The mouse scroll wheel doesn't work with Xorg

I recently installed Solaris 10 on my x86 box. One issue is that the mouse scroll wheel doesn't work with Xorg. Hmmm... Okay, it sometimes did work, and most of the time went on strike, and recovered at random. This pattern continued.
My mouse is an ordinary PS/2 one with two buttons and a scroll wheel. I want to promise that there's absolutely nothing wrong with it per se. Here is some info:
$ uname -a

  • How do I get the scroll bar back to the right side of the screen and how do I get the mouse scroll wheel to work again?

Yesterday the scroll bar on Firefox was moved from the right to the left of the screen and the webpages do not scroll when using the mouse scroll wheel.

Reset the pref <b>layout.scrollbar.side</b> to '0' or set to '2' to place the scroll bar at the default right side.

  • Overlay an item over an activex control and/ or disabling the mouse scroll wheel

There seems to be several references in the discussion forum to placing a picture control over an activex item to prevent the activex item being selected etc.
The thing is, I can't seem to do it: the activex control is always on top, no matter what I do and no matter what control, or decoration I use.
    What am I doing wrong?
Failing that, is there another way of stopping the user getting access to the activx control?
Essentially what I want to do is stop them accidentally scrolling through the control's pages with the mouse scroll wheel. I've stopped them accessing the scroll bars, BUT it is still possible to use the scroll wheel unfortunately.
Something else I tried was a tab control: placing the activex control on a page and then trying to make the page on top transparent. Needless to say that didn't work....
    Andy

    Important questions:
What ActiveX control are you using?
I'm using the PDF activex control to display a PDF on the front panel of my VI.
What version of LabVIEW are you using?
     I'm using LabVIEW 7.1
What "control pages" are you talking about?
The pages of the PDF: it has several pages. If a mouse is held over it the user can scroll using the scroll wheel, or if they right click they can access the Adobe menu.
It's these that I'd like to inhibit them doing.
    Thanks

  • Can I use the mouse scroll wheel for zooming the timeline?

    Howdy...
As a recent convert from Vegas, one of the best features that I miss is using the mouse scroll wheel to zoom into and out of the timeline..
Anyone know a way I can set this up in FCP6?
    Thanks...
    -Ben

    Yes.
(I know I'm gonna get flamed by the pros here who will advise NEVER to use third party plug-ins, but... I've been a heavy user of FCP for years and NEVER had any problem with this, so here goes:)
Install USB Overdrive, and program your mouse with:
    - wheel_up to cmd+plus (=zoom in) and
    - wheel_down to cmd+minus (=zoom out).
I actually use clickedwheelup and clickedwheeldown for this zooming in and out, keeping the plain vanilla wheel_up and wheel_down for, well, up and down (or clip_left and clip_right on the timeline).
Nice thing is, it then works in the Viewer and Canvas to zoom in and out, too.
    HTH.

  • Viewing a video (YouTube, etc.) disables the mouse scroll wheel - switch to Opera and scroll on a page, return to FF and wheel is reenabled.

After viewing a video (usually YouTube, but not exclusively; either directly, or embedded in a web page), the mouse scroll wheel will become disabled. If I then switch over to Opera and use the scroll wheel on any open page, the scroll wheel will be re-enabled upon return to FireFox.

  • HT201343 My Mac book pro all of a sudden doesn't have the airplay icon and doesn't work with my Apple TV . Why  ?

My Mac book pro all of a sudden doesn't have the airplay icon and doesn't work with my Apple TV . Why  ?

The Airplay icon will not display if the OS is unable to locate any Airplay devices.
I would check that both devices are connected to the same network and maybe even power cycle the network devices - eg router etc
Maybe even try to connect both devices to another network like an iPhone personal Hotspot and see if that helps to isolate the problem

  • Publish for Approval - the new plug-in - doesn't work with Leopard

This aperture plug-in arrived for download just a few days before Leopard arrived. It worked great with Tiger. It doesn't work at all with Leopard. It appears that Leopard comes with a new version of Apache Server and it doesn't work with the Publish for Approval plugin. Does anyone know if and when an update will be released?

I'm not seeing the Java plugin in the plugins list in the System Details list.
Did you install the 32 bit Java version?
Do you see the Java plugin in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins"?

  • Can I change the scroll direction of the trackpad without changing the scroll direction of the mouse scroll wheel?

I don't know if anyone else came across this problem, but I noticed that changing the scroll direction on the trackpad also changes the scroll direction on the mouse. I enjoy the natural movement on the trackpad, but the normal 'windows-style' movement on the mouse. Any solution?

I too have same issue. By default trackpad has natural scroll direction. However for mouse natural scroll direction causes problem, if you used to use wheel on the mouse on Windows and Linux platform. If I change the mouse's wheel direction to non-natural direction. It fixes the issue. However it changes the trackpad's direction also to be non-natural, which is not good.
Both the settings can be independent of each other. (i.e. mouse's scroll direction and trackpad's scroll direction).

  • I updated to the latest version and now I do not have the page controls at the right hand side and bottom and can only move the page up and down using the mouse scroll wheel. I also cannot see the whole page I am trying to view.

When I open the web browser I cannot see the whole page and I cannot move the image sideways and must use the mouse scroll to move up and down.

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Mouse scroll-down doesn't work....

LIttle trackball for scrolling on my mouse doesn't work when attempting to scroll down. I've looked at the pref settings for it, and it all seems fine. It will move in all other directions, just not down.
    Advice please?

Glad it worked. Folks seem to have varying probs w the scroll wheel. I have been lucky. 1st one lasted 4 months and would not clean. Free replacement. This one is now going on a year w a couple of minor cleans.

  • Frame 7 question - arrow keys / mouse scroll wheel don't work

    I have FrameMaker version 7.0p579.
I've not used FrameMaker for quite a while, but I know my arrow keys used to move graphic elements, but they don't now.  Perhaps it's because I now use USB mouse and keyboard?
One other question -- was the upgrade from version 7.0 to 7.1 (or 7.n) a free upgrade?  If so, where can I get it?

    Hallo Framers,
I have tried both FreeWheel and KatMouse for a few days.
    * Both work with Windows 7 (beta version which I happen to have at home) and XP; I have no access to Vista but I expect it is also OK.
    * KatMouse interferes with Firefox's "middle-click to open link in a new tab". However this can easily be disabled (Settings>WheelButton>NoneOfTheButtons)
    * Some graphic programs (CorelDraw for example) use the wheel for zooming; both interfere with this. However a single-click on the KatMouse icon disables/enables it.
    * FreeWheel is hard to find and it's not clear whether it's supported any more; KatMouse seems to be current.
On balance I recommend (and myself use) KatMouse.

  • Opening a pdf document open in another tab prevents the mouse scroll wheel from responding in the current tab. I have observed this behaviour since version 3.x.

Right click on link for pdf document and "Open in another tab"
Immediately, the mouse wheel scroll function stops working in the current tab (or any other open tabs).
It's not a deal breaker, just a strange annoyance.

Using similar scroll function on my netbook. To add to the above, I find that using scroll is actually causing the PDF to scroll rather than the tab I'm actually in.
Reader 9 is installed on my Win7 Starter.

  • Mouse scroll wheel now only working from right to left scroll...

After update yesterday (10/15) on my MacBook Air my wireless mouse (Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000) that has worked forever will not scroll up and down.  Trying it In excel it will scroll right and left when I use it, but everything else (browsers, word docs) that have no real right left scrolling functionality there's no effect.  Looking in Mouse options there's no option to change the scrolling orientation from rigth/left to up/down... help please.

    setComponentOrientation( ComponentOrientation.RIGHT_TO_LEFT)

  • Logitech mouse thumb button doesn't work with Firefox upgrade

After upgrading to the latest version of Firefox, my Logitech mouse works, but NOT the thumb button, (which I have configured to be a double click).

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
