The mystery of the 5000 USB cable

Ever since I boyght a 5000 a couple of months ago I have been trying to get hold of a USB cable for it - but it seems that such a thing simply does not exist. Nokia apparently don't make one, and while several other sellers claim to provide one, every one I have looked at so far turns out not to fit the 5000. For most purposes I imagine Blurtooth will suffice - althought not, of course, for software updates. There seems to be simply no way to do s/w updates on the 5000 other than to take it into a Nokia Support Centre. But the real mystery is this - if no cable exists for this phone why does it have a cable socket on the side???
If anyone has an answer to this deeply puzzling question I'd be most interested to hear it.

It's simple, no USB cable exists because it isn't actually a USB port for use by the end user.
It's function is a service port that allows repairs to be carried out to it's software by the professionals at nokia care points. They have to put the port somewhere, inside would have been better but that was probably the only suitable place for it.
The 5000 is a budget model, that is why it lacks the ability to connect to a PC using a standard USB cable. Most budget models also lack the ability to be updated by the user.
If you look at it's sales specifications you will see that nowhere does it mention that this phone has a USB port or cable connectivity. http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/devices/nokia-5000/specifications
If you wanted a phone that you could connect to a PC then you have chosen the wrong model. The 5310 would have been a wiser choice that doesn't cost that much more due to it being slightly older.

  • PC shuts down when I plug the iPod USB cable in :(

    Hi,
I have just bought an iPod Nano 8GB. Downloaded the latest version of iTunes and installed. Then as soon as plugged the USB cable into the PC it shut down instantly. I had to wait a good 5 minutes when before it would boot back up again. I have tried the front and rear USB port... but to no avail
I running Windows Vista and my PC spec is as follows:
AMD Athlon X2 4600 Dual Core
    2GB Corsiar RAM
    256MB GeForce 7600GS
    320GB SATA II HDD
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum with Nvidia nForce 3 Ultra Chipset (motherboard)
The USB ports are all 2.0 compatible.
    My PSU is 400W.
I have 3 USB devices plugged in the rear and nothing in the front. Devices connected are:
    Keyboard
    Printer
    Scanner
I am sort of guessing the iPod USB cable is causing a surge of some sort, but I might be wrong.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be... and to fix it please?
    Many thanks,
    Gazza.

Have you tried to use a different USB port on the PC?
Does the same thing happen when you plug in a different USB device?
Try a restart of the PRE and try again. Go to device info, reset options and select restart. Try again and see if you get the same error.
When you get the Blue Screen Of Death in Windows, it ususally means that Windows has a problem and needs to be reinstalled.
You could try to re-insall the usb drivers for your PC and see if that may resolve the BSOD error. You may need to contact the PC manufacturer for assistance in re-installing the USB drivers.

  • How do i get video from my sony hx100 digital camera to my mac? after connecting the camera via the supplied usb cable, iMovie shows icons for 5 videos, but none will load.

i've connected the camera to the mac using the supplied usb cable. imovie shows 5 icons for videos but all of them have the red circle with slash through them and the box to import them is grayed out.

Get a nice Sony miniDV camcorder. It is not too expensive; it is small and easy to carry around to shoot your video. Most importantly, it will be instantly compatible with iMovie. You don't have to install any software, just connect it via FireWire (Sony calls this iLink) and you are good to go!
I have had several Sonys and love them. You don't need one with fancy editing capabilities because you will edit your movies in iMovie. Just be sure that it has AV In and Out so you can import and export back to the camcorder.
My current version is the small DCR HC-26. There are newer versions of that HC-30something and 40something. Look at the specs on Sony's website
Some of them require the use of a dock to import and export. I am not really fond of that feature. I like just connecting directly to the camera.

  • The new USB cable chargers

I have over 5 USB cable chargers from apple products that I have brought this year. All the USB cables have started to fray at both ends and all are Not working and they look old like I have had them for years. I am using a USB cable that I have had for 3 years that you click  in both ends to get the USB cable out and it works great and still looks new the new USB cables look so old compared to the one that I have had for 3 years. Before anyone get on here and says that I must be rough with the cords I have a USB cable cord for 3 years and it is in perfect condition so that answer it self.
Has anyone else had the same problem

    Hi Rudegar
I have sent them two emails about the problem still no reply and next week I have to take one of the iPhone to my local Apple store back for replacement so I will be taking all the cords with me then. Lets see what they have to say then hopefully replacement of the cable cords lol

  • HT5706 Is there a way around updating your Apple TV without the micro usb cable?

The light is just blinking at me and the tv shows a picture that I must need to connect to itunes.

Unfortunately, in that case, you will need the micro USB cable.

  • Can I use the same USB cable for both the iPhone and the iPad?

Brnad new user of the iPad - can I use the same USB cable for both the iPhone and the iPad?  The iPad does not charge when plugged into the computer or the wall (110V) adapter.  I've been able to sync in iTunes using the same cable on both.

Actually, the iPad charger works just fine with iPhones and iPods.  The iPod/iPhone charger will charge an iPad very slowly but no harm will be done.

  • TS3581 CAN YOU CONNECT A SHUFFLE (gen4) TO A KENWOOD CAR STEREO USING THE SHUFFLE USB CABLE ?

    HELLO TO ALL
ABIGMAC1 HERE! GOOD DAY TO ALL
JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD ANSWER THIS
CAN YOU CONNECT A SHUFFLE (gen4) TO A KENWOOD CAR STEREO USING THE SHUFFLE USB CABLE ?
I CAN USE AN AUX  3.5 TO 3.5 BUT NO WAY TO READ THE LIBRARY. PLEASE HELP ME!
    THANK-YOU
    ABIGMAC1

Check the documentation for the car audio system for device compatibility.  A shuffle may not be compatible.
If the car audio system is able to use a regular USB flash drive connected to the USB port, you should just get an 8GB USB flash drive for $5-10, load it with your "car songs" and leave it connected to the car audio system, instead of constantly connecting and disconnecting an iPod.
If the car audio system has an aux. audio input mini-stereo jack, you can get something like this
    http://www.amazon.com/Monster-iCable-Player-Auxiliary-Input/dp/B002AR5XIK
and connect your shuffle's headphones jack to the car audio system.  You can then use your shuffle to play through the car audio system.

  • I need to reset my apple tv due it not working following system update. I cannot reset onscreen, so need to factory reset via iTunes. However, upon plugging into iTunes with the micro usb cable, iTunes is not picking it up. Any ideas pleas??

All that happens is the light on the front of the apple tv flashes rapidly. Itunes is not recognising the apple tv being plugged in, so I cannot attempt the factory reset. Help!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Have you made sure that you have removed all the cables other than the USB cable when connecting with Apple TV to iTunes. Also make sure that you have connected the Apple TV to a powered USB port.

  • Why the micro usb cable doesn't come in the box

When I bought the apple tv the only this that came in the box was the power conector the remote and the apple tv, I been using my apple tv for month or maybe a year and never had a problem, but today when i wake up and tried to turn on the apple tv, it shows that i have to connect the micro usb to my computer to restore. So why when we by the product, if we need that cable why doesn't come with it?

it's one of the most common computer cables out there all smartphones but apples use them for sync and charging
all supermarkets sell them and it's only something you need if something goes very wrong
so it would make much more sense to include a hdmi cable

  • How can I use my Dx7 as a MIDI controller for Logic Pro  9? I'm using MIDI/USB cable but Dx7 doesn't appear in the 'set-up' list, what am I doing wrong?

    I'm using Logic Pro 9 -  9.1.8
    MacBook Pro Retina OSX 10.9.3
DX7 2 FD connected to my laptop with a MIDI/USB cable
When I click the 'scan all models' search in the 'Control Surfaces Set Up' there is no Yamaha DX7 in the list so how can I make Logic 'see' the DX7?

As Colin pointed out, you have to look first in the Audio MIDI Setup. If your MIDI Device doesn't show up there, then Logic cannot see it either (unless you are using Logic Remote on your iPad to play over Wi-Fi).
I'm curious about the "MIDI/USB cable you mention. If the DX7 has a standard 5-pin DIN MIDI out jack, then you have to connect that to a MIDI Interface first that converts the MIDI signal to send it over the USB jack out. Please note that you would see the MIDI Interface in the Audio MIDI Setup  app and not the DX7 itself. Also, in Logic you would see the MIDI Interface in the Environment as a valid MIDI input device.
    Hope that helps
