The newest version of iTunes will not recognize my iPod

I have never had any problems with iTunes recognizing my 4th generation iPod touch until I installed the newest version of iTunes. I have went through the troubleshooting tip in the Apple Support Center...all of them...several times. However, my iPod is still not showing up on iTunes. I have Windows Vista Home Premium, and I have tried everything that I could possible think of in addition to the troubleshooting tips and nothing at all has worked. My iPod shows up on My Computer just not on iTunes. Can anyone help?

I have resent my ipod and have also done all the suggested things on the apple website and still it is not being recognized, I do not know what else I can do. My macbook will recognize my ipod touch but I don't want to sync it to that itunes since it is already out of date, I want to sync it to my desktop mac where I already have the latest version of itunes, and all the music I want to sync onto my ipod touch. If it's any consolation i've just had a similar thing happen. Went to add a playlist and it wiped 35 gig of music off my iPod touch 64g in a nanosecond. I've got the latest iTunes and osx but do not back up because i keep different styles of music (and loads of it) in separate libraries and devices which i don't want mixed together. All my stuff is burned from cd so it's not lost for good and i've got a hard drive with the "lost" mp3 music on it but even so it will take literally weeks to prune the tracks for my iPod to be the same again. Why do they make it so difficult to manage your music on these things. I have massive amounts of music on my computer so autofill is a disastrous unusable gimmick to me. The whole thing seems to be aimed at 9 year old kids with about 6 mp3's on their phone rather than serious music lovers (for example accessing EQ is a joke let alone the lack of a manual option). I'm a dj and use apple for that reason but to be honest i'm beginning to wonder why. I'm absolutely livid. The weird thing is that my mac still shows the titles of the missing tunes in the 'on my device' window but as my macbook storage display shows no increase i'm pretty sure it's all gone. Nightmare. I have no confidence in this device anymore and could barely use the previous osx 8.2 anyway. Why they have to change it every ten minutes is beyond me. As the old saying goes 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but this format just gets more broken every time they update. An absolute disgrace. Why not just drag and drop or delete. No wonder the iPod is said to be a dying device, it's for music, it is not a phone. Not fit for purpose anymore. I can't be bothered to read a massive 'how to use' article every update. Good technology should be easier and more intuitive with each new version. I suppose i'll have to phone apple at my expense to find out what's going on, or maybe that's the whole idea. Very very very not happy.

Anyone out there having the same issue? iTunes will not recognize it no matter what I do. I have followed all the advice about resetting it and redownloading iTunes, restarting the apple mobile device from the command center. I don't know what else to do but something has to be done. Also, it will not recognixe my phine either but it says that it needs drivers for that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My itunes will not recognize my ipod shuffle after installing Mcafee

My itunes will not recognize my Ipod shuffle, I have tried almost everything Itunes has suggested including uninstalling and installing Itunes. I am at a loss, the computer recognizes the ipod and assigns a drive to it. When I click on the drive there are flies in it. I have disabled the firewall, checked all firewall settings as suggested in previous forums. I have tried deleting the temp files but that keeps getting hung up on a file that says it is in use. I can stll use my ipod because it charges but I can not update songs etc.
I contacted Mcafee but all they did was turn the firewall off (I could have done that myself).
If there is any help I would appreciate it!

The first thing I did in the morning was contact McAfee they turned the firewall off it didnt work so they said it wasnt their problem. I attempted several other things using ITunes help but none of the solutions worked. I would say it is something in my computer but the drive shows up in my files so the computer is reading the USB port. I tried changing the drive but that didnt help.
I cannot find a universal "OFF switch" in McAfee But I have turned the firewall off several times after many different attempts.
I do not find an area where I can tell Itunes where the Ipod is in Windows Explorer, that would be helpful at least it could try to locate it then. You would think this feature would be available since Itunes would like us to purchase music through them to load on our equipment. Since my computer does not recognize my Ipod there is no need for me to purchase music.

I have a second touch (an older generation), a 160 GB Ipod & a shuffle that all work fine. Not sure where to go. Connect your iPod to any computer with iTunes installed, highlight your device and try syncing the apps only. If it doesn't work might have to restore through iTunes. With the new iTunes and iCloud beta, you can have the iTunes list what apps are missing on your device but if you had previously purchased in the past and then have iTunes install them. You should always get in the habit of backing up your iPhone whenever you do any firmware/OS updating/upgrading or transferring over to new device. I really really really really hope you can get back at least some of your old info. I will tell you this, I have been kicking myself in the butt for not routinely backing up my iPhone when my beautiful special iPhone 4 came up missing and had to revert back to my 3GS. iPhone 5 will be released in a few months so I am holding off on purchasing a new iPhone til then, not that I did so without reservation and a little bit of iPhone 4 withdraw.
