The new Voice Control feature

Hi there. While looking at the features of the new iPod touch, I noticed that the Voice Control thing from the iPhone 3Gs would be included in it. Will it be included on an iPod touch software update if you have a second generation? Because I'd quite like to have it on mine. If not, is there any other way of getting it on mine, like do I have to buy the earphones with the Remote plus the Mic?

It does not appear to be. It is also not on the "current" 8 gig Touch. There has generally been at least one significant feature that you have to buy the newest iPod in order to get. I suspect that Voice Command is going to be that feature. Sorry.

  • How can I disable the new voice feature in iMessage?

iMessage is great and I use it a lot, but I hate the new voice feature. I don't want anyone to be able to send me a voice message. I think it's extremely pushy. If someone wants to talk to me, he should give me a call. Then I can decide whether I answer the call or not. How can I disable this without completly disabling iMessage?

I'm pretty sure there's no way to prevent this, just like there's no way to prevent a text message or picture/video message.  If you don't want to listen to it, delete it, and text them back and tell them you don't like voice messages and they need to call you and leave a voicemail.

  • Does the new silent update feature in Flash player 11.2.202.228 need adobe air installed to update??

This is for IE8 on a Vista 32 bit machine.
Also, when it automatically updates does it add things like the promotional Google toolbar and such?

AIR is not required for the new silent update feature.  You also won't ever have third party applications added without first being allowed to opt out.

  • Why can't I install the new Voice "Tom"

I have successfully installed 10.8 and everything is going well. Today I tried to install the new Voice Update (Tom) but got an unexpected error. Is there some
    trick to getting it installed?

I installed this update yesterday, and it reappeared as an update today.  I just downloaded and installed it again.  I'm not sure what's going on.

  • Are there Mail changes in Mavericks? Are the new iCloud keychain features like LastPass?

It's a pleasant surprise that Mavericks - OS X 10.9 was released as a free upgrade. There are some nice new features, like Finder tabs. I don't see any mention of Mail enhancements though. Are there any? I see tagging for files. Tagging for mail would be nice as cross-references.
What about the new iCloud keychain features. Does that do most of what LastPass does? Or is it just Safari specific?
    Anyway, off to upgrade!

  • I love the new touch screen features!

I just wanted to say that whomever added the new touch screen features to Illustrator CC is AWESOME!  Very cool!  Great work!  Touch type tool, free transform, multi-touch zoom/panning... very nice!
I like it so much I made a video: http://youtu.be/ZKhifrhMmNg?t=4m13s
(and also showed some touch screen support in a few other Adobe CC programs.)
Hope to see more of that kind of innovation.

    Gorgeous.
Some people may not be able to enjoy that great enhancement due to some controversy when it comes to buy (not rent) that piece of software.

  • LR4 is wonderful, especially the new tonal controls!

We have been playing around with the 4.1 RC 2 on our recent workshops and everybody has been blown away by what's possible in LR4.
The redesigned controls are much more logical to use especially for newcomers. But it wasn't until I read Extreme contrast edits in Lightroom 4 and ACR 7 by Martin Evening, that I grasped how much the tonal controls had been improved under the hood. I might have been missing something, but these fantastic enhancements don't seem to get the coverage they deserve.
It's simply wonderful and I would like to thank to the LR team for all their hard work - it's very much appreciated!!!
PS: none of us has experienced any of the slowdown issues posted in this forum.
A little sample of the new tonal controls applied:

    Lr4/PV2012 rocks! .
But make sure you install Lr4.1 final immediately - many key issues have been addressed...

  • Customizing pronunciation with the new voices (speech synthesis / say command))

    Hi,
I’m trying to use embedded commands with the “say" command to customize the pronunciation of some words (I’m using made-up words so the speech synthesizer does not place the lexical stress where I want it to). I followed the documentation found there: https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/userexperience/conceptual/ SpeechSynthesisProgrammingGuide/FineTuning/FineTuning.html . So for instance:
say -v Tom “[[inpt PHON]] gr1AESOWIHN [[inpt TEXT]]”
should produce “grashoing” with stress on the first syllable.
My problem is that it only works with Alex and the original MacinTalk voices, but not with the new voices introduced in Lion (such as Tom and Samantha): they seem to support embedded speech commands (the parts between [[ and ]]), but they pronounce the phonemic representation as a list of letters and numbers (so “jee ar one a ee …”).
Do you know how I can get around this? How do I provide phoneme input with the new voices?

I know I'm a litte late to this party, but after conducting my own tests and then finding this post, I would like to say that it appears Scansoft voices don't respond to Phonemes. I learned this long ago while messing with TextAloud on the PC. They seem to only respond to plain text and alternate spellings unless the 'PRON SYM' is used, but the latter has unpredictable results and I don't know how to do this in on the Mac side. For example, the workaround for that partiular word goes something like this:
say -v Tom “[[inpt PHON]] gra showing [[inpt TEXT]]”
It works when tested in the terminal and sounds like the expected pronunciation after listening to Alex with the phonemes you chose. The breaks in the word are where you'll get emphasis for particular sounds. It is my assumption that you will have to do all edits for these voices in this manner.
Hope this helps for others that stumble upon this post.
I have to admit that I have a gripe about Apple not offering a way to edit pronunciations for Text-to-Speech within the system. The voiceover utility is a seperate entitiy and has no effect on TTS. I have sent feedback to Apple requesting an editor of sorts, and I would like to urge others to do the same.

  • Doubts with the new process-controlled worflow

    Hi everyone,
We are working with a new implementation of SRM 7 in classic scenario. We have a pair of doubt about the new process-controlled workflow. Can you help us?
    Our doubts are:
    1) In SC there are a new button called "inquire", this is used to return the SC to the creator in order to change the SC. Can we uses this same button in central contracts?
    2) In the documentation we read, we can configure when a notification can be sent. For example, can we configure than only when a SC or contract is rejected the system sends a notification to the creator of the document? Is this notification is a e-mail? If the WF has n-steps approvers and we configurate that SRM sends the notification to the approver, does it mean that this notification is sent to all the approvers?
    3) When a SC is released, can it be modified?
    We need your help.

"Inquire" button will be only avaliable if you have configured approval with completion in the process level.. you can configure this for contract as well
    2) In the documentation we read, we can configure when a notification can be sent. For example, can we configure than only when a SC or contract is rejected the system sends a notification to the creator of the document? Is this notification is a e-mail? when a SC or contract is rejected the system sends a notification to the creator of the document? Yes.. system will send an email notification
Is this notification is a e-mail?  Yes
If the WF has n-steps approvers and we configurate that SRM sends the notification to the approver, does it mean that this notification is sent to all the approvers? Yes
    3) When a SC is released, can it be modified? SC can't be modified once its Approved..

  • Mobile Device Management solutions for K-8 school, where are the new iOS 7 features?

    Hi all,
I work at a K-8 school and we are using Meraki by Cisco as our Mobile Device Management solution.  This seems to be working just fine but with the release of iOS 7 we are trying to figure out how to use all of the new features included pertaining to MDM.  We have about 300 iPad 2s deployed.
The teachers would love to be able to use free apps and, using Apple's VPP, paid apps.  Right now we have to manually enter any redemption code into Meraki and then on each and every iPad log in using the Apple ID and password associated with the license purchased.  I am aware, via several sources, that Apple now allows you to "silently" install apps.  How can we do this? Anyone have any other tips to help in the deployment of the apps with the new iOS 7 features?
    Thanks,
    Scott

They're a lot more expensive, but Griffin has some of their 'survivor' cases with sealed ports, so you could cover up the ones you don't need.
