The new version of iTunes has screwed things up - help!
Hi, I recently downloaded the newest version of iTunes (10.6.1) on my Mac and now it won't sync with my iPhon. A message appears saying I require MAC OS X version 10.6.8 or later. I currently have version OS X 10.5.8.
What do I do???
Please someone help me. I'm strressing out as I can't sync my iPhone and I use it for absolutely everything! And I'm a complete novice when it comes to anything technology-related.

If you need the newest version of iTunes because (for instance) you have a new iPhone or iOS 6 device, then you will need to purchase and upgrade your OS X software; to Snow Leopard 10.6 and then patch to 10.6.8, or to a more recent release of OS X... See this thread or this thread for some related details; for information on how to learn what hardware is supported by Snow Leopard 10.6, on how to order the DVD, etc.

It seems that the new version of Itunes has conflicted with my CD/DVD drive because when I uninstalled and re installed the itunes my drive has stopped working and I now have an error code of 19 - Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) I have tried to update drivers but I am up to date, I have installed and re installed my drive this did not solve the problem. I am now at a loss as to what to do I have had a live chat with microsoft and they could not reslove it all they wanted to do was sell me another service!!! Could installing an older version of itunes solve this issue?

Having trouble downloading the new version of itunes on Macbook, can you help me?

I bought my computer MacBook about six years ago. I am trying to download the new version of itunes. It downloads to my computer, but then asks me for my name and installer password. The options to get that password back is to install the initial disk of the computer, which I do not have anymore or restart the computer doing some sort of steps. I am clueless when it comes to computers, so if anyone can help me that would be awsome!
My computer has been running fine these past years and I would hate for the answer to be that I have to replace my MacBook for another Mac....You can purchase replacement discs from Apple:

For Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow
instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

When I download new singles, they show up in my library in "Unknown Album" under "Unknown Artist", but all the info is there when I look. Also, it won't even let me import songs into my library. Is it JUST ME?!?!

I installed the new version of iTunes today. It's 12.1.1. After completing the installation, including restarting my computer, I was no longer able to use Windows Internet Explorer. Has anybody else experienced this? If so, how did you fix Explorer? I was using Explorer 11 and Windows 7, installed on an HP Pavilion g series
Never heard of that being caused by installing iTunes. Try asking on a Windows forum. This isn't a problem with iTunes or any other Apple product. If you believe it is, uninstall iTunes. If the problem persists, you'll have to seek advice on a Windows forum or contact Microsoft for support.

Click Change and select a new location for your files.From now on, new songs and other items you import will be stored in the new location. Songs you’ve already imported stay in their current location.To go back to storing imported files in the iTunes folder, choose iTunes > Preferences, click Advanced, and click Reset.

See this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808. It may be necessary to do this more than one time. Your device is in recovery mode.

I really need HELP!!! I have a laptop that runs with windows vista, and I have been having issues trying to get it to download the new version of itunes that would be compatible to the new version of ios 7 that I have already updated on my ipad. I have downloaded this three times, it shows that the download is complete, but when I connect my ipad to my laptop it is still telling me that I have to download the new version again and it will not sync with my ipad until I do. Does anyone else have this issue and can anyone help me figure out how to correct it? I would be most grateful!!

well nobody bothered to give me a hint on what to do, maybe because the problems with the new version of iTunes are really a lot, there is an enormous amount of people out there that have all sort of different problems including mine so I have decided to return to the previous version which works fine and wait untill the apple people come up with a decent product ....

I just upgraded my mac book to 10.6.8 and downloaded the new version of itunes. When I try to open it and error message appears saying, "The iTunes Library file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder."
I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?Look in your Home > Music folder. There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl You want to guide iTunes to that file. If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

HT1386 Trouble with the new version of iTunes on an old laptop...
I have just spent an hour and half on the phone to iTunes support. They were great and helped me to back-up my old iphone3 which was almost dead and then restore the data onto my new iPhone4S, however the new version of iTunes on the laptop doesn't seem to be showing any of my music or apps, they are all my boyfriend's stuff. Do I need to log into my account? How do I do this? Will that have all my music and apps?
You can be on any account to show all music. But between your acct and your BFs account, if you have different songs and apps, it will be difficult to back up and/or transfer your purchased songs and apps because using different Apple IDs in one library can confused things on itunes.

That will only restore songs that you purchased from iTunes. If you downloaded songs from a third-party site, you have to locate it on your computer and add it to itunes. -
I need to authorize my computer for my daughter's new iPod Touch but in the new version of itunes that just upgraded to day there is no "store" menu or "advanced" menu that I can see and I can't see a way to do it. So anything she buys with her i.d. won't transfer. Help!

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
1. Open iTunes on a computer
2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.
