The mother-in-law bug

Hi to all. This is my first, and I hope last, topic on this forum.
iPhone is a wonderful piece of art, and it works very well.
There's only one flaw, that I can't understand. Everytime my mother-in-law calls me, my iPhone freezes: on the screen compares the Apple logo, but nothing happens. At the beginning, I thought it was only a reboot, but the logo didn't go away even after many minutes. It freezes and it can't work. The only way to make it work again is to turn it off and then reboot the phone. And it happens everytime my mother-in-law calls.
I don't know what is the issue. Maybe it's the phone, a strange OsX bug, or maybe it's my mother-in-law with some paranormal powers. I don't know, I don't really know. But it happens anytime.
Anyone having the same problems?

Does your MIL work for Microsoft?
Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
If this doesn't work, try a Restore... http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf

    Soccerdm,
a direct download of Adobe Reader X 10.1.4 (which seems to be the most recent standalone version that runs on Mac OS X 10.5.8) is here.

Since installing the latest update my mother-in-law gets Error Code VM502 when sending to only 6 recipients. This didn't happen before the update.

The error came from your providers server. You need to ask them why they are setting limits.
Thunderbird does not have any limits.

  • The picture ID on my outgoing Mac mail  is not mine -- it's the photo of boyfriend of my mother in law is appearing as my ID photo.  I have no link or connection with anybody  or other accounts whatsoever, and I don't have ANY third-party networks myself.

The picture ID on my outgoing Mac mail  is not mine -- it's the photo of boyfriend of my mother in law is appearing as my ID photo.  I have no link or connection with anybody  or other accounts whatsoever, and I don't have ANY third-party networks myself.    HELP!!!

Nobody but you sees that photo, it does not appear on outgoing emails.
To remove the picture rather than change it, open Address Book and select your personal card, then from the menubar select Card > Clear Custom Image. Now the system will use Apple’s generic user picture in the login window and System Preferences’ Accounts pane. Mail and Address Book will remain blank until you designate a new picture in Address Book or System Preferences > Accounts.

  • My mother in law is wanting to make the switch. Help please?

    Gang,
My mother in law is looking to make the switch to Mac.  She will be utilizing her Mac to create a web page to include lots of content, pictures, video, voice recordings, etc.
One of the things she wants to puchase is Adobe Creative Suites, I think the premium package.  The system requirements are as follows:
    Mac OS
Multicore Intel® processor with 64-bit support
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or v10.6; Mac OS X v10.6 required for Adobe Flash Builder™ 4.5 Premium Edition and Flash Builder integration with Flash Catalyst® and Flash Professional; Mac OS X v10.6.3 required for GPU-accelerated performance in Adobe Premiere Pro
2GB of RAM (4GB or more recommended)
26.3GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
1280x900 display (1280x1024 recommended) with qualified hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics card, 16-bit color, and 256MB of VRAM
Adobe-certified GPU card for GPU-accelerated performance in Adobe Premiere Pro
Some GPU-accelerated features in Adobe Photoshop require graphics support for Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0
7200 RPM hard drive for editing compressed video formats; RAID 0 for uncompressed
    Core Audio–compatible sound card
DVD-ROM drive compatible with dual-layer DVDs (SuperDrive for burning DVDs; external Blu-ray burner for creating Blu-ray Disc media)
    Java Runtime Environment 1.6
Eclipse 3.6.1 Cocoa version required for plug-in installation
QuickTime 9 software required for QuickTime and multimedia features
Adobe Flash Player 10 software required to export SWF files and to play back DVD projects exported as SWF files
Broadband Internet connection required for online services and to validate Subscription Edition (if applicable) on an ongoing basis*
Visit the NVIDIA website for system requirements and compatibility. The list of graphics cards that are compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 is updated on a regular basis.
Can anyone recommend which machine and which upgrades would be needed to make sure this program would run ok?
She definitely wants an iMac.  My household runs Macs but we aren't tech savy enough to know what all of the above requirements mean.  Obviously there aren't a lot of customization options when purchasing a Mac so I'm not sure if it will require aftermarket type stuff.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Chad

iMacs are great machines. The Adobe CS suite will work on any new or older iMac.  iMacs have great video cards as well. I would suggest that once you buy the iMac, add more memory. Buying it directly from Apple is quite expensive but places like Other World Computing sell excellent memory at great prices. I don't work for them, but I am a long time customer. I love my iMac. The screen is just fabulous.

  • Why do two devices on the same plan both ring when someone is trying to facetime me? My mother in law got my father on his iPad when i didnt answer fast enough!

My Mother-in- law tried to Facetime me last night so she could see my daughter. My phone rang for FT but I didn't get to it in time. I thought she hung up. Turns out my fathers ipad rang across town and he answered it. we are on the same plan and both use the same iTunes accnt.

Are you also using the same Apple ID for FaceTime, as listed under Settings > FaceTime?
If so, don't.  While it's perfectly okay to share an Apple ID for iTunes & App Store, you shouldn't share an Apple ID with another person for the following:
    iCloud
    FaceTime
    Messages
Use a unique personal Apple ID.  Whoever is the actual owner of the current Apple ID needs to keep using that.  The other person needs to make their own Apple ID, and use that for iCloud, FaceTime & Messages.  Maybe even Game Center to be on the safe side.

My Mother-in-law just informed me she tried to buy me the new iPad 3 as my Birthday gift, but since she is in australia they wouldn't accept her credit card.
I had been waiting to purchase an iPad 2 for nearly 6 months...then just as I was ready, my wife tells me not to about a month ago. So here I wait again. I need it for a specific school I am to attend in a few weeks and with this rather **** poor hiccup, now I might be in a bad spot with the school.
Why on earth is my Mother-in-law (whom is a saint by the way....yeah I lucked out...I got an Angel for a mother in law) that does nothing but do things out of the kindness of her heart...why is her money not any good at the Apple store?

Your sainted mother-in-law will need to send you them money to buy it.
    Best of luck.

  • My bill, and my 80 year old mother-in-law......

As detailed in the email below, My mother in law went to a local (Brea, Ca) Verizon store to join the world of smartphones. What transpired next was a colossal misadventure that has yet to be fixed by either the local Verizon Store Manager or Verizon
A couple of weeks ago I stopped by your store to relate an incident that
occurred between a member of your staff and my nearly 80 year-old mother in
    law.
My mother-in law was in the market for a smartphone. We had done extensive
research together online and had made some decisions about which way to go.
That matter seemed dormant until I received a phone call one evening from
your store. A sales person rather abruptly told me my mother-in-law was in
your store looking to make a purchase of a smartphone. This purchase
however required her making changes to the account. I did not fully
understand what I was being asked, but I knew she had wanted to make this
move to a smartphone so I played along with your staff's recommendations.
Your sales person deemed it necessary to change our plan to a "share
everything" plan with some 8GB of data. This seemed high, but I was told by
your sales person that with this change "it included" a "jet pack". He
further explained that with the 50$ rebate the total cost of the device was
only 20$. That sounded like fun so I agreed. I inquired as to what phone
she had settled on, and the sales person responded,"I'm talking her in to
the Lucid2." My mother-in-law must have physically reacted to this
characterization because he quickly changes his vocabulary to "I'm advising
her to look at the Luicd2"
At no time did your sales person mention either the 20$ *monthly
charge*for the jet pack, no did he mention the 35$ charge for setting
    up the new
jet pack. Had he provided full disclosure at the time of the phone call the
    answer would have been "no".
We have been with Verizon for a *long time*. We have always been treated
with respect, and afforded a level of service that allows us to trust you
with (pardon the pun) our friends and family. My parents are now on
Verizon, as are all of my other family members. And we hope to continue
with Verizon for years to come.
When I spoke with you a couple of weeks ago I asked you to undo the changes
made by your staff member, and to date it looks as though you are holding
up your end of the bargain. Our newest bill has now arrived, and I invite
you to look it over to fix the final detail of this disastrous experience.
Specifically the 170$ cancellation fee for the ill-fated jet pack.
My wife and daughter are still holding out for this matter to clear up
before we try to get them a smartphone, when they do upgrade we will stop
    by and seek you out.
    Respectfully,
    Patrick
    ----end of email----
We are now headed to our 4th month in dealing with this matter. Really? 4 months? You guys are better than this. The initial boondoggle took place on May 9, 2013. My visit took place on or about on June 20, 2013. And here are headed toward Sept with little resolved. Except the fact that we now know, the representative needs a little help fulfilling his promises. My bill is up to date with the exception of the $170.00 cancellation fee that I was told would be "taken care of". But now it appears that (maybe) the manager is encouraging his staff to pray on 80 year old grandmothers and sign them up for stuff they have no hope of understanding, and hoping we'll just shut up, pay up and go away. Or maybe he's hoping Big Brother will step in so he doesn't have to be the bad guy toward his staff.
So let's go Verizon, I got better things to than babysit your Managers and their promises.

  • DVD burn for a French Mother-in-Law: NTSC or PAL?

    Hi All,
I've just finished a DVD slideshow of my recent wedding to send to my Mother-in-Law in france. Should I burn it using NTSC or PAL format?
I remember there's a problem of watching videos taped in France in the UK...
    Many Thanks
    Paul

sorry Sue to correct you (you're reading the wrong books <<THAT was a joke! only Sue understands....)...
    don't mix two things:
    video standards and region codes....
Europe is rc2 and PAL (...well, France is SECAM... but for DVD it is... PAL)
so, iDVD creates rc0 (=playable everywhere), BUT you shouldn't use it for video-conversion... luckyly, our European DVDstandalones accept NTSC DVDs and most Tellys are able to show the content..... (not vice versa with US/NTSC land)
Spud, you haven't told us what video standard you did the recording...? (huuu, this is an international board.... , world's a little larger then... letssay Illinois... )
if NTSC- stay NTSC and wait for mother's commends...
if you need a video-standard conversion, use JES Deinterlacer for converting movie (export from iM as dv stream/let SC convert/import new file into iDVD)

  • Customizing Mother-in-Law's Computer

Merry Christmas!! I am visiting my mother-in-law for Christmas and she has received her son's old G4 Powerbook running 10.3.9. She would like to make the computer her own but there are a couple of things I can't figure out. First, how do I change the name of the Computer? On log in it says Jeremy's Computer. I would like for it to say Mary's Computer. I have changed the Admin to her name but the short name still is Jeremy. Can I change this? Last, but certainly not least, every time the computer is restarted, it asks for a password. How do we skip this step and have it just log in upon powering up?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Merry Christmas.
To change the computer's name, go to Sharing preferences.
To change the shortname (not for the faint of heart) go to http://www.danfrakes.com/ and download ChangeShortName.
To automatically login, go to System Preferences>Accounts and click on Login Options at the bottom of the window. Select "Automatically login As".
