The Math characters "="& "-" are faded out

Hello,
In an iMac G4 running Tiger, I have a Pages '09 file. In that file, when I type Math characters like "=" or "-" they appear faded out. In the format bar there are 3 options: "Bold", "Italic" and "Underline"; the first two are also faded out.
What can I do?

Is this it? It has a very restricted set of characters and can't imagine it is the right font for maths.
If you want special maths symbols:
Menu > Edit > Special Characters > seek out the unicode characters that you want

I have an iBook on itunes and I am trying to upload a new version of the book. I am following the workflow through iBooks Author and when I fell out all of the infromation for the package on iTunes producer i then hit the deliver button and I get the following error message:

As far as I can tell the file that is being referenced does not meet the criteria axpressed in the erro message and in fact that file has been created by iBooks Author so one would think there shouldnt be an error.
I also get the following to error messages:
Apple's web service operation was not successful
Unable to authenticate the package: The Gallbladder-4.itmsp
Would ove any help.

After loading a picture into Photoshop some of the menu tools are greyed out and I cannot use the keyboard short cuts, for instance I cannot use Ctrl + T for free transform, how do I resolve this problem. In addition the tool Icons are so small I have to get close to the screen to see them, is there anyway the Icons can be made bigger without reducing the resolution of the screen.

Are you working on a background layer? If so, Ctrl + T will not work. Press Alt and double-click your background layer to convert to a normal layer (or right-click BG layer and select Layer from Background) and try again.
If you're working in Photoshop CC 2014 you can go to Preferences > Experimental Features and tick "Scale UI 200% for high-density displays" to make your buttons and icons larger.

Select all the songs and then Advanced -> Convert ID3 tags.

If it's not too late, see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. As long as you have a backup of the device when the device still held your photos you should stand a chance of recovering them using a tool such as iPhone Backup Extractor.

Math characters are being displayed incorrectly in a webpage. eg. Þ is being displayed instead of what I think should be ⇒

I am using Firefox 24.0 in Linux Mint.
I am currently doing a math test. Incorrect characters are being displayed.
There are only true/false questions on this math test. The questions on it are supposed to be very easy basic algebra questions, but because the characters are not loading properly, I cannot tell what they are.
A few examples from the test:
Are the following statements true or false:
|-7|=Ö49=7
Ö8-Ö29=Ö(-21)
Ö8-Ö29=-Ö21
3x=6 Þ x=2
(x-2)(x+2) = 1 Þ x-2 = 1 or x+2 = 1
Based on how they are being used, I assume Ö should be a √, and that Þ should be a | or ⇒
What is happening here? How do I fix this?

What font is specified if you check that via the right-click context menu in the built-in Inspector?

My itunes will not let me download the music that I purchased on my phone to itunes. So the music show up in itunes but when I go to download it the songs and the download symbol are grayed out. How do I fix this?

Make a secure backup of your Songs.
Uninstall iTunes.

HT6437 My itunes cannot locate my ipod. All the sync option are grayed out and diagnostics says that itunes cannot find usb ports and that no device is connected when it is. What should I do to solve this issue?

So itunes is giving me problems. Since around Christmas time, itunes decided to stop reading my ipod. I connect it to my computer with the usb cable and my computer will recognize that a device is connected but itunes will not. If I go to file->devices and try to sync, all of my sync options are grayed out, while before it would just automatically sync.
When I run diagnostics it tells me that under ports that it cannot find usb ports (it has a green circle?), a type of cable isn't found, and that no device is connected with the usb cable (which my ipod is). I have been trying to fix this issue but nothing is working. I've tried restarting my ipod, itunes, and my computer, i've also tried resetting my ipod and uninstalling itunes then reinstalling itunes but nothing seems to be working.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

- New cable and different USB port

Photoshop CS3, wanting to batch re-size JPGs, going: file-scripts-image processor, the batch images are greyed out can't be highlighted

Hi - I am trying to batch re-size JPGs in CS3. I go: file-scripts-image processor and select a batch of JPGs but these are greyed out and can't be highlighted, therefore can't be re-sized. This function worked in the past and suddenly does not. Reading forums on this topic I find I should remove/trash 'Photoshop Preferences'. But I am struggling to find Photoshop Preferences. Really would appreciate simple instructions written for the layman not a computer savvy individual, on how/where to locate these, please. Many thanks.

A few things to try.
1)Since jpg's are finiky with bit modes, make sure your mode is in 8-bits per channel only. (found in the image>mode menu)
2)you could try resetting the preferences by using the 3 modifier keys at startup. ctrl-alt-shift(windows) cmd-opt-shift(mac) Hold these three keys down when you start photoshop if done right when photoshop starts you should get a dialog box asking if you want to reset the preferences)
3)If these do not help specify the version of photoshop, what OS you have and its version. Then someone can tell you the location of the preference files since it is different on windows vs. a mac.

The Function Buttons are Greyed Out in Numbers

I am new to Numbers having used Excel for years. I am trying to add up a column of figures but when I highlight the column and click the 'Function' button at the top of the page, all the functions are greyed out so not usable. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
I am using Numbers 3.1, downloaded on Saturday.

select multiple columns, then drag the quick sum tag or use the formula:
=sum(<RANGE1>, <RANGE2>, <RANGE3>, ...)
where <RANGE1> thru <RANGEn> are any valid ranges
e.g.
=sum(A:C) will sum columns which would be the same thing as:
=sum(A, B, C)
you can also sum rows 1, 4, and 7 like this:
=sum(1:1, 4:4, 7:7)

The special characters are not loading. ?

For some reason the special characters stopped appearing when I click "Special Characters" under the Edit tab. I don't understand, and unfortunately in my academic work practically a third of the characters I have to use are these. Is there another way to access them or a problem that might be responsible? I already closed and restarted.

The window was already open but at the VERY EDGE, barely perceived, at the bottom so I had to grab it real fast before the icons popped up. Lesson learned.

HT1351 Manual sync wont work, it wont transfer the music it only lists the songs wich are grayed out

Hi, Not sure why I can only post this in older ipods when its my iphone 5 but here goes:
I double checked the article for manually managing songs and I'm doing it the same way, but the songs wont complete the transfer, they are just grayed out. I tried it with the iphone 5 over wifi and then directly connected to the computer with the usb cable and still no luck.

Ive always manually managed it because I hate that I can only sync on one computer and every time I would have to delete what was on the iPhone, which is stupid IMO.
You can blame the record label companies for that.
I'm running a little low on ideas. Perhaps you could still try and post over in the iPhone forums.

Does anyone know of an official Apple document that states what the supported characters are for the firmware security for all Intel based Macs?

Same question for user account passwords on 10.8 and later: Is there an official Apple document stating the valid characters for a user's local password?
The reason that I'm asking is that years ago on the Open Firmware Macs you couldn't use the capital letter "U" in the firmware password. Then there were issues on 10.5 when the user's password was changed and started with the '$' character

The only documentation that Apple's provided on securiy ended with Snow Leopard. Peruse these. For Lion and beyond, all I can offer are these, but I don't know if they'll answer the question. Finally, contact Apple's Express Lane and see what they say.
UPDATE: Found this which states: Use a secure password that contains both numerals and letters in the first eight characters.
