The nimbus of the dreaded "Playback Err

Many of you have also been blessed by that wonderful message on your player --- "Playback Error". The probable root causes are shrouded in fog and not subjects of a worthy discussion by Creative. On my trusty 30 GB NOMAD Jukebox Zen NX I started experiencing them after a recent firmware update. Evidently the decoder routines were made a bit more sensiti've to various uncharted, or "gray" zones of MP3 file structure. Browsing through the appropriate forums one became the impression that I wasn't the only one to have made the same conclusion. The Zen simply experiences indigestion on certain MP3 files. At first I was completely stymied for a likely explanation, but the situation did have its own brand of comedy: the "problem" files could still be played normally by MediaSource directly from the player! That almost ruled out any form of true file corruption.
After gathering a small arsenal of MP3 tools I finally discovered that the particular files in question did have a peculiar trait, a quirk if you will. I have no idea where my good son obtained them, but they all had only an ID3 version 2 tag. Thats perfectly acceptable I think. The problem being more one of extremes; version 2 tags can formally be bloody large (up to 256MB or so I believe). The files in question had bloated version 2 tags which were over 600KB in size. To quote the help file of the very useful tool "MP3-Library": "But some software and some hardware players get problems with ID3 tags bigger than about 64 kBytes (they can not skip so much data before they find the sync-pattern of the first valid MP3-frame)". Well now, 600+ KB is definitely larger than 64KB. After massaging the version 2 tags of the problem files down to a reasonable size the Zen was able to play them normally.
I'm sure that this is most likely not the single source of "Playback Error" the Creative players exhibit, but at least it is a small and easily cureable start.

In other words, are there any limits against to play 5 videos in a media Session?

  • HT1725 When I click on a Movie I get the following "You have already purchased this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, select Check For Available Downloads from the Store menu." Then get err = 11111

iTunes quit unexpectedly during the download of a movie.  When I click on that movie now I get the following message: "You have already purchased this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, select Check For Available Downloads from the Store menu."
I follow the instructions, but the download still doesn't resume - err = 11111
    Any advice?

Yeah, I am going to blast my iPhone for the 4th time today and pray this goes away. I had 6 apps showing updates, the 6 badge icon shows on the App Store on my iPhone and, having run them all, the 6 apps have two copies each on my iPhone: one that is the old version of the app and will not run and the other is a faded version of the app with an empty progress bar on the icon. Click those and you get an error message about connecting to iTunes, etc. as described in the article I linked to above.
It gets stranger than this. If I install a completely NEW app, the 6 that are stuck mid-update heal themselves and appear with the new version only, however now completely different apps (Hold Em for instance - which I did not update and didn't need an update) will not launch "app name Cannot Launch" message comes up.
    Agh!

  • In iTunes 11 how does one create a gapless CD transition if the CD is already in the library.  The gapless playback option is not where it was located in the last version.

I have a large itunes library that I use with Pure music.  In the past, I was tagging CDs imported as gapless after the fact.  Primarily it tool me a while to learn that I needed to do this for best playback from memory.  in iTunes 11, I can see how to join CDs on input but not how to join songs of a CD that is already loaded.  Any Ideas?

Changing the drive alone, even if you give the drive the sam name as the previous drive, won't solve it.  The mere fact that you moved the folders/files to a new drive makes it a different location.   You have to reconnect the media after moving the location.
Not Quite. As an experiment, I created a series of folders on a clean target drive with the same names as on the source drive, then drag-copied the media files for a given project into those folders. I did this with 2 FCE projects and both opened on the new hard drive without the need to re-connect the media. In this case, all of the media was located in a folder at the root level of the drive. Apparently, the FCE application begins its search at the root level and seems to work even though the names of the 2 drives are different.
I may not be as fortunate transferring projects from other hard drives because the directory paths for media will not be the same. Anyway, it worked for this particular case and will save me some time and effort.

  • I have windows 8 and itunes 11.0.2 and the the quality of the playback of my tv shows is choppy, does anyone know how I can fix this?

I just recently got a new laptop with windows 8  and downloaded itunes 11.0.2.  I downloaded my tv shows from the cloud to the laptop and the playback was awful...the audio was fine but the video is choppy and couldn't keep up with the audio.  I thought maybe it was because I downloaded it from the cloud and it was  a different version of itunes so I downloaded different TV shows from the store and it was the same problem.  Does anyone know how I can fix this?
    Thanks

    Resolved!
After contacting Apple, I received a reply from their engineers:
    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
    And that did the trick.

  • After installing Adobe Premiere Pro product CS6 in the program is not active PlayBack

After installing Adobe Premiere Pro product CS6 in the program is not active
PlayBack button setting when creating sequence.
    Windows 7 64-bit. Intel Xeon 2, RAM 12 MB. Mxo2

    Hi,
Thanks for posting that screenshot. It appears that you have opened your Sequence Settings for a DV-NTSC sequence and have made a circle around the "Edit Settings" button.
Since you chose to create a DV sequence, you cannot change those settings.
Do you have DV NTSC clips? If so, these are the correct settings.
If you do not have DV NTSC clips, do not be concerned. Just create the sequence.
Once you drag a non-DV clip into the DV sequence, it's OK.
You have the option of changing the Sequence Settings to match those of your clip in a new dialog box.
Click "Change Sequence Settings" in the dialog box.
    I hope that helps.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Photo Stills look good on the timeline but awful during playback

Not sure what I did wrong. I'm doing a slideshow of photos and some of the photos look great during playback and some look pixelated. What is the reason behind this? I remember when I did a video the video clips were coming out blurry and I found a "trick" where I had to add a high resolution clip that would set the precedent for all other clips to keep them from being blurry. But this is with photos now so I'm not sure of any "tricks".
    Any help appreciated. Thanks!

The best thing I have found to do, and it goes against everything in my being, is to use bing to do a search for "HD Photo of __________."

  • How do I get rid of the quick crossfade in gapless playback?

I've noticed since installing iTunes 8 that there is a very quick crossfade when tracks progress from one to the other with gapless playback. I don't remember this happening before, although maybe i juts didn't notice this?
I do have crossfade disabled in Preferences, and I do have gapless playback enabled for the relevant albums, although it does occasionally appear to uncheck itself for some reason, although remains set to "yes".
(And tangentially, what a weird interface. Why are there checkboxes and then "yes/no" menus? It would seem to me that "yes" mean "checked" and "no" means "unchecked")
Anyone else notice this issue? It's really beginning to irritate me.

You may get improved gapless performance for gapless tracks if you set the option to No, apply the change, then set back to Yes and apply again. This should force iTunes to reanalyze the gapless transition.
Thank you for responding. I wish I could say that that helped, but it there was absolutely no change in the smoothness of the transition from track to track after having done this.
I listen to a lot of classical music where movements progress smoothly with no break in the music. Having a sudden volume fade, no matter how brief, as the track changes to corresponding to a movement change is somewhat jarring.
I suppose I may have to look for another app. Any suggestions?

  • When I import video and place it into timeline as a raw file with no fx or any added processing I get the message that the video is unrendered and therefore it doesn´t playback?

When I import video and place it into timeline as a raw file with no fx or any added processing I get the message that the video is unrendered and therefore it doesn´t playback?

FCE can use DV or AIC video formats natively.  Any other format will need to be converted to one of those two if you want to avoid constant rendering.  The clips you use must match the Sequence settings.

  • Playhead randomly JUMPS to the end of the timeline when "editing" during playback

    CS 6.0.1
    OSX 10.7.4
I love the new feature in CS6 that lets you edit DURING playback, and playback won't stop. Brilliant.
Now, I use this feature a lot making cuts as I go. I use the "command + shift + k" combo to make an edit to all tracks while the playhead is moving along. It seems though that every so often when I do this, the playhead warps to the end of the timeline. Very frustrating, and when dealing with long timelines, really slows me down, to get back to where I was working.
Also I can repeat this "glitch" very easily, so its not some totally random occurance. Just pushing cmd+shift+k while the playhead is moving a few times repeats it very quickly.
Am I doing something wrong here? Or toggling some OTHER key command inadvertently? Or is this a legit glitch?
EDIT: I would like to add that using the "nudge" command during playback has the same glitch of arbitrarily jumping to the end of the timeline if you click the nudge command quickly in succession.

This issue was NOT resolved by manually installing all cs6 updates that were failing with adobe product manager, then doing a clean installation of the latest drivers from Nvidia's website using the ODE (Optimal Drivers for Enterprise) Graphics Drivers.
The issue came back after editing for a little bit., however this following fix worked:
*FIXED BY ADOBE TECH SUPPORT INDIA*
The solution was to delete all media cache files and all cache settings for the specific project.   Check all your cache locations and encoded media file locations.
Rebuild project on load.... edit.    Thanks.

  • FCP7 HELP - Exported quicktime mov plays differently than what I edited on the timeline. The playback shows the clips with ins and outs that are different than what I set in the clips when I edited - some are too early and the clips don't playback

    Please help ASAP.
    Specs: IOS 10.6.8
    Processor 2.4GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 -- Everything is edited, sourced, and stored on an 2TB external hard drive to make things go faster.
    Editing with FCP 7
When I export the sequence I edited with quicktime, the playback video is very different from what I edited on the timeline. The playback has the clips with ins and outs that are way off than what I cut, and some of the clips don't show at all or have changed transitions. However when I play in the timeline in FCP, the sequence is fine, just the way I cut it.
The source of the clips was one long .mov that I cut into clips for the timeline. Everything has gone smoothly but the exported .mov is just so different.
How can I get the time codes of the clips to be the same in the exported .movs? I just want the quicktime .mov to represent my edit exactly.
This video is due tomorrow - if the solution is too time consuming, can I play within the FCP player window and Log and Capture?
    Thanks,
    MV

What is your source material? Is it H.264? FCP does not work correctly with that material.
Click on a source clip in the FCP Browser, and once selected, type Command + 9 to see the item properties for the clip. Either report those properties, or take a screen shot of the item properties, and post that here.
Next, click anywhere in your timeline, and then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your Sequence Settings. Either report those Sequence Settings, or take a screen shot of the Sequence Settings and post that here.

  • Does the Iphone 3G support music playback via a bluetooth headset?

    Hi All,
Does the Iphine 3g support music playback via a bluetooth headset at all, I suspect not...

It's been on many a user's requested feature list since the first iPhone, and people were disappointed when it didn't show up on the 3G. The adaptor he links to will get the job done.
I have to admit I've demoed a couple of bluetooth stereo headsets, and the music sounded awful. Perhaps it's improved, but for this reason it's not a feature I've personally wished was included.

  • Pinwheel when I try to move the cursor in the timeline or playback video

every time i try to move the cursor in the time line, or even playback my footage fcp immediately starts pinwheeling! i can't get anything done. i'm working off an external hard drive (g-drive) that still has around 200gb of space left, i've switched computers and the problem persists -- which leads me to believe it's the external drive causing the problem. any advice? i'm using fcp 7.0.2 -- help!

if i shoot in h264 i ALWAYS have to convert to prores?
If you work in Final Cut Pro, yes.
h.264 is a highly temporally and spatially compressed format designed for DELIVERY. It is extraordinarily resource intensive and causes all sorts of unpredictable project failures when edited directly. FCP does not support it directly. To take advantage of FCP's power, it must be converted to a natively supported format - ProRes for example.
That the sleazy cam producers have glommed onto it as a way of recording their output on really minimal media is more a statement of their desire to make things cheap than their desire to make things easy for you, the editor. When you consider that the great mass of crap recorded on these cams will (thankfully) never see the light of day, their position makes sense.
