The monitor on my 17in MCP unibody is off center???

It was purchased in 2010 by my brother and he gave it to me. It's still under warranty. The top doesn't align with the unibody when closed, and there is no sign of any dents or scratches indicating ever being dropped, so I assumed it could be a manufacturing problem since it's only off by like 2mm and on one side. The screen is fine, the graphics look great, but it's kinda annoying me that it won't close straight.. What should i do? Will Apple repair this under the 1 yr warranty?

Using my Canon D7 in Yellowstone and the metering spot? in the LCD screen is off center to the right.  I was shooting in AV mode.  Don't know how to get it back to the center of the screen.  I am a newbie to this camera.  The autofocus spots seem OK.

  • When in screen saver, mode the monitor/desktop fashes on-off

When I stop using my Mac mini and it is supposed to go into screen saver mode, it doesn't.
The monitor and desktop keep flashing on and off (screen saver itself never appears). This just started yesterday; no trouble before.
I never have this problem when the mini is in use.
I don't know how to troubleshoot this annoyance.

    It sounds like preferences, log back into your normal account and check your Preferences Thoroughly;
    • Navigate to ~(YourHome/Library/Preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs" .
** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)

  • I installed a new video card onto my computer...the monitor wont work!!!?

So I got a new GPU (VGA MSI NX8800GT 512M OC RT). I installed it last night and plugged the monitor into it...I know the computer sees it because the LED light turns green, then it goes to sleep. So I figure that maybe the GPU is incompatible with my motherboard, so I put my old one back in and the same thing happens!!! Anyone know what can cause this?!?!

Test with mainboard out of PC case:
Test the motherboard outside of the case to verify that the motherboard is not shorting to the case and causing a problem
         •    With only the CPU and heat sink, memory, and video card (or onboard video) connected to the motherboard, place the motherboard on a non-conductive surface and retest the motherboard
         •    Check the case mounting standoffs to verify that they are lining up correctly with the mounting holes on the motherboard.

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

  • I plugged my macbook pro into an external monitor, then unplugged it later and now it is stuck with black borders on top and bottom and zoomed out like it is still on the monitor. How do I fix it?

I started using my external monitor with my macbook pro and as soon as I plug it in it to the monitor it adjusts the screen by zooming out a bit and creating about 3/4 of an inch black borders on the top and bottom of the screen. But these dont show up on the monitor so I assumed it was fine. But when I took it off the monitor, the borders were still there like it was still on the monitor. Any hellp? Its starting to mess with my eyes haha.

    Hi aefulcher,
It sounds like you had the external display set to mirror the internal display so the resolution(s) were changed to match each other.

  • How to connect an external monitor to macbook pro. The monitor has no usb connector without a usb

How to connect an external monitor to macbook pro. The monitor has no usb connecter, only a port.

Most MacBook Pro models have a Mini DVI port, a Mini DisplayPort or a ThunderBolt port for connecting an external display. USB does not have enough bandwidth to support a responsive display connection.
What model MacBook Pro do you have, by year, CPU speed or MacBook Pro 3.1 designation?

  • How to solve the monitor shuffle?  G4, G5, Cinema Display and 2 ViewSonics

Here's a monitor puzzle I'm hoping to get some help with.
    I have two computers- a G4 and a G5.
    COMPUTERS
G4- 1 VGA port, 1 ADC port - video card is ATI rage 128 pro.
    http://everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg4/stats/powermac_g4450.html
    G5- 2 DVI ports
    http://everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg5/stats/powermac_g5_2.7dp.html
    MONITORS- 1 20" Cinema Display
    - Two 17" LCD Viewsonic VG720 displays. Both monitors have a VGA and DVI output.
*What we need to do is have the Cinema Display on one computer, and the ViewSonics on the other in a 2-monitor setup.* It doesn't matter which monitors go where, as long as they work.
The ViewSonics can't do a simple 2-monitor setup on the G4. One of them can hook up to the VGA port. But the other one can't hook up to the ADC.
But since the ViewSonics are both DVI-compatible, they work great with the G5, with no problems.
This leaves the Cinema Display to be hooked up to the G4. The Cinema display is a DVI, but the G4 is only VGA and ADC. I bought a DVI to VGA adapter and hooked it up to the G4, but no response from the monitor. No luck.
Question 1: Would this work if I bought a DVI to ADC adapter?
    I've seen this: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=T27 74G/A
... But I don't want to buy it if it won't work either.
    Other scenario:
I hook the Cinema Display up to the G5 (flawless) and try to put the 2 ViewSonics on the G4. One will hook up to the VGA just fine, but then I'm left trying to convert either a DVI or a VGA to the G4's ADC.
Question 2: If I buy an adapter for this purpose, could I do a 2-monitor hookup with a VGA and an ADC on the G4?
    Thanks for helping!
    Owen

    Thanks for your response--
    I looked at this adapter:
    http://www.mycableshop.com/sku/ADCHD1506.htm
    However, it says this:
"The adapter cable allows any VGA monitors to be connected to the new dual-display G4 system with ADC video interface. The VGA monitor can be used as the primary display, or as a second display on G4 that supports dual-monitor support. Compatible with GeForce 4 MX, GeForce 4 Ti, Radeon 7500, and Radeon 9000 Pro."
My graphics card is a ATI Rage 128 Pro. Will it not work, then?
What is the possibility of adapting the Cinema Display from DVI to ADC?
    Thanks!

  • I want to remove the monitor from my 17" Macbook Pro 2008 to use as an external for my Macbook Pro 15" 2012. How can I convert lvds to Thunderbolt and power the monitor?

I want to remove the monitor from my 17" Macbook Pro 2008 to use as an external for my Macbook Pro 15" 2012. How can I convert lvds to Thunderbolt and power the monitor?

It's almost impossible.  The new iMacs have a Target Display Mode, but it's built to do that.  Without ripping your screen out, finding an acceptable power supply, frame, and whatever electronics to convert a Thunderbolt signal to the screen, the cost will be much larger than buying a cheaper HiDef monitor that runs with an HDMI to Thunderbolt cable to your MacBook 15.  In fact, you can sell your 17" MBP for a lot of money, unless it's broken or something, buying you a really sweet monitor.
By the way, I found your answer by searching this forum.  I would suggest using the search function here in the futuere.

  • How do I replace the frame from the monitor on my GX740?

Problem: When I move the hinges on my laptop, sometimes the screen goes black until I move it into a different position, like the light disconnects (in fact, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happens, as I can still see some stuff on the screen; it's just not lit). Having had LCD problems in the past with other machines, I figured "hey, probably just a loose connector, it happens; I should be able to just lock that strip back in place quite easily" (why they don't just make those connectors less prone to falling out - especially ones located in or near hinges - eludes me).
Sure. If I can just get inside the monitor frame. Which it seems I can't. I removed the screws, but when I tried to pull off the plastic frame, it cracked. The plastic frame around my monitor now has visible cracks in it.
So now I need to know not only how to remove this frame, but if possible, also where I can get a replacement for just that one part. I'll gladly take just an answer to the first part and live with the cracked frame as long as I can do something about the loose connector, but if there's an answer to the second part as well, that'd be really neat.
So...how do I remove the frame? Where can I get a new one now that I've ruined this one? Are there spares? Are they expensive?
I'd greatly appreciate a quick answer to the frame removal question, as I intend to bring this computer on a trip overseas and would like the LCD light to not have disconnected completely by the time I arrive, so I'd like to properly attach it before it's time to leave.
I've never had a machine that's so hard to open. This strikes me as quite user-unfriendly design, especially given how little it takes for an LCD connector disconnect, especially one located in the hinge area of a laptop.

  • How can I turn off the monitor but not the computer on my touchsmart 310..

I leave my computer on at night to keep wireless network going, but I want to turn off just the monitor. All of the advice I've seen is to turn off the touchscreen feature -not the monitor itself. Thank you.

You can set the timing for the display to turn off.
    Try this:
    Click:
    Start.
    Control Panel.
    Hardware and Sound.
    Power Options.
On the left bar you'll find Choose when to turn off the display.
At Turn off the display:  there is a drop dowm menu to choose the number of minutes before the display turns off.  Make your selection.
Try that and see if it works for you.

  • If I put my 7300 in slot4 at 8x, and a 8800GT at slot1, 16x, could I boot 10.4.11 on my mac pro 1,1 if I unplug the monitor from the 8800GT?

    If I put my 7300 in slot4 at 8x, and a 8800GT at slot1, 16x, could I boot 10.4.11 on my mac pro 1,1 if I unplug the monitor from the 8800GT?
I have different os's installed on my different hard drives. I'm using 10.6.8 now, but I go back to 10.5.8 and 10.4.11 on accasion. Can I run 10.4.11 with the 7300 in the 8x lane? As long as I unplug the 8800GT but leave it installed in the 16x slot1? And attach a monitor to the 7300?
What about using the 7300 to run extra monitors or a monitor while running 10.5.8 and 10.6.8?  Is that a problem? I have 10GB Ram and the 1,1 original machine.

I know the 8800 requires 10.5.2, but if it is installed (at 16x) but no monitor is connected, will it allow the 7300 to control one or two monitors in 10.4.11? When the 7300 is in the 8x lane? And will it boot?
I lost part of your train of thought. Are you telling me to get just an ATI 5770 to continue using this machine into the future?
I thought the original mac pro 1,1 needed cards of the same manufacturer. If I use the 5770, that eliminates the ability to boot 10.4.11, correct?
What if I keep the 7300 handy in a box and put it in when I have to use 10.4.11? ( select the start up disc, shut down, change the card, restart) Does the 5770 require a power cable to another board that I might damage with repeated changes?
