The new UI problems 6.21.64.104+
There are several threads on the subject, I will try to summarize the key issues most people agree on. I can see a job opening for Skype Senior Designer at microsoft.com, and the timing doesn't look good
Some posts on this forum are quite angry, but I know it's too early to come to any conclusions about the new design. There is also a lot of sense in merging the mobile and desktop UIs.
Still there are some issues that need to be taken care of.
Chat Bubbles
The emphasis on the screen names is gone. It has become very hard to read group chats, especially with profile pictures disabled. The messages are clear, the senders' names are not anymore. Overall the bubbles don't work for group chats and something has to be done about it. A more varied color coding of the bubbles is an option, a switch for a bubbled/non-bubbled chat layout is another one. I vote for the latter.
The Contact List Header
The active user + status area along with 'Home' and 'Call phones' buttons occupy too much space in the new version. I don't know what your stats say, but I doubt that these are the functions people use most in the Skype window. The list is the most important thing. And the search area. The obvious solution is to snap the search back to the contact list and shrink everything above it.
Also
The new version shows too many symptoms of Alzheimer's. It doesn't remember:
- if i prefer Recent tab to be open on launch
- if i prefer the group chat users list to be expanded

Reason for the new updater problems..
Hey, i know about the problem witht he new updater...and I have fixed it by downgrading my ipod. But i was just wondering if anyone has figured out why movies dont work? is it because they are trying to force you to buy the music videos and stop people from illegally importing them. even though its not always illegal. If you want to downgrade...
1) Uninstall the 1.1 updater from your computer.
2) Install 1.0 from the CD that came with your iPod.
3) Plug in your iPod.
4) Run the 1.0 updater.
5) Select 'restore'.
6) Follow instructions.
7) Resync with iTunes. -
When opening Firefox one of my homepages is often replaced by the new tab.
For the last several versions of Firefox one of my two homepages on opening the browser is frequently replaced by a new tab; clicking on the home icon always opens the missing homepage (along with a second copy of the other one that is open), but this is now getting annoying. I was hoping an update would fix the problem, but of course this has not happened.
The problem began several FF versions ago just about the same time I updated CCleaner, so I considered the possibility that the latter was deleting something that interferred with my FF tabs; after having uninstalled that version of CCleaner, however, and reinstalled the previous one - the use of which had never coincided with the tab problem - the continued issue with the new tab was clearly not due to CCleaner, so I could only assume that the problem was with FF itself. (Note: I had not installed any new plug-ins or extensions at the time the problem began.)

I cannot be sure if it is related, or indeed is the cause of the problem with the new tab, but in the last couple of days it has become evident that Google has been modifying some pages, including the Gmail logon page.
1) Yesterday I found that on the logon page the field for the password had gone; the username field was there with a blue button below it saying 'Next', which I had to use to bring up the password field;
2) Today, after attempting to login to my e-mail, I was taken to a security checkup/update page for my account, which I completed - except for providing a 'recovery phone number' - but I was given no way of getting into my e-mail; if I logged out and in again I was again taken to the same security update page. Eventually, I went to a google support page via a search engine and saw a link for Gmail that took me straight into my e-mail - I was still logged in - and I replaced the Gmail address for my Firefox homepage again and now I can get into my e-mail. (Part of my problem here may have been that I refused to give a phone number; the form asked me to complete it by adding a number, which I would have to have verified so I could not fake it, i.e. 01234...)
Given how long I have had the new tab problem - since at least FF32.0 - Google may not be the problem, but changes such as I have described do sometimes take some time and can clearly cause problems. Are any of you Gmail users?

The New Linux+ 103 and 104 tests
Has anyone taken the new 103 and 104 tests. I went ahead and ordered a book and have been reviewing the old book for 101 and 102 that I found at a thrift store. I am finding that there isn't much in there that I didnt' know already. I actually still considered myself a bit of a linux newb but I am passing the practice tests, so maybe I have moved on from newb finally (after 10 years) There is a couple of things I have learned, like I never knew about xargs (wow is xargs cool or what), but for the most part is is all review for me.
I am just curious how much IPV6 stuff is on the 103 and 104 tests, I hate to admit the only thing I know about IPv6 so far is how to disable it on all my stuff. ;) If I need to I will dive into learning all the IPv6 stuff before the test.
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks CommunityI am now seeing this same IP address resolution problem slowly (but surely) populate into other browsers (firefox and internet explorer) in windows. The only way I can rationalize this is there is some kind of address resolution problem with one (or more) of ICANN's DNS servers.

I also am having a problem with the songs I purchased using the laptop not showing on the desk top itunes, even though it is authorized to do so. The new songs did show up on the iPad iTunes, however. Have no idea why. I thought this happened automatically.

My Mozzilla crashed: "We're Sorry....Firefox had a problem..." I download the new version and it is still giving me the crash report.
I tried to loading in "safe mode" but I still could not open Firefox.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

I notice that my new IPad (3rd generation) will not stay connected to the power cord at all, I'm not exagerating, if I plug it in and browse the Internet without fail it will become unplugged and I will have to push the plug back in (Ba-beep). Ive actually grown to despise that sound when you plug your iPhone or iPad in because it reminds me of how much money I spent on something that PHYSICALLY will not charge while I'm using it.
I know the problem with it holding a charge while in use, I get it, the screen is amazing and it takes a lot to run the display, however, it is unacceptable to me that I can't even keep the thing plugged in while I'm using it. I can not even leave it on my Cal King bed overnight because I will wake up in the morning to find that the plug has been jiggled loose in a corner, so it's still attached but not making a connection thus not being charged.
I love the 4GLTE from Verizon and I love the iPad, but I'm actually using my 1st generation IPad while I am at home so I can leave my new $900 iPad on a table to charge free of incident so I can use the 4G while I'm away from wifi during the day. I have been getting more upset about this because I can not even use the Griffin extended cord to charge the iPad and be far from the plug because only the original apple sync/charge cord will have a better shot at staying in. Absolutely none of my non apple cables will stay in the iPad 3 while having it in my hands.
The plug is at an angle, unlike the first iPad, not sure about the iPad 2. Please let me know if they have same issue.
If anyone else is having this problem with the Gen 3 iPad please let me know because I'm tempted to do something about it with apple and I'm hoping that I just for some reason have a bad cable receiver or something and maybe I can get a replacement and enjoy the iPad as I had expected to. There is no reason why I should be even using my first iPad and I have friends that want to buy it but I am not selling it because I'm unable to sell it because I can't handle the new iPad while it's plugged in, that is ridiculous if it's a common issue so please let me know!Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. I have recently upgraded the new Apple software and now when I purchased new songs they show up in my tunes library However, I cannot transfer or download them to my iPod shuffle...any help is appreciated..my son is having the same problem downloading to his iPhone 4.
From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

This is to report the problem i encountered when i updated my Ipad mini to the new IOS 8.1..
After the update my Ipad restart and after that it appears a picture that need to connect to itunes and need to restore. So i connect it to itunes and wait to restore my ipad mini because it is not opening.
After restoring it my ipad is now opening and it is like new that i need to set up again.
I set up again until i reach the apple id and password.
I put my below apple ID and password to unlock my ipad but it didn't work. The message i receive is "the apple ID cannot be used to unlock this Ipad.
What will I do? Please help.

I am migrating to a new iMac via TimeMachine back up. My iPhoto libraries are on an external drive. Both drives are backed up on Time Machine. I'd like to migrate only the old internal hard drive data to the new internal Drive and then just plug in iPhoto library drive to the new iMac. This would save having to transfer several hundred GBs of data. Will this work using Set Up Assistant?
Your user account on the new Mac must have a different UID than on the old one. See the pink box in Problems after using Migration Assistant for an explanation.
You'll need to change the permissions on the iPhoto library on the external HD. Do a Get Info on it, click the padlock at the bottom of the Sharing & Permissions section of the Info window and enter your Admin password.
Then click the plus sign, select the user account you want on the next screen, and click Select. Then change Read only to Read & Write for that user via the little arrows. Finally, click the "gear" icon and select Apply to enclosed items. That may take a few mintutes on a large library. -
Hi everyone.
I wonder if i am the only one experiencing a little problem with the new Pages?
My problem is that every other time i want to correct the font lets say trying to underline or make the font fatter using the hotkeys "Command+B" or "Command+U" or "Command+I", or even changing it manually in "formats" my font gets stuck, and i have to copy-paste text from another pages-file into my old one to get et back to normal.
Anyone else tried this?

After one week testing the new iPod (60 Giga), i'm not happy to say that i'm quite disappointed.
I've a music library of 35 gigs and around 3000 photos. Few videos.
The major problem i've noticed is the artwork loading/displayng. In shuffle mode, artworks are showed correctly, but they takes lot of time for loading and the music occasionaly stops for a moment, while the HD is working.
But if i want to play an entire album, the songs frequently are skipped, the music takes many seconds to start, the screen animation remains locked, system freezed, the HD continuously works. I wonder why all this HD activity for loading only 20-80 kb of image data while it takes one second for loading one song of 10 megs? Often the first song of the album is skipped and the album is played from the second one. This problem occours as with artworks added manually, as with artworks of songs buyed from ITMS. No difference.
If i disable the artwork showing (from iTunes), the songs are loaded immediately, fast, with no issue, smooth as with my 4G iPod (no photo), where i have loaded in the same music library.
The photo display is nice, but slooooww! sometimes it takes 30 seconds or more to generate the thumbnail of one folder.
And the HD works continuosly.
I've also checked the HD from disk utility, but everiyhing is OK.
Another note: everyone says that the quality of the display is great. I'm not so satisfied. The quality of the pictures is disappointing, all the colors are washed out. The same photo, showed on the display of my digital camera is absolutely better! The display is too bright for my taste, the photos are showed overexposed, but it lacks of a brightness adjustment...
The only thing i've found very nice and efficient is the movie play. For short movies (< 3 mins.) no issue.
In conclusion: from thee Photo side, this iPod suffers of some serious bugs that i hope to be corrected ASAP. In addition, the continuous HD activity when loading images (photos and artworks) dramatically drains the battery charge. The song skipping sometimes is a frustrating experience, due to the issue of the artwork loading that lock the entire system for few seconds.
I think that Apple has commercialized this product too soon, not yet well optimized and fully tested, only to have it available in the stores for Christmas time. But it's far to be what i've read on some reviews...I wouldn't bet against a software update to fix this problem, but who knows how long you'd have to wait.

Problems with the new update on iPad
Hi, i just installed the new update on my i pad and now its not working anymore, it keeps trying to open, but it doesnt even got past the black background with the apple logo on it, then it closes and reopens after, and its going on and on since yesterday, what can i do? I bought my iPad 2 years ago now, but i've been caring alot for it, its in really good shape and all, is there anything i can do to fix the problem or do i have to go to the apple store... and even there, will they fix it or tell me to buy a new one...

I already tried holding both the Home button and Sleep/Wake buttons but it didn't work, and since my iPad is not staying open long enough it doesn't connect to my itunes...

Problems with the new Airport Extreme???
Have installed the new 802.11n Airport Extreme, replacing an earlier version. New is the use of a USB-connected disc, which I use to backup and sync an iMac and laptop.
The disc disappears from the desktops from time to time (12 to 36 hours), and will not reconnect. However, the routing function of the AP unit works more or less as it should.
The remedy is to unplug and reconnect.
An interesting part of the problem is that 'old' connections seem to be remembered on the iMac (however, the contents is not there) as in this screenshot (and not knowing how tho imbed it here, here is the link instead):

Any good ideas? Is this a problem Apple has recognized? How would you go about making them aware of the problem?

You are way ahead of me as far as the Command + K is concerned. I couldn't find a Command key on the iPad's on-screen keyboard! I believe :8081 is a port number. You might try leaving off the :8081 and see if it makes a difference. Another possibility is that the printer somehow lost its IP address and then received a different number via DHCP. Check again with HP iPrint to see if it still finds the printer at the same address.
I have a Macintosh computer running Snow Leopard. I found an AppleScript script that adds a small text file to a hidden folder on the Mac, that allows the mac to share its printer as AirPrint over WiFi. I found the information at:
