need help with itunes 12.1
my itunes was working just fine on my windows 7 pro PC.
Update 12.1 popped up and I clicked download and install and now all of my itunes is gone.
I uninstalled all Apple software packages, and also pain stakingly went thru my registry line by line and deleted all references to itunes, apple, quicktime, etc., then downloaded fresh downloads of the installer and each time I get just about to the end of the installer and a window pops up and says
"the older version of itunes cannot be removed. contact your technical support.
So, I tried downloading the previous version 11.4 and 10.7 64bit installers and then the system won't even get started doing an install when the system responds...
"a newer version of itunes is already installed", and the installer quits.
I have cleaned my registry now about 5 times, I ran all of the apps to clean my PC of all of the apple and itune files. I am an administrator on my PC. I also went as far as creating a second administrator and switching under that account and still get the same responses.
I have removed any attached external drives and tried the installer.
I have tried to install itunes under a different folder location instead of the default C:\Program Files directory.
I have tried to install via the Apple Software Upgrade utility as well as direct downloads of the installers.
All of my music is gone.
When I run the installer now, all of the other apple software files install ok, with the exception of itunes. It gets nearly complete when the "older version" error comes up then I notice it backs off the installation and no files or directories are created.
There is nothing in the Control Panel 'Add/Remove Programs' as far as iTunes, their are no directories or files, yet it still sees a old version of itunes referenced in some file on the pc.
I ran a couple of utilities such as CCleaner, Everything, Revo Uninstaller and Registry Reviver, as well as going thru regedit line by line for hours to remove references to apple and itunes - all still with the same results.
Either I get a 'the older version cannot be removed' or 'a newer version of itunes is already installed'
very frustrated.
anyone have a installer that will complete ignoring any errors?

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you are running 64-bit Windows and the above steps haven't helped try installing the version of iTunes that can be downloaded from this support document. iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
If you still have no luck try reinstalling iTunes 12.0, links in the user tip.

Last ditch question about The older version of iTunes cannot be removed...

I've spent two weeks trying to upgrade iTunes. The error is always the same: "The older version of iTunes cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group." I went through every step in the detailed documents on the Apple Web site except one: I don't have a clue what to turn off with MSConfig. I have also used the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and have manually deleted all references to Apple, iTunes, and iPod in the Registry. All these things have been done not once or twice but at least half a dozen times.
I also spoke with Apple. They walked me through the same processes that I had already tried many times, then said that this particular error means there is a problem with the Windows Registry.
My questions are:
1. In general, does anyone have a clue how to solve this problem other than the steps I have tried repeatedly?
2. Does anyone have a complete list of the items iTunes adds to the Registry? Perhaps there is an item that does not include the words Apple, iTunes or iPod.
3. Can anyone suggest likely culprits that I should turn off in MSConfig?

I had to manually delete iTunes from my Windows 7 PC. When that didn't work, I deleted iTunes from the Registry. There is no older version of iTunes anywhere.

It has been days since I am trying to get a fix for this.
I followed all the steps that were suggested in other posts.
Like:
- removing all the apple software using control panel
- removing all the apple software using Windows Installer Clean Up
- called iTunes support and spoke with an advisor
- called again and spoke with a senior adviser - who told me to reinstall the operating system.
- upgraded the operating system from Windows 7 to Windows 8
Please, this is getting ridiculous. I have 2 iPads, 1 iPod, 1 iPhone 5, Apple TV, I spent hundreds of dollars on apps - all redundant right now because I can't manage any of the devices.
If Apple has a glitch at least tell us to wait for an update (a service like the ones from Microsoft) instead of giving directions that don't work.
I am to the point when I wonder if the hundreds of people who have problems with the new iTunes and spent thousands on Apple products should go to Better Business Bureau.
I don't want to go to another manufacturer but Apple is pushing me in that direction with the lack of help (I mean true help).

I got it to work.
I did several things and hve no idea which workd.
I manually removed iTunes and QuickTime as per "Completely Remove iTunes and QuickTime" in the Apple support main page under iTunes wont download (or somehting like that)
I also deleted the registry for iTunes and QuickTime in regedit.
I alos used Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (downloaded from http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
I also closed my SpySweeper.
Ialso used Firefox to download (it took a long time to download)
Again I have no idea what did the trick or combination but it seems to have worked to get me iTunes 7.

ITunes/Quicktime problem "The older version of Quicktime cannot be removed"

Whenever I try installing iTunes 7, I get the message "The older version of Quicktime cannot be removed." A similar problem with the same wording similarly cropped when I downloaded iTunes 6.
Source of the problem is a failed System Restore which left files corrupted and such, I've tried using ccCleaner to remove iTunes and Quicktime from the registry but it simply isn't there, as is the case when I use regedit in Run.
Add/Remove Programs doesn't work as well, when I click on uninstall for iTunes/iPod/Quicktime there just isn't any response or window that pops up
