The .Mac sound files: Can I put them on a web page?
Well, now that I have all those sounds files (Thank you, Diane Cayton!), I would like to put them onto some iWeb pages for atmosphere. I refer to the sound files of the squeaky door, the horse whinny, the typewriter clicking etc).
1) Would I have to convert the sound files the same way that I did for my .mp3 music files? (From .mp3 files to .mov files)
2) Would they be edited in the same way as the other sound files that I got from Michael Wong's website? (height 16px, controller False, Loop True, and Automatic Start True) If so, then I assume that they would be treated the same way in MassMoveIt as the other .mov files.
Thank you -----

My new reason for uploading photos to a photo sharing site is: backup security for my photos, and simply an alternate way to show photos/slideshows/videos.
I liked the LOOK of Picasa a lot, but then I discovered that Picasa system requirements are PC; I didn't see Mac anywhere. I sent an email and the response was to send me to a page where I surmised the above. They do not say, "We don't work with Macs." They only list PC jargon in system requirements.
Another photo sharing site I found: Dropshots, where you can upload your VIDEOS. They play all kinds of video formats. I am considering uploading my videos to Dropshots or some such site and then putting hyperlinks onto a "Movie" page template in iWeb. That way ALL of my friends can see my videos, not just those who have QuickTime. I did an informal survey among people in my email group, and enough of them said that they don't have QuickTime to make me think twice.
There is another site which has My Space in the title, and it mentions slide show creations.
WHAT I MIGHT DO TO DECIDE WHICH ONE I LIKE:
I will choose a folder of photos (probably Nancy's African Safari) and join those sites, which are free. See how difficult or easy each site makes it for me to upload photos. See what options are offered for formatting and making the page look good. See what the final outcome is. How good do the photos look? I am old, those photo sites make the photos look better than iWeb slideshows do. Then after researching it to death and beyond, I will choose the site that satisfies my requirements.
I am going to a funeral today; yet another light in the universe has blinked out forever. I know that it is balanced out by some baby being born somewhere, but theoretical and philosophical constructs are no solace for personal loss.

my 160gb ipod just deleted its whole contents and keeps error-ing when i try to upload more songs to it! is there some way i can get them back, i dont have 2/3 of them stored as backup! hellpppppp!?!
You may not have a backup of those files, then. Have you checked for backup according to this knowledge base article:

I keep getting the same recovered files in the trash. How do I put them back to their original place so that they do not keep being recovered very time I open my Mac?
The recovered files are temporary files used by Mac OS X applications. Usually temporary files are deleted by an application when it no longer needs them. If an application quits unexpectedly, the temporary files may not be deleted by the application. When you restart your computer, Mac OS X moves these temporary files to the Trash.
You can retrieve useful files by dragging them out of the Trash. In most cases, however, the temporary files are not important and it is safe to empty your Trash. Check with the manufacturer of the application if you are not sure. -
Since I have the newest version of itunes, I can't back up like normally. The only way is to considilate files and then put them on an external drive which I don't have. Are there any other options? If I can't back up to a disc like I used to, can I instead just keep everything on my ipod and then if I have to get a new computer or something just download all my songs from the ipod to my new computer's itunes? Will that work? Will I still be able to keep all my songs that way?
I'm going to assume the consolidating files does not work due to hard drive space limitations.
Since you're moving to Windows 7, have you tried using the Windows files and settings transfer utility? That will move everything for you to the same location on the new computer, it also allows some control over what actually gets moved.
Alternatively, if you know the location of all of the media, it can be manually moved by copying it from the old computer to the new computer in the same location.
Also, using the Apple article on moving the library, take a slight twist on what it says. Move the iTunes library to the external drive, update the settings in iTunes to reflect the library being on the external drive, then consolodate it.
The options are endless for moving the library... it simply takes a little effort to make it happen and possibly a twist on existing "standard" methods depending on your unique situation. -
i'm getting a 9041 error when trying to convert files to AAC -- any ideas on how to fix it? the files files in iTunes show up as Apple Lossless but i can't put them on my iPod
"I have been able to convert to AAC by first converting to AIFF and then to AAC. This is a pan though."
this worked for me.
thanks. -
i have some stuff i want to put on external hard drive when i drag the file or files it just puts them back
Did you format the external disk on Windows? If you did this, probably the external disk is formatted in NTFS. OS X can't write on this format, so it's normal that it doesn't allow you to copy the files.
In this case, you have three possibilities:
1. Install Paragon NTFS. This program allows you to write on NTFS partitions.
2. Copy the hard drive content to your internal disk and format the external disk with Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Do it only if you are going to use the external disk only with OS X.
3. The same as the last one but formatting it with exFAT. This filesystem is compatible with Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8) and OS X (10.6.5 and newer), so you can write and read files on external disks formatted with it on Windows and OS X, but you may have problems on Linux -
I have about 130 gigs of movies on my iTunes and was wondering if I can just put them on my backup hard drive and remove them from my main computer to free up the space.
I haven't done this with an external drive, but I would imagine it works the same way as if you have multiple internal drives. Also hopefully it works with less headache in OSX than in windows.
Anyway, move all your music over to your external, and then go into itunes -> preferences -> advanced -> iTunes media folder location. Navigate to your drive, and pick the folder you want. Ensure that your folders are set up like they are in your ~/Music/iTunes folder, or wherever your iTunes is currently pointing. Then quit and restart itunes. If your music doesn't show up, try dragging your music folder from your external onto itunes, and it will hopefully update your library.xml.
As far as Jerry's problem goes, you could try adding another music folder to your library.xml, but I really have no idea whether this will work or not. If you want to give it a try (can't promise you won't corrupt your library.xml, so make a copy beforehand) you can find the music folder xml element right near the top of the xml file (open it with textedit/textmate/whatever text editor you want (NOT WORD)). Curious to know if this works, and if it doesn't I have other ideas so let me know. -
I used a usb turntable to import old vinyl records into iTunes. Then with the cloud and iTunes match I put them on another Mac. The songs come up in the music list but they are greyed out. How do I get them recognized. The symbol states the songs were downloaded from iCloud. I would like to get them to play so that I can make a playlist, and burn a CD.
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device. -
So i bought music on a different computer but oAn the same itunes account and on the same ipod and when i get on my original computer and i sync my ipod my purchases that were on the other computer didnt show up. How can i put them on my computer/ipod
Download them to the computer to which the iPod is synced, re-sync.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies currently available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later. Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid. Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases. -

I just downloaded the new iOS 5.0 and did all of the backup prompted steps beforehand, but I can't figure out how to get all of my apps and music back on my iPhone. Where did they go and how can I put them back on my iPhone?
Hi, Abril_Perez17.
This may be related to a new feature embedded in iOS7 that shows all purchased music by default. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music. See if the issue ceases once the feature has been disabled. This information is located on page 63 of the user guide below.

I have photos on my iphone 4 that i'm trying to transfer to iphoto. The problem is when I plug the phone in, it only wants to transfer the new photos, not all. How can I take all the photos off my phone and put them into iphoto? Even if there are duplicates, I'd like to make sure I get all the photos from my phone into iphoto. Thanks
To see all the photos on the phone, including photos that have already been imported into iPhoto, deselect the "Hide Photos Already Imported" checkbox. If the camera contains photos that have already been imported into iPhoto, those photos are hidden by default.

The blue circles next to the mivies do not apear anymore since last update , can i put them back to see wich movies un-watched.
That happened because you synce'd your phone to a new computer, the phone can only be synce'd with one library. You can get all your songs back if they were puchased in itunes. Go to purchased in itunes store and download is at the bottom of the page.

I downloaded my photos on my laptop so I have them, I need to delete some of my photos for storage on my iPhone 4. If I want some of the photos that I have on my laptop, can I put them back onto my iPhone later on?
Yes you can.
(but if you do, also keep a copy on your computer)
One way is via iTunes: iTunes: Syncing photos - Apple Support
Another way is via a 3rd party app such as http://www.photosync-app.com
Or via Photo Stream My Photo Stream FAQ - Apple Support
or iCloud Photos: https://www.apple.com/icloud/photos/
