The NetFlix is Shockingly Inferior to the Roku Box

I think the AppleTV is a good NetFlix player but for Apple standards it's really not up to snuff. I thought by now there would at least be a firmware that addresses its short-comings. The most annoying is that it doesn't advance episodes in the TV series. I get the whole "not build here" idea but usually that's when you have something better. I would have rather they just slapped on the "standard" NetFlix interface in that section. The Visual Candy is okay but over all the NetFlix portion is bad (by Apple standards). Even the Samsung version was better... that's bad.

There really is no "standard" Netflix interface. Netflix doesn't make their own devices, and every Netflix device I have used has a slightly different interface, each with its own virtues and weaknesses. I like the Apple TV2 best because my queue shows more covers on the screen at once, and because it loads very fast. On the other hand, it doesn't tell you how much of a show you've seen, and when browsing the queue you have to enter a separate screen to get details on a title. I also don't like the Apple TV FF/rewind interface; I prefer those that (like Roku) show a scrolling series of thumbnails on the screen.

Networking Roku Box to internal Airport Extreme Card

Anyone? The Roku box recognized my iMac's wireless network, but it won't connect to my shared internet signal being broadcast by the iMac. Roku's forums are real hard to search in regards apple issues, as they just lump all networking together.

I had tried that to no avail. The issue as I now understand it is the assignation of individual IP addresses, which an Airport Extreme card either does not do, or I could not figure out how to make it do.
I just bought router, connected Roku to it by wire and made a wireless network for my computer: $40.

Time capsule only allows 2 devices at a time as a router. If I am using the iphone and macbook pro, it bumps the roku offline. Any suggestions?

At a guess you have cable internet connection.. please confirm exactly what you have.. two public IPs are allowed by some ISP.. once you use up the two IPs, there are no more..
Make sure the TC is in router mode. And to get it working you probably need to shut off the cable modem.. if it has battery backup remove the battery.. try 5min off .. if not long enough try 20min off. then overnight. The ISP equipment must reset to allow a new MAC address to capture the IP.
If you cannot work it out.. plug in the old router again.. and set the TC to bridge mode.. which I suspect it is in now.. and plug it into the main router.. it should work fine like that.

How do I unmute? I have been listening to videos via netflix and now cannot use the external speakers. The mute box is un checked but the speaker image at the header is faded

How do I unmute my mac book pro? I have been listening to netflix via head phones and that works fine. When I now try to listen without the head phones plugged in there is no sound. I look at the lower screen audio symble and it is not muted but the image of the speaker on the top is faded. My daughter was pushing keys. She may have done something.

If in SYSTEM PREFERENCES>SOUND>OUTPUT the Mute box is not checked, go to Finder>HELP, enter speakers in the upper right hand corner and look for the entry for a hardware test. Run the test and see what the results are.

Will the Westell 7500 wireless work with the Roku 2 XD Player?

I've never used the wireless router before. I got it from Verizon years ago and it's sat untouched in a box. I'm sorry if this has been addressed before but I couldn't find the post. I need to find out if the router is compatible and how to set the two systems up before I go out and buy the Roku.

That isn't possible with Netflix.
To watch Netflix on AppleTV select "Internet" from the menu and scroll down to Netflix. Sign in to your Netflix account. Your Queue will be available and you can pick up where you left off on your iDevice or computer.

Select the text and delete.
If you don't want text in the box, don't use a text box ie in Shapes there are various shapes. Select one without 'T'.

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

I m new to flex development and I want to populate the data
coming from the databasein the combobox.I am able to get the length

But what idiot decided to make the search box and the address field one and the same?
You think I'm being petty? Go try to research what a particular file is - for example, go see if you can find info on "bib.dll".
It wants to make it into a URL. It's not a URL. It may LOOK like one, but it's a name, honest!
Putting quotes around it doesn't help. Maybe I'm missing the advanced syntax it takes to get such a thing to be a search term instead of a URL. Even if so, how is this an improvement or simplification? It's certainly not intuitively obvious how
to force a search, short of dredging up a link to Google and typing info in there directly.
Doing a search and typing in an address are two FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS.
And hey, it's not a big deal that you can no longer see what it was you searched for, and maybe even edit it and search again. No, because now the search engine pages have to waste space to put up a box showing what you just searched for, since it's
now GONE out of the address field.
How does stuff like this pass a design review?
And to think the Microsoft Engineers worked extra hard to take it out.
You Engineers at Microsoft need to take the product back from your moronic marketing people and make it actually work right.

This isn't right. Ever hear the phrase "apples and oranges" to describe two things that don't go together? That concept fits well here.
You say that thinking along the lines of "you no longer had to think about which box you want to type into" helped justify the change.
Is there something wrong with thinking? This is akin to saying, "you no longer had to think about which nozzle at the gas station to fill your tank from".
Diesel doesn't work in a gas engine. Nor does the water from the garden hose.
You say "both methods of typing work in the one box". But they don't, logically! Did you actually read this thread?

Alas, what the simple users of the general public want and what experienced computer users need are clearly two different things, and it's clear looking back that this move simply marked another step in Microsoft's clear intent
to walk away from making serious computer operating systems that actually
work. Windows 8 is testament to that (and don't tell me you haven't noticed all the negative response). Other such things include Windows Search - which is designed to be unable to actually do an exhaustive search... Even going
back as far as hiding file extensions by default. And don't get me started on the use of telemetry to justify deprecating such things as Windows Backup.
Do you understand the difference between leading and following? Which, as a concept, would you say is better? You need to stay the hell away from trying to emulate what Google does. You can do better! If you want a different
example, follow Firefox - it still has a search box. Even Apple - known for dumbing things down to the level of the family dog - stil puts a search box in Safari.
I don't mean to be critical of your response, Ed, but this is a good example of "the operation was a success but the patient died".
Thank goodness there are 3rd party developers who are struggling to put back functionality Microsoft keeps removing. But then Microsoft removes the APIs they use. That's not going to keep!

I have a dialog window on my iPad2 labeled iCloud Bakup -- the iPad hasn't been backed up in 4 weeks. The screen is frozen. I can't clear away the dialog box to close down iPad and I can't get to settings to make any changes there. Ideas?

A dialog box has appeared on the screen of my iPad2 and has frozen the device so that I can't close it down or make changes to the settings. The titel is "iCloud Backup" and it reads: This iPad hasn't been backed up in 4 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked, and connected to WiFi.
I'm not sure why it hasn't backed up but I can't do anything to clear the dialog box, turn off the device or get to any settings or apps on the device.
Any suggestions? Please help -- I'm caring for my mother in hospice and don't have time to deal with this at the Apple Store!

It will try to make a backup every time your iPad is plugged to the charger and connected to a network. To prevent that this message appears soon, open Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup, and choose Backup Now

When i log on to thunderbird, the in box has the message, 'building summary file', this then takes ages to do . how do I stop it doing this every time I log on?

I am tech challenged. I know this is probably a setting that just needs to be changed but I have idea on how or where to go to change it. It appears to be a security setting - I checked the wrong box on a firefox popup regarding access. You can check the file prefs.js in the profile folder to see if you find any lines referring to that website and remove those capability.principal.codebase lines.
