The new facebook application killed my pearl Dx other apps no longer working..

Ok, it's not completely dead but I just downloaded the new upgrade and as it was downloading I received SMS messages.
I let it complete the download, with the uninstalling and rebooting of the old version but then I couldn't find my new messages and the layout was weird and now I can no longer even access my SMS to check them old messages or send new ones and if I try to click on the SMS/MMS icon my cell freezes up.
Is it possible the new application is causing a glitch on my phone?
I can only assume it came from the update as the phone is barely 2 weeks old and I've never had a problem with it. Also the new facebook application runs extremely slowly.. I was wondering if there was a way to downgrade back to the older version? In hopes that maybe my Pearl will start working properly again.

there is an unread message somewhere but you do not look at the right place. Here is how to find that message.
Home Screen >> "Messages" application
menu >> search
leave everything empty except :
Search type: Local
Include Encrypted messages: Yes
Service: All Services
Folder: All Folders
Show: Sent and Received
Type: All
menu >> search
you will see messages. Mark them as read or delete them.

If you are completely confident that you didn't hide it, then you purchased those with different apple id. If you completely confident that you purchases with same apple id then you have hidden it. How do I move a photo into an album in the new Photos application?

The simplest way is to show the Sidebar at all times - you can reveal it with options-command-S ⌥⌘S.
With the sidebar visible, you can simply drag the photos from the Moments or other albums to the album in the sidebar. You can select and drag multiple photos at a time by selecting the first photo, holding down the shift key and selecting more photos. If the album does not yet exist, select the photos and press ⌘N for "File > New album" to create a new album with the selected photos.

I agree with Mr. Hall that using mx.controls.Alert in Flex may be a better route.
Show the Alert like this:

How do you change the distance units in the new Maps application on Mavericks from KM to miles?

The scale in Maps follows your regional settings in System Preferences > Language & Region > Region.
Selecting United States, for example, will use English units (feet and statute miles).
There may be other methods I'm unaware of.

The new Photo application only goes to 50% after pushing the "Getting Started" button. Is there a work-a-round?

I've tried unsuccessfully to move over to the new Photos application. Every time I press the get started button it does well until it reaches 50%. There it hangs. I do have a large number of raw & jpg images in my pictures directory, but iPhoto seemed ok with it previously. I did leave it running over night and it was still at 50% the next morning. I am running on a 2011 MBP 17" running OS X 10.10.3. I have 400G of free space. I'm ok to throw away my old iPhoto library. I only used it for organizing. I use Adobe PS & LR for editing. I want to be able to do a similar thing with the new Photo Application. Timeline the photos, send them to iCloud and distribute them to my devices ... iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First, you have to add the Facebook account. Go to System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars, select Facebook and type your email address and Facebook account, so you will be able to post videos or photos on Facebook directly from OS X, post on Facebook on Notification Center, and receive notifications on Notification Center

the new notes application is great but is there anyway to transfer the files off the ipod and view them in word or notepad on your computer as that would be a really useful feature.

At this time the only option is to press the email button and send the Note to your email address.
Hopefully Note syncing will be included in a future update:

Try doing a reset - hold down the sleep/wake button and the Home button together until the Apple logo appears, then let them go and allow the iPad to finish restarting. Then launch Safari and try to open a new tab.

I downloaded some upgrade for pages, (not the new version for $19.95) now my computer will not open previous pages documents on my desktop without me buying the new version. I am not interested in the new version as I have seen numerous negative comments. I simply want my system to work as it did before Apple pulled this trick to force me into buying the new pages. You are aware that Pages for Mac and Pages for iPad /iPhone/iPod are 2 different program?
Looks like you have Pages for Apple mobile devices but not for your Mac.

You need two items
1 - the iPhoto application -
You install it from the App Store
2 - and the iPhoto library - restore form your backup from just before the disk died - no importing involved - simply restore and launch iPhoto and it will look in the pictures folder and open it and it will be exactly the way it was when you made the backup
As to your question Do you need it - No you can manage your photos anyway you please - iPhoto is a good way but not required - you can use any software you want and you can import photos using image Capture (in your applications folder) or any other software you choose - If you use iPhoto then they by default going your iPhoto library - if you use other software then they go where you say to put them

You have to swipe from right to left to delete mail.
In the settings, accessibility you can make fonts bolder, that helps a bit.
THe yellow paper...sorry, no tweak for that unless you find a different notes app to use.

- If you have iOS 5 and later you can turn on Assistive Touch it add the Home and other buttons to the iPods screen. Settings>General>Accessibility>Assistive Touch

You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.
