The new iTunes has totally destroyed all of the playlists on my iPhone and I need help.

After updating to the new iTunes I lost songs, I lost playlists and I lost control over my music library
in the iPhone. I am annoyed and frustrated

To ease use of the new iTunes these tips will revert it back to the iTunes 10 look and feel
View > Show Sidebar
View > Show Status Bar
Click on Black arrow in the search box and untick Search Entire Library
Your playlists should show up in the Left Hand panel beneath Devices
If you find you are still missing playlists off your computer itunes then

I know it sounds weird, and that is the reason I posted my question. Because my case is not like all the ones I've found online and it's confusing. I added a screen capture of my itunes with my old iphone (the one that houses my playlists) connected to it.
My playlists "ARE" in my iphone 4s. They are still there even though they do not show up when I plug in to itunes in my computer.
When connecting my phone to itunes on my macbook, the playlists do not appear anywhere in itunes. I have found my connected iphone icon, I have clicked on the arrow next to it and it does pull up the standard lists that come with the iphone/itunes: Music, Movies, TV shows, books. That's it! below that is "Genius" and below "Geniuns" is "PLAYLISTS" but the only playlist of mine that shows there is one that I created several years back titled "90's music" and that one I created it on my computer, not my phone. Under "90's music" there are also other standard playlists that itunes automatically adds.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to get around this. I am starting to think that I am going to have to recreate these lists on my computer

Does your wife sync her phone with a different computer or iTunes.
If so you need to copy that music to that iTunes
If she syncs with the same iTunes as you do just select your music and sync as normal

Transferred all from internal drive to external drive and now need help

I recently purchased an external hard drive to transfer allof my itunes music and folders to so it frees up my hard drive on my lap top. I followed the directions from apple to do this. When I purchased new songs this week, I plugged my ipod in and it did not take the new songs. It doesn't down load the new music.
I have been so frustrated with all of this that I am having such a hard time being able to enjoy my new ipod 30gb.

If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset - which will be by phone as they need to confirm your id and that it's your account

New itunes is trying to wipe the ipod. But have many many playlists (many hours making) which I want to save. Any help would be appreciated.

If you want to just extract the playlists from your iPod, plug it in iTunes. When it appears under devices, right->click on it and choose Export Playlists. Save them to a location such as your desktop and them import them into your library once you have copied and imported all of your music back into it.

I am having the same problem now also. It happened after I updated my version. I have NEVER had this problem before as a windows user and have had iTunes for 5 years. So, I would have to say it is an Apple problem. I have not changed anything on my computer. I still have Internet Explorer and I have not even updated windows. The only thing I updated was iTunes. Now, I am not getting any response from Apple and if you call you have to pay for support. What a joke. An iPod costs $400 you would think that after paying that much you would at least get some type of help. This will now be the last time I ever by anything apple.

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

I am a group exercise instructor and rely heavily on my playlists. My old phone is an iphone 4s and I just bought an Iphone 6. I also have a macbook where I keep my itunes account, but I create all my playlists on my phone. I need to transfer those playlists from my old iphone into itunes in my computer so that I can then add them to my new iphone 6. However, none of the playlists on my iphone appear when I connect to my macbook. I have read other threads where the suggestion was to attach the old phone to itunes, find the phone in itunes and click the little arrow to the left to show the playlists. Then right click on the playlist and export it, saving it to the desktop, to then import it into itunes. However, in my case, the playlists do not show up when the phone is connected to itunes. I have clicked on the little arrow and all I get is "music", "purchased", etc., but none of my playlists. If you have a backup, restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder to the computer. This restores the library and device association files. If for some reason you chose to only back up the media and not the entire iTunes folder, then the only option is to let iTunes wipe the drive and re-sync.

Also, once I figure out how to replace iCal with Outlook/Mac on iTunes, how do I synch the phone and pad so that the information on those devices over-writes onto Outlook as a backup, rather than having a blank Calendar on Outlook wipe out all of the information on the phone and pad???

If you haven't tried already, plug your devices into iTunes, and on each device next to the "Summary" tab at the top is another tab called "Info." Click that and scroll down to Contacts, Calendars, etc. There should be a pull down bar under each category for "Sync contacts from..." and you should be able to select from that pull down list Outlook. Hit Apply at the bottom and see if that does it.
