The old "sleep using keyboard commands" not working issue is back again

All the way through Leopard the keyboard shortcut for "sleep" wasn't working.
Then in SL it started working again.
Now in 10.6.7 it isn't again.
All constructive suggestions welcome.

I have exactly the same trouble that Tom has (or had?)
I get this in Console, endlessly repeated. I have the slim aluminium keyboard plugged into USB and the mouse is plugged into the USB on the keyboard. It does not make any difference if anything else is connected to the Mac or disconnected - hard drive, printer etc.

  • Simple keyboard commands not working in CS6..?

Am no longer able to navigate around a large document by pressing the space bar (changing the cursor temporarily to the hand tool) or zoom in or out by using command-space bar or option-command-space bar. In both Illustrator and Photoshop.
I'm hoping there's a very simple solution that I just can't find as it's really messing with my workflow. Please help.

    Hi Nicholas Petropoulos,
I am sorry but even i am running out of options now.
    Try these.
Make sure you do not have any browser open when you use Illustrator.
If you are using a magic mouse or Wireless Keyboard.
Try disconnecting them and check the performance.
Also when the issue happens, do you have to force close the application to make it work again?
The mouse and other options do not work on Illustrator. Are you able to use the mouse any where else on the machine when the issue happens ?

  • File and keyboard commands not working in Illustrator CC.

I'm having massive problems with Illustrator CC. The open and paste commands work once or twice and then nothing. Unless I quick the program, they will not work. I have tried everything. I took the drastic step today and erased the hard disk and loaded EVERYTHING again. And I mean everything. I even tested Illustrator without activating the fonts to see if it was a font conflict. Nothing. I'm done. I have tried everything. Has anyone else had this problem? I need help…

  • InDesign CC keyboard commands not working

I just discvered some crucial keyboard shortcuts not working today at my workstation:
    1) Option + click and drag to create a copy (Plus, holding shift key at the same time to keep alignment in place.)
    2) Command + Shift to resize a box and its contents.
Neither work. What is the cause of this and is there a solution to these issues?

  • Boot-up keyboard commands not working

    Hello.
For some reason, when my iMac is booting up, the keyboard commands to affect boot-up (for example, holding Option to pick which drive to boot into) do not work. It wasn't too much of an issue before, since I could access my Boot Camp partition through the Startup Disk preferences pane. But that partition suddenly stopped showing up there, and with holding Option not working, my Boot Camp drive is essentially inaccessible to me. Does anyone know why these keyboard boot-up commands are not working, or any way to fix this? I'd greatly appreciate any help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Please help!
I picked up a Mac Pro Dual Intel Quad-Core from a partners office. The system has four 750gb drives. It had Tiger on it.
Here are the steps I tried:
    1. I got leopard and installed it. I installed on drive 1.
    2. Software updates. Installed Flash runtime and Silverlight runtime.
    3. Opened boot camp and split the boot drive equally for windows and mac os.
    4. I then tried installing Vista Business and my monitor freaked out. I started having weird colors displaying after the boot up to the Windows Vista Disk. The Disk is from my MSDN subscription and I've installed with it before. The install failed after Windows install restarted the machine.
    5. Reformatted all the drives and reinstalled Leopard with the OSX boot DVD. I skipped installing updates and just went straight to boot camp after a fresh Leopard install. Same problem on windows install.
    6. I thought the drive might be messed up, so I wiped all the drives again and tried installing OSX on drive 4. BIG MISTAKE :-/
OSX worked but once I started installing windows Vista it crapped out again.
Now I can't boot to anything.
I tried manually putting each drive into bay 1 to boot. No dice.
None of the boot shortcut commands seem to work: Holding option does nothing at start up. Can't boot into single user mode. Holding c does nothing at start up. It's possible my keyboard is not working correctly because I have had problems with my USB keyboard in the past.
Any suggestions?? I'm going nuts here and I need this machine set up ASAP for a huge project.
    Thanks in advance.

    Fast answers:
    1. Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM and SMC. Doesn't usually 'cure' keyboard problems you report, but it costs nothing and only takes a few minutes.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3819550?start=0&tstart=0
    2. Try plugging in a USB keyboard. Doesn't absolutely have to be a Mac keyboard. A PC keyboard will work for a test. If the typing problem does not occur with the USB keyboard, you have a temporary solution until you can arrange to visit a repair facility.
    3. If your MacBook is older and has a user-removable battery, shut down the computer, remove the battery, and examine it for signs of 'bulging' or swelling. Then connect the computer to the Magsafe power supply, without reinstalling the battery, and turn it back on. If the keyboard problem has gone away, it was likely caused by a swelling battery.

  • Start up keyboard commands not working

My IMAC is running slow. I've verified the hard drive and repaired the disc via disc utilities several x w/ improvement. I am trying to reset the pram but keyboard commands do not function at start up. I cannot start in "safe" mode either. Any suggestions?

    Hello again:
is there a preference to be deleted or something???
Not, to my knowledge, with a wired KB.
my concern is that no keyboard commands work during start up.
If they all work at other times, that is very strange. I know you have to be quick (to reset PRAM, for instance). I never open in safe mode, so I have no insight there.

  • Iphoto batch edit keyboard command not working

Using Lion 10.7 Iphoto 11 I find that the shift+cmd+B keyboard shortcut ( Batch Edit ) is no longer working on multiple or single photos.
    Help from anyone pls....
    Thx,

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Keyboard commands not working with Headstart

    Hello,
I'm using Headstart 2.1.2 with Template package 5.0.3.1. Forms 6.0.5.29 and Designer 6.0.3.
When making a form in Forms without Designer and Headstart the forms responds normally to Alt + spacebar + n to minimze the MDI window. A Headstart generated forms responds to this command with FRM-41008: undefined function key. Does anyone know a way to fix this?
    Thanks, Joost

You will have to add a key definition for this to the qmsrf50.res resource file. Your best bet is to look in the
forms default resource file and copy that definition.
    Regards,
LauriThanks for your reply, Lauri. Unfortunately I'm still not clear about this, I would appreciate it if you could explain a little further.
What does this qmsrf50.res file do? The Headstart manual instructs me to replace the original Forms fmrusw.res file with the resource file supplied with Headstart. If I do so my application fails to start.
As I wrote before my application responds to Alt + spacebar + n with 'Undefined function key'. The Headstart foundation application forms however responds correctly. They use the same runtime executable. Could it be that the resource file is used at compile time or is it only read at runtime?

I've changed batteries on my wireless keyboard with no help. It is a Wireless Keyboard 1000. I'm thinking it could be caused by an addon, but not sure which one.
