The new design of X240

I am an owner of the X230 and use it professionally as I am a programmer. I immediately fell in love with lenovos keypad and the trackpoint. From the first moment on I disabled the normal touchpad and would only use the trackpoint. As someone who uses his notebook several hours a day I have to say there is nothing better than the Trackpoint. The ergonomic positioning lets me use the trackpoint while pressing the mousebuttons on the keypad very efficiently.
I am a little bit disappointed about the new design of the X240, since it does not have dedicated buttons but only a touchpad. I know this issue does not seem very important but I thought I give some feedback. I love it that the mousebuttons are actual buttons and how they behave when pressed. I have used many other notebooks and never liked the way how they solved this issue, but with the x230 I soon realized what a great job lenovo did.
To summarize:
I'd like to see the return of the actual mousebuttons in future models.
Another really great thing would be the option to get one completely without the touchpad, since most of the people I know do not even use it.
Finally I have to say lenovo does produce great product, especially comparing to its competition.
Please tell me your opinion on the matter.

You probably want to use F keys and End key, won't you ? http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X240-End-Insert-Fn-key-woes/td-p/1330763

  • How can i exchange for the new design

Last year my sister purchased a ipod shuffle 3rd gen, for my 10 yr old daughter. She bought it from Target and spent $145.00 at that time. Shortly there after i became aware apple had replace this 3rd gen shuffle with a new design. One that is more user friendly, especially for my 10 yr old. I have to say we have been very disappoint with her ipod for several reasons.
    1. there is no face so you cant see what your doing
    2. you must memorize the amount of clicks in order to operate it.
    3. we have only been able to upload new music to her ipod once since she got it a year ago. Even with online tech support, reading online forums, owner manuals, help from family and friends. To no avail.
She has it still in the box neatly packed away. Its used as a show piece on her dresser to show that she has an (ipod). Neadless to say she does not use it,does not  like it mainly because there is no display panel which make it very difficult for her to function.
So how can i exchange/replace the old design ipod shuffle generation 3  for the new design.

Try disabling your firewall and try again.

  • Missing Features in the new design preview

So today Microsoft officially unveiled the new design preview for Skype for Windows desktop that we have been able to test on a field trial basis or by manipulating the URL to download.
Apart from the new design, this new version also brings a change in philosophy regarding group conversations and a very impactful removal of features for them.
At first I want to talk about an issue that has been part of the mobile releases for a long time, the removal of names for group conversations. In the good old Skype world, every group conversation had two parts to display the members of a group and the context of conversation that was happening in them, the name and the topic. With the new design though, the option to name your groups is gone. This means that instead of showing a familiar, easy to remember and recognize name, the contact list now shows the topic, a often (maybe?) changing and not representing the members of said conversation, as the name.
My favorite example on why this is bad is the following: Let's say you have more than one group of friends (hey, it happens) on Skype to talk about different things. One is your football club and the others are the chess dudes. You obviously name those groups "The sports guys" and "The chess guys" for your own sanity and ease of use in identifying them in your list. Both groups often have a similar topic set, mostly the date of the next meeting.
Now, with the new design, you are left with two entries in your contact list, both conveniently named "Next meeting at 5pm". Now what? Which one is which? No way to know at a simple glance. You really have to open the group and look at the members list to really know.
As a person who has been using Skype for group conversations for years and years, this really grinds my gears and I have been trying to get the developers attentions in varius threads on this forums, for once in the Android section (http://community.skype.com/t5/Android/Wrong-behaviour-in-group-conversations/td-p/1968699) where this problem has existed for a looong time and over more private channels and app feedback.
Now the only time when you can change the name of a group is when you create it. While in a previous version of the design preview, the option was still called "Change name..." as it is in the Android version, the latest release now correctly shows "Change topic.." because that is what it does, good job! I'd still like to be able to change the name independently from the topic.
The next bug is minor and about group conversation pictures, in the new design, it's no longer possible to add pictures to the header of groups, they just don't show up when you add them also the existing ones don't show in the contact list.

As I can't edit, I need to mention that I was kinda wrong about that, it reverts to showing the topic instead of the name in the contact list after a while, maybe after it syncs? Anyway, it still does it wrong.

  • Is there any way to bring back the font type and background of Safari reader from iOS6 in to the iOS7 ? I really miss it, the new design is awful, simple and has now class at all.

I agree with you, many things in the ios 6.x were more elegant. The reader was the most one of them. I think the ios7 wants to be the windows 8.

Are you referring to Australis? <br/>

Firefox Nightly 29.0a1 has that new User Interface. But Australis won't be in a release version until Firefox 30 or 31, well into 2014.

  • Should i get the current MacBook Pro or the new design MacBook pro 2012?

    Dear all,
GImme some opinions which to choose? Should i wait for the supposedly new design MacBook Pro? or get the current models that hae pretty good specs? I'm doing college at the moment and my current laptop is 4yrs old in need of a new one and hopefully get the 17" MBP coz the specs seem amazing. I'm doing graphics and multimedia so i would need a laptop that can handle all those stuff and be fast. So gimme some ideas what you think abt the current MBP and the soon to come new models? which is something pretty doubtful.

Hold off the buying. The current unibody macs are the last of the generation. A geenration that's in it's 4th year.
You might want to consider upgrading your current hard drive only to an SSD if your mac supports it. You can then move this over to your new mac. That's what I have done, and the speed difference of an SSD makes it feel like a new machine.
I would also suggest you buy a 15" and not a 17" save your money. The 17 is loking carrying a surfboard around.

  • How do I rate the answer in the new design of this newsgruop

I cannot find anything in this new design. What was wrong with the old one?
Anyways, how do I thank the aswerer for the good answer. In old times it was a rating, what is now?
    thanks
    Pawel

Seems like the new rating scheme is all over the place.
Like the 4 stars in my comment above..
I get the feeling people are providing stars based on other reasons than technical content.
Oh... oh.. Am I fishing for trouble or what??
You get 5*.. As a matter of fact.. they should either allow putting a single star or no star.
That way, no one gets upset with a poor rating..
Remember the labview_guru incident? I hope he is still around. There are many good contributors out there.. and it is good to keep everyone. We all need help.. (even Mr. "K" ???)

  • IPhone 4 - Love the new design, BUT worried about the antenna.

I want an iPhone4, it looks great, and has everything I would want. What worries me is the fact that the antenna is on the outside of the phone, all around the edges. I remember that most radiation from cell phones comes from the antenna, where the signal is received. Does this mean the radiation levels on the new iPhone will be much higher since your hand is fully in contact with stainless steel band?

I don't think Apple will commit such a grave error in phone design to have a device with the antenna touching someone's ear.
I've looked at the pictures located here http://www.apple.com/iphone/gallery/
Looking at the 2'nd pic, in the lower exterior metal band there is a space that separates the lower metal band from the top metal band. The same size and form corresponds with the location of previous Iphone's antenna allocated space.
This can be double checked by going to FCC's test https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits& RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&applicationid=573413&fccid=%27BCG-E2380A%27 and verifying the 11a SAR report file.
At page 27, on the GSM 1900Mhz, having the device parallel and touching the face, the value is 0.73 SAR. Using it in a tilted 15 degrees position (ear touch, lower part about 2 inches away from face), the SAR is 0.30. If the antenna were to be continuous all the way around, the SAR values would not change since the top part is in contact with the ear at all times in both tests.
I hope someone can confirm how the antenna is actually used in the new iPhone, I'm interested too since to me at least, having an antenna emitting so close to the ear means No Buy, antenna away from top = possible buy.

  • Why did they change the design of the calendar on the iCloud software for PC.The new design looks like something from the 1980's.

Why did they change the layout of the calendar on iCloud software for Pc's. The new calendar looks like it was designed in the 1980's.

Welcome to the new look of Apple.

  • The new design seems to be doubled, with the standart windows style underneath the new buttons and also the drop down menus are unreadable..

''''''i installed the new firefox and now its got a weird graphic glitch. i run windows 7 starter on my netbook and it seems as if the main window got two layers, the windows style and the new firefox style on top. the problem is, beside that some buttons dont really work, that the drop down menus are not really readable and the highlighting in the dropdown menus stays after going thought them.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Does Anyone Else Hate The New Design?

I think this new nano is too small, they should have just updated the shuffle to this new nano design.

No, it is just you that hates it.

  • The new design in v.29 is awful. Why on earth would you take away the navigation buttons? How do I reinstall v.28?

Classic Theme Restorer does not fix the issue. Mozilla is usually so good at user testing, this was a real blunder.

No, that was a planned design decision for Mobile devices. Unfortunately Firefox now uses the same UI for both Mobile and Laptop / Desktop versions, so the latter "takes a hit" in user configuration choices.

  • The New Design Is Terrible

First, I no longer get email notifications of answers to my posts. (Yes, I checked my preferences.)
Second, I can' see who's looked at my question, or who's replied.
The search function is near worthless.
The person who invented mouseovers should be shot.  I can't think of a more annoying web development.
I want my old community back.
    Other than that, great job.

    Hi, Richard -

Try this. Go to Your View (on the ASC home page), click "personalize" on that tab, then add the Watch A User widget (under "people" in the selector matrix) to your page - drag the green box down into the page area. Click the reveal triangle in the header for Watch A User after it's down there, and set it to watch you - it should be so set by default. Then set a comfortable number of items to be displayed (like 20 or 30). You can go back and change that at any time.
    Then publish the page.
The list shown in Watch A User will display the last poster's name in the far right column, along with a relative time. It is a dynamic list - the most recently active discussions will be on top.
Numbers will be shown just to the right of the title of each discussion - the first number is the number of times it has been viewed, the second is the number of replies to it.
As far as who (by name) has looked at your questions, that info has never been made available.
    Richard Setterberg wrote:

Yup. Google is your friend. You can restrict Google searches to just the Apple Support domain.

    Can't disagree completely.
On the other hand, they can be useful. For example, if you set up the Places widget in Your View, in the Your Places section of that page-area any community you choose to follow will be listed there (you can choose to follow a particular community just by clicking that item in the Actions box on a community's page). Then, when you mouseover the name of that community in Your Places, the hoverbox that appears will list the first 5 most recently active discussions in that community.
