'The New iPad' cannot open videos

Hi all,
I moved from an iPad 1 to a new ipad quite seamlessly using iTunes to back up my details. The new iPad worked really well until I realised that it would only play the videos that were there from the back up. Any new videos I tired to play would create a 'cannot open' message.
I have done everything the way I normally would from using the same software to convert the video files to syncing them via iTunes.
Has something changed with the release of the new iPad? Is iTunes blocking me from sync videos I didn't purchased from the iTunes store?
What other reason does the 'cannot open' message come up for, maybe I can figure it out?

Wow...just wow... I love when I fix my own tech problems.
As mentioned before I felt my iTunes was the problem even though it was up to date.
I un-installed it and ensured I re-installed a 64bit version of it.
I synced it with the iPad but nothing changed.
Then I realised that maybe my zone alarm firewall might be the cause of all my problems even though I already tried syncing with zone alarm off (which didn't work) I thought maybe updating it to the latest version would fix the issue. I have long been aware that zone alarm has cause different issues with iTunes and iProducts. I don't know if anyone has ever covered it on these forums.
After installing the most current version of zone alarm firewall. I synced my iPad with iTunes and IT WORKED. My videos now play on the iPad perfectly.
Hopefully this new version of zone alarm won't cause any other conflicts otherwise I maybe have to remove it.
So in summary, ensure you are using the latest version of iTunes. If you are using zone alarm firewall. Update it or if that doesnt work then uninstall it complete and use another firewall.
Thanks to all who offered their suggestions.

  • So the new ipad can open PPS files?

I recall with the previous generations (ipad 1, 2) you had to download a software like Keynote to open an attachment file in PPS format. It seems the new ipad can open such files straight out of box without installing any additional program. Is it because of the 5.1 update?

  • Will the new iPad open password protected PDF files?

I attend college online, and have always had a problem viewing password protected PDF files on my iPad. Will the new iPad allow opening these files?
    Thank you!

You can install the same iOS version running the new iPad onto your iPad.
Download the free Adobe Reader app from the App Store. It opens password protected PDFs just like thee desktop version.

  • TS3367 An iPad 2 and a New iPad are trying to FaceTime,  we get connected and the iPad 2 can hear the New iPad, but the New iPad can't hear the iPad 2?  Mute is off, volume is full on?  Anyone heard of this?

Trying to FaceTime between iPad 2 and New iPad.  They get connected and can see video on both ends.  However, the New iPad cannot hear the iPad 2. The iPad 2 tried to FaceTime with an iPhone 4 with same results. Something is not set right on the iPad 2.  Checked for anything covering the microphone.  Anybody have an idea?  Maybe bad microphone?

You can restore the Air's backup onto the Mini - if not already in your computer's iTunes library then copy them over from the Air via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases (your iTunes downloads aren't included in a backup, the restore picks them up from your iTunes library).
Deleting an app off one iPad won't remove it from the other, and yes, when connected to your computer's iTunes they will show up as different devices (you can change the names that they show up as via Settings > General > About > Name) and what you subsequently sync to one of them won't be synced to other unless you choose to sync it.
If you will be using the same iCloud account on both then you can use Settings > iCloud to control whether your Safari bookmarks, contacts, calendars are kept in sync between the two.

  • I have the new ipad when I connect to my pc I do not find the videos and photos

I have the new ipad when I connect to my pc I do not find the videos and photos

What OS do you have on your PC ? I assume that the video was taken with the iPad - if it was originally synced to the Photos app from a computer then you will need to use a third-party app such as Simple Transfer to copy it off, you can't copy off synced photos/videos via the camera wizard.
If it was taken with the iPad and you have XP on your PC then large videos may not be recognised by the windows camera wizard . If the camera wizard isn't recognising the video then you could try copying it from the iPad manually :
Note: Windows XP cannot import video files larger than 500 MB using Camera and Scanner Wizard. You can transfer these files directly from your device by selecting them in My Computer and dragging or copying the movie files to your computer's hard drive.
If you find that not all your photos were imported from your device's Camera Roll after performing the above steps, you can either copy the photos to your computer using Windows Explorer, or you can use additional software such as Windows Live Photo Gallery or Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 or later to import all pictures.
To copy the photos to your computer using Windows Explorer:
Connect the iOS device to the computer.
    Choose Start > My Computer.
Double-click the logo for the device to browse its camera folders.
    Navigate to [iOS device]\Internal Storage\DCIM\100APPLE.
Manually copy the content in this folder to your computer, wherever you would like to store it.
Disconnect your device. Open the Camera Roll and manually delete all the pictures from the iPhone Camera Roll that you just imported.

  • How can I transfer a video between iPads? I can see the video in a photo stream but it won't save to the new iPad.

I shot a video with the camera on an iPad and want to transfer a copy to a new iPad Mini to take advantage of the retina display.  I can see it in a photo stream, but it won't let save it to the new iPad.  The old iPad didn't have enough memory to work on an iMovie, so I need to get the video in the new iPad mini to put it in an iMovie project.

Okay, I figured out that Windows has "AutoPlay" settings which can automatically download photos and videos from a newly connected device, such as an iPad Mini.  I think I could open it in Windows Explorer too that way but the auto download solved my problem.

  • I have the new ipad.  I am in the process of trasferring movies that were not purchased thru itunes from my PC  to the ipad.  My GB ipad allotment is almost used up.  How do I get the remaining movies into the cloud or does it only take itunes videos?

I have the new ipad and I'm trying to transfer videos from my PC to the ipad.  My GB allotment is almost used up and I want to utilize some of my free cloud storage.  How do I do this or does the icloud only take items purchased thru itunes?

iCloud cannot help you - it's not a storage device, but primarily a syncing and backup service.  You have to decide which videos to put on your ipad as you cannot add more memory to it.

  • Can videos not recorded on the new ipad be edited with imovie?

can videos not recorded on the new ipad be edited with imovie?

    Hi
Please rephrase Your Question - I'm not clever enough to get it
There are lot's of Cameras that record in lot's of different ways that can be edited in iMovie.
No iMovie can not use all Video-Codec's in the World - they are zillions and many needs to be converted to something iMovie can open and work with.
    • Still digital Cameras as Nikons - Import into iPhoto and then in iMovie Event's window import from iPhoto-videos title
    • miniDV tape Cameras - connects only via FireWire - then just Import from Camera into Event's
    • SD-Card or Hard Disk Cameras Connects most ofthen via USB and Import from "File or other"
    • from Internet - (out of my range - Guessing) - most will need to be converted into something iMovie likes - I would try
    - StreamingDV .dv - or -
    - AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec)
So as You see - I don't get it !
    Yours Bengt W

  • Watch video playlists on the new iPad?

How do I watch my video playlists from iTunes on the new iPad?
I subscribe to a number of video podcasts in iTunes. I've created a number of different Smart Playliststo keep them organized as I watch episodes and new episodes are published. I can sync these playlists to my iPhone and then use the Music App to watch them. When iSync the same playlists to my new iPad I can't see the playlists in the Music App. I can see the videos in the Video App, but they aren't organized in the same playlists that I have in iTunes. They are organized into individual Podcasts. This makes it harder to watch a series of shows when only one or two episodes from any particular show are synced.
Even opening up the Shared libraries does not give me access to the playlists that I've developed in iTunes to keep my subscriptions organized.
Please let me know what I need to enable or set to allow me to watch my synced playlists. Thank you.

  • Videos cropped on the new iPad

On the new iPad when I add video it keeps cropping the top and bottom off. Because of this from the shoulders up on most of my videos are cut off as well as about the shin level. Is there a way to fix this? If not this is a major blow to how I felt about paying for this app. Reading about it was about everything I wanted in an app, but how can I make movies and such with no heads?

Are you shooting the videos vertical (tall)?
iMovie edits video for TVs, so can only handle videos that are wide, and can only export wide.
This is a limitation that is not specifically said in the literature as far as I can tell.
If you bought the app recently, you can ask for a refund:
First, open iTunes and select the iTunes Store link in the left-hand column
Near the top right corner, click the arrow next to your user name (email address) and then selectAccount
About half way down the screen, click the Purchase History button
In the bottom portion of the screen, you will see your App Store purchase history -- click the Report a Problem button
Locate the iTunes invoice with the application you would like a refund for, and click the Report a Problem link
Fill out the form that follows and be sure to be as detailed as possible -- when finished, click Next
If your reason for requesting a refund is valid, Apple should respond within a few days and process your refund within a week.

  • Using iMovie to Edit Videos Not Shot on the New iPad

Hello, I am looking to buy an iPad (the new iPad) & I do a lot of traveling & video editing. In iMovie or the iPad can I import pictures & videos taken on my Nikon Coolpix (generic SD camera) and then edit the videos on the iPad like you can on a Macbook or PC? I am going to be traveling for 6 weeks & do not want to have to take a laptop with me so thought I could get an iPad & upload my videos/pictures to my iPad & edit them there and then upload the videos onto the internet. Also, if I make a movie on my iPad with iMovie can I export those movies to my normal computer? Do they save in "Videos" or something? If anyone has any experience or any advice I would gladly appreciate it and have a beer for you while I travel around.
    Thank you

So, help this old man make sure he has it straight...
    1. get the camera connection kit,
    2. import my movies & pictures from my Nikon camera via my sd card via the camera connection kit, to my iPad.
    3. the pictures & movies will be "open-able" via iMovie and then i can edit these externally made movies/pictures on imove on my ipad
    4. then save the movie i edited on ipad
    5. export the new made movies to my computer via itunes.
Is that it? If thats it you will have earned yourself another 10 points for sure
Thank you regardless if my 1-5 is right. I appreciate it.

I have a brand new ipad with iOS 6.1.3 and an imac with OS 10.5.8. I cannot update my OS on this machine, but want to sync the new ipad. What can I do?

If it's an Intel Mac, you can upgrade it to Mac OS X 10.6.8.
If it's a PowerPC Mac, you need to use these instructions and/or iTunes Match to put content on the iPad.
