The many benefits of the iLife 5 Suite are great.

I have read too many threads from those who choose to criticize the limits of the iLife products.
Someone recently complained that iMovie only had three audio tracks.
For at least 98% of the people using the product, this is one more than they would ever use.
Maybe it’s time we all review what the iLife suite of products are and what they offer. For about $50 (free with a new Mac) we get five great pieces of software with wide ranging capabilities.
The iLife suite is intended to be an entry level grouping of products designed to give the majority of individuals the ability to learn and use many different functions and capabilities the MAC computer has to offer.
By chance, and luck on our parts, it happens to be a set of extremely powerful tools approaching the professional level in most cases.
Example: iMovieHD is great for those individuals who want to process videos of family events such as ball games, birthday parties, a day at the beach, etc. It offers more than enough power to perform these many task and very efficiently I might add. I even use it for marketing events for selling land. Yes, it is sufficient for some commercial use.
But it was not designed for creating ‘Speilberg’ movies.
If that need exists then Apple also makes a very nice professional movie making software called Final Cut Pro.
The same goes for iDVD 5 which is tremendous for it’s intended use but can be had in a professional version called DVD Pro.
GarageBand2 has a big brother as well in Soundtrack Pro.
Is iLife perfect? Of course not - what is?
iPhoto, iTunes, iMovieHD, iDVD and Garage Band offer many features that cannot be found on other computers and at a very reasonable price. I will upgrade each time a new iLife suite is offered.
Harold

I have recently used the iLife bundle to process footage on the 3rd birthday party of my friends' son (my first production). I used iMovie to edit the footage, added audio tracks from iTunes, dropped a few photos from iPhoto on the drop zones of iDVD, added a slideshow to the project as well. Boy, my friends were amazed when I played the DVD before them (they were not mac users).
With such limited effort one need to spend on it (time and money), the output iLife gives is, what Jobs likes to say in keynote, phenomenal.

  • How do I transfer the iLife suite to a new (used) macbook

I recently bought a new (but used) macbook pro running mountain lion. I currently own a macbook pro running mountain lion also.  I am having no luck transfering the iLife suite to the new macbook.
    Help is appreciated

Did you buy one of the machines new in the past couple years?  If so you should see the iLife applications in your purchases tab in the Mac App Store.
If not, you should purchase the individual apps in the Mac App Store and then you can install the latest versions on each machine you own.

  • Do refurbished macbook airs come with pages and the rest of the iLife suite as new macbook airs?

Thinking about adding a refurbished MacBook Air to the stable.   Does anyone know if refurbished macbook airs come with pages the rest of the iLife suite the same as new macbook airs?

They may have iLife pre-installed, but not iWork. In any event you are able to get both for free when you buy a new computer. I don't know if this extends to refurbs. Nevertheless, you should be able to get iWork as a new Mavericks user. If you've already gotten them for your other computers, then the re-downloads are free.
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.

  • OS 10.6.7 imac Itunes library can't be seen by imovie, iphoto or idvd though all can see iphotos. Apple tech had me reinstall imovie, iphoto and get the updates again and itunes library still not seen by rest of ilife '11 suite.

I have tried everything I saw in the forums but can't make iLife '11 apps see itunes library.  Apple had me delete existing files for iphoto and imovie including the apps themselves and reinstall from the disks that came with my imac last month.  This did not work.  Itunes Library still not found by any of the iLife apps though they can see iphoto movies and photos.  Is this really the way it is or is there a solution?   I tried to install iLife Support 904 but it wouldn't install past the selection of install location; at that point the install button was grayed out.  Update Software insists all software is up to date.  Please help if you know the answer.

I have the exact same issue.  Apple also directed me to do the same tasks... didn't correct the issue.  We can not be the only ones with this issue.I can't add music from iTunes to any slideshows, iDVD's or anything.  I have rebuilt my itunes Library as directed by Apple... no progress.

  • Ive just got a refurbed macbook I don't seem to have iWeb (i have iPhoto) how do I get the iLife suite?

Where can I get iLife? im really need iWeb and cant find where to download it. its not on the app store? Please help I thought it came as standard on all macs?
Its a Apple refurbished macboook pro, just got it today.

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • HT4718 Will internet recovery reinstall the iLife suite?

Just wondering how I do a clean install of OSX on my Macbook Air, including all the apps that were there originally, such as iLife. This has to be done without creating a new user account on the machine, i.e I don't want to redownload from the MAS, as I've sold the laptop and want to deliver it "factory fresh", without users...

The only way to do a clean install of iLife if you are reformating the Mac is to use an older iLife disk to install it rather than a newer version of iLife from the App Store.  iLife is Not contained in the Recovery Partition; iLife is added Apps that are not part of OS X.

How can I use aperture after receiving the full adobe suite? It won't allow me to use it. I receive a dialogue box which states previews are not allowed in  aperture and the application is shut down.

Aperture is Apples version of Lightroom. This has nothing to do with Adobe. Ask on a Apple forum. You won't find many people here using this program.

I want to make sure that the new Creative Suite 6 program is compatiable with my apple
computer before i buy it. my mother last year had brought me the creative suite 5 program
for my Dell Desktop computer however, this computer later on crashed and now i am stuck with
the CS5 program my mother brought because, this version of this program she brought is

  • Where Can I Find Components And Footprints Not Included In The Circuit Design Suite Databases?

One of the most common questions asked by users of the Multisim and Ultiboard suite is about finding components. From time to time you may come across the need of a particular component or footprint (lanbdpattern) that is not included in the master databases. So where can you look for these components? There are multiple places to begin your search, both 3rd party and from NI that are free and readily accessible:
One of the long-standing free resources is the Kittmaster's Component Database which is maintained by Kittmaster (Chris) one of our proven active veterans of this board as well as a Beta Tester of the Circuit Design Suite. You will find a vast collection of already built parts in Multisim and Ultiboard formats that have been submitted by users like you that have register on kittmaster's database and that actively upload custom component creations. I encourage you to register and share.
NI has recently created the Circuit Design Community in response to requests from users around the world. The Circuit Design Community aims to provide an open resource for designers that need or would like to share Multisim components, Ultiboard footprints, sample design files and other documents that are of use for the design community. The basic difference between the Circuit Design Community and this Circuit Design Discussion Forum is that the Community is tailored for document and file sharing, whereas the Forum is designed with problem solving, tip sharing and general support questions in mind. Again, I encourage you not only to search, but also to share any components you may have created that are useful for other designers.
Most manufacturers that offer SPICE or PSPICE models in their websites would typically allow you to download them free of charge, in most cases accepting a license agreement. The first step is to identify who the manufacture of the part you are looking for is, as well as cross-reference manufacturers. Then search in their corresponding websites for the product folder or design resources section. If you find SPICE or PSPICE models you can easily import those when creating a new component, remember that Multisim is highly compatible with PSPICE models, and every new release adds more compatibility. If you cannot find the model, it does not hurts to call or email the manufacture and ask directly if they have such models, in many cases they are not advertised in the web.
Last, but not least, use your favourite internet search engine and see if anyone out there has posted or worked on a similar model.
Thank you for using the support resources and I hope that these options fulfill most of the component searches that you may need to do.

You can have a look at some established projects that are using similar tools - where do they put the application files etc.
    There are things like XDG_CONFIG_HOME, XDG_DATA_HOME etc. http://standards.freedesktop.org/basedi … atest.html

You won't lose anything because you have a back up, right?
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Why is my trial download for the Adobe Creative suite taking so long?

Hi-I have a MacOSX 10.6.8 laptop with decent internet service.I started downloading the trial for the Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Design Standard in the morning and it is now 8:59 p.m. and it still says 20 hours left. This trial is only for 30 days-a day has gone by-that has taken away from my trial and learning this with the intention to buy after. What is the possible reason for this and do I get a day back in my trial?
    Thhanks for your immediate response.

Copying a solution from this doc: Troubleshoot download problems (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/152/tn_15296.html)
    Estimated download times
Many factors, such as the connection type and network traffic, affect download speed. The following table provides estimated download times for different file sizes at typical connection speeds. These estimates assume ideal network conditions. Your actual download time can be longer. For faster downloads, avoid peak hours (9am to 6pm Eastern time). Demand for downloads can also be high the first week after a  product release. Some products, typically applications that are about 1 GB or larger, require that you have a broadband Internet connection for download.
Note: When you order, look below or to the right of the Delivery Method pop-up menu for the file size and estimated download time.
