When you go to Settings > WiFi, does it show that you are connected to your WiFi network? (If connected, a check mark will appear next to your network name.)
Where does the "loading" statement appear? How do you just get loading if you are connected to the Internet via cellular data network?
Have you tried any other application that uses the Internet like Yelp or a bank app? What happens there?
I wouldn't try the 5.01 update until you solve the connectivity problem! It's a very large update.
You cannot compare yours to your sister's. Just deal with yours.
Observations that may or may not help in your case:
1) Sometimes WiFi doesn't work well even if connected if the cell signal is very weak or "o" (vs 3G) shows.
2) Sometimes connection via cellular does not work if connected to WiFi but WiFi signal is very weak.

I had a similar issue. I had to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it. Assuming PC, you have to go to the control panel and use the uninstall applications tool. Then install it again. Worked for me.

How do I get my 300 playlists back on my IPhone after installing new IPhone software? The playlists still show in my ITunes on my computer but not in my IPhone. When I switch to synch by playlists and begin checking off the lists, the memory bar fills up. These lists are suppose to be in the ICloud and not go against my memory . I had access with my playlists to more than 18,000 somgs on my IPhone until this new Apple IPhone software update came alg. What do I do?
You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

The new ITunes software for Windows, ITunes vers. 11.0.1.12, is extemely clumsy for managing my IPhone 4. The help material is designed for the older version so is of no use. The interface is extremely difficult to use except for buying music or video. I'm trying to managing updating applications and syncing with my IPhone but there I can't find a drop-down menu or anything on help that tells me how to get to the IPhone window so I can initiate a re-sync on my IPhone. This is very frustrating because Apple is supposed to make things "intuitive" and have "good" help. Well, it's NOT intuitive and there is NO HELP. You need to fix this. I mean a terrible map application and now this terrible interface. Nothing but downhill since Jobs left us. Just remember, we all bolted from Microsoft because of this sort of crap and we can all bolt to Android if you keep up this trend.

Deactivate Search Entire Library to speed things up.
This should make managing your iPhone the same as it was before. -
I just bought a second iPhone 5. I want to back up my first one to iTunes and then wipe it so my husband can use it. Then, I want to reload everything to the new iPhone that was on the first one. Advice?

Turn off Facetime in settings/Facetime
Delete icloud account in settings/icloud
Erase all data and settings in settings/general/reset

Trouble downloading the new iPhone software (4.2.8.)
I have an iPhone 4, and every time I try to download the new software it takes about 25 minutes, then as soon as it's done downloading a window pops up saying "Error, network connection has timed out"
I'm not quite sure what that means...am I doing something wrong?

When i try to update my iphone with the new software, it will give me a message that says connection time timed out, and then it says some other little things about a network not having a connection. i checked all of that and it is all fine. Im not sure why it is not working. i even restarted my laptop, all of my stuff is up to date. Does any one have any sollutions or any advice? Please and thank you!

Problems synching itunes 9.0.1 with the new iphone software update.
I am running a MacBook pro with OS 10.5.8.
I have upgraded to itunes 9 and downloaded the new software for the iphone 3.1.2.
Now I cannot sync my iphone OR install the new software.
Every-time I try to do this itunes tells me that my iphone "disconnected during the install / sync".
This is nonsense of course! Any clues as to what is broken gratefully received.
PS I looked up the more information page that apple suggests. However this advice seems to be on the level of the "IT crowd". IE turn your computer off and on again; and update your software to the latest version.Ok, lets try some simple stuff first:
Go to Applications > iSync > Preferences > Reset Sync History
Let me know if that helps, also make sure that permit syncing on this computer is checked.

Problem when getting the new iphone software iOS4
I did the download to get the software but during the download i had a call ... didnt seem to disturb the download.. it then said it was backing up (syncing)... and then it would say "cancelling back up" n stop... ive tried to do it again .. many times and ive even turned both my laptop and my iphone off n retried it. but it goes straight to "backing up" but it cancells again! any help?!
I also had trouble with updating to OS4 through iTunes update. What I did to get around it is this:
1. Set iPhone to airplane mode and wifi off
2. Open iTunes and connect iPhone
3. If update message comes up - cancel (do not download and do not install)
4. Create a backup (via sync and backup)
5. While that is working, go to this site and download the 3GS OS4 firmware to your desktop.

6. When 4 and 5 are complete, disconnect iPhone and reconnect it

I can't get the new iPhone software to install
I have iTunes 8.2.1.6 I am trying to update my iPhone to software version 3.0.1
I have never been asked where I want to download this to. And iTunes happily fills up my OS disk partition and fails #*?&!!!! :-@
Why on earth would I ever want my iPhone software in my PC operating system partition?!?
How do I get it to use my data disk partition instead? Also, how much disk space do I need? Apple refuse to tell me, and they won't help me get the update to work. I may have to ask for my money back....I realised the location was C:\Documents and Settings\...\iPhone Software Updates
The update I have downloaded (version 3.0.1) is just under 236MB (or 230MiB). I still have 216MiB left on my C: drive after downloading the file, but when I try to install it, it runs out of space.
I have moved all the "temp" directories to a different disk partition, and I'm only installing software to this data partition now. Occasionally I have to uninstall and re-install software to maintain this. I also keep having to move stuff (like these update files) out of "Documents and Settings". Sadly I failed to keep my existing user accounts and their settings when I moved this folder to a different partition, so I had to put it back
What I was asking is how do I change the folder used for either the download or the extracted files? And if this, as I suspect, is not possible, how much free space to I need in my Windows partition?!? -
The new iphone software update stops downloading???
It stops downloading about an hour into it saying network error, session timed out.... and it isnt like my computer turned off because i was watching it the second time... It isnt just with this update that it is happpening because it has happened on others.
i too would LOOOOOVE this to be resolved. its been happening to me since i got the first iphone, ive never been able to update any of my iphones and ipads, i did get my iphone 4 to update to IOS5 but only after countless "network connection failed" errors. but no matter how long i sit there pressing retry my ipad wont update. pro
i have no problems downloading anything with any other program or gaming consoles what so ever. its been years with this problem so i doubt they are going to give 2 craps about it now -
I've been unable to download Firefox updates or install Firefox versions higher than 3.6.8 over the top of the 3.6.8 version. I get an error message, saying I don't have permission to do so though I am the administrator of this computer. At one time, I mistakenly had two admistrator accounts and I think this is the core of the problem. In any case, I am unable to update or download newer Firefox versions (very frustrating). I'm running OSX 10.6.7 on an intel-based MacBook.

I am trying to sync a new iPhone 5. I updated iTunes as requested and now a message stating I need Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later. I can't seem to download that. Any ideas what I need to do?
If you are currently running Mac OS X 10.6 through 10.6.7, you should be able to update to 10.6.8 through Software Update.
If you are currently running Mac OS X 10.5.x or earlier, you need to buy the upgrade to 10.6 and update it to 10.6.8. Apple still sells 10.6, but only if you call them on the phone, and you can only buy it on a disc. Also, you need to make sure your Mac is new enough to run 10.6. -
