tried it several times. I've run the compatibility util and it passes. I've tried the store without logging in, then tried the store with logging in.
I've tried it in Firefox, tried it in IE.
    Same result every time.

OK, so I posted 2 days ago about this issue, and I resolved it yesterday.  I essentially performed a "refresh" under Windows 8, which removed a lot of the updates and applications that could be potential issues.
I then had to go to the Sony website to re-install the latest drivers, SW and driver patches related to my Vaio Duo (I had already updated the firmware and Bios -- necessary to install Windows 8.1--).  I then had to re-install all Windows 8 updates,
and magically, the Windows 8.1 update started to download when I clicked on it in the Windows Marketplace.  I do not know what was the source of the problem, but the refresh definitely got rid of it.  It is a long process however as a lot has to
be reinstalled to bring the refreshed system to its full functionality with the latest manufacturer and Microsoft updates for Windows 8.
I can't see how a non-technical user could perform all these steps to upgrade a recent tablet to Windows 8.1!
    Good luck!

  • Start computer with Mac OS x installation disk.

Will starting my iMac with the Mac OS x installation disc erase all of my information stored on my computer, such as documents, iTunes and etc?  I am getting an message that states I have a corrupt file.  This is occurring when I click on "Utilities" then "Disk Utility then verify the disk.  Any comments and expertise would be greatly appreciated.

It should NOT erase anything unless you explicitly erase the drive, in fact it may prevent loses.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • "Purchase couldn't be completed" on Windows RT 8.1 tablet. Error 0x80240017

I'm trying to get Revel installed on a Nokia Lumia 2520 (Windows RT 8.1 tablet), and it keeps throwing the error message "Your purchase couldn't be completed: Something happened and your purchase can't be completed. Error code 0x80240017."
The tablet is fully updated as of 11/28. I checked UAC and that's turned on, as well as automatic updates, and I even wiped the device out and reloaded everything. No dice.
Also checked, and KB2887595 is installed, so it's not that...
    Any ideas?

Revel is supported on windows 8 tablets and compuers, but is not currently supported on Windows RT.

  • Microsoft office cannot install - The operation couldn't be completed (com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1)

    Hi there,
Recently my hard drive crashed and so I bought a new SSD and performed a clean install of Lion on it. I tried to install Microsoft office, but when I try to open the .mpkg installed it says:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1.)
    Couldn't open "Office Installer.mpkg".
Any ideas? It worked perfectly fine previously, and I had used the same installation.
    My specs are below:
    MacBook Pro
    17-inch, Early 2011
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
    Thanks!

What's the source of the mpkg? Is this for Office 2011?
I'd reccomend downloading from MS here:
    https://www1.downloadoffice2010.microsoft.com/macdl/registerkey.aspx?ref=macdl&c ulture=en-US
Using the key on the CD you have.
PS- Yes i know the site says 2010, but I assure you the mac download is for office 2011. Then do your updates. I think it's on SP3 by now
