I was told to hold down the off button at the top of the handset at the same time as holding down the round menu button at the bottom of the handset for 20 seconds - the phone went off, then restarted and it all seems OK now.

Since you have Pages '09 documents it is safe to assume that you own Pages '09. If you bought it from the App Store you should be able to download it again to your new machine. If you have the install disks, you can install it on the new machine and the find the updater for it.
Or you can go to the Apple Store (make an appointment) and get them to install iWork '09 on your machine. They will do this for free if you can provide any proof that you owned it on your older machine. They may do it for free anyway.
As others said, your '09 files should open, so perhaps they were '08 files. In which case you must open with '09 first. For this reason Apple will sometimes give you a free version of iWork '09. If you are not near an Apple Store try phoning them. No guarantees, but others have reported that Apple sent them a free DVD.
Worse comes to worse, look to buy it on Amazon or eBay, but try Apple first.

The new ACR 5.5 update will not install in Elements 7.0

Hello All:
This situation is now becoming ridiculous (well, for me that is). I just tried to install the new ACR 5.5 update and it is "unable to install" into Elements 7.0. I downloaded the update several times, unzipped the install file, but when trying to install, it just gives me a message that it is unable to install and to hit the "quit" button.
I have a Vista 64 Bit system with 12 Gigs of RAM. I've installed Elements 7.0 and Lightroom 2.5 on my system - all with no problems. For some reason, I could never get Photoshop CS-4 to install at all and I've been through the mill trying to install Photoshop - but nothing worked and had to eventually give up. Trying to get Adobe support for CS installation on my 64 Bit system has been ridiculous in this regard as each and every time I called, I was connected with some techrep located in India who all they did was "parrot" back what I told them - how frustrating. But as I mentioned, Elements 7.0 and Lightroom installed just fine.
The previous ACR 5.4 installed just fine into Elements, but now...ACR 5.5 will not install. It tells me that I do NOT have CS-4 installed so it cannot install. What's up with that? Has Adobe stopped supporting the latest ACR upgrades for Elements? What gives?
Does anybody just have just the newest ACR 5.5 plug-in by itself that they can send me so I can just put it in my plug-ins folder (or a place where I can download it)? Adobe used to just have the plug-in that you could unzip and copy and paste and put it into your plug-in folders - but not anymore. Now they make it an 82 Meg install program and thus some of my problems.
Can anybody help here? Why does the install program look for CS-4, yet overlook Elements 7.0 completely. Helpppppppppp.

Sorry to listen that you havent been able to install the Camera Raw 5.5 plugin.
But as far as my knowledge goes for PSE, PSE never lists Camera Raw plugin for updates in the Updater Preferences dialog i.e., if you will launch Help->Check for updates, a updater window will open. If you will check the preferences of that updater dialog, it will tell you that it never checks for updates for Camera Raw plugin unlike what happens in Mac. In Mac Camera Raw updates does get installs just by installing PSE(v6 of course as there is no PSE7 for Mac. Hopefully there will be a v8 for Mac by the end of october as seen in the last release).
Dont know exact reason why Adobe had configured it in that way? why there is some difference between Win and Mac.
So it prompts me that somehow you need to install Ps CS4 on the machine to get the patch installation through updater. Although this is not Ps forum, would you mind telling what error/issues are you facing while installing Ps CS4?

Its not telling you to update your iPad, its telling you you need to download a recent version itunes on your computer.

I turned the phone off for 30+ minutes and also tried to reset it, but the problem continues. Any ideas on how to solve the problem?

Double click the home button and swipe up the messages app to stop it, then open the app again. This pretty much completely stops the process and freshly opens it again, resolving problems at times. I have had this happen before as well on my iPad, I get a banner, check messages, and nothing new is there.
If that doesn't work, close the app like suggested above, but then restart the phone by holding down the home and lock button for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears.

On the new 10.4.7 update

I just installed the new 10.4.7 update; always happy to install a new update. After I booted back up I entered my login information and hit enter. The whole interface loaded so quickly I was astonished. Very little delay in loading up after login. Beyond that, applications are clearly snappy, especially with multiple apps open and being navigated\used. Spotlight seems...no IS lighting fast compared to before when it was merely supersonic.
This is exactly the sort of post I would attribute to an over excited Mac user, as so many of us are. Clearly I am imagining it or otherwise exaggerating, right?
I saw nothing in the update that I would attribute to this. Maybe it's just because it's been ages since my last reboot?
Any one else notice a difference after installing the 10.4.7 update? Of any kind?

Yes, I believe that's a big part of it. I do that and have never had an issue. However, I do not use any computer while it's doing an update, either. I know that's really not necessary, but it's only a few minutes. I've always got something else I can do. In addition, nothing external is plugged in - and that's easy too, as my printer is now wireless and just sits there all by its lonesome.

Have you tried to reboot your router? Unplug it, count to 30, plug it back in and let it reboot. Also you may want to go into your settings on your iPad and 'reset network settings'.
In case the update messed something up, letting the devices reboot sometimes helps.

iOS 7 allows you to have your apps update automatically. Therefore, the list of what has been updated stays so that you can see what was updated, when and what the release notes say. It has been suggested that they list has a limit, much like Recents. Currently, there is no way for the user to delete the entries manually. Just try not to look at them.

It lets me play the song from the folder in my computer and then it opens with iTunes and plays the song all the way through, but then if I try to play it again, it says the file cannot be located. So then I go to locate and go to the folder and all that and select it and nothing happens.

Not sure whether for instance you initially had a Yahoo optimised version of Firefox, and have now overwritten it with an official Mozilla version. Although the Mozilla version should NOT add unwanted features, but the Yahoo version may well do.
If you merely need to find the Yahoo emails page quickly just add it as a bookmark or as a bookmark on the Bookmarks toolbar and make sure that is visible.
Clicking the star icon on the location bar whilst looking at your emails will bookmark the page.

I had it plugged up for a while , long enoung for me to watch a tv show have dinner and come back. I thought the update was complete and came back to the computer and unplugged it. The next morning I saw a picture of aUSB cord and the iTunes icon. I have no use of my phone and cannot get access to emails, internet contacts..nothing . Help !

Well it should NEVER be unplugged when doing something.
It actually had not installed the software at that stage, it had been copied over to the iPhone, it was being checked and then it would be installed.
You need to connect your iPhone to the computer at home and hope that you can install the software again and then restore your backup.
If you install iTunes at work you may be able to Restore the software but you will most likely lose the content on your iPhone as you do not have a backup to restore on that computer, or all your media / apps.

iOS 7 requires iTunes version 11.1. If your software updates are not seeing the update for whatever reason, you can download and install it directly from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Keep in mind the requirements to download iTunes 11.1:

400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
