The New Media Sync Concept

Hi,
I love my BB and recently updated to the latest version of the Desktop Management Software. It all looks good and it is visually quite a significant upgrade...but the Media Sync functionality unusable.
I am not particularly fond of the new way to sync media (comes with Desktop Software 6)with your phone. Where the hell is Roxio Media Manager? This new method is not sufficient enough and downright unusable. I will now add media to my phone using my BB as a flashdrive. How do you manage what is on your phone and who decided that this 'sync' way is the best way to move forward?
Can I downgrade back to Desktop Manager version 5? This is a horrible, HORRIBLE way to get media on your phone.

Hi.
I agree completely with your statements. Aparently this is the way RIM wants us to handle our Media and when contacted simply state that this is the designed functionality.
I assume that with all the negative feedback they are getting, they will send an update which provides more flexibility, including bringing back the ability to handle encrypted media files.
You can revert back to 5.0.1 by unistalling 6.0 and reinstalling 5.0.1. The software is readily available in the support section of this website.

  • Have iTunes version 10 .3 but do not understand cloud in iTunes 11.03 can someone explain it and also how do you find duplicates in new version and will the new version sync with my iPod Classic which I have had for 4 years

I have iTunes version 10.03 which I love but my iPad Apple mini has iOS 7 but I don't understand the new iTunes what is the cloud shown next to the music and how can I find duplicates can anyone help me navigate the new iTunes and will the new version sync with my iPod Classic which is 4 years old

The main differences between iTunes 11 and earlier versions are the loss of coverflow and ability to have multiple windows open.
In Windows, you can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
With iTunes 11.0.3 and later you can enable artwork in the Songs view from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view
View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) also contains options to change the sorting of grid based views
The cloud icons give you access to stream or download any qualifying past purchases that you don't currently have downloaded to the library.
Regarding duplicates, things haven't really changed. Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)
Yes, iTunes 11 will support your iPod classic.

i have a new computer from my father that already has his iphone content on it.  what do i need to do to switch my phone over from my old computer to the new one and have the new computer sync MY contacts and content to the new computer without erasing my contact lists and purchased apps?

okay from reading posts it seems if I transfer my backed up info from my old comp to the new one and erase my dad's phone's back up i could reset my phone and it would transfer all my old data back onto the phone, be linked to the new computer and i could proceed.  Where do i find the backed up info from my phone?

  • Why does the new firefox sync not sync my bookmarks on my Iphone? The history and tabs show up, but bookmarks do not.

Ever since I updated to the new Firefox sync my bookmarks have stopped showing up on my iphone Sync for Firefox. I even downloaded the Apollo browser, but bookmarks still are not showing. Can someone help?

Firefox 29 has a new version of Sync, so whatever you're using on the iPhone for Sync will need to be updated to be compatible with the new Sync.

  • I have moved itunes library to external drive as per support article. Every time I know open itunes I have to re-direct it to the new media location on the external drive. Is there a way to retain the location?

I followed the instructions on the support website exactly to transfer my media to an external hard drive (a network attached storage device), it worked immediately. When I quit itunes and re-open it, the library location has reset to the old location, I can change it to the new location and it works but the next time I log in its back to the wrong place.
Has anybody got any idea how to prevent this from re-occurring?

i also just move my library to a NAS. i suggest you do this:
launch iTunes and point iTunes media folder location to the volume/shared folder on NAS. quit iTunes.
copy the iTunes folder from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music to the NAS.
launch iTunes while holding option (⌥) and click on choose library when prompted. select the iTunes folder you just moved to the NAS.
you must make sure the volume/shared folder on the NAS is mounted on your desktop before launching iTunes but from now on the media folder location should stick (it does for me).

  • I installed the new firefox sync on my two computers, but the bookmarks are not synchronising. How do I solve it?

    Hello,
I recently installed the new version of firefox sync on my computers (by unlinking the old version, and creating a new account), but the bookmarks are not synchronising. One of the computer turns with Windows 7 and the other with Ubuntu 14.
I created the account with the firefox on the Windows computer, and some things were well synchronized on the Linux computer (ie Addblock was installed), but the bookmarks on the Linux firefox are empty.
Could you please help me to solve this problem?
    Thank you very much.

Type '''about:sync-log''' in the URL bar and hit Enter.
Do you have any Error Reports?
If so, open the most recent report (check the date to make sure it is from the new version of Sync). Then copy and paste the contents of that report to http://pastebin.com/ and post the URL to "your New Paste" to this forum thread so that we can review that error log.
''Edit - whoops'', start with the Windows PC, then the Ubuntu box.

  • New Media Sync dies part way through transfer

I took the update to MediaSync since I was looking for the new iTunes cover art feature.  I did a normal sync and all my unprotected music made it to the BlackBerry.  I then checked to import all the iTunes cover and then started the sync again.  This time it died with a Windows pop-up window on the 1081th file.  Thinking it might have been a bad file (or related to the file) I removed that file from iTunes and tried again.  Failed on 1081 again.  One more time removing a file and it still failed on 1081.  Put the two file back and thought I would see if others are having a similar issue.
    Anyone?
    Eric

I'm getting the same type of error.  I have tried multiple times to import the iTunes album art and each time I get to file 588/1110 and the application crashes.  I am using Windows Vista and the problem details that I am getting are:

  • ICal, 10.5.6, MobileMe & the new Automatic Sync Features

when I read the release notes for 10.5.6 and saw that they had finally (/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png) got ical to sync "instantly" from computer to computer in any direction, I knew it was time to download. Did the install on both mine & my Fiancé's machine, set up the MobileMe System preferences to sync changes "Automatically," and almost instantly noticed that iCal was taking up inordinate amounts of RAM. My machine has 4GB, hers has 2GB, both Intel C2D 2.2Ghz MacBooks, and it would swallow up all available RAM on either one (we're talking like 3.2GB on my machine), and then become unresponsive and require a force-quit. starting iCal again would result in the same behavior every time, at some point it would suddenly spike in RAM usage, take everything the system had and not relinquish it, and become unresponsive while pinning the CPU usage at 98% or so.
I troubleshot for awhile and eventually noticed that there was one To Do item that was not syncing changes from one machine to the next. So I deleted it, turned of syncing on both machines, and then reset the sync data from one machine to MobileMe, and then reset those changes again from MobileMe to the other machine.
Presto-change-O, suddenly iCal would sit idle with only 25-50MB of RAM, and not ever spike out for days at a time. I was pretty sure it was a corrupt event file or something, and it had been flushed out and we were fine going forward. Until last night, that is.
I was dragging some highlighted text out of safari and my path crossed over iCal on my way to the target program window. iCal then proceeded to freeze and quit unexpectedly. We know what happened next, right? I restarted iCal and we're back in the same boat as before, with it taking up ALL available system RAM, slowing the computer down and pinning the CPU to 98% and requiring force-quits. ON BOTH MACHINES, even though ONLY mine crashed.
The same procedure used the first time seems to have fixed the issue once again for me, so as long as iCal doesn't CRASH again on me (or her), I suspect we'll be fine.
So this is a word of warning & a helpful tip on how to recover: if you notice iCal is taking up more RAM than an idle calendaring program should be taking up, and you've enabled mobileme syncing (and perhaps set it up to sync changes Automatically in the System Preferences Pane), try the steps I did, it should restore iCal to normal behavior, at least until the next crash cycle.
    1) Turn off syncing on both machines
    2) delete both machines from the sync registry in the Advanaced Tab in the MobileMe Sync System Preferences pane
    3) reinstate syncing from one machine, preferably the one with the data you trust the most.
    4) from the same advanced Tab, select "Reset Sync Data" and have it push the changes from the computer to MobileMe ("the Cloud")
    5) sync the desired stuff (calendar, contacts, etc)
    6) let stand for 10 minutes before serving
    7) from the other machine, reinstate syncing, and from the Advanced options in the MobileMe system preferences, reset sync data BUT THIS TIME, have the data from mobileme pushed to the computer. This should ensure that the data is definitely the same across both machines.
    8) sync.
    9) serves a family of 4 :-D

Wondered if you are still having the problem. My iCal with two Macs via MobileMe doesn't work properly when set to automatic. I have seen 4 GB of virtual memory used, an RSIZE of 850 MB and a "not responding" in excess of 5 minutes.
I gave up on automatic and set it to sync every hour. My memory usage is now reasonable and iCal always responds.
I did find a problem with my iCal when trying to sync to a Blackberry but even after fixing this the automatic sync mode overwhelms the RAM.
I noticed in the logs that when in automatic there are 3 changes every 30 seconds in iCal - nothing real is changing - just the sync wants to change them constantly. This seems to slowly increase RAM usage and then suddenly after may hours there is an explosion of RAM usage and iCal becomes useless again.
So far (10 days) the 1 hour sync seems to work. I figure I can always say sync now if I made a lot of changes that I want the other systems to see. My iPod Touch seems to work much better at keeping in sync!

  • General Comment - Looking forward to the new CC Sync

I just read the blog announcing the pre-release of the revised CC sync utility and am looking forward to it... especially after what happened today with my SkyDrive account.
This morning I began working on a Word 2013 document, autosaving every 10 minutes and randomly manually saving as well with a few keystrokes... and some 6 hours later the screen flickered, SkyDrive refreshed or something along that line, and all of the work I performed today disappeared and was not recoverable.
The beta CC Sync that was released last year regularily created duplicate copies of files on my local drive and on the Adobe Cloud. At that time, I was somewhat annoyed by the redundancy, but after today, hope that feature will remain.
After my loss today, I would much rather set aside a few moments to manually control the deletion of redundant files than dedicate an additional six hours to re-writing and re-editing everything that was lost in some upload mishap.

I am sure most ALL the paying Creative Cloud subscribing customers are looking forward to actually using the advertised features that they have been paying for but have not been available for use. Maybe the "Coming Soon" has finally arrived months later and the silence will be broken. Rejoice CC users your payments were not in vain, you will soon be able to use the advertised features. Let's just hope the wait was worth it and the same issues that plague CC in general that are rampant for CC users as seen on the forum here don't creep into these features with there own reoccurring issues. One would think given the delay Adobe would hopefully get it right and it wont be yet another public beta that gets pulled as before.

  • The new media player is total c

The media player is really bad... very frustrating how they've taken a very nicely set up media player ( 2.o original with audigy 2zc. ) and totally made it into this worthless crap... that cant even make a continuous play list w/o reseting itself.....
Among that is the most dumb thing ever.. i add a song... and few minute later i have it with NO TITTLE? WTF? seriously.. how does a song not have a name.. its named something..
this is some poor piece of **bleep** software from creative.. i guess im gonna have to start using winamp or windows... since this is even **bleep**tier than windows!

Alright, that's enough, leave out the bad language in future.
Can you explain what you're referring to Is it MediaSource you're using?

  • When you use the Windows Media Sync to down load music from the PC to the Razr?

What folder is the music stored in? I can see the music on my phone under My Music but I cannot see it on the V CAST Media Manager.

It really depends on how you got the music on there in the first place.  Usually, I think, it goes into a music folder.  Also, make sure to check both the SD card and internal storage.

  • Media Sync: Missing Reminders for Calendar Sync

So far the only problem I have with the new Media Sync is that the calendar syncs but doesn't add reminders on the phone. Is this supposed to happen or is it a feature that hasn't been implemented yet?
I use the latest Mac OS: 10.6
    My BB's OS: 4.2.1.107

Overall, I think the Mac OS BB Desktop Manager is very poorly done.  Shame on RIM for having released this at this stage - it's a joke.  My staff are having a TON of issues syncing.
I remember RIM pushing back the release date, but people kept asking for Desktop Manager for Mac ASAP and so RIM delivered. Like most v1.0 software, it's bug ridden, so we have to trust developers to patch up the software as users discover them.
My strife is that it's very obscure as to how to submit bugs or at least communicate with the developers. This forum is a great solution, but I haven't had a reply from any developers.

  • Error on Media Sync 3.0 Install - Unsupported Operating System

I am having problems installing the new version of media sync on my computer running Windows XP Pro SP3 (v.3311). After it unpacks the files and begins to run the installation wizard, I receive a message that says I am trying to install it on a computer w/ a unsupported operating system. Here is what I have done to try to fix the problem:
    1) I have re-downloaded the installation file from Blackberry multiple times over a span of days
    2) I have tried to download an install through the check for updates feature in my current version of media sync
    3) I have tried uninstalling media sync and rebooting my computer and then trying to install the new version
    4) I saw in one post in another Blackberry forum that you need to be on the highest release of v. 2. I downloaded as instructed and when trying to install it I also get the unsupported operating system message
I have run out of attempts I can think of, and have searched Blackberry, Crackberry, and Google for a solution.
Has anyone figured out anything yet on this one?
P.S. -- I know that some have successfully installed the new Media Sync on their computers running XP w/ SP3. So there is not need to reply letting me know you did not have a problem installing it.
Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

Your Microsoft Windows Xp SP3 version value in the registry may be inconsistent or missing ...
     - Please navigate to the following tree in the registry editor and paste the value for "CSDVersion"
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
The regkey can be accessed by searching for 'CSDVersion' in the registry editor or you could follow the steps below.
    (1) Click 'Start' > choose 'Run'
    (2) type 'regedit' in the run window and click 'ok'. This will open the registry editor
    (3) Navigate the tree to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion'
    (4) look in the left side pane and locate 'CSDVersion' and its value.
And how did your upgrade to SP3 happen? Did it come preinstalled on your machine or have you upgraded it by downloading upgrades from the internet.
