The new revision 8.1

SSo, with the new revision of iOS 8.1 that was put out to day. Is anyone having more problems with their iPads? Should I download the forum?

I'm running an iPad 4, too and with no problems. Now, what that means for "you" is that it's technically feasible for iOS 8.1 to run fine on an iPad 4. If it wasn't okay, then it would not be running on any of them. Therefore, you'll just have to keep going down the troubleshooting trail. And I noticed that you said you had been through several processes before ... but there is one process that I'm not sure you have done yet. Have you reset your iPad 4 to factory default through your iTunes program and NOT restored your backup? In other words, left your iPad 4 in the same state it was in, before you ever added any of your data or any of your apps?
That's a troubleshooting methodology in which you'll see if that iPad 4 runs as its supposed to "right off the factory floor" so to speak, and before you ever start using it for your own stuff. I would verify that iPad 4 in that condition first, before going any further with it.
Here are the links I've put up for doing that (including doing your backups).

  • Can RAM for the previous Mac Pros be used in the new revisions?

    I ordered a Mac Pro last month along with 2 4GB RAM kits from Crucial (see details below)
    4GB kit (2GBx2), 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module
    Module Size: 4GB kit (2GBx2)
    Package: 240-pin DIMM
    Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
    Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Fully Buffered • ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 72
    The RAM has arrived but the Mac Pro is yet to ship and today I received an email from Apple I can:
    1. Keep your original Mac Pro order at the same price.
    2. Cancel this order and place an order for the new Mac Pro.
    The RAM kits cost me £360 already so i hope i can use use the sticks in the new machine. Anyone know the answer to this? Before I decide what to do.

    Crucial should be understanding, one of the best in customer support - and satisfaction. And most likely to have worked with Apple to have chips.

  • Logic Board Replacement - Older or Newer Revision?

    I recently took my 2008 MBP Unibody in for a checkup due to a few issues I was having and they have shipped it out to have the logic board replaced. However, I was wondering if they still keep logic boards from the very first MBP Unibody around or if I would perhaps be getting a newer revision?
    My interest in this lies in that the first revision supported SATA 1.5 and I would love for my SSD to be better utilized with one of the newer revisions.
    Any ideas or thoughts? Has anyone else has any experiences?

    Yes, they do, up to a certain point. What that point is, I don't know, but I'm sure it's three years (AppleCare), and maybe a bit beyond.

  • I use iBookAuthor to make a textbook for my students; I revised it, including title page, but when I export it and upload it to my iPad, the old title page appears, even though I've deleted the older version of the text before I upload the new one.

    Last year I produced a textbook using iBookAuthor for my students. I exported it as an iBook and they uploaded it to their iPads. This year, I revised it, including revising the title page. However, when I upload the new version, the old title page is shown, not the new one. I deleted the older version of the textbook before I did this. I've been told that I can cut and paste each revised chapter into a new template and that will work; however, title page and glossary can't be cut and pasted. Any thoughts for getting the entire new version on the iPad? I'm also told that if it is uploaded to an iPad that never had a previous version of this textbook, it will upload correctly. But my iPad has had several older versions, now deleted.

    I had a similar issue when trying to create an iBook file to submit for course credit for one of the Apple Learning Essentials classes I took. I had a book I'd started previously which I updated and submitted, and then had to make some edits to for the course evaluator. I made the edits, and when I previewed the book in iBooks Author, it looked correct, but whatever I sent to him only showed some of the edits - for example a new page I created was there, but some edits I made to image captions and the title page image were not.
    What worked for me was to do a "Save as" of the actual Author file to a totally new location (I used the Desktop), and then submit that file - which seemed to work in terms of the changes sticking. I even used the same file name.
    I'm not sure if some similar action might help you (maybe change the file name slightly?) or if you've already tried something like this.
    Still doesn't change the fact that this is a pretty irritating bug.

  • New Revision of the eMAC

    Is Apple going to release a new revision of the eMAC with the Intel chip to the general public or a smaller & cheaper 17" iMAC ? I really like the compact design of both eMAC & its bigger brother iMAC, but do not the price of the bigger iMAC.

    The iTunes store now requires a 'new' agree to accept the Apples revised "T&C's"; but, there is NO 'agree' button to accept the revised text.

    If you are seeing the Ts & Cs link in the Downloads tab in the iTunes app then that just means that you don't have any outstanding/queued downloaded (they are there for info only) - your film should have downloaded into the Videos app (iTunes on the iPad is just the iTunes store)

  • Does anyone else have issues with Verizon LTE service on the new iPad?

    I have the new iPad. I have noticed that issues with the LTE signal have gotten progressively worse. When my iPad is sitting in 1 spot it will switch from 3 bars, to no service, to 3 bars, and so fourth. I might be on a website, or in an app that is using data and it works great. Then at random it says No Service again. I just added my iPad to my Verizon account with their new family data plan, so they sent me a brand new SIM card. I feel like I can rule that out.
    I just want to know if anybody else has an issue with their iPad dropping service at random and jumping all over the board. I also have an iPhone on Verizon and it is with me always, I never have this problem with the iPhone. My iPad will say No Service but my iPhone will show nearly full service.
    Just to add, I have switched off LTE for periods of time to see if things change. (that way both my iPhone and iPad are on 3G so I can compare) Things are no different when just running LTE.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am under warrenty and I have Apple Care. I hate taking stuff in and replacing it if I don't need to.
    I am also signed up with a developer account through Apple, and my iPad has iOS 6 beta. This problem did not start with the beta software. It was the case before and after. I guess I was hoping if it was an issue Apple would address it with one of the revisions in iOS 6, but now I am starting to wonder if it is hardware.
    Thank you.

  • I like the new rapid release, but I don't like how it's done.

    Hello Firefox users.
    I have a suggestion for your rapid release program. Ever since Firefox 2, I have been a loyal fan. Each update had a meaning and a purpose.
    Ever since Firefox 5, each update makes slight improvements to technologies that aren't even used by the majority of the web. I'm not criticizing the updates you give, but instead how they are delivered.
    Since Firefox 5, every 6~ weeks, a new firefox is released with a new version number. They offer little new.
    My suggestion is to stop increasing the main version number.
    When you go to your Firefox version, it says Firefox 7.0.1. At the this rate, the second digit of the firefox version will likely NEVER be used. How can they give a decent update in less than 6 weeks? That wont happen, they will include it in the next release.
    Instead I propose a slightly revised plan. Instead of increasing the main version number, increase the second version number.
    For example;
    Firefox 8 is coming out very soon, instead of releasing it as Firefox 8, instead release it as 7.1. Firefox 9 can be released as 7.2. Firefox 10 can be released as 7.3, and etc.
    Based on the old plan (before rapid release) a MAJOR update would be released very rarely. Example:
    Firefox 2.0 released October 24th, 2006
    Firefox 3.0 released June 17, 2008
    That's about '''1 3/4 years later'''! In that same time span, Firefox will have increased 15 version numbers! That means '''we will be at version 22 in 1 3/4 years'''!
    I am in no way suggesting reverting. The new rapid release helps get new technologies out there.
    Here is my plan:
    * Firefox 7.1 (8) Week #6
    * Firefox 7.2 (9) Week #12
    * Firefox 7.3 (10) Week #18
    * Firefox 7.4 (11) Week #24
    * Firefox 7.5 (12) Week #30
    * Firefox 7.6 (13) Week #36
    * Firefox 7.7 (14) Week #42
    * Firefox 7.8 (15) Week #48
    * '''Firefox 8.0 (16) Week #54'''
    The six week plan with incremental updates will give us Version 8 on Week 54, almost one year after Version 7. This will allow for technologies to be released without undermining the huge progress that was made from version Firefox 1.0 - 4.0.
    This will stop the large amount of complaints that Firefox has been receiving.
    The rapid release that Chrome uses works well because they started with it, and they are used to it.
    I hope Firefox will consider this plan instead of the old one. I cannot see any flaws in it, but if you can, '''please''' point them out, as I would like to either rebuttal them, or agree with them.

    They do, just may not seem to be as obvious or as big as the the Firefox 4.0 release was in abundance of features.

  • Ever since updating my iphone to IOS6, my imessages are no longer working, its all regular text messages.  is this something that has changed with the new update?

    I can't figure out why my iMessages have stopped working since I updated my OS.  Is this an effect of the new update? Thanks for any insight!

    What 4.0.1 changes is the display of signal strength, which was much too optimistic in earlier versions of iOS. The actual signal strength has not changed, nor will it ever by a software update.
    You cannot compare signal strength by how many bars are drawn. This is an interpretation of actual signal strength (which is expressed in deciBells) by the software. This software can change between revisions of software on the same device and most definitely is different between devices of different manufacturers.

  • [svn] 4634: First part of glue code for allowing Halo components to use the new Text Layout Framework , in order to get functionality such as bidirectional text.

    Revision: 4634
    Author:   [email protected]
    Date:     2009-01-22 17:38:56 -0800 (Thu, 22 Jan 2009)
    Log Message:
    First part of glue code for allowing Halo components to use the new Text Layout Framework, in order to get functionality such as bidirectional text.
    Background:
    TLF is making this possible by implementing a TLFTextField class. It is a Sprite that uses TLF to implement the same properties and methods as the legacy TextField class in the Player. Thanks to the createInFontContext() bottleneck method in UIComponent, it can be used by a properly-written Halo component (such as those in Flex 3) without any modifications to the component.
    Note: Text should render similarly -- but is unlikely to render identically -- when a component uses TLFTextField vs. TextField. The width and height may be different, affecting layout; text could wrap differently; etc. This is a fact-of-life based on the fact that TLF/FTE and TextField are completely different text engines.
    Whether a Halo component uses TLF or not to render text will be determined in Flex 4 by a new style, textFieldClass. (Gumbo components always use TLF.)
    TLFTextField is currently only partially implemented. It does not yet support scrolling, selection, editing, multiple formats, or htmlText. Therefore it can only be used for simple display text, such as a Button label.
    Details:
    The TextStyles.as bucket 'o text styles now includes a non-inheriting textFieldClass style. It can be set to either mx.core.UITextField or mx.core.UITLFTextField. These are the Flex framework's wrapper classes around the lower-level classes flash.text.TextField (in the Player) and its TLF-based workalike, flashx.textLayout.controls.TLFTextField.
    The global selector in defaults.css currently sets it to mx.core.UITextField using a ClassReference directive. For the time being, all Halo components will continue to use the "real" TextField.
    The new UITLFTextField is a copy of UITextField, except that it extends TLFTextField instead of TextField. This class has been added to FrameworkClasses.as because no classes in framework.swc have a dependency on it. It will get soft-linked into applcations via the textFieldClass style.
    The TLFTextField class currently lives in a fourth TLF SWC, textLayout_textField.swc. This SWC has been added to various build scripts. The external-library-path for building framework.swc now includes all four TLF SWCs, because UITLFTextField can't be compiled and linked without them. However, since they are external they aren't linked into framework.swc.
    Properly-written Halo UIComponents access their text fields only through the IUITextField interface, and they create text fields like this:
    textField = IUITextField(createInFontContext(UITextField));
    (The reason for using createInFontContext() is to support embedded fonts that are embedded in a different SWF.)
    The createInFontContext() method of UIComponent has been modified to use the textFieldClass style to determine whether to create a UITextField or a UITLFTextField.
    With these changes, you can now write code like
    to get two Buttons, the first of which uses UITextField (because this is the value of textFieldClass in the global selector) and the second of which uses UITLFTextField. They look very similar, which is good!
    Currently, both Buttons are being measured by using an offscreen TextField. A subsequent checkin will make components rendering using UITLFTextField measure themselves using an offscreen TLFTextField so that measurement and rendering are consistent.

    Many of your points are totally legitimate.
    This one, however, is not:
    …To put it another way, the design of the site seems to be geared much more towards its regular users than those the site is supposedly trying to "help"…
    The design and management of the forums for more than five years have driven literally dozens of the most valuable contributors and "regulars" away from the forums—permanently.
    The only conclusion a prudent, reasonable person can draw from this state of affairs is that Adobe consciously and deliberately want to kill these forums by attrition—without a the PR hit they would otherwise take if they suddenly just shut them down.

  • Why is the NFC option on the newer T models gone?

    I'ved looked closely at the spec sheet and all options, and correct me if I'm wrong, but NFC is not an option anymore. Why? More and more ultra low budget phones and tablets come with NFC, so it seems very unlikely that cost savings is a factor.
    Why I would really miss NFC for my possible future laptop is for security reasons. Current biometric technologies are just not safe/reliable enough, and typing and remembering good passwords is just cumbersome. NFC on the other hand is much more versatile and secure, as you obviously can use multiple NFC cards for multiple complex and long passwords. And to boot the option of being able to combine NFC, biometrics and/or typing a password for two or three factor authentication would be very desirable to have. Again, due to NFC being quite inexpensive to build in, this is an uncessary step backwards.
    If the NFC option is either hidden, or is for some reason not yet listed for the newer models (but will be), than please do tell. If both are not the case, than I really really hope that Lenovo reconsiders offering the NFC option again when the future Skylake revisions can be purchased.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I wouldn't bother too much about the missing NFC option, because there is actually nothing you can do with the build in Broadcom NFC device. I've got a T540p with NFC but the driver just installs a useless NFC-Proximity-Device instead of providing proper PC/SC drivers and there is no Software which can use it (for Windows 7). Just search this forum for "NFC" and you won't find any reasonable answers to questions about what to do with this strange NFC-like device. For Win8 Lenovo provides the "QuickConnect NFC Utility" which could easily win any "most useless tool" award.
    In short: this NFC device isn't only cheap, but also worthless and now it seems to be gone which is a good thing. Buy an external contactless cardreader if you want to have a usable NFC device!

  • Will the new MB pro do 1080p in iTunes

    I'm using an iMac and a Mini to play video on an external tv/beamer. I use iTunes because it suports the ICC profiling and lets me calibrate the display in a perfect and easy way! (plex and xbmc don't support ICC).
    My problem is that the Mini can't play a mkv that is transcoded to iTunes and is 1080p. It stutters a little. Even the newest Mini was not able to play the 1080p which was confirmed in an Apple store under iTunes. It was the 2 GB model but after a few seconds the picture would totally freeze half a second. Very disapointing, my late 2009 was better or at least the same .
    My question is would upgrading the Mini to the MB pro solve this problem.
    The experiment with Mini has cost me 10% of the selling price allready so I don't take the risk and take it home any more
    Thanks!

    To answer my own question for the record and interested.
    I have a Macbook Pro 15 inch now and it plays 1080p@60 on my external beamer perfect. However 1080p@24 still judders. No surprise you'll say but I'm talking about playing in iTunes and that code seems less optimised than VLC by example. Therefore I suspect the 24p judder to be a code performance problem. I tried making a bug report to Apple. Hopefully quicktime and the video core are going to be revised in the new OS version. If not I have to stick to 1080p@60 and that looks great!
    So I'm happy for the time being
