The new Magic Trackpad

Not sure if anyone here can answer this... Will the new Magic Trackpad work with the iPad? It is a Bluetooth accessory just like the keyboard but that obviously does not mean it will actually work with it. Also, does anyone here know how to ask Apple a question like this without having to Pay for it?

No it doesn't. Apple would have to create another OS. And it would take away the entire point of the touch screen.
If you had a keyboard and trackpad/ mouse, your better off buying the Mac. If you buy an iPad, you are buying a TOUCH SCREEN electronic if you don't want one once again buy a Mac.

  • Does the new magic trackpad comes with the Force Touch

    Hi
I want buy a new magic trackpad and I wonder does it come with the new "Force Touch" that has been recently introduced to a new MacBook?
    Thanks
    Save13

According to the article, there is no stand-alone trackpad with that new feature available at this time:
It makes some sense to imagine Apple will introduce support for Force Touch inside future versions of its $69 Magic Trackpad at some point. It is also likely Force Touch will be rolled out in future iOS devices.
And, according to the store page, they are still selling the regular trackpad (no mention of a new one):

  • Safari Quit Unexpectedly after new Magic Trackpad

Hello, I have an iMacG5 with Mac OS X Version 10.6.4. I purchased the new Magic Trackpad, updated my software and paired the Trackpad. In order to pair I had to download a fix for the OS because Trackpad was not showing up under System Preferences. Restarted the mac and it all worked fine. Next day after shutting down I started the mac and was no longer able to access Safari - I keep on getting "Safari Quit Unexpectedly". Below you can find the full error report. What can I do to be able to access safari? Thank you in advance for your help. Regards, Edward

    Welcome!
You may wish to adjust your computer description based on this line from your log:
    Model: iMac11,1, BootROM IM111.0034.B02, 4 processors, Intel Core i7, 2.8 GHz,
Instead of an iMac G5, you have an Intel iMac--and a very nice one--that is newer and more capable than the G5 iMacs. If you leave the old description and have a hardware question later, people could give you inapplicable advice because they think you have an older model.
Doesn't apply to your current Safari issue--that is not machine-specific--just a heads-up for future postings.

  • New Magic Trackpad: No Multitouch Gestures? System Sees "plain" trackpad?

I just installed a new Magic Trackpad on my work Mac Pro. I'm current on the OS (10.6.6) but after pairing the trackpad I get only the basic trackpad control panel.
I've also installed one at home on a similar system and did get the updated control panel with the gestures and movies, but don't see that here. I even installed the Magic Trackpad MultiTouch Update 1.0 and nothing improved.
Has anyone seen this behavior? Could it be bad hardware?

Good news and bad news.  I was having the same problem, came across this thread and saw the post about USB Overdrive incompatibility.  So good news, you've solved my problem too.  Bad news is that I can no longer use my Microsoft mouse (all the goofy buttons on it), but I guess that's the point of having the Magic Trackpad!  For what it's worth, I ~think~ that Microsoft Intellipoint will work with Magic Trackpad and give me back use of all those goofy buttons on my Microsoft Mouse at the same time, but your milage may vary.  Download Microsoft Intellipoint from Microsoft's website, and if it doesn't work or disables Magic Trackpad, remember this:
To uninstall Microsoft Intellipoint, open Spotlight (CMD-SPACE), type "uninstall" and you'll see "Intellipoint Uninstaller" listed.  Incidentally, that's the same way to uninstall USB Overdrive successfully too.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

  • New magic trackpad not scrolling and wiping.

i have a new magic trackpad, using it with my iMac. on my account it works, except for scrolling and wiping. as soon as i have two fingers on it the cursor is unmovable. (one, three, four fingers ok) the two fingers are the most important gestures. and they don't work. my magic mouse behalfs normally, scrolling and wiping ok.
on the account of my wife -same imac- the trackpad is working normally.
i tried to unmark and mark every item in the prefs. no succes.
    any ideas?

    Glad it working now!!
The preferences are set individually for each user on the Mac.  That way you can have one set of preferences and your wife can have her own.  That's why one worked and the other didn't.

  • New magic trackpad doesn't click.

New magic trackpad doesn't click or make a clicking noise, but does work on tap to click.
    Any suggestions?
    James

    Ok, Sorry.
    Thanks for your'e help.
Just found out that the mouse mat thats under my trackpad is stopping the legs compressing!
    Thanks you!

  • Anyone having an easy time w/ the new glass trackpad?

I'm really struggling with the new glass trackpad. I think I've mastered it one minute and then the next I'm selected text I didn't want to select or zooming in on something I didn't want to zoom in on. And then when I try to select text I get a contexual menu instead, etc, etc.
So my question is, is anyone having an easier time of it and if so could you share some tips? One thing I've already trained myself to do is to keep my thumb off the trackpad. With previous laptops I always kept my thumb on the trackpad button ready to click. That isn't possible now because it will mistake it as a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th finger.

    No problems at all...

  • IMac G5 iSight and the new Magic Mouse - WiFi dropping out.

The G5 with iSight seems to be unique amongst Apple computers, in that it shares the WiFi with the Bluetooth on a single compound card. I have not tested this out completely but it certainly seems to be the case that the Magic Mouse when left, having finished a session on the iMac, will after a few hours 'power down'. When it does so, sharing the WiFi, it will disable the wireless communication. I can find no known settings to avoid this from happening.
If I had dropped my iMac into sleep mode and woken it with a click of the mouse, all would be fine, however with my G5 downloading a file in the background, to come back and find the wireless has 'dropped out' is disconcerting to say the least.
Usually the WiFi can be re-established by turning it off and on again, then re finding my router (a TC in the other room) and all is well again for another 'period of time', which I can only guesstimate to be a couple of hours. However occasionally I will have to 'Restart' the iMac to get back to a working system. This is something I only ever really have to do with my work PC; I have NEVER had to do this on the iMac before. This is a quaint but annoying Windows thing and should not occur on a Mac. (This last phrase is slightly tongue in cheek!).
The WiFi link to my work PC via the TC is never compromised, which pointed the finger to the new magic mouse. I run the last version of Leopard for the PPC processors, 10.5.8 and have loaded the magic mouse driver software.
Has anyone else seen this happen?
Has anyone else got a solution, other than not using the Magic Mouse?

I did not see resetting PRAM mentioned yet, so if not done already, do that
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
plus this procedure to reset SMU (power management)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767
Be sure to follow it precisely. When you reconnect the power cord, if you are using a crowded or old power strip, connect it directly to a wall outlet for this test. Power it up with nothing connected except power cord and once it starts up, connect only your keyboard/mouse (no other USB/FireWire peripherals). Try using it that way to see if the problem still recurs.
The only other suggestion I have is, if you have a external FireWire drive that you can erase (or create a small partition on), install a fresh Leopard installation on it. Start up from it and see if this problem still recurs.
Alternately, back up your data, erase (re-partition and reformat) the interal drive, and reinstall Leopard on the internal drive, then give it a try. If you clone (using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper) to an external FireWire drive as your backup, you can still boot from your current installation (on the external drive). If the fresh installation test does NOT work, you can clone your clone back to the internal drive. If it does work with a fresh installation, you can keep using it and transfer just your user data back from the clone.

  • Apple new magic trackpad: Am I the only one who can't pinch zoom?

I'm tryung to zoom in or out using the pinch gesture in indesign CS5
it works fine on the built in trackpad of my laptop (10.5.8) but on the magic trackpad paired to my new Imac i5 (10.6.4) it doesn't.
    Any ideas anyone?

Well I've been up since 2am so I hope I get some sleep otherwise I'm going to turn on my iPad and stare at it without being able to read a word...or worse sleep right through FedEx coming by.
If I happened to have a working printer at the moment I think I'd put one of those pre-signed things on the door. Of course if it's a new driver, as seems to happen frequently, they'll have to call first since they can never find me anyway (I've tried to correct Google maps but the corrections never stay...the funny thing is before Google maps they never had a problem it was easy enough to figure out there was only one house with a number that high, the next closest house being like the equivalent of a block and a half away, but now if its not on the map it can't exist). And yes I've tried putting various signs with the address down on the road but with the high winds, heavy snows, snow plows etc. they never last long or just aren't noticed even when painted in bright red . OK are you asleep yet??? No, okay well then let me again thank Apple for not doing Saturday delivery which isn't available here. That do the trick? Sorry don't know how to be more boring. Well unless you want to talk about Object C or something .

  • 2 thoughts on the new glass trackpad

    1. I am having a lot of problems "pinching" to zoom in and out, and to rotate. The trackpad does not respond as well as my iphone does. It sometimes takes several tries to get something to embiggen.
    2. I do not really like the sound or feel of the trackpad when i click it. i think you amazing designers should look to the Powerbook G4 (aluminum) trackpad's button. I think the feel and sound of that button was the best i have ever used.

I'm new to Mac. I've had my new Macbook for two weeks now??? I forget: time's been flying! It *****, I see people having problems with theirs--and all I have to say is my machine works perfect. I have no complaints. My trackpad works great. Granted I don't really pinch a lot, but every time I use it it works without effort.
I seriously have had no problems. I don't do serious hardcore stuff like video editing, but it works a lot better than my last HP which was running Vista. I mostly do internet research, Keynote, and Page work. Great computer. Fast and simple. I can't believe I already know how to do things on a Mac better than PC. I used PC's my whole life! Macs are too easy to learn. Keynote is freaking great. I can't believe I can do presentations that blow MS OFFICE slideshows out of the water.
I hope all of your problems get fixed.

  • How's the new Magic Mouse?

Specifically the tracking? Thinking of getting one when they become available this week but would appreciate some iMac people feedback first. I'm a designer so good tracking and preciseness are pretty important.
Currently have the might mouse and hardly use as tracking is so poor... assume it has a lot to do with the bluetooth connection.
    Thanks.

I also found the wireless version of the Mighty Mouse to have poor tracking, while the USB version of the Mighty Mouse to have great tracking The Magic Mouse tracks as good as the USB Mighty Mouse. I do miss the center button (Dashboard) and side button (Exposé), but at least there are dedicated keys for both on the keyboard.

  • I have a question about the new Magic mouse and wireless keyboard.

Just wondering. My computer is in my kitchen, against a wall, and connected to my t.v. directly on the other side of this wall in my living room. My question is this, can I use the wireless mouse and keyboard with the computer in the living room, through the wall, while mirroring the screens? Hope this makes sense. In other words, will the magic mouse and keyboard have the strength of range to connect through the wall. Thanks.

It depends on how far it is and how thick your walls are. If there plasterboard partitions and only 10 feet apart then probably.
If you have a mobile phone with bluetooth, then try sending the computer a picture of file from similar distances to that you intend using the keyboard, if it works then a bluetooth keyboard and mouse should.

  • Is there a way to control the Magic Trackpad scrolling speed?

I just got the new magic Trackpad.
I am finding the speed of scrolling in window to be quite fast such that I it goes to far. Is there anyway to control the speed of it so it does not go to fast?
Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

I haven't received my MTP yet but if it works like the trackpad on my MBP you just don't flick your finger so fast. The speed is governed by how quickly you move your finger across the surface which is something I find very cool because it puts me in total control.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • Magic Trackpad won't work with Magic Mouse on brand new 2011 27" i5 iMac

I have a brand new 2011 27" i5 iMac which I bought with Snow Leopard pre-loaded. Naturally, I included the new Magic Trackpad in my purchase, and though there were some problems with the device in SL - such as it going haywire without explanation - it generally worked, although battery levels were erratic (one day 80%, then an hour later 42%, then 80% again).
When I installed Lion I did a clean install after backing up to Time Machine - and a Super Dupered external drive. I had some difficulties trying to install Lion from an external flash drive so I deleted again and reinstalled SL, then reinstalled over the SL install I did (with no other software except Mac OS X 10.6.8 and other system updates to facilitate install). Rather than copying apps from my old SL drive, I downloaded fresh copies and reinstalled one by one. I don't use a lot of apps apart from Microsoft Office, browsers and iLife and have not installed any additional scripts, extensions or add-ons (like USB Overdrive). It's a pretty clean install.
Since then, although I'm generally happy with Lion, the Magic Trackpad won't work! It does work for a little while with basic gestures - mainly moving the cursor and scrolling - then it gives up the ghost and loses connectivity. I have done the following:
Disconnected and reconnected the MTP after turning it on and off. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Shut the computer down, pulled out the plug, waited two minutes, then started up again. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Run Onyx, shut down computer, then pulled out plug (see above).
Checked options in Universal Access, shut off "Ignore other devices when trackpad in use" (or whatever the option is). MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
Turned off the Magic Mouse. MTP works for about two minutes, goes crazy then no response.
But none of this seems to work! I know the MTP is connected because I can see it in the BT menu in the menu bar and also in System Preferences. I have noticed since upgrading that my permissions - which when I bought the computer were totally clean - now run lines and lines about "Library/Core Services" so I am unsure whether this is related. I also notice a lot of people are in the same boat as me, which makes me wonder if it's either a hardware issue or a release issue - after a week or so of totally silent running, my 2TB Hitachi HDD started up with the grumbly tum. I'd really appreciate any tips from anyone out there!

    Hi, marksaner
You could try installing the latest version of the Synaptics driver. Synaptics is the company that makes the UltraNav driver and drivers for many other computer brands. This driver should have the same functionality as the UltraNav driver, so there's no worry there. You can find the driver here.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • Magic trackpad and iPad?

This may be too soon to ask but does anyone know if the new magic trackpad will link to iPad?

To introduce the trackpad or a mouse as a pointing device should be rather simple. Compare the Wacom Bamboo pad. It maps the screen onto the pad, so that pointing at the pad has the same effect as pointing at the screen. The same should be possible with the magic trackpad. The cursor has little to do with it, but of course there are many apps that have one (webform, pages,...). I think it is an omission that we may link a keypad to the iPad but not a pointing device. Without one the docking station is quite useless.
