The Mac wakes up alone

I have a Mac Mini 2010. Often leave the Mac to sleep ... I give the mouse on "Standby" from the menu of the block.
And hours later I find ... perhaps activated by moving the mouse somewhat longer active.
http://www.faq-mac.com/tutoriales/tu-reposo-tu-mac-nivel-senshei/46396
The keyboard, mouse and other input devices can affect sleep mode
Press the keyboard and click the mouse button you can activate a computer that is in sleep mode. Mouse movement only activates a screen that is in sleep mode. Although the Mac is in sleep mode, stay tuned for keystrokes and mouse clicks.
Then it is activated by moving the ratón..o to click? or the keyboard key?
One could disable it by moving the mouse does not re-activated?

OHC2, 1 The cause seems...
OHC: stands for Open Host Controller, USB or Firewire is usually we. If you see OHC1 or OHC2 Almost Certainly it is an external USB keyboard or mouse That has woken up the machine.
I'll try to get the keyboard to see if he wakes up.

  • When the mac wakes from sleep, the wireless icon disappears

Hi All, I have a third party wireless PCI card in the PowerMac G4 MDD which works fantastically. The only issue I have is when the machine wakes from sleep, the wireless icon disappears from the top menu and the machine freezes and I have to force shut down.....
    Any ideas?
    I am running 10.5.8....

    Hi, Garry -
It seems some PCI cards don't handle sleep well; sometimes they exhibit behavior such as you've noted, sometimes they just prevent the machine from entering sleep.
In many cases the solution can be to sleep only the monitor; in the Sleep prefs pane, set the sliders for System and Hard Drive to "never", and the one for the monitor to your choice of delay. This arrangement also means waking from sleep is faster.

    Hi all,
I'm looking for a utility or a script which allows to quit a running app/file (say word, running a doc) before the Mac goes to a set SLEEP MODE, and also need that same app/file to start 5-10 seconds right after the Mac wakes from the sleep mode setting.

  • Indesign CS6 crashes when MAC wakes up

    Hi
I'm having a problem with at MAC wih OSX 10.8, InDesign always crashes when the MAC "wakes up". Everything is fine before the MAC goes to standby (lunch break) but afterwards - no chance.
I've updated the OS to now 10.8, updated all Adobe programmes, still no help though.
Any ideas what we could try?

Yeah, but that's not really a solution is it...
Anyway, if anyone else has the problem, it can be solved by deactivating the energy option of sending the HDD to standby.

  • Apple TV Syncs Content from Mac, but cannot access it when the Mac is off

I scanned the forums for a few hours and didn't see any answers to this question, so here it is.
I sync'd the movies and pictures on my MacBook Pro to the the Apple TV; however, when the Mac sleeps, I cannot play or view the content on Apple TV until the Mac wakes up and reconnects to the network.
When I go into iTunes and select the Apple TV, the content clearly shows up (15 GB+). I view Activity Monitor while movies play, and it appears to be playing the locally sync'd content because network utilization is almost zero. But, it insists on my MacBook being up with iTunes running.
    Has anyone else seen this?
    Thanks for any ideas.
    Ben
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    OK,
Forget about iTunes, I am talking about the actual Apple TV itself.
On the TV screen in the main ATV menu you will see a list - Movies/TV Shows/ Music.....ending with Sources.
At the very top of this list you will either see a large ATV logo, or you will see the name of your iTunes library.
If you see your iTunes library name - the reason you can't access anything when your computer is asleep is because this source is for streaming from your computer only. Scroll down to where it says Sources, select it and in the next menu you will see the ATV logo at the very top of the list - select it and you can now play the content that is stored on your ATV.
    Good luck!

  • Mac wakes itself up from sleep. Help me out please!

I'm a pretty experienced user, but I can't figure out for the life of me why this is happening. I run my mbp in clamshell mode connected to an external monitor, and every night I sleep it. I've had no problems with this setup for the last two years. However, in the last few weeks, every time I sleep my mac, it will wake up by itself again after about 10 minutes of sleeping. If I try to make it sleep again after the first time it wakes up by itself, it stays asleep for the rest of the night until I wake it up again in the morning. Totally strange. I've restarted, repaired permissions, etc, but it still does it. I don't think I've installed any new software that would cause this to happen. I think I just installed 1password recently and that's it. Also, to make sure it wasn't network or bluetooth activity doing this, I disabled "wake for network actiivity" in energy saver and I disabled my bluetooth. But, it still does it. Could it be a peripheral that's doing this? I haven't added any recently. I'm trying to figure out if the console log can help me, but I don't see anything that indicated what made the mac wake from sleep by itself. Below I've pasted the log for when the time just before I slept the mac and the time after it woke itself up last night. Maybe one of you can tell what app/process is doing this. Or maybe you can direct me to another system log that might give me more info?

  • My DVD's Audio is fine on the Mac - but MISSING on stand-alone player

Slightly wrong forum (sorry) but all the experts are here!
Re-hashing my 4:3 DV (PAL) movie for a re-release of the DVD and all's gone extremely well until now.
On my (DVDSP) burned DVD all video is working fine - the audio files are .ac3
No audio in the AUDIO_TS folder on disc - or in the cache (using finder).
    Where did I go wrong?
How can it play perfectly on the Mac (DVD Player) and there be NO AUDIO on the stand-alone?

Talk about a fun Friday, we have HUGE floods here (no - nothing to do with the DVD problem, OR the vacuum cleaner) the UK's had an abnormal amount of rain recently and today's been hideous!
To get back to the topic, as in all pro studios, the DVD player is on the floor - and the carpet was vacuumed yesterday. I notice the player had moved but it didn't dawn on me to check the cables.
Typical of me - assume there's a really serious technical problem first - check the obvious last!

Using Firefox 27 on the Mac. Video on most sites will not now work. I know I am not alone with this problem. What gives?

    Hi KevinMcL,
Thank you for contacting support. I am also using your set up and I experience video issues when I have hardware acceleration turned on.
Other steps you can take to improve your experience:
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Alarm doesn't wake up the Mac

    Hello iCal users!
When I set an event with notification alarm some time before the event, and the Mac is in sleep mode, the alarm does not wake up the mac, therefore I miss the alarm and the whole iCal app becomes useless to me as I often have the Mac in sleep mode while I am working on other things. There must be an option somewhere to make ical able to wake up for an alarm. Does someone know about that?
    Greetings, Thomas

    Austin, and everyone else,
Thanks for all your comments. And yes, I am aware of that preference setting.
I use my PB at my office, home, and on the road. And therefore my PB is turned off quite often. With Entourage, all the alarms that were supposed to go off while the PB was turned off pop up on the screen when the PB is turned on. The major problem I have with iCal is that if my PB happens to be off when the alarm is triggered, I never get that notification! For example, I set an event for the "Big Meeting" on Friday at 9AM. I want the alarm to go off 4 days prior to the meeting so I can prepare for the meeting. If my PB happens to be off at 9AM on Monday, I never get that alarm. With Entourage, the alarm pops up on the screen when the PB is turn on ANYTIME after 9AM Monday. Which means if I turn on my PB at noon on Tuesday, I still get that alarm.

  • Display Turns Black and Won't Wake Up Unless I Power Cycle the Mac mini

Even when I disable all the power settings on my Mac mini, after a day or 2 at max my Mac mini's display will go black and stay that way. Whether I connect to it using VNC Screen Sharing, or connect a monitor directly to it, I can't get the screen back on unless I either power cycle the computer, or otherwise SSH into it via the terminal on my MacBook and force it to log off that way. Any suggestions? Does this sound like a hardware problem, setting, or software problem? I notice that it happens most frequently when the CPU is being worked intensively, like if I'm downloading a lot of files with Vuze or otherwise doing heavy video conversions with iSkysoft iMedia Converter. I heard that maybe the Mac mini is overheating, but it's not stacked and lately I've tried moving it to several different locations but still the problem persists. I also notice that usually when I SSH into it via the terminal while the problems occur that my CPU usage will be way lower than it should be, since it might have happened during the onset of a long/heavy video conversion process. I have a Core 2 Duo, 2.2 GHz Processor with 4 GB of RAM and about 140 GB of available storage. What do you all think I should do?

couple of things you should try:
boot up in _*safe mode*_, the restart normally
try _*resetting the System Management Controller SMC*_
try _*resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM*_
if none of the above makes any difference, run _*Apple Hardware Test*_ from the install DVD that came with your Mac to see if it reports hardware problems.

  • I'm getting really annoyed with the Mac.

Don't mean to offend geniune Mac fans here, but I'm just getting really annoyed with the Mac.
I purchased my Mac mini (late 2012) in May of 2013 - so it's about 4 months old. I don't have a lot of software on it, mainly the Adobe Creative Suite, and development tools (Xcode, and web development software).
The mini has this annoyance where, every so often it just freezes. It usually happens during when the screensaver is running, or when the monitor goes into standby and I try to wake it up. First the screensaver runs for 15 minutes. Sometimes it happens (it's random) that the screensaver "stalls" and the mac freezes. If it "survives" the screensaver, then after 15 minutes my monitor goes into standby mode. Sometimes when I wake up the monitor, I get the login window, I log in, and then I find that the Mac just froze.
A few days ago I've updated to 10.8.5. Now these freezes are happening more often. The mac freezes just whenever, regardless of screensaver or not. There was a time when I had ReadKit running, displaying an article. I went to the kitchen, when I came back the mini was frozen as ice. No other program was running (I mean program that I started).
Other times I had Chrome open at youtube. It was not playing a video. The browser was just "parking" at youtube's home page. Same thing. I go away, come back, the mini was frozen.
Yet just a few days ago, I had no user started application running. None. I leave the mini alone for a short while, come back, and I find the fan was running like crazy. The mac was not hot at all, but the fan went bonkers. It was loud and pumping air out for no reason.
At these times I can't do anything. Sometimes I can move the window, or move icons on the desktop, but I cannot force quit an app, neither I can start one. So things like going to the apps folder and starting terminal or activity monitor is not possible. I cannot select menu items from the Finder (or any other application) menus, so I can't restart or shut down the mac. The only thing I can do at these times is hold the power button for a few seconds to force the mac to shut down.
I'm coming from Windows. I built and upgraded my PC a few times in the past 7-8 years with newer and faster MOBOs, processors, memory, etc. I never had a bad component; I never had a blue screen; I never had my PC hang; I have never encountered any issues that would make my PC hang or froze or otherwise. I never had to troubleshoot software or hardware problems because they were/are just non existent. I'm not trying to start a war here about PCs and Macs. I'm completely natural.
But here I am with this "thing" that supposed to be so great and trouble free. I have already reinstalled the OS once during this 4 month old mac, but now it seems I have to do it again because ever since 10.8.5 things has gotten worse. This is really N-O-T what I expected from a Mac. I am just really annoyed, frustrated and everything else.
I was browsing these support forums and tried/looked at a couple of diagnostic steps, but none helped so far. I will attempt to reinstall the OS A-G-A-I-N over the weekend. If that doesn't help, then I will have to put this junk into the garbage can. (Well, figuratively speaking of course.)
    Mac mini late 2012
    OS X 10.8.5
    i7 2.6 GHz 8G
    Samsung S27B970 display via DisplayPort
    Apple extended wired keyboard
    Logitech LS1 laser mouse
    No other peripherials

Hey thanks for the feedback woodmeister! No, I was not aware of the hardware diagnostics!
So I have eagerly followed the isntructions, but I quickly found out what I have already experienced looking at other Apple "unhelpful" documentation. When I was referring in my OP that I've looked at other resources, the problem was that those "un-support" documents were out of date and the article indicated that Apple has retired them.
Now as far as the link that you sent (and the same can be found in the Help section of OS X as well, wasn't helpful either. Why?
In the document the bullets are as follows:
If you have a new Mac (mid-2013 or later), use Apple Diagnostics, which is built into your Mac.
If your Mac has OS X v10.8.3 or earlier, use Apple Hardware Test, which is built into your Mac.
If you updated your Mac to OS X v10.8.4 or later, use the system software disc or USB flash drive that came with your Mac.
Let's start with bullet #1. As far as I know (and correct me if I'm wrong) but I'm not aware of mid-2013 Mac minis. Mine is late 2012, so I guess I don't fit into bullet #1.
Bullet #2. I have OS X 10.8.5 so it means I don't fit into that bullet either.
Bullet #3. Yes, I did update to 10.8.4 or later (using 10.8.5) but neither a software disc nor a USB flash drive came with the Mac mini late 2012 model.
So what now? Another great "support" document that is confusing and/or not helpful. Nevertheless, I did give it a try. Disconnected my ethernet cable, hold down D, and rebooted. I get a "Choose Network Connection" drop down on the gray screen where I'm supposed to choose a Wi-Fi network. Why? This has not been mentioned in the docs. My Wi-Fi is disabled because I'm connecting through cable.
So I reconnected the cable. As soon as I did that, I got the message that ... let's see... my memory is failing me... the recovery mode or reinstalling the OS will begin... or something along that line. There was NO ANY INDICATION about any hardware test or diagnostics!
See, what I mean about frustration...?
