Welcome to the new Oracle User Group Community
Welcome to the new Oracle User Group Community. Whether you landed here via the redirect from the previous community site - IOUC.org - or navigated here directly, welcome. This new platform brings new community features to enhance the way you connect with user group peers and with Oracle, as well as make it easier for you to find information through a more intuitive interface. We invite you to provide your feedback on the new site. Log in using your OTN Forum credentials and join the discussion here. If you do not yet have OTN Forum log in credentials, navigate to http://community.oracle.com/community, click on the "Register" link in the upper right corner of the page and create your account.
We look forward to hearing from you.Hi Kashif,
Glad you like the new Community. Communication among user group leaders works a little differently on this site than on the previous site. Rather than having communication focus around e-mail distribution lists, communication now is focused within the site itself. The intent is that this will provide users the one place to come for information, rather than having to sort through lots of e-mail threads. That doesn't mean that e-mail is completely out of the picture though. Users can opt-in to receive e-mail notifications when an individual piece of content is changed, or when content is posted to a space. Look for the "Receive email notifications" link under "Actions" to start receiving notices. To stop receiving notices, go back to the same content/space and click "Stop email notifications".
Your Relationship Manager will be talking with you and the other leaders in your region over the next few days and weeks regarding how you and your group of leaders want to communicate.
Best regards,
Oracle User Group Team -
I have the new Oracle 8i installer and here is why
I have been trying to get Oracle 8i on Linux and I feel that I
must share
my thoughts on the new Oracle installer with everybody.
I hate the new installer. I used to run the installer from
home over my
128Kbps connection while I was connected to the office machines,
because it
was simple text based. And Oracle 8i has changed all that!
I have nothing against GUI based installers, only when they have
a little too
many animated images that eat up bandwidth. I had to drive all
the way to
the office because I did not have sufficient bandwidth to display
the darn
ringing bell animated image. This is strictly the mentality of
Windows users
who like to work on the console of servers.
And check this out:
line 118 in my install log file at :
/usr/local/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log
says :
platGroup = WINDOWS
And this is on Linux!!! Maybe the Oracle folks are forgetting
that Linux
users are a little too sensitive to these kind of mistakes. :)
This also supports my theory that the new installer is a gift
from Windows
programmers. Who are not too familiar with the idea of being
able to send
their video display to any computer around the world and work
from there.
A feature every Linux user takes for granted
There are numerous other bugs in the installer and other routines
of Oracle
8i for Linux. Some of them I will list here:
2. The installation types screen list 3 options:
Typical, Minimal and Custom.
Somehow Minimal takes more disk space (642 MB) compared to
Typical (585 MB).
Well that is what the installation screen says. I have not tried
to install
using the minimal install.
3. The installation cant figure out how much free space is
available on the /
partition. Is it that hard? Its gives warnings about how I may
not have
enough space.
4. dbassist cant find the cdrom if you try to install the default
database
from CDROM. It says cannot find CDROM even if you have all your
stuff under
/mnt/cdrom
5. The docs talk about software mount points and data mount
points /u01 /u02
/u03 and /u04 that I created, but I could not find anywhere to
specify them
like I was able to, with the last release.
6. "Oracle Protocol Support" section during the install shows no
options at
all. What happened to good ole Net8?
And many others. This product is a joke.

nullMy sentiments exactly. There are so many bugs in the
installation of this release that I have just about given up.
And I haven't even started testing the new features yet!
I've tried the install on RedHat 6.0 straight out of the box (no
patches or updates applied) and followed the OIG and release
notes to the letter. Clearly, no one at Oracle did the same,
because there are many problems during install. I finally got a
simple database running, but there are some real gotcha's along
the way.
Here are just a few of the bugs I've encountered:
1. Zero length library file $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libnjni8.so.
Netasst doesn't work without it. Someone said they posted the
source code to the comp.databases.oracle.server newsgroup, but I
can't find it.
2. Database Creation Assistant thinks dbmssql.sql is called
dbmssml.sql.
3. Building the Intelligent Agent with TCL 7.5 causes a cascade
of undefined references when running gmake -f ins_oemagent.mk
agent
4. Database Creation Assistant doesn't understand OFA. It wants
to put all of the database files /u01/app/oracle/oradata/<sid> !
5. Database Creation Assistant will sometimes prevent editing
the data file names to put them in OFA compliant directories.
I am appreciative of the free developer licenses for so many
Oracle products, but this is the worst Oracle install I've had
in 12 years.

Trouble Installing the new Oracle BPM 11g Feature Pack (FP4)
I'm trying to install the new feature pack that just came out on and I'm curious if anyone has successfully installed it on a Windows 64 bit machine.
Although the blog post by Jan Kettenis (http://kettenisblogs.blogspot.com/2011/09/tips-for-installing-oracle-bpm-suite.html) was helpful, when I get to the step to run %ORACLE_HOME%/OPatch/opatch napply from the command line, I get the error shown below.

3. Apply the PS4FP
The issue was because I was installing Jdev in the same Oracle home “C:\Oracle\Middleware” after step 2 before applying the PS4FP. This corrupted the oracle_common inventory
A quick way to verify whether your inventory is corrupted is to check the following files:
• C:\Oracle\Middleware\oracle_common\inventory\ContentsXML\comps.xml (should be more than approx 2500 lines before patching)
• C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_SOA1\inventory\ContentsXML\comps.xml (should be more than approx 1600 lines before patching)

Hi,
I just saw a new beta exam show up today (Thursday, April 23th) on Pearson Vue called
1z1-006 Oracle Database Foundations?
Is this an OCA, OCP, OCE, or OCS?
Is this exam for teaching?
Is this exam for design.
Help me
RogerI guess exam content is speculation (unless insider knowledge is available ... in which case an NDA would be in force) until Oracle publishes some information, and perhaps until we can see the exam topics.
In essence Pearson Vue knows nothing about how exams link to form certifications, however it's website can sometimes get exam scheduling updates a little before they arrive on the oracle website.
Any information from Oracle is likely to appear here: New and Upcoming Releases
... or if/when this link becomes active: Exam 1Z0-106 (NB: wrong link ... Matthew has a good link above)
.... And I guess an Oracle Certification blog entry too will be likely.
.... Various people have on this forum commented on the downsides of 1z0-051/1z0-061 as an entry point into Oracle RDBMS Database with 'SQL' rather than 'RDBMS' being the focus point. ( IMHO These exams do a good job of examining Oracle SQL .... ).
If non database (Oracle Enterprise) specific if would also be applicable to MySQL, RDB, .... etc).
It will be interesting to see how and where Oracle views where this exam will sit, who its target candidates are and what certification(s) it will participate in ..... I Codd you not !
Added 03may2015: Realised some glaring deficiencies in this post by getting the code mixed up between 1z0-106/1z0-006 .... any that Matthew had gvien the correct link earlier! I have only just pulled my head out of the bucket. -
The New Oracle JDeveloper 11g R1 (11.1.1.1.0) is Now Available
Yes... very good. Unfortunately though, it seems fussy about which version of the latest JDK WebLogic uses (on Windows that is). 1.6.0_14 throws "was unexpected at this time" ... So I guess I'll reinstall with the bundled JDK.
Works fine on Linux and OSX though using local JDKs.
More importantly for me... OSX.. as that's my main platform, as that had real problems with the last version. Running out of memory and all sorts... really frustrating. I was very close to throwing in the towel and going back to .NET. So far it 'seems' ok. I'll post any problems I encounter.Hi,
In previous versions i had no problems but with the new 11.1.1.1.0 version i can not get updates. If i go to Help -> Check for Updates and click next i get an error that JDev can not connect to the Internet. If i click cancel the details link shows the following error stack:

All other internet traffic is no problem and the previous jdev release can connect without a problem. If i add www.oracle.com to my /etc/hosts file i does work but then i can not login to otn in the next steps. Any ideas?

Hello,
Oracle has released the new patch set 11.2.0.2.0 for Oracle Database whose installation deviates from the previous patch set instructions. Are there any new deployment procedures available to do an in-place upgrade? We have a lot (about 100) of development databases here, most of them do not have enough hard disk space to do an out-of-place upgrade, so the need for updated deployment procedures is definetely there.
Best regards,
AndreasHello Hemss,
I am trying to do an in-place-upgrade (replacing the old Oracle software completely because our test servers have only very little space). When you want to perform an out-of-place upgrade, things are more simple, but you need the disk space for a new Oracle home (about 6 GB on Linux-x64 in my case). Essentially, the steps are:
1. You can keep the production database online during the next steps
2. Install the new 11.2.0.2.0 into a new Oracle Home (an Oracle software directory which does not exist yet). Only install the software.
3. Apply any post-11.2.0.2.0 patches if available and needed
4. Schedule a maintenance window with your users
5. Put the original database(s) in MOUNT mode (SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE followed by STARTUP MOUNT)
6. Perform a FULL backup of both database and old Oracle home, just to be on the safe side.
7. Set your enviromnent: ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE should point to your NEW installation, ORACLE_SID to your production database.
8. Start netca to create a new LISTENER for your new software installation (you might want to use a different port than your previous installation in case you need to run both at the same time)
9. Start dbua from the new Oracle Home and follow the on-screen instructions. You can either create an updated copy of the database (needs more disk space but you can easily switch back to your orginal DB), or you change the database to fit your new Oracle version (needs less space, but you need to run the scripts to downgrade to the old release if you need to go back)
So, as long as you have plenty of disk space, things are not that difficult at all. Of course, you should always read the release notes and the full installation guides for the new version because there might be new features or behaviours that affect your database. It is also highly advisable to test this on a completely different machine first.
You can find the complete upgrade guide here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17222/toc.htm
Best regards,

New Oracle User Report...
Ok so here's an easy one for you lovely people. I have a need to run a report that will show all the new Oracle users created from Jan 1, 2007. I'm not sure where I would pull this information from. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
LukeHi, you can get this information from DBA_USERS view, something like this.
SELECT * FROM DBA_USERS WHERE TRUNC(CREATED)>=TO_DATE('DD/MM/YYY','01/01/2007')
Good luck.

Standard Username an Password for the new Release2 As Portal?
i have installed the Applicationserver Release2 with Portal , but i can not access to the Portal with the Standard Username and Password , i need the new Standard username and Password for the new Oracle Portal(Release2)
the same Problem is with the Standard Username and Password for the iasdb (IAS Database on the Infrastructure Server !)
thanx
Saleh MataniHi,
You are facing strange problems with SDN :). May be connection at your end is too slow..
For the problem:
It seems you need a login password page. If this is your reuirement. Simple solution is create a page with two labels, two input fields, save and reset buttons. The login/pwd on submitted with validated by quering the database. Is your question - how to query the database ?
May be you can create a javabean to do that (you can use jdbc for logic). Later import the JavaBean as JavaBeanModel in Web Dynpro. Map the model to context in the view and use the context.

Configuring New Oracle Database with HFM Shared Services
Hi,
We have upgrated the oracle database to new version 11g. We are using HFM 11.1.1.3 version. When I tried to configure the new oracle database with existing HFM Shared Services, the EPM Configurator hangs. Please could you clarify the below few questions before start configuring the database.
1. Do we want edit any properties or configuration files before starting the EPM Configurator?
2. If we want to edit the reg.properties file, what is the password denotes in reg.properties file(Below is the structure of the reg.properties file)? Whether I need to give Oracle database schema password?
jdbc.url=jdbc\:hyperion\:oracle\://xxxxx;
password=?
jdbc.driver=hyperion.jdbc.oracle.OracleDriver
local.value=####
username=schemaname
Thanks,
Aravindh KIs it a new database server you are trying to configure? As if it was just upgraded then you shouldnt need to do anything.
If it is a new database server then have a read of the following doc in Oracle Support - "How To Change Shared Services Database Repository in EPM 11 [ID 976279.1]"
Cheers
